Your tender mercies 07:15 grace is that we don't deserve. 07:18 Give us chance after chance, opportunity after opportunity. 07:24 And yet here we are. 07:27 And we thank you for this camp meeting 07:30 that we can focus 07:32 on these major messages in the minor prophets 07:37 speak to our hearts. 07:40 Lord, you know that my feet are made of clay 07:43 and I pray that you would use this week vessel 07:47 for your glory 07:49 in Jesus, precious name. We ask and pray these things. 07:57 When I was an Academy 08:00 High school, 08:02 I developed this bad habit 08:04 of stealing from the cafeteria. 08:10 And it's amazing how we rationalize things. After all, 08:13 I said I pay tuition 08:17 and so I would supplement my meals by. 08:21 >> Systematic regular raids with Mike Padres of the 08:24 cafeteria ice cream, soda and the like. 08:29 And on this particular week day it was during the summer. 08:32 The cafeteria was not in operation 08:36 and we developed this sophisticated or at least we 08:38 thought system 08:42 relays. I was going to be pretending like I was working 08:48 painting a light post which was my that job during the summer 08:52 and there was going to be another relate person at the 08:54 cafeteria door. Wow. My friends were breaking into the pantry. 09:01 They were climbing over the wall into the pantry is 09:04 removable ceilings and the guy that was going over, they 09:08 should pick me looking back. 09:10 He was like 6 foot, 3 big guy 09:13 and it couldn't hold his weight. So he fell through 09:17 big gaping hole 09:18 and to make matters worse. There was the maintenance 09:21 worker that was coming around the corner. Going up to the 09:23 calf side, looked up my relay. My relay man was gone. 09:28 So in my short Korean legs, I ran as fast as I could into the 09:32 cafeteria. And I said get out. 09:36 He's coming 09:39 and rather than leaving with the other individuals at the 09:41 same door, I left out the back, 09:45 the maintenance man 09:49 and he said, what are you doing here? 09:52 Not only was I Fi Fi was a liar 09:56 and I said I'm using the pass. 10:00 He said don't coming year again. 10:03 I said yes, sir. 10:04 And I walked away in the crazy thing is 10:08 they didn't check that pantry a few days later so they couldn't 10:11 tied to us. And so I we got away with 10:17 later on 10:18 after conversion. Holy Spirit convicted me 10:22 and I to make restitution amen, 10:24 which means paying it back. 10:28 I remember vividly 10:31 the memory and our memories are tied to emotions. 10:36 I remember the emotion of walking out the back of that 10:39 cafeteria and meeting that man. 10:41 And there's something about that experience. I could not 10:45 look at his face. 10:49 I didn't want to make eye contact. 10:52 I looked down 10:55 and the reason is up next 10:57 because of my boots. 11:00 Mice in a 11:01 I could not look at the face of that individual. 11:06 Now one day 11:08 we're going to able to look at the face of G's 11:12 and I want to look down. 11:14 I want to be able to look into his face, 11:18 open your Bibles. The book of Revelation Revelation Chapter 6 11:22 and this is the nightmare experience that none of us ever 11:26 want to have. When we look at the face of God, 11:30 this is the 11:31 reaction that we do not want to have revelation Chapter 6 11:41 and there's 14. 11:44 Then the sky receded as a scroll when it is rolled up 11:49 and every Mountain island was moved out of its place and the 11:52 kings of the years, the rich man, 11:55 the great men, the commanders, the mighty man, 11:59 every slee slave in every free man hid themselves in the caves 12:05 in the mountains 12:07 and the rocks of the mountains and said to the mountains and 12:10 rocks falls on us and hide this from the 12:17 of him who sits on the throw and from the wrath of the land 12:22 for the great day of his wrath is come and who shall be able 12:26 to stand? 12:30 The reaction that none of us one half. 12:35 But this is the reaction of the majority of people on planet 12:38 Earth at this time. 12:40 They can't look at us 12:42 face 12:43 notice that 12:45 they are hiding from the face of Jesus. 