00:01 Hey, campers, welcome to Kitchen Fun.
00:03 Left, left, left, right, left.
00:07 Hey, girls.
00:08 Attention.
00:10 What's going on here?
00:12 Just play along.
00:13 She gets like this sometimes.
00:15 Okay, campers.
00:16 I'm only gonna say this once.
00:19 We are about to embark
00:20 to the frontlines of the kitchen.
00:23 Did you just say frontlines?
00:25 I'm not gonna lie.
00:27 It can get pretty messy out there.
00:29 So make sure you are prepared for what you're about to see.
00:33 Julie, we're making tortilla shells today.
00:35 I don't think it could get that bad.
00:37 Oh, shh.
00:39 You don't know what I've seen, soldier,
00:42 flour and water can make for a dangerous mix.
00:51 Okay, before we begin, you need to take up your dough.
00:56 Left, left, left, r...
01:00 Guys, you're supposed to follow me.
01:04 Left, right, left.
01:06 Left.
01:08 Attention.
01:11 This dough right here
01:13 indicates the significance of your dedication
01:16 to 3ABN's Kitchen Fun.
01:18 You have enlisted
01:19 in the operation of tortilla shells
01:22 where you will be undertaking a precarious task.
01:26 Yet I have faith in each and every one of you.
01:29 Thank you all for your adherence
01:31 and fraternization.
01:34 Our what?
01:36 Listen up, soldiers.
01:37 There are seven different obstacles you must complete
01:40 before you can complete the perfect tortilla shell.
01:44 This includes measuring, stirring, seasoning,
01:47 rolling, cooking, and finally cleaning.
01:51 That's only six.
01:53 Here, take these.
01:57 And make this network proud.
02:00 Can you handle the heat?
02:03 Yes, ma'am.
02:04 I think you're ready.
02:09 Closer, closer.
02:13 Closer.
02:15 Oh, yeah.
02:19 Faster.
02:30 Saltier?
02:36 Less saltier.
02:43 Flatter.
02:44 Harder.
02:47 Perfect.
02:51 Cleaner!
02:55 I didn't know making tortilla shells
02:56 could be such a workout.
02:58 You're telling me, my arms feel like noodles.
03:02 Oh, looks like Kitchen Fun's about to start.
03:05 Whether you eat or drink or whatever you do...
03:08 Do it all to the glory of God.
03:10 Kitchen Fun is up next.
03:14 Wavier.
03:38 Hello and welcome to our Kids Camp Kitchen Fun.
03:44 Do you like to have fun in the kitchen?
03:46 Because I know I love to be in the kitchen.
03:50 We have some boys and girls here.
03:52 Do you guys like to be in the kitchen?
03:54 Yes. Oh.
03:56 And guess what we're gonna make today.
04:01 Who knows what this is?
04:04 I do. What?
04:06 A tortilla.
04:07 That's right!
04:08 We're gonna be making homemade tortillas.
04:12 Who likes tortillas?
04:13 I do.
04:15 Boys and girls, do you like tortillas?
04:18 You're gonna learn today just how easy this is.
04:22 And don't worry if you don't know,
04:24 you know, if you can't get the recipe written down
04:26 as I read the ingredients
04:28 because you can always go
04:30 to 3ABNkidsCamp.tv
04:36 and get the recipes later.
04:38 Recipe, okay.
04:39 So you can relax and have fun with us
04:41 and you can learn and see how it's done.
04:45 I'm gonna have you get your red mixing bowls.
04:49 Get your big, red mixing bowls.
04:51 And, kids, remember you're working in teams
04:55 and when we work in a team, what do we do?
04:58 We work together and we share, okay?
05:01 So make sure we work together and share.
05:04 So for this recipe, it's gonna get a little messy.
05:08 So we have some gloves here.
05:10 So let's put our gloves on.
05:14 We're gonna really have some fun today.
05:18 We're gonna get our gloves on.
