00:09 historic Manhattan Center with your host Doug Batchelor.
00:13 Join this exciting journey of discovery as we learn the truth
00:17 about Bible prophecy, explore the timeless wisdom of God's
00:21 Word, and see how it relates to our lives today.
00:25 Stay tuned your "Amazing Facts" adventure begins now.
00:31 Doug Batchelor : You know, whenever I present this subject,
00:32 I do it with much prayer because the adversary, I can promise
00:37 you, is not happy that were exposing his tactics, but I know
00:42 that there are people around the world that are hedging in this
00:46 entire event with prayer.
00:48 Bible says, "The angel of the Lord encamps round about those
00:52 that serve Him and delivers them," and the devil was mad at
00:56 the Lord and he says, "You set a hedge about Job."
00:59 And we're praying that God will just hedge in this whole series
01:01 with this protection because we're going to tell you what the
01:04 devil's up to.
01:06 He appears all the way from Genesis to Revelation, and the
01:10 battle between good and evil is one of the central battles that
01:14 you're going to find in the books of prophecy.
01:18 So, you need to understand the enemy and what you're
01:21 up against.
01:22 I don't like to focus on the devil.
01:24 I don't spend an inordinate amount of time talking about it,
01:28 but Jesus talked about the devil, so we must to understand
01:34 his tactics.
01:35 Paul said we do not want to be ignorant of Satan's devices.
01:40 Well, we always like to start with an amazing fact, and you
01:43 know, I don't think I ever did mention that you might wonder
01:47 what is "Amazing Facts" and where did you come from?
01:49 "Amazing Facts" has been around now over 65 years.
01:53 Started with a 15 minute radio program that began with an
01:57 amazing fact from science or from history or from nature and
02:02 then we would weave in spiritual biblical truth and it just
02:05 became very popular and grew from radio to television to
02:08 Bible school to mission training and we've got mission training
02:12 schools around the world and broadcast and God just has been
02:15 blessing, ministry has been growing by faith for over 65
02:20 years now.
02:21 But we like amazing facts and I love amazing facts.
02:25 Well, we're going to start with one about the octopus.
02:29 Now Karen and I, we have our scuba license and we like
02:31 to dive.
02:32 We were diving off of Egypt a couple of years ago and the
02:36 octopus is an amazing creature.
02:39 It's among the most flexible and versatile and clever, very
02:44 intelligent, they say it's intelligence level is on the
02:47 same level as a dog.
02:49 When it comes to disguise, an octopus is the ultimate
02:53 chameleon thanks to special cells in its skin.
02:57 It's not only able to change the color in just the flash of a
03:01 moment, but it can change the texture of its skin, so it can
03:06 suddenly look like a rock on the sea floor or appear like the
03:10 coral where it's hiding.
03:11 There's an octopus in that picture.
03:13 That octopus that you're looking at, if he wants, he can turn
03:16 purple or red, and he can look--they can change and look
03:19 like a crab walking, they can look like a fish swimming, they
03:22 can even make themselves look like a sea snake.
03:25 They're so clever they will find an empty clamshell, they'll get
03:28 inside the clamshell, they'll open and close the clamshell and
03:32 stick one little tentacle out like a worm to lure fish over
03:35 and then they pounce.
03:37 They have a famous way--if people put them in aquariums of
03:40 escaping from the aquariums.
03:42 They're incredible.
03:43 And if they're being pursued by a predator, they'll let out a
03:47 blast of ink and then jet off in another direction, leaving their
03:52 predator totally bewildered and confused.
03:55 No, I have nothing against octopus, but it makes me think
03:57 about the devil who is a master deceiver.
04:04 And through history, the devil has also inspired and possessed
04:10 individuals that have deceived.
04:13 Jesus said, "In the last days there will be false Christ."
04:16 Jesus came into the world to show us what God is like.
04:21 It's called the incarnation, God became a man.
04:24 Before the second coming, the devil is going to come and
04:28 impersonate Christ and deceive much of the world.