12:49 They're calling for the mountains and rocks to fall on 12:51 them because they say we can't look at his face. 12:56 And the question is why 12:58 why can't these individuals look at the face of Jesus? 13:03 And so here is our thesis question 13:08 for our study here this morning. 13:10 Watch is the criteria. 13:13 What is the condition for being able to look at the face of 13:17 GAAP 13:18 and not hide? 13:21 I want to be a look at his face. Amen 13:24 and not be like, oh, 13:27 I want to run from his presence, you know, in the 13:29 south 13:31 as cockroaches. 13:34 I live in Arkansas. I've never seen 13:38 extra terrestrial looking organisms before 13:46 right out of the shower. 13:49 And there was. 13:54 But this pick and I'm not exaggerating 13:56 crawling across the floor 14:01 and every now and then you flip on a light in the room and it's 14:04 like, 14:11 but that's the scene here. 14:13 The lights are on. They can't look at the face of Jesus and 14:16 it's like cockroaches. With all due respect, headed for the 14:20 nearest cover. 14:26 If Jesus were to enter this room, 14:31 it's like a low friends. 14:34 What would be your reaction? 14:37 I pray. It's not like cockroaches, right job. 14:44 That's the scene here. 14:46 He just shows up. 14:49 You ever want to run from a lamb? 14:52 I was the most ridiculous 14:54 hi to us from the wrath of the lamb. I mean, it be like the 14:57 wrath of a lion. But the wrath of the lamb. This is the most 15:00 in logical thing that's going on here. 15:04 Jesus shows up and they're like get me out of here because we 15:10 can't look at his face. 15:14 What's the condition? What's the criteria for being able to 15:17 look at the face of got 15:19 with me in your Bibles, Texas chapter? 33 15:23 Moses. They're on Mount Sinai has the audacity to ask God to 15:29 show him his face 15:35 Mount Sinai. 15:36 He's about to receive the 10 Commandments and Moses. They're 15:39 having a conversation with God and evidently he was unable to 15:43 see the face of God 15:46 in this community. 15:49 In this conversation. 15:51 He makes this bold 15:53 stations request and he says, please show me your glory 16:05 and then verse 20, 16:08 he says 16:09 you can not see my face. 16:15 You see that 16:16 you can't see my face for no man can see me and live. 16:23 So here's the problem. 16:25 Do you think God wants to have a face-to-face conversation 16:27 with us? 16:28 Absolutely. 16:30 The conversation is the relationship, but he can't 16:34 because if he shows his face 16:41 a theme that is from throughout scripture, 16:44 God wants to come close. He wants to come near. He wants 16:47 to have this relationship with us, but he can't because if he 16:50 shows his face, we die. 16:53 And so in this conversation with Moses on Mount Sinai use, 16:58 you see God making divine accommodation. 17:03 He's so gracious is any 17:06 you can't see my face. 17:08 I tell you why. 17:10 There's a there's a crack in the rock 17:13 and went on to slip in. 17:17 And as I put my hand over the rock and as I passed by, 17:21 I'm going to remove my hand 17:24 and you can see my back. 17:28 So you can just imagine there he is with his hand on the rock 17:31 goes by says, All right, Moses, you can look at my back and you 17:34 can just imagine my sanctified imagination. Moses is looking 17:38 out there. It's like, oh, and he looks at the back. 17:43 What happened when he got down from the mountain. 17:50 Like 1000 watt 17:53 spotlight 17:55 and there's rely too like please, 17:58 but a ban on. 17:59 We can look at your face 18:02 and that's after looking at them. 18:10 Something changed after you're done 18:13 because needing 18:14 Adam money 18:16 could have 18:18 face to face. 18:20 Imagine that 18:22 just like its 18:23 just like you and I are looking at each other right now. 18:27 God would come down 18:28 face to face, 18:31 but education, age 15. 