05:20 Boys and girls, if you don't have gloves at home,
05:23 it's okay you can get your hands dirty
05:25 because you can have fun cleaning them up, huh?
05:29 It's not a problem.
05:31 Okay, get your gloves on.
05:35 Got your gloves on?
05:37 Got one on?
05:39 All right.
05:40 I got mine on, who's got their gloves on?
05:45 Okay.
05:46 So now I want you to put three cups
05:50 of the whole wheat flour in your bowl.
05:55 So make sure,
05:57 these are the liquid measuring cups,
05:59 but it'll still measure for us but you just see the one line.
06:04 So make sure your flour just goes to this one line.
06:08 Oh, I see our referees are bringing us some cups.
06:12 And so now you don't have to worry about it.
06:16 So, with this, let me show you since you're getting a cup,
06:20 let's show you right here.
06:22 When you're measuring flour, boys and girls,
06:24 you want to make sure that you get it even.
06:27 So you, you put your,
06:29 put it in your flour in like this.
06:32 And then you can use your fingers if you want
06:35 or you can use your rubber spatula
06:37 and you can scrape it off
06:39 and that way you get it nice and even.
06:41 See that?
06:42 Okay.
06:43 So there's your one cup.
06:45 And how many cups did I say you needed?
06:47 Three. Okay.
06:48 So take turns and let's put your three cups in there.
06:54 You got here, you guys, here's...
06:56 you can use this one.
06:57 There you go.
07:00 I'll use this one.
07:01 And I got to make sure that I get it even too.
07:04 One.
07:08 Two, you guys with me?
07:11 Who's with me? I don't hear anything.
07:14 Two.
07:17 Okay, I think I'm almost ready with my third cup.
07:22 There, three, I got three.
07:24 Okay, I'm having a flour cloud over here.
07:29 Okay, now you're gonna need one teaspoon of salt.
07:33 So here's your salt in this bowl right here.
07:37 And you want a level teaspoon.
07:40 So...
07:42 You don't have a teaspoon?
07:43 How about if I share?
07:45 Oh, there's your teaspoon.
07:47 There you go.
07:48 Otherwise I would have shared with you.
07:50 Okay, so when you're doing flour,
07:52 boys and girls, you don't want, I mean salt.
07:54 You don't wanna go like this.
07:56 You wanna make sure you level this off
07:58 because otherwise
07:59 your tortillas are gonna be too salty.
08:01 So do it like that, okay?
08:03 You boys and girls, level it off like I had
08:05 you level the flour, okay?
08:07 Say put in, did I just take your spatula?
08:10 There you go.
08:11 Okay, level your salt off and pour it into your flour.
08:16 I'll level mine off.
08:17 There you go.
08:19 And mix that up.
08:20 Do you have a mixing spoon?
08:22 Mix that up with your spatula,
08:23 you can mix it up with your spatula.
08:26 Now you're gonna need one teaspoon of baking powder.
08:31 Okay, you need one teaspoon, so put one level teaspoon in.
08:35 You, well, I'll get some baking powder
08:37 for you too, okay.
08:39 So boys and girls, it's very important
08:42 because baking powder
08:43 is what's gonna make your tortilla bubble a little bit
08:46 and get nice and airy
08:48 which will make a nice light, fluffy tortilla.
08:51 So you wanna make sure you add the baking powder.
08:54 Okay, put that in.
08:56 And if you don't mind, we'll borrow this.
08:59 Oh, you've got one, okay.
09:00 So this, this baking powder can has a leveler on it,
09:04 so you just go like that.
09:06 Okay? And we'll put that in.
09:08 Okay, stir that up, boys and girls.
09:12 Okay.
09:14 And now you're gonna use your cup
09:18 and I'm gonna have to wipe my mine out
09:20 'cause I used flour on it
09:21 and I'm not gonna be able to see.
09:24 We have to be able to see my measurements
09:26 to make them even.
09:27 Okay.
