00:07 Sermon #B705 - Get Out Of Egypt
00:20 Dr. Byrd: If you have your Bibles take them with me to the Book of Exodus and we are going to go to Exodus
00:24 and we are going to Chapter sixteen, verses one, two, and three, just three verses today.
00:32 Exodus chapter sixteen, verses one, two and three, and I am going to read and you are hearing from the King James version of the Bible.
00:41 Exodus chapter sixteen verses one, two, and three. The word of God says, "And they took their journey from Elim,
00:49 and all the congregation of the children of Israel came unto the wilderness of sin, which is between Elim and Sinai,
00:57 on the fifteenth day of the second month after their departing out of the land of Egypt."
01:03 Verse two, "And the whole congregation of the children of Israel, murmured against Moses and Aaron in the wilderness.
01:12 Verse number three, "And the children of Israel said unto them,
01:16 Would to God we had died by the hand of the Lord in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the flesh pots,
01:24 and when we did eat bread to the full; for ye have brought us forth into this wilderness, to kill this whole assembly with hunger."
01:36 Today our message is entitled, Get Out of Egypt. Father God we ask right now, that you would bless us.
01:46 Lord we have had powerful ministry and song, powerful ministry in music, we have been reminded that God,
01:52 You will keep us in perfect peace when we keep our mind stayed on You. Thank you for that promise today.
01:59 We are listening to an inspiring interview, and we have been challenged about the fact that faith without works is dead,
02:06 and so therefore the church as not just got to be in the building, but we have got to be outside of the four walls serving humanity.
02:13 Now we need a word from You, because if we do not hear from You, what will we do. One of you more each day,
02:19 Lord show us Your perfect way. There is no other way we can live,
02:23 so speak Lord for your servants here hiding behind the cross of Jesus Christ, forgive me of my sins.
02:28 And when the appeal time comes Lord, do what You do by the power of Your Holy Spirit. Thank you for hearing
02:34 and thank you for answering this prayer in Jesus name, amen.
02:40 Get Out of Egypt. It has been one month since the Israelites' departure from Egypt. And now, if you read the story,
02:52 they are in the wilderness. But they are complaining to Moses because they are hungry, they are hungry and they want food
03:01 and they believe that Moses has brought them out into the Wilderness to die.
03:08 Now, you will remember also that the Israelites had complained three times earlier or before in the book of Exodus to Moses.
03:17 You will remember in Exodus chapter five, they complained to Moses
03:21 because they said that he had caused pharaoh to make things harder for them.
03:26 In the second instance in Exodus fourteen, they complained to Moses because they said, he had taken them out of Egypt.
03:32 They are now at the Red Sea, in front of them is water, behind them is Pharaoh and his soldiers and that they were going to die.
03:43 Then instance number three, the Bible teachers in Exodus fifteen,
03:46 they complained to Moses about the bitter water they had to drink.
03:53 And so now we have come to this fourth instance in Exodus chapter sixteen, and they complained that they have no food to eat.
04:02 Now I must admit, that I am a little troubled because of their complaining,
04:07 because after living four hundred years in captivity in Egypt the children of Israel had experienced God's mighty hand,
04:15 deliver them from mean old Pharaoh.
04:18 They had witnessed the mighty hand of God defeat the most powerful army on the face of the globe.
04:23 They were slaves one day, but they were saved the next day, hallelujah. They had seen God release frogs and flies
04:32 and lice to fight Pharaoh. They had seen God make a Red Sea, a dry highway.
04:39 They had seen pharaoh and his six hundred chosen chariots get drowned in the Red Sea.
04:45 The Bible says it was so powerful that when Moses' sister Miriam looked back and saw the man who had oppressed them.
04:53 Saw the man who had raped their women, saw the man who had beaten their sons drowning in the Red Sea.
04:59 The Bible says, she grabbed a tambourine and she started beating that tambourine and dancing before God.
05:07 And it was God who said, the enemies that you see today, you shall see them no more.
05:13 They had seen God set up a dry cleaners in the wilderness,
05:17 because there is no way you could be around the same people every day with the same clothes on smelling good unless
05:23 God provided for your progress. Do I have a witness online? They had seen God turn the bitter Waters of Murabba,
05:31 it is a cool calm waters from which they could drink. But now in Exodus sixteen, they have amnesia.