04:32 We need to know how to spot him and recognize his devices.
04:36 Another little fact of history, some of you may have heard of
04:39 Grigori Rasputin.
04:42 You know, for years the Russian family, Tzar Alexander and for
04:46 generations back they ruled Russia with the imperial family
04:50 and there was this peasant born in Siberia, very clever, and he
04:57 became something of a mystic quasi-priest.
05:01 He went to Saint Petersburg and he sort of wormed his way into
05:05 the upper echelons, a very clever manipulating man,
05:09 very charismatic.
05:11 He finally said that he believed he could heal Tzar Alexander's
05:15 son Alexei, that was a hemophiliac.
05:18 And they brought him into the palace, and it seemed like his
05:21 advice when followed was helping the boy.
05:24 He eventually wormed his way into the royal court and began
05:27 to manipulate the family, especially the Tzar's wife.
05:30 Some accused him of having a--an affair, but that was
05:33 never proven.
05:35 And started encouraging military decisions.
05:39 And the advice was just awful.
05:43 And finally the imperial family disintegrated, communism
05:47 took over.
05:48 They were assassinated and so was Rasputin.
05:50 Historians look back and say--they call him the mad monk.
05:56 Because of the evil influence of this mad monk, the whole kingdom
05:59 was lost.
06:01 And the devil is a master manipulator.
06:06 Now, before we go to our lesson, we like to go out and just talk
06:08 to people on the streets and ask if there's a good God, then why
06:13 is there so much evil in the world and a couple of
06:15 other questions.
06:16 So, let's take a listen to what our people on the street
06:18 have to say.
06:20 female: I believe that there's evil in the world because so
06:23 many people are looking to fill the hole in their heart with
06:26 things that are not sustainable, like how Jesus Christ
06:29 is sustainable.
06:31 male: Maybe it has to do with your upbringing?
06:32 female: Well, because people are not looking for God, they don't
06:37 have God in their lives.
06:39 male: It's human nature, I guess.
06:40 female: Oh, that's a trick question.
06:43 Yes.
06:44 female: Ah, probably not in the traditional sense.
06:47 Probably not how most people believe in the devil.
06:51 I think there's a balance of bad and good in the world.
06:55 male: No.
06:57 male: And maybe the presence of Satan is a kind of way to like
07:01 guide people away from him, but I think, you know, maybe he
07:06 needs him.
07:07 female: To know the difference between the good thing and the
07:09 bad thing and--.
07:11 male: You know, I've had that same thought myself, along with
07:14 other thoughts, but yeah, I don't know.
07:18 I don't know.
07:20 male: Wow, that's a very good question.
07:21 I don't know.
07:22 I think it's far more, you know, I don't know if I can answer
07:26 that question, you know?
07:28 male: They can duke it out three or four rounds, probably, I
07:31 don't know.
07:32 I honestly don't have an answer to that.
07:35 Doug: Well, there you have it.
07:37 One thing is perfectly clear is that people are not perfectly
07:39 clear on whether or not there is a devil, and if there is a
07:44 devil, why would God make a devil and if God's more powerful
07:47 than the devil, is God evil in allowing the devil to do evil?
07:51 How many of you have thought these things or wondered or
07:53 heard these questions before?
07:55 You just think about it.
07:57 If God is love, if God is good, if God is all powerful, then why
08:02 is there so much suffering and evil in the world?
08:06 This is one of the most important questions that we need
08:09 to understand and if you pay attention and study the lesson
08:12 tonight, you're going to have the most important answers.
08:16 Why is there evil in the world today if God is good and He is a
08:20 loving God?
08:21 Well, to get the answer to that, we need to go to the questions.
08:23 We're going to go to the Bible, and these lessons, of course,
08:26 we're on lesson number 3 tonight, talking about this arch
08:29 villain, and we're going to begin with question number one.
08:33 The Bible says God did not make a devil.
08:37 Every good and perfect gift comes from God.
08:39 According to James, God is good, good.