09:29 So this is, this is what you should always use
09:32 when you're doing liquid measuring, okay?
09:35 So make sure you can see
09:36 'cause we're gonna have 1/3 cup of oil
09:41 and one cup of water.
09:43 So let's do our water first, okay?
09:48 So take your water but when you're measuring,
09:51 wait, wait, wait, guys, when you're measuring,
09:54 you need to take your measuring cup
09:56 and set it on your surface
09:58 because if you're holding your measuring cup
10:01 you can maybe change the level a little bit
10:04 and you won't get as accurate.
10:05 So make sure you set it down,
10:07 you could even peek down low like this
10:10 and make sure that you get it right to the line
10:13 that says one cup, okay?
10:16 Let's all do that
10:17 right to your line that says one cup.
10:22 Oh, let's see.
10:24 Okay.
10:26 I got mine.
10:28 And now you're gonna pour it in,
10:31 kind of make a little hole in the middle of your,
10:33 of your flour.
10:36 Make a little hole,
10:37 see how I got a little hole in mine.
10:40 You see that?
10:41 See, make a little hole in the middle of it,
10:43 you see that?
10:45 Yeah. Uh-huh?
10:46 Perfect. Yep.
10:47 You guys make a,
10:49 see how I'm making a little hole
10:50 in the middle of mine?
10:51 Make a little hole in the middle.
10:53 You guys see this?
10:54 Make, yeah, perfect.
10:56 You guys make a little hole.
10:58 Then pour it in.
10:59 Now measure a third cup of oil
11:02 and pour it on top of your water.
11:04 Remember, hold down your measuring cup.
11:08 Find the 1/3.
11:09 It's one slash three.
11:12 Find your 1/3.
11:15 Let's find mine.
11:16 Right there.
11:19 And you're gonna get 1/3 cup of oil.
11:24 Okay.
11:25 Yep.
11:28 And then pour that in the middle
11:30 with the water, okay?
11:34 And now you can stir it up.
11:38 And be careful
11:40 'cause it'll splash all over everywhere.
11:43 And you want to stir it
11:45 and get all that flour into a dough.
11:49 Good.
11:51 Can you, and trade
11:52 and let Cadence stir too.
11:57 Okay, when you get your flour all kind of corporate,
12:00 incorporated into a dough,
12:02 so you look at mine, Sebby.
12:05 See you wanna, and go up to the bottom and get it all,
12:10 get it all looking like a dough.
12:12 See?
12:15 See how it's kind of like a dough.
12:17 See, take your spatula and lift up.
12:21 So, boys and girls, you wanna take your spatula,
12:25 and I'm gonna tip this
12:26 and you're gonna go all the way to the bottom
12:29 and flip your dough over
12:31 so that you can get all the flour mixed up
12:34 so it makes the dough, okay.
12:36 You guys see?
12:39 Oh, good.
12:41 How are we doing over here, guys?
12:44 Lift all the way,
12:46 go all the way to the bottom and lift up.
12:48 Good job.
12:51 And you know what?
12:53 If you do need to add just a touch more water,
12:55 you can, if yours is too dry but now that you've done this,
13:00 get your hands in there and you can both do this
13:04 and you're gonna work it into a dough.
13:08 See what I'm doing, Sebby?
13:10 Work it into a dough,
13:12 see now get your hands in there and see I'm form,
13:17 I'm kind of forming it into a ball
13:20 but I'm kneading it with my fingers.
13:21 See look, Kenzie and Elijah, see, look.
13:26 Mm-hmm.
13:28 It's really easy, boys and girls,
13:30 I think you'll have fun doing this.
13:32 See how I'm doing this?
13:34 I'm making it into a ball
13:36 and it's kind of like kneading it, okay.
13:39 And you want it to get into a smooth ball.
13:43 See, Tucker, there you go, see.
13:46 See, Kili.
13:50 How's yours doing over here?
13:53 Good?
13:54 How's yours, Oliver?