05:39 And they forgotten all of what God has done for them and now they are whining. Now they are grumbling,
05:45 now they are murmuring, now they are complaining. And they say the Bible records in verse number three,
05:52 "We wish that the Lord had killed us in Egypt. At least in Egypt we could sit down and eat meat and as much food as we wanted."
06:02 But let us be clear here, the Israelites are not facing a famine here. They are not facing starvation either.
06:10 They are probably starting to complain right before they run out of of food or immediately after they have run out of food.
06:17 But not only that, their claim that they were better off in Egypt was a foolish one. They were slaves back in Egypt.
06:24 And the Egyptians did not treat them well,
06:28 so while it might have been true that they had food in Egypt it was not an all-you-can-eat buffet like they were making it sound like.
06:36 But not only that, they do not want to turn to God to help them with their problem.
06:41 But the first thing they do is complain against Moses. They said, you Moses, you brought us out here to die.
06:52 It was you. Now, that is also a silly statement because Moses had sacrificed and given so much for his people.
07:01 Most of us know the story of Moses, because Pharaoh had commanded all the newborn boys to be thrown in the Nile River. Moses,
07:12 the Bible teaches, hid him for three months and then prepared a basket boat,
07:20 knowing that Pharaoh's daughter would come to a certain spot to bathe.
07:25 She put him in the boat and placed the boat along the banks of the Nile River.
07:32 Now the princess found and fell in love with the baby because we all know that a woman cannot resist picking up a baby.
07:43 She took Moses as her son and then chose Moses' mother Jochebed to become the baby's nurse. God was orchestrating the entire thing,
07:58 because Moses was raised as Pharaoh's adopted grandson, but Jochebed, his real mama taught him of his heritage
08:08 and taught him of the God of the Hebrews. You do not hear what I am saying.
08:11 So even though Moses look like an Egyptian, even though his hair was like an Egyptian,
08:18 even though his clothes were like an Egyptian, even though he walks like an Egyptian, even though he talked like an Egyptian,
08:26 even though he behave like an Egyptian, Moses was still a Hebrew. A Hebrew in character, religion and loyalty.
08:34 The Bible says that he refused to be called the son of Pharaoh's daughter.
08:37 He chose to suffer the affliction with the people of God rather than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season
08:43 Moses grew up seeing is people oppressed, he saw their slavery, he saw their forced labor, he saw their oppression,
08:56 but Moses loved his people. And the Bible says at age forty, when he saw an Egyptian beating up on one of his people, the Bible says,
09:05 he looked to the left and he looked to the right. He looked everywhere and he thought no one was looking,
09:12 he killed the Egyptian who was beating on one of his people. And the Bible says, he buried the Egyptian in the sand.
09:22 But the sad thing is, one of his fellow Hebrews saw him, sold him out and went and told Pharaoh.
09:31 Let that be a lesson to somebody today that somebody is always watching you. But not only that,
09:36 the people you helped the most, appreciated the least. Harriet Tubman said it best, she said, "I freed 1,000 slaves,
09:46 but I could have freed one thousand more if only they had known they were slaves."
09:52 Acts seven, twenty five said, it had been revealed to the elders of Israel that Moses was to be their deliverer.
09:57 But the Bible said, they understood not. So Moses, now flees, because Pharaoh knows what he has done and Pharaoh seeks to kill him.
10:07 Moses ends up being a shepherd in Midian. God meets at the burning bush. God calls Moses to ministry. Moses reluctantly,
10:20 but eventually obeys God's call in his life to lead the Israelites out of Egypt into the promised land. So Moses loved his people,
10:30 Moses was a good leader to his people and their accusation about him was false, foolish and fatuous.
10:38 But the problem with the Israelites was, they had been physically delivered out of Egypt,
10:46 but mentally they were still there. Moses had the task of liberating people who had been oppressed, not only physically by Pharaoh,
10:58 but also mentally by Pharaoh.
11:01 They had adapted to being enslaved,
11:04 and even though they had prayed for liberation,
11:07 sometimes we pray for things ideologically that we are not prepared to experience practically.