08:42 Jesus said, "God is good."
08:45 In the beginning, when He made the world, said it was good, and
08:49 He saw that it was good, and it was good, and it was very good.
08:54 The word God comes from, it's derived from the word good, the
08:59 goodness of God.
09:00 And why would a good God make a bad devil?
09:03 He didn't.
09:04 He made a good angel.
09:06 You can read about this in a few principal passages.
09:09 If you look in your Bible in Isaiah chapter 14, "How are you
09:14 fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning!"
09:19 When you say the word Luce, it means light.
09:21 Some of you have heard of lucite or luminescence.
09:24 It's talking about light.
09:26 He was a glorious morning star, a bright angel.
09:30 God made a beautiful angel.
09:32 The most powerful of his created intelligent beings was this
09:37 mighty general, this angel that we know as Lucifer.
09:42 If you had known him back then, you would have liked him.
09:45 The other angels loved him.
09:46 Some people like him the way he is today.
09:49 But God didn't make anything evil.
09:52 You know, I think it's probably a good idea.
09:53 I always like to start by turning to the book itself.
09:56 If you have your Bibles or on your phones, you at home,
09:59 hopefully you have Bibles at your fingertips.
10:01 Turn to Isaiah chapter 14.
10:04 The principal passages where you're going to find information
10:08 about the devil that goes back in time is Isaiah 14, Ezekiel
10:13 28, Revelation chapter 12, and a few other places, but we're
10:17 going to go to Isaiah 14.
10:18 We'll start with verse 12, "How you are fallen from heaven, O
10:24 Lucifer," see Jesus said, "I saw Satan cast from heaven."
10:28 "How you are fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning!
10:31 How you are cut down to the ground, You who weakened
10:34 the nations!
10:37 For you have said in your heart: 'I will ascend into heaven, I
10:42 will exalt my throne above the stars of God; I will also sit on
10:46 the mount of the congregation On the farthest sides
10:49 of the north--'" that means the heights.
10:52 "I will ascend above the heights of the clouds, I will be like
10:57 the Most High."
10:59 He wanted God's position.
11:01 Yet God says, "You will be brought down to Sheol, To the
11:05 lowest depths of the Pit."
11:08 He wanted to exalt himself higher and higher and higher,
11:12 and if you have your Bibles, you may just turn quickly to Ezekiel
11:14 28, and we'll start reading here in verse 14 and then we'll get
11:19 to the lessons here.
11:21 It says, "You were the anointed cherub," how many of you
11:25 remember, you've probably seen images even in the movies, what
11:28 they call the ark of the covenant?
11:31 It's this golden box that had the ten commandments on the top.
11:34 They called it the mercy seat, and the shekhinah glory of God
11:37 would appear to Moses and the high priest between these two
11:40 golden cherub angels.
11:43 Now they were golden angels, and heaven God has real angels.
11:48 You read in Isaiah chapter 6, it says, "In the year that King
11:51 Isaiah died, I saw the Lord high and lifted up.
11:55 The train of His robe filled the temple, and on the right and on
11:58 the left there are these cherubim.
12:01 And they're saying the Seraphim and they're saying, 'Holy, holy,
12:05 holy is the Lord of God."'
12:07 The Lord Almighty is flanked by these two mighty beings.
12:12 Lucifer held the highest position.
12:14 Ezekiel's reminding us of that.
12:17 "You were the anointed cherub who covers;" one of the covering
12:19 angels, "I established you; You were on the holy mountain of
12:23 God; You walk back and forth in the midst of the fiery stones.
12:28 You were perfect," you were what?
12:31 "You were perfect in all your ways from the day you were
12:35 created," he wasn't born.
12:36 Angels aren't born.
12:37 Jesus said they don't marry or given in marriage.
12:40 They're created, "Until iniquity was found in you."
12:46 Now we'll go to some other passages a little later on, but
12:49 I just wanted that as a background for where
12:51 we're going.
12:53 All right, going back to our question number one,
12:54 second part.