13:56 See how I'm doing it, you're gonna,
13:58 you can even push down.
14:00 See, look, you can push down like this and turn it,
14:03 push down and turn it.
14:05 Okay?
14:07 Oh, that's very good.
14:08 Okay, now, oh,
14:10 you got to get all that flour in there, though.
14:12 You got to, see, boys and girls,
14:14 I'm gonna show them, so they know what,
14:15 hold this a minute, Cadence.
14:18 Boys and girls, look,
14:19 see all the flour in the bottom of their bowl.
14:21 Whoa, we need to work all that flour into your dough,
14:24 so put it all back into your bowl.
14:26 How are you guys doing over here, Sebby?
14:30 Okay, see how I got my bowl?
14:33 Look at, boys and girls, look how clean my bowl is.
14:36 See?
14:37 That's what you want you want,
14:39 you want a very clean bowl, boys and girls,
14:41 'cause then I have a nice dough.
14:43 So I'm going to form it into a ball.
14:47 And now I'm gonna divide it into, let's see,
14:52 this could make, let me see how many balls, 16.
14:55 So if you want, you only have to make 10
14:59 if you wanna make bigger tortillas
15:01 'cause see I wanted to show you,
15:03 see how I have two different size tortillas?
15:06 So I, you can make small,
15:08 you make any size you want, okay?
15:10 That's the, when you how you shape your ball, here,
15:15 like this is gonna make one big tortilla.
15:19 I think you guys are gonna have a hard time eating
15:22 all this tortilla, what do you think?
15:25 We should probably make this into littler balls.
15:27 So I'm gonna cut,
15:29 I'm gonna just kind of pinch it off like this
15:32 and then you can make a littler ball,
15:34 that's even still a big ball.
15:36 So let's go like this.
15:39 And make some balls.
15:42 And depending like I said, how big you wanna make it,
15:46 this is gonna make a really nice sized tortilla.
15:51 Mm-hmm. Very good.
15:52 Who likes bean burritos?
15:56 I think, do you know
15:57 that I have refried beans right here?
16:00 So you guys could put some refried beans
16:02 in your tortillas, okay?
16:06 And get it all into balls.
16:09 And then we're gonna roll it out
16:11 and I have electric skillet by all of you.
16:14 And I'm going to have some helpers come,
16:18 our assistants because, parents,
16:22 when you're doing this with your kids
16:24 we're using electric skillets
16:27 and you've got to be really careful
16:29 because electric skillets are hot and they will burn.
16:33 So make sure, kids, you do not do this
16:36 unless an adult is with you, okay?
16:39 You can do this part
16:41 but when you're actually cooking your tortilla
16:44 make sure you have an adult with you, okay?
16:46 'Cause we don't wanna get burned, that would not,
16:49 I mean, has anybody ever gotten burned before?
16:52 Yeah. My mom's curling iron.
16:53 Is it fun? No.
16:55 No, it's not fun, is it?
16:58 So I'm asking for an adult to be by all of your tables
17:02 because we need to make sure
17:06 we don't have any burns, huh?
17:09 I've been burned by a curling iron before
17:11 and that's, you know, what?
17:12 She has many scars.
17:14 She does?
17:16 Do you know I don't use a curling iron anymore
17:18 because I got, I just didn't like getting burned.
17:20 And I was like no, I don't need a curling iron.
17:26 What do you think, Sebby?
17:28 I don't need a curling iron, do I?
17:29 No. You don't, do you?
17:33 How are you doing over there?
17:37 Okay, before you do this,
17:39 we need to make it into balls
17:40 and let it sit a little bit, okay.
17:44 You guys, don't start rolling them yet
17:46 'cause you need to get all your dough
17:48 into balls first.
17:51 Roll them up.
17:53 Boy, I'm making some big tortillas here,
17:54 boys and girls.
17:56 Somebody better be hungry when I make them their burrito.
18:02 I don't know, Sebby could probably eat my big burritos,
18:04 couldn't you?