11:13 And so now, they prayed for liberation, but they resent the Liberator.
11:19 Because freedom requires that you give up something of what you adapted to.
11:25 You see friends, it is one thing to be delivered out of Egypt, but it is another thing to get the Egypt out of you.
11:31 I wish I had a witness in this place. That is why you can take some folk out of certain areas physically,
11:37 but you cannot take the area out of them. The reason why they are murmuring and complaining,
11:43 is because of the effects of their Egyptian experience. Egypt was bondage. Pharaoh told them when, where and how.
11:52 Pharaoh shaped their self-esteem. Pharaoh represents a system, a system that controls and a system that manipulates.
12:00 And if you are in bondage to the system long enough, it would create a mindset that becomes institutionalized to the system.
12:08 And before long, you begin to think that you can never be anything, that you will never do anything
12:13 and because Pharaoh has messed with and oppressed your mind.
12:17 Although you have been delivered out of Pharaohs house, Pharaoh is still in your house.
12:24 Some people cannot be delivered from an Egyptian mindset. I have learned that there are some people that cannot get out of Egypt.
12:31 You see, Egypt, if I can make it plain says, go and buy an expensive car each. Egypt says, buy a Mercedes, buy a BMW, by Lexus,
12:41 buy a Tesla, buy a Cadillac, put some rims on it, put some twenties on it, add some spinners in it, but live with your mama.
12:49 And then when you live with your mama, you don't even try to buy a house, but somebody needs to get out of Egypt today.
12:55 Egypt says, go ahead and get every credit cards you can, Visa, Mastercard, Discover, American Express.
13:04 Get them, max them out, dress good, look good, put all those clothes on your back, Tom Ford, St. John, Hugo Boss, Versace,
13:14 Prada, Louis Vuitton. Donna Karan, you name it, you get it. Don't worry about paying the balance off.
13:20 Egypt says, people do not want to hear the gospel message of Jesus. People do not want to be baptized.
13:27 You cannot build a school. You cannot build a Family Life Center. You cannot renovate a church.
13:34 You cannot have a bona fide children's ministry. You cannot have a cutting edge media ministry.
13:40 You cannot further advance in ministry. You do not have enough money, it cost too much. Too much this, too much that
13:47 but I am tired of Egypt.
13:49 I am tired of Egypt folk, I am tired of visionless folk. If you cannot see it, get up out of my way.
13:56 God said, I will supply all of your needs according to my riches in glory. You do not need Egypt folk in your house,
14:03 you do not need Egypt folk in your car, you do not need Egypt folk texting you. You do not need Egypt folk calling you,
14:09 you do not need Egypt folk around you, because if they cannot see what God has for you then they have no business around you.
14:16 Get out of Egypt.
14:19 Quit letting Pharaoh mentally oppress you, quit letting Pharaoh tell you, you are nothing, that your mama was nothing,
14:25 that your daddy was nothing and you will be nothing. You are somebody, you were made in God's image,
14:32 you were made after God's likeness, get out of Egypt. For over 400 years, black people have been denigrated, degraded,
14:40 decimated and demoralized by many simply because of the color of their skin. For over 400 years just like the Israelites,
14:49 many black people have been messed up mentally. They have been messed up by an Egyptian pharaoh rooted oppressive system.
14:57 For over 400 years, black people have had to listen to the erroneous notion that the black race was cursed,
15:03 through the lineage of Noah's son Ham, and as a result, white supremacy is justified. But in the name of Jesus,
15:11 that is a lie from the pits of hell. I have not been cursed, you have not been cursed. I am a black man, and I am proud of it.
15:20 I am proud of my blackness. I am proud of my heritage. I am proud of who God made me to be. I am not ashamed of my brown skin.
15:30 I do not have to go to tanning salons to get brown, I am already brown.
15:34 I am not ashamed of my motionless obedient hair. When I brush my hair in the morning, it stays in place all night long,
15:41 all day long. It rather stay still than fly in my eye. I am not ashamed of my big nose, it enables me breathe all of God's air.
15:49 I am not ashamed of my big thick lips. When I kiss my wife, she likes it because she can feel the fullness of my lips.