18:34 Listen to this 18:35 face to face 18:37 Hart to Hart Communion with its maker 18:40 was his high privilege 18:42 and had he remained loyal to got all this would have been 18:46 his for ever 18:50 throughout the seasons ages of paternity. He would have 18:52 continued to gain new treasures of knowledge to discover fresh 18:56 springs of happiness and to obtain clear and yet clear 19:00 conceptions of his wisdom, the power and the love of God more 19:05 and more fully what you have revealed the object of his 19:08 creation. More and more fully have reflected the creators 19:13 glory. 19:15 But something happened 19:17 after the fall face-to-face 19:20 no longer possible. 19:23 Even with most 19:25 he says, you can look at my back 19:29 but got 19:30 is it got 19:31 that wants to accommodate. 19:35 In other words, 19:36 he wants the breach the golf, 19:39 but he has to do it in a particular way so that we are 19:43 not pulverized by his presence. 19:47 And so an Exodus chapter, 20 fivers 8, 19:50 let them build me a sanctuary 19:53 that I may dwell among them. 19:57 I want them to put the slide 19:59 of the mosaic sanctuary on the screen for you. It's a bird's 20:03 eye view of the sanctuary that was given to Moses. 20:09 You can see it there on the screen and 20:12 you have 3 compartments, the courtyard, the Holy Place in 20:16 the most holy place, Adam and Eve before the fall or in the 20:21 most Holy Place experience, they were able to have that 20:25 Chicana 20:26 glory revealed to them without debt. 20:31 But you can see 20:33 in the sanctuary 20:36 God brings haven't down. 20:40 But he has to accommodate in a particular way. 20:46 Notice there's no floor in the sanctuary. How the 2, 20:50 in other words haven't has come all the way down. 20:55 But it has to be wrapped. 20:57 Follow me. 20:59 It's not wrapped in a 21:01 chainlink fence. 21:04 It doesn't look like sand Quinn. 10 21:06 Quinton anyways. It says that the veil is his fletch 21:24 in that interesting. 21:25 In other words, this is divine accommodation. The glory of God 21:30 as manifested in the ark of the Covenant comes all the way 21:33 down. But it's wrapped up. 21:36 It's bail. 21:38 The the divinity of Christ is shrouded. 21:44 God wants to come near. He wants to come close. He wants 21:47 to have conversation, but he can't because of sin. And so 21:51 gaunt says, look, build me a tabernacle because I want to 21:54 come close. But you can't look at me directly and I'm going to 21:57 fail it 21:59 in the end 22:02 and the sanctuary, the process of salvation. 22:06 It's very simple. 22:09 Even last 22:11 even restored 22:14 face to face in Eden last 22:18 it's going to be restored 22:21 and the sanctuary 22:23 is the path 22:26 to the throne of God. 22:29 The scene in our lives is the prop 22:33 and the sanctuary. Is that the mode? The illustration of how 22:39 God brings us back to that face to face encounter with God 22:45 Courtyard, justification delivers us from the penalty of 22:49 Sen 22:51 hold. The place 22:53 delivers us from the power U.S. in. 22:56 And the most Holy Place delivers us from the presence 23:00 of Sin, 23:02 Kinder Garden illustration 23:04 of how God brings us all the way back to the throne room. 23:10 Obvious grace, 23:13 Open your bibles to for Samuel Chapter 6. 23:17 We have this incident that occurs in the Old Testament 23:20 where the ark of the covenant is stolen away 23:27 by the Philistines 23:30 and the Philistines are having all kinds of problems. So they 23:34 decide to send the ark of the covenant back to the children 23:38 of Israel, 23:39 the hitch it to a cart 23:42 and they have these 23:45 Oxon 23:47 Cowles pull it 23:50 into the camp of Israel or into a city of Israel called the she 23:55 Mitch 23:56 and the ark of the covenant was covered 24:00 a linen Closs. Remember that story? 24:25 So the uncover the Ark of the Covenant 24:28 for Samuel Chapter 6 and Versed 19. Then he struck the men 24:34 abyss. She much because they had looked 24:38 at the arc of the Lord. 24:39 He struck 50,000 and 70 men, 24:46 50,070 men of the people and the people lamented because the 24:52 Lord had struck the people with a great slaughter. Do you see 24:56 what's happening here? 24:58 The Chacon, a glory represents the face of God 25:02 and they uncover it 25:04 1000 people 25:12 and in verse 20 25:14 look at what they say 25:17 and the man abyss. And so he shrouds his divinity 26:04 any particular way, any particular package so that he 26:08 can 26:09 reveal himself to us, 26:15 which brings us 26:19 our passage of reflection as we focus on the minor prophets 26:22 open your bibles to the book of Hat Yai 26:25 Haggi. I chapter 2 26:27 and there are 7, 9, wins. Last time you looked at the 26:31 book of Haggi. I you know, these minor prophets. 