18:09 Are you guys getting yours good?
18:11 Yes.
18:12 All right.
18:14 And then we should have rolling pins for each of you.
18:18 Everybody have a rolling pin?
18:21 I'm gonna move this so we have room.
18:25 In fact, let's just set this over here,
18:29 how about that?
18:30 And that way you'll have room to roll out.
18:33 There we go.
18:34 There we go.
18:36 Good.
18:37 Okay.
18:39 There we go.
18:40 There's mine.
18:42 Oh, you're ahead of me, Sebby, I better get going.
18:46 Are you guys ahead of me too?
18:48 Oh, my, get them into good balls.
18:52 Okay.
18:54 Now what we're gonna do is you all have a rolling pin?
18:59 Does everybody have a rolling pin?
19:00 Let me see your rolling pins.
19:03 Everybody?
19:04 Okay.
19:06 Now I want you to roll them
19:08 as thin as you can in a circle.
19:13 There's a challenge for you, boys and girls.
19:15 Do you think they can make a nice circle?
19:18 We'll see.
19:19 And I bet you could make a nice circle.
19:21 So send me a picture of yours
19:24 'cause I bet they're gonna be really nice and round.
19:28 Okay.
19:30 So you wanna roll them into,
19:31 and you know when you're rolling,
19:33 when you're rolling them,
19:35 you know how to get a good circle?
19:37 You can't really see what I'm doing
19:39 but let me show you roll one side
19:41 and then flip your dough and roll the other.
19:44 Let me see if I can show you.
19:46 Like this? That's close.
19:48 That's a very close circle.
19:49 So now you want to work on this end a little more,
19:52 see how you spread this out and you can get a circle.
19:57 See, keep going, you got a circle.
19:59 How are you guys doing?
20:01 Good job.
20:03 You press a little harder.
20:06 There you go.
20:07 And now you can flip your dough like this.
20:11 And now roll this way.
20:13 No, roll, yes there, roll that way.
20:15 There you go.
20:17 And, assistants, you can turn your electric skillets on.
20:21 How you doing?
20:22 If you know, here you go,
20:25 you're just sticking to your rolling pin.
20:27 We're gonna just,
20:29 we're just gonna hold yours over a fire.
20:35 Okay.
20:36 Okay, roll this way now, so you can get round.
20:39 Very good.
20:40 That's awesome, Oliver.
20:43 Now take it, move it this way and roll this way.
20:49 Well, that's not quite a circle.
20:52 Do you want me to show you?
20:54 Come here.
20:55 So you're gonna go like this,
20:59 let's go like this 'cause you got a nice start.
21:02 We'll fold it over like that.
21:03 Okay, you're ready?
21:05 So we'll go gentle, not so hard,
21:08 just gentle, this way and then lift up and this way.
21:11 Lift up that way.
21:13 There, see how I'm doing it on all sides.
21:17 There you go.
21:18 And there you go.
21:20 No, that's very good.
21:23 That's very good except,
21:25 you know, we're gonna wanna make it a little thinner.
21:27 So, boys and girls,
21:29 you don't wanna get your tortillas real thick
21:32 'cause then you won't have a nice airy tortilla.
21:35 Be careful not to touch the skillet.
21:37 Okay.
21:39 That's better and now work on this side.
21:42 And then when you get that done
21:45 you can put it in your skillet.
21:49 Who's got one rolled out?
21:51 Okay, you can put it in your skillet
21:53 if your skillet is, is it hot, 400?
21:57 Put your skillet to 400.
21:59 'Cause you want it, kids,
22:01 you want to make sure
22:02 that you cook these on high heat, okay?
22:06 Okay, you see this is a little thick right here.
22:08 So you need to thin that out a little bit.
22:12 There you go.
22:14 Okay, and look how at yours is bubbling.
22:19 That's good.
22:21 Boys and girls, if you put your tortilla in
22:24 and it starts to bubble up, that's excellent.