12:56 Lucifer was his name.
13:00 Second part, Isaiah 14:13 and 14, "For you said in
13:04 your," what?
13:05 "Said in your heart, 'I will be like the Most High.'"
13:09 He wanted God's position.
13:12 The devil became jealous that he did not have the same power of
13:16 Christ to create and he wanted to take that from Him.
13:21 It says, "Your heart was lifted up because of your," what?
13:26 "Your beauty; you corrupted your wisdom for the sake of
13:30 your splendor."
13:32 Here it depicts this beautiful splendid being.
13:37 Now, we've been here three nights.
13:39 I hope you trust me.
13:41 Would you trust me for just a moment?
13:42 I want you to just imagine something, but you're going to
13:44 have to close your eyes to imagine this.
13:46 So, for just--I promise I won't do anything to you.
13:49 No hypnosis, just trust me.
13:51 Close your eyes for just a moment and I want you to picture
13:54 what do you see when you think of the devil?
13:57 What do people usually see when they think of the devil?
13:59 How many of you will make you saw something red?
14:02 Fess up, all right.
14:04 How many saw a pitchfork?
14:08 That ostensibly is so he can keep people evenly cooked in
14:10 Hades, right?
14:13 How many saw a creature with a goatee in your minds?
14:18 Bat wings, anybody?
14:21 Red circus leotards?
14:25 You know, I grew a goatee a few years ago back when my hair
14:27 before it turned gray.
14:30 And somebody said, "Doug, you can't do what you do with
14:33 a goatee."
14:34 He said, "You look like the devil."
14:38 I said, "What makes you think he's got a goatee?
14:41 Where in the Bible does it say he's got a goatee?"
14:45 They said, "I don't know, but you look like a
14:46 sinister minister.
14:48 You need to get rid of that."
14:50 And Karen tells me to shave it off, but isn't, you know, you
14:54 talk about red devil paint or other people say devil's
14:58 food cake.
14:59 And if you look at these modern concepts of the devil, this is
15:04 what people think.
15:05 If they think of some ghoulish creature that is, you know, like
15:08 a goblin and hideous looking and scary, but what does he really
15:15 look like according to the Bible?
15:18 You know, the Bible tells us that in 2 Corinthians chapter
15:22 "11, Do not be surprised, for Satan himself can be transformed
15:27 into an angel of lights."
15:31 The devil wants you to think that he's this medieval ghoulish
15:37 creature, but in reality, he can impersonate Christ.
15:42 And he often comes as a creature of light and a creature
15:45 of glory.
15:47 So, the devil, the Bible says, he was a beautiful, he
15:52 was splendid.
15:54 He just assumed that he--you think of him in terms of this
15:58 terrifying ugly creature.
16:00 In reality, in the last days, he's going to appear as people's
16:04 modern concept of Jesus around the world performing miracles,
16:08 quoting some of the Scripture, and much of the world is going
16:12 to be deceived.
16:13 Revelation chapter 12 says, "Who deceiveth the whole world?"
16:17 If he looked like that guy in red leotards with the pitchfork
16:21 and the horns, would he deceive anybody?
16:24 Who's going to listen to that?
16:26 So, did God make a devil when He created Lucifer?
16:30 No, Bible says, "You were perfect in your ways from the
16:35 day you were created, until iniquity was found in you."
16:41 Now, I want you to think about something for a minute.
16:45 I think everybody here will agree with me that we want love.
16:50 I don't know about you.
16:52 I mean, I don't want to sound too self-centered, but if I had
16:54 a choice, I prefer to be liked, as opposed to being unliked.
17:00 You ask any girl when she's courting, she wants to
17:05 be wanted.
17:06 How many will admit that?
17:09 Some of you didn't raise your hand, you're lying.
17:12 You want to be wanted and that's a sin.
17:15 You want to be wanted. Boys want to be wanted.
17:18 Everyone wants to be wanted. God wants us to want Him, right?
17:22 We all want love.