15:57 I am not ashamed of the way God made me, you should not be ashamed of the way God made you, we are all God's children.
16:04 Red and yellow, black and white, all of us are precious in His sight, get out of Egypt.
16:12 Let me be clear today, Black History Month is not a time. It is not a time either to take shots at white people.
16:20 Black History Month, is a time to celebrate the achievements, successes and contributions of black people in history.
16:29 It is a time to educate black people, white people, red people, yellow people and all people what God has done through his people,
16:39 through Martin Luther King Jr, through Malcolm X, through Nelson Mandela, through Medgar Evers, through John Lewis,
16:50 through Mary McLeod Bethune, through Sejourner Truth, through Harriet Tubman, through Rosa Parks, through President Barack Obama,
17:00 through Vice President Kamala Harris, through Stacey Abrams, through Senator Raphael Warnock, but do not stop there.
17:08 People need to know, that Henry Ford bought the concept plans for the first automobile from a black man.
17:16 People need to know that blacks are credited with inventing the traffic signal, the clock, the umbrella and the ironing board.
17:26 People need to know that a black man Dr. Daniel Hale Williams performed the first open-heart surgery.
17:33 People need to know that a black man, Dr. George Washington Carver invented over three hundred products with the peanut.
17:40 People need to know that a black man, Dr. Charles Drew invented the blood bank. People need to know that a black woman,
17:48 Dr. Shirley Ann Jackson invented the touch-tone phone, caller ID and fiber optic cable.
17:55 People need to know that I black woman, Dr. Kizzmekia Corbett,
17:59 was the principal researcher who developed the Covid-19 vaccine. People need to know that it was the Tuskegee Airmen who fought
18:07 in World War Two for the United States, despite being racially discriminated against within
18:13 and outside the Army once shot down three German jets in a single day.
18:19 People need to know that highly developed empires existed in many parts of Africa, hundreds of years ago.
18:28 Way before the onslaught of slavery exploitation in the 1500s, get out of Egypt.
18:35 But remember I said that Black History Month is the time to educate not only non black people,
18:43 but it is also a time to educate black people too. You see too many of us, are fake woke. Too many of us are ashamed.
18:55 Too many of us are scared of who we are, but we need to shake off the Pharaoh enslavement,
19:02 but just like the Israelites we have conformed to a system, a system that perpetuates itself.
19:10 Systems are built for you to go along to get along. Systems are not built for change, systems are not built for radical movements,
19:20 systems are in place to keep the status quo to keep things the way they are for example.
19:26 In any organizational system the ones in charge of the system are hesitant to change the system
19:34 because that would mean it would compromise their place in the system.
19:38 Put another way, nobody wants to vote themselves out of a job. In our church system,
19:45 we are hearing cries to reform the church structure. We are hearing cries to reform the system,
19:52 but to change the structure, to change the system. You would have to change the people,
19:59 which would mean the very people who make the decisions to change the system would have to vote themselves out of their positions
20:06 and they are not going to do that. And so to keep the people at bay,
20:11 system leadership will pit people up against each other with a divide and conquer philosophy or better yet,
20:19 do as I say and I will look out for you for a position up the road, because if you are a field slave, just be quiet
20:27 and sooner than later I will make you a house slave, preach Pastor Byrd.
20:32 Let me tell you something, I have learned nobody hires you to make you rich, they hire you to make them rich.
20:42 They do not pay you so you can have retirement, they pay you enough so you will come to work on Monday morning.
20:49 Give you enough benefit so you can make them money and you will not quit the job. You all do not hear what I am saying,
20:54 you all not ready for this. But if you got vision that is bigger than the system.
20:59 You have to learn how to open up some stuff in your life. You got to have more than one thing going on in your life.
21:06 You got to have something else going on, you got to do something else. So whatever that is, do it. Write a book,
21:12 get some professional development. Take a computer class. Start a new degree or finish the degree you started.
21:20 Do some workshops, teach a class. You cannot waste your time fixing to or getting ready to. But you got to understand somebody,
21:30 that this is the day the Lord hath made, let us rejoice and be glad in it, get out of Egypt.
21:38 Stop complaining about what you do not have and use what you do have. God has not led and brought you this far to leave you.