26:35 Amazing, you know, white indicates that the minor 26:38 prophets in particular have a message for those living in the 26:42 last days. So here it is. Haggi I 26:46 chapter 2 and verse 7 26:50 and 9 26:52 and I will shake 26:54 all the nations 26:56 and they shall come to the desire of all nations. And and if your heart 38:50 Evers chapter 12 verse 14 says Without Holiness, no one will 38:55 see the Lord. 39:00 Holiness 39:02 is the condition 39:04 for being able to see the face of God 39:07 about the special. What is the criteria? What is the condition 39:11 for being able to have a face-to-face encounter with got 39:15 the path 39:17 is holding us 39:21 now. If you're anything like me, 39:28 makes me feel anxious. 39:33 Now, there are certain things certain events 39:36 I just can't pay for. 39:38 I can afford 39:41 box office seats, courtside. I can afford it 39:45 being able to see the face of Got 39:48 Holiness, 39:49 are you wholly and I'm like, 39:52 no, 39:54 I can't cup. 39:56 I mean, this is like 39:58 radical 40:00 just audacious 40:03 condition from a human standpoint of you 40:06 be able to even see the face of got, 40:10 how does this make you feel 40:13 inadequate 40:15 anxiety? 40:17 I mean, I almost need therapy even thinking about this. 40:23 No way. 40:25 >> I will never be good enough. Never measure up 40:30 to this qualification. 40:33 But there's good news. 40:38 You know, that there was only one individual 40:41 that could enter into the most holy place. 40:46 Is that a priest? 40:48 >> And the high priest had 40:51 on his forehead. A golden plate. 40:56 Exodus Chapter. 28 0st. 36 get a golden plate. And you know 41:00 what that golden plate said on it. It said Holiness to the 41:04 Lord. 41:06 Interesting member, what's the criteria for being able to go 41:08 into this kind of glory and see the face of got holding it? 41:11 And yet the priest had on his forehead of all places. I think 41:16 an inscription that said Holiness to the Lord, 41:22 he was the only individual 41:24 that could go into that inner sanctum. 41:28 But he had to wear that plate. 41:33 Who does the high priest represent 41:36 jeez even after a 41:42 in other words, 41:46 the only way 41:49 that we have access 41:51 you have that face-to-face encounter with God 41:55 is because Jesus 41:58 is are holding this 42:01 a man. So like, look, you go, you want insurance 42:05 holding. This is the criteria 42:08 all you need to say is like, look, I claim the holiness of 42:12 Jesus, 42:14 a man and they said come on in and and praise the lord and 42:19 other weight is not Our Holiness. Are you kidding me? 42:22 It's the holiness of Jesus. And it's because of him as our 42:26 mediate are intercessor in our representative and he wears 42:29 that play and you get in on his righteousness, which is holding 42:35 this by the way and you can't buy it. 42:39 It's by face 42:41 holding. This is 42:43 righteous us 42:49 Ezekiel Chapter 20 and verse 12 42:53 says and I gave them 42:55 my SATs 42:57 as a sign between us 42:59 so that they would know 43:01 that I the Lord made them Holy. 43:06 Now, let me unpack this with you. 43:10 Made a holy 43:15 now he did it. 43:21 And every time we keep the Sabbath 43:24 what you do on the Sabbath work 43:27 you rest 43:28 and it comes around every 7 days. 43:32 What is the chapter 20 verse 12 says 43:35 is like, look, we need a reminder 43:39 every 7 days 43:41 because we tend to forget if you have noticed, right, 43:46 we need reassurance because the ticket to be able to see the 43:50 face of God, his holiness, but every 7 days, which is tomorrow 43:54 for starting this evening, we don't work. We're asked 44:00 in the assurance that even as God made a holy he can make you 44:05 and me Hawley, a man. 44:07 And we're asked in that assurance by faith 44:12 because we need to be