17:25 Why didn't God make Lucifer where there was no
17:28 bad transistors?
17:29 Obviously, does God know everything?
17:32 Did God know that someday Lucifer was going to go bad?
17:36 If He knows everything, yeah, then why did He make him?
17:40 See, some people start blaming God.
17:41 Now let me explain how this--once you get this, light's
17:44 going to go on.
17:47 Can you make somebody love?
17:51 AI can do anything.
17:54 I've discovered recently, I'm probably the last one who's
17:57 discovered it, they got this program now called Chat GTP
17:59 where you just give it a few cues and it'll write a letter
18:03 for you.
18:05 So, I would like a love letter.
18:09 And so, I turn on my Chat GTP and I say, "Please compose a
18:16 love letter for me talking about Doug, how intelligent and
18:23 beautiful and handsome and irresistible he is."
18:32 Wait for it.
18:36 Okay, you ready?
18:39 "Dear Doug, I hope this letter finds you well.
18:43 I wanted to take a moment to express just how much you mean
18:46 to me and how deeply I appreciate everything about you.
18:50 First and foremost, your beauty is something that never ceases
18:54 to amaze me.
18:57 Whether," I didn't write this honest, Chat GTP, "whether it is
19:00 the sparkle in your eyes or the warmth of your smile," Karen,
19:05 you ought to use this next time.
19:09 "Or the way you carry yourself with such grace and confidence,"
19:14 and it's true too, yeah.
19:18 "And you are truly a sight to behold.
19:20 Your presence lights up any room, and I feel incredibly
19:23 lucky to be able to witness your beauty every day.
19:27 Beyond your physical appearance and your wisdom is something I
19:30 deeply admire.
19:32 You have a way of seeing the world that is both insightful
19:33 and inspiring.
19:35 Your advice has guided me through many of tough times, and
19:39 your perspective always helps me see things in a new light.
19:43 I am constantly learning from you and I am grateful for the
19:47 wisdom you share so generously.
19:50 Your sense of humor is another quality I cherish.
19:54 You have an incredible ability to make me laugh even during the
19:58 darkest days.
19:59 Your jokes and your playful banter and your infectious
20:02 laughter bring me so much joy.
20:05 I love how we can share moments of silliness and fun, making
20:09 every day a little brighter.
20:11 And then there's your physical strength.
20:14 Whether it's helping out with heavy lifting or tackling
20:17 challenges or simply being there to offer strong and comforting
20:21 embrace, your strength is something I deeply appreciate.
20:24 It's not just about you, the physical aspect plus all the
20:27 strength of your character and the way you stand by me through
20:30 thick and thin.
20:32 Doug, you are an extraordinary person.
20:35 I'm so grateful to have you in my life.
20:38 Your beauty, wisdom, humor, and strength make you truly one of
20:41 a kind.
20:43 Thank you for being you and for sharing your wonderful self
20:47 with me."
20:49 After reading that, I think I'm going to leave Karen and run off
20:51 with my phone.
20:57 It's been good, dear, all these years, but I've never had this
21:01 kind of appreciation before.
21:05 So, let me ask you.
21:07 And while I find this entertaining, do I think for a
21:11 moment that my phone loves me like Karen?
21:15 It is telling me what it was programmed to say.
21:20 That is not love.
21:21 God cannot pre-program his intelligent creatures to love.
21:25 He gives them freedom.
21:27 The greatest proof he gives that freedom is the evil in the
21:30 world today.
21:32 And that's why He doesn't just destroy the devil.
21:36 He wants our love.
21:38 Now He knows whether or not we're going to love Him.
21:41 He knows because he knows everything, but you still have
21:43 freedom to choose.
21:46 And God values real love so much that He even took the risk to
21:52 make a creature that would process in his own mind that he
21:56 chose to love himself more than God and that's what's caused all
21:58 the problem in the universe, is the devil's self love.
22:02 You see, God created his creatures for love to go out.
22:07 What's the great commandment?