21:45 I am almost done but I got to say this, Carol Linda Anne at night says, many of us struggle with low self-esteem
21:51 because we are more familiar with the American side of who we are than the African side. She says,
21:57 but we need to get in touch with the African side of our identity.
22:01 Then we will know that we came from a great family structure where men are Kings where women are Queens.
22:09 Where children affirm every aspect of their identity. We need to remember the great ancient cities that were built,
22:18 the many contributions that we made to medicine and science, literature and the arts, religion and business.
22:27 We need to get in touch friends of mine with the African side to know that we are a great people.
22:33 We are a great people with a great history.
22:37 And so we got to stop reciting the failure studies that have been done in our communities.
22:43 That is a plot and plan of the enemy. We must never forget that our God has always done great things through Africans.
22:52 What am I talking about? They gave us straw but we gave them bricks. They gave us seeds but we gave them cotton.
22:59 They gave us sorrow, but we gave them songs. They gave us pain, but we gave them poems. They gave us trouble,
23:06 but we turned it into a testimony. They gave us segregation, but we gave them Spellman. They gave us misery,
23:13 but we gave them Morehouse. They gave us terror but we gave them Tuskegee. They gave us horror, but we gave them Howard.
23:20 They gave us failures, but we gave them Fisk. They gave us opposition, so we started Oakwood.
23:27 And when we realize who we are, and we realize whose we are,
23:32 then we will begin to see deliverance from a mindset that tries to keep us from experiencing what God has for our lives.
23:39 Get out of Egypt. I said, get out of Egypt. God already parted the Red Sea. God has already given you water out of a rock.
23:52 God has already giving you Manna from heaven. God healed you through a brazen serpent. Physically you are out of Egypt
24:01 but mentally get out of Egypt. Stop being oppressed by Egypt system. Stop murmuring, stop complaining, get out of Egypt.
24:10 But it is not just Egypt mindset.
24:14 It is not just Egypt system, but it is also Egypt sins. You got to get out of Egypt and let them sins go too.
24:24 You see if you are holding on to something, that does not belong to you
24:28 and was never intended for your life then you better let it go. Are you hearing what I am saying? You got to let it go.
24:33 If you are holding on to envy, jealousy and a crab mentality against somebody else, you got to let it go.
24:40 If you are holding on to past hurts and pains, let it go.
24:45 If someone cannot treat you right and love you back and see your worth, you got to let it go.
24:51 If somebody has angered you, you got to let it go. If you are holding on to some thoughts of evil revenge and retribution Let it go.
25:01 If you are in a bad relationship or a phase with a bad addiction, you have got to let it go.
25:07 If there is a sin that is making you do permanent things with temporary people, you have got to let it go.
25:14 If you are holding on to a job that no longer meets your needs or your talents, let it go. If you got a bad attitude,
25:22 let it go. If you keep judging others to make yourself better, let it go. If you keep minimizing somebody else to maximize yourself,
25:31 let it go. If you are stuck in the past and God is trying to take you in your future, let it go.
25:37 if you are struggling with the healing of a broken relationship, let it go.
25:41 If you are trying to help somebody who would not try to help themselves, let them go.
25:46 If you are feeling depressed and stress, let it go.
25:50 If there is a particular situation that you are so used to handling yourself and God is saying take your hands off it, let it go.
25:57 If there is a habit that you are holding on to, that is compromising your relationship with the Lord, let it go.
26:03 If there is a sin that is so easily besetting you and separating you from God, let it go, get out of Egypt. God loves you.
26:13 God died to save you. God rose for you. God is coming back to get you, get out of Egypt. Stop suffering from an Egypt mentality.
26:21 Stop suffering from an Egypt system. Stop suffering and being enslaved with Egypt's sins, let it go and get out of Egypt.
26:32 God wants to deliver you. God wants to save you. God wants to part your Red Sea. God wants to give you water out of a rock.
26:46 God wants to give you Manna, the bread of life so you can eat. God wants to heal you of your diseases,
26:58 but today you got to get out of Egypt so you can walk into your promise land.
27:10 Thank you very much for tuning in to this week's Breath of Life broadcast.