reminded man, 44:14 as we forget, we think we can make ourselves holy. We think 44:18 we can do things to contribute to our salvation and earn it 44:23 one way or the other. But every 7 days, 44:26 it's a reminder 44:28 that, look, 44:29 I rest in the assurance because even though I don't feel it, 44:33 even though I don't have any ownership of it, even though 44:35 there's nothing meritorious in me, I'm reminded that it is the 44:38 right distance of Christ and his his power that can make me 44:43 holy even as though he made a gay holy a man. 44:49 That's the assurance it's that remind 44:52 so every 7 days 44:55 as the whole, the wave of the Sabbath comes upon us, 44:59 we're mind 45:01 we rest 45:05 God created the Earth 45:07 and all 45:09 that is in it 45:11 in 6 literal 45:14 contiguous consecutive days. By the way 45:18 of 24 hour periods. 45:20 They're exactly like the ones that we experience 45:24 didn't take millions and billions and trillions of 45:26 years. 45:30 It was 6 literal days. 45:33 I don't care what Darwin says. 45:37 Orr pH D's. 45:40 So he creates the earth 45:42 in 6 days 45:44 and on the 7th day, 45:47 he puts his whole the signature on it. 45:50 Scott's Afis, 45:52 you know, when you when you make a masterpiece, a painting 45:56 the site 45:58 at the end 46:01 doesn't put his signature in a place. It didn't take billions of years, a man, 46:24 but it is a process 46:27 of recreating in you and I the image of God. 46:33 And he puts his signature on it 46:37 and he says they look like me 46:41 and it's symbolized 46:46 praise its name. 46:49 Now I praise got 46:54 for his mercy 46:57 that we don't have to feel like we've arrived. 47:01 And that's why this process 47:04 is by faith. 47:08 In Second Corinthians, chapter 3, verse 18, 47:15 a practical application 47:19 of ensuring that when Jesus comes the second time, 47:23 we can be able to look 47:25 at the face of God 47:27 and not run from his presence. 47:30 Second Corinthians chapter 3 verse 18, 47:32 but we all 47:34 with on veiled face. 47:38 Let me unpack that with for you. If you read Second 47:40 Corinthians, the context of this is the exact context. 47:45 We just talked about an Exodus chapter. 33, 47:48 he's talking about Moses when he came down from the mountain 47:52 and they had to Vail his face because they couldn't look at 47:56 his glory. 47:57 That's why he says with unveiled face, he had just seen 48:00 the the Chacon a glory of God and you have to build his face. 48:04 And that was just from looking at the back of got 48:08 not looking at the face of God. 48:11 Paul is expounding on this theme 48:15 and he uses this analogy to describe this process of how we 48:20 become changed. And that's why he says, but we all with on 48:25 they'll face behold, he has in a mere the glory of the Lord 48:33 are being transformed from glory to glory. 48:40 In other words, 48:42 you want to be ready for the second coming of Jesus. 48:44 You want to be able to stand before the face of God and not 48:47 be Paul, the rise and not be just 48:50 running from his presence. 48:53 Behold his glory. 48:59 You can do that 49:01 by his grace 49:04 because its glory. 49:07 He's right here. 49:09 The word 49:11 was made flash 49:12 and dwelt among us. 49:15 And every day 49:16 I encourage 49:18 to open the word of God 49:21 to study 49:23 to reflect on his presence because look 49:27 what Paul the same 49:29 is that even greater than looking at the back of God on 49:33 Mount Sinai? 49:35 When you look at it, 49:37 Jesus through his word, 49:40 you're looking at the face. 49:42 You're looking at the face of Jesus Christ and even as the 49:46 glory that was reflected in Moses that people couldn't see. 49:50 When you look at this 49:52 when you meditate on it, when you think about Jesus every 49:55 single day, 49:58 we'll be able to tell 50:00 that you have been with Jesus. 50:04 Do you want that by his grace? 