22:08 Love the Lord, love your neighbor, and lastly, as you
22:12 love yourself.
22:14 The devil, the compass needle broke.
22:16 It's love yourself first.
22:19 And all of us have got a broken compass needle.
22:22 We're all, without salvation and the Holy Spirit, we're
22:25 selfish creatures.
22:27 And Jesus came, He was motivated by the love of God.
22:31 It was a love to give, a love that went out, and He wants to
22:34 give us that love.
22:36 Lucifer, you notice what he wanted?
22:37 He wanted God's position.
22:39 You find the word pride, you find the word Lucifer, you find
22:43 the word sin, and at the middle of all those words,
22:46 what do you find?
22:47 The letter I: I, I, I.
22:50 The devil had I problems.
22:53 "I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne.
22:55 I will sit--." I.
22:57 You know, they say people that are struggling with
23:00 insanity use the words I, me, my, mine and myself five times
23:05 more than sane people.
23:08 Selfishness is a form of insanity, and you will
23:12 self destruct.
23:13 God did not make us to live unto ourselves.
23:16 He made us to learn to love and to give and to think of others.
23:21 It is more blessed that Jesus said to give than receive.
23:23 The devil's whole wiring is broken.
23:27 And when Adam and Eve chose to listen to the devil instead of
23:29 God, we ended up with the same problem.
23:32 Question number three.
23:33 What finally happened to Lucifer?
23:37 Well, as he began to resent that he was not God, that he did not
23:39 have the power that God had, he began to sow seeds of discord
23:44 among the other angels in heaven.
23:46 And he started saying, "You know, God doesn't give
23:49 us freedom.
23:50 We don't need God's laws to guide us.
23:52 We are intelligent creatures.
23:54 We don't need to rule one God.
23:56 I'm just as powerful as God.
23:58 We could also worship me," and he was able, like the best
24:03 politician ever to persuade one third of the angels to follow
24:07 him until finally, and God's very patient, we don't know how
24:10 long this dispute transpired, but eventually there was a war
24:16 that broke out in heaven.
24:18 And you read here in Revelation 12:7, "And war broke
24:23 out," where?
24:25 You usually don't think of heaven and war together, do you?
24:28 "Michael and his angels fought with the dragon," and Michael is
24:32 a symbolic name, "and the dragon," is a symbolic name,
24:36 "and his angels fought."
24:39 And the Bible says ultimately they are cast out.
24:41 Number four, what powerful beings work under the
24:45 devil's command?
24:47 We just referenced that.
24:48 If you read in Revelation 12:7, "And war broke out in heaven:
24:54 Michael and his angels fought with the dragon; and the dragon
24:57 and his angels fought, but they did not prevail, nor was a place
25:03 found for them in heaven any longer.
25:05 So that great dragon was cast out," and who's the
25:08 great dragon?
25:10 "That serpent of old, called the Devil and Satan," who's
25:14 the dragon?
25:15 Do we have to guess?
25:16 It's the devil, Satan, "Who deceives the whole world."
25:20 Even Jesus said the devil is the prince of this world.
25:24 "And his angels were cast out with him."
25:28 All right, so a lot of times when people are saying, "Well,
25:30 there was a ghost that was spooking me," it's not a ghost,
25:33 it's fallen angels.
25:35 Sometimes we call them goblins and demons and evil spirits, and
25:38 the Bible talks about them in the New and the Old Testament.
25:41 There's not only a battle between Christ and Satan,
25:44 there's a battle between the good angels and the bad angels.
25:47 And you probably all seen cartoons and there's a certain
25:50 amount of truth to it, where they got the good angel with the
25:52 halo on one wing and he's saying, "Do what's right."
25:55 Then you got the bad angel on the other side, he says, "No, do
25:57 what's bad."
25:59 And it's really our conscience.
26:01 It's the Holy Spirit and the devil tempting.
26:04 So, it's a very real battle we face every day.

26:15 He came to show us the Father.
26:17 He said, "If you've seen Me, you've seen the Father."