50:06 You desire that you wanted to be when people hang around you 50:09 there like all 50:10 they have been on the map. 50:14 They've been in the presence of God. They have seen his glory, 50:21 selected messages, book 3 50:24 page one, 69 50:27 by the holding 50:28 and good but admire and become more attracted to him. 50:34 More charmed and more desirous to be like Jesus until he 50:40 assimilates to his image and has the mind of Christ like 50:46 Enoch. He walks with God. His mind is full of cheeses and 50:52 his glory. He is his best friend 50:59 last few minutes here on to make this very practical. 51:03 White says that the way that Enoch walked with God, 51:09 he was in his thoughts. 51:12 He thought about Jesus 51:15 all through his day 51:17 and before he went to bed at night, 51:20 the individual and the entity that we'd like to think about 51:24 the most 51:27 is where our hearts really are. 51:30 Do you have a favorite place in your mind that you love to go? 51:36 You have this place 51:37 that you go 51:39 that you find the greatest pleasure 51:44 if we were to flash on the screen today. And sometimes we as 52:13 a community of faith can fall into this trap of thinking 52:15 like, look, I'm not going to do it, but I'm going to think 52:19 about 52:20 I'm going to toss it around in our minds in my mind and think 52:23 about it and imagine it. And it just in grisly just the 52:27 details fantasize about it. Imagine it go through the 52:32 actions in my mind. And the Bible says that if you lost 52:35 after a woman, 52:37 you guilty of adultery 52:39 going to Jesus, you've already cross the line. 52:44 A brother 52:46 guilty of murder 52:50 by the grace of got 52:53 can develop 52:54 the have it 52:56 that when we're standing at Walmart 52:59 and there's a line, 53:01 don't pull out your phone, 53:04 what's he looking at the Bible to get real Bible? 53:08 You know, I believe that in the end of time, people are getting 53:10 sealed through their smartphones. 53:13 They should go around like this 53:15 because that's the reality when they get up. 53:18 >> They look at their smartphone when they're in 53:19 line. They look at the smartphone before they go to 53:21 bed. They look at their smart bomb. People are getting sealed 53:25 by the culture of the world 53:27 through these devices and they are destroying us. 53:33 Absolutely. We're getting seal 53:36 by our smartphones, 53:39 which should be sealed by the word of God. A man 53:43 out of the pocket by by take with me. 53:46 Pull it out. 53:49 Don't reach for your smartphone. 53:51 We trust scripture. 53:53 Make that 53:54 your meditation. And by the way, there is biblical 53:57 meditation, 53:59 eastern meditation emptying your mind. Biblical meditation, 54:03 very simple. Filling your mind with the word of God 54:07 about Jesus all throughout your day 54:13 and you can use your sanctified imagination. 54:18 Last passage as we wrap up Deuteronomy chapter 6. It's 54:22 known as the show mom. 54:24 Every Hebrew 54:27 in the Old Testament would get up in the morning and say the 54:31 Schema Jesus quotes it in the New Testament. Deuteronomy 54:34 chapter 6 verse 4. Hear o Israel. The Lord, our God. 54:38 The Lord is one. 54:40 And you shall love the Lord. Your God. With all your heart 54:43 with all your soul. And with all your strength, 54:49 what does it look like for an individual that is absolutely 54:52 sold out? Forgot. 54:55 What does it look like in a practical sense for a person 54:58 that is just immersed in got and really loves. You're thinking about Jesus and before 56:08 you go to bed at night, it's all about Jesus. 56:14 That's the person that sold out for Jesus. 56:17 That's the person 56:19 that's being C 56:23 from glory to glory, 56:26 from Fay to faith and from day to day. 56:31 >> And when Jesus comes in, the clouds of glory, 56:35 we're not running. 56:39 We're saying like the people in Isaiah, 56:42 this is our guy. 56:44 We have waited for him 56:46 and he will save us. And when Jesus comes, the Bible says 56:51 that we will be like him, 56:57 but we will see him 56:59 as he is highly yeah praises name and Jesus will come down 57:04 and say they look just like 57:13 I mean, you want to be like that. A man by his grace and 57:17 say, Lord, when you come up, 57:19 I want to look like you. 57:21 Let's pray. Father in heaven. We thank you for your grace for 57:23 your love. 57:25 Write your lawn.
