00:01 Hey, campers,
00:02 you might be wondering why we're in a jailhouse.
00:04 Julie called me and asked me to meet her here,
00:06 so have you guys seen her?
00:09 Oh, campers, you made it.
00:12 Welcome to Bible Gems.
00:15 Julie, what are you wearing?
00:17 And why are we in a jailhouse?
00:19 Tierra, I told you, in today's Bible story,
00:23 we learned how Joseph went to jail
00:25 with the baker and the butler.
00:27 See, I'm the baker.
00:30 Okay, so then where's the butler?
00:32 Oh, almost forgot.
00:35 Here you go. Hold on to this.
00:37 Okay. I'll put there.
00:39 There you go. Now go get me water.
00:43 Stay tuned to see what happens to Joseph
00:46 right here on Bible Gems.
00:49 Butler, I'm still waiting.
00:55 Cupcake?
01:21 I wonder where...
01:23 Have you seen Uncle Aaron anywhere?
01:26 Now have you guys seen Uncle Aaron?
01:28 Yes. We're looking for Uncle Aron.
01:29 You've seen him?
01:31 Yep. Have you guys seen Uncle Aaron?
01:33 Have you seen Uncle Aron?
01:34 You haven't seen Uncle Aron? Here.
01:36 I'm right here.
01:37 Oh, Uncle... What do you have?
01:39 Look what I found?
01:40 I found today a wonderful Bible gem.
01:44 Wow!
01:45 Wait a minute, let me invite the boys and girls
01:47 around the world, they want to hear it to.
01:48 Okay. Okay.
01:50 Welcome to Bible Gems,
01:51 and Uncle Aaron has just found a gem.
01:54 Can you read it to us?
01:56 Yes. Let me open it up here.
01:57 Here. You want to hold that? Here.
02:00 Today, we have a wonderful Bible gem.
02:03 It's a story that's found way back
02:05 in the book of Genesis.
02:07 Genesis?
02:08 Yeah, it's a story about a boy named Joseph.
02:12 Yeah. Joseph.
02:14 I know that story.
02:15 Well, before we get into it,
02:17 we're gonna sing our memory verse song.
02:19 So they're gonna sing about the gem.
02:21 Mm-hm. All right.
02:23 Well, girls can...
02:25 Jodi, can you lead us in that?
02:27 Yes, it'll be Genesis 50:20.
02:31 But as for you
02:34 You thought evil against me
02:37 But as for you You thought evil against me
02:43 But God meant it for good
02:48 To save many people
02:53 But God meant it for good
02:58 To save many people
03:04 Genesis 50:20
03:11 Uncle Aaron, is there any way you can tell us...
03:14 Would you guys like to hear Uncle Aaron tell a story?
03:17 Yeah! About Joseph?
03:20 Yes! Yes.
03:21 I love that story.
03:22 Okay, Uncle Aron, I'm excited.
03:24 Okay. All right, boys and girls.
03:26 Today, we're gonna dive right into the story of Joseph.
03:30 But before we go into Joseph being in Egypt,
03:33 I'm gonna remind you
03:35 about what happened before to Joseph.
03:37 Joseph was at home
03:39 living in Canaan with his family.
03:41 And he had... I can't quite remember
03:43 how many brothers did Joseph have?
03:44 Eleven.
03:46 He had 11 brothers. That's right.
03:47 He was the 12th brother.
03:49 And he was there,
03:51 but his brothers didn't like him very much
03:53 'cause they were envious of him,
03:54 they were jealous of him.
03:56 And so what they did was a shameful thing.
03:59 They sold him into slavery. Wow!
04:02 They sold him for 30 pieces of silver.
04:05 And there's poor Joseph
04:06 being taken away into a foreign nation,
04:10 a foreign land likely not even knowing the language.
04:13 And there was Joseph locked up.
04:15 Before he got locked up, he got sold to a man.
04:18 Who knows the name of that man?
04:21 All right,
04:22 let's say it all together if you know it.
04:24 Three, two, one. Potiphar.
04:25 Potiphar. That's right.
04:27 He was sold to Potiphar.
04:28 And in Potiphar's household,
04:30 he did all kinds of things for him.
04:34 Eventually, Potiphar recognized that,
04:37 "Wow, God is really with Joseph."
04:41 And so he gave him jurisdiction,
04:44 he allowed him to rule over his own household.
04:47 Well, Potiphar had a certain wife
04:51 who, unfortunately,
04:53 was trying to do some things with Joseph that weren't okay.
04:56 And so one day Potiphar's wife cornered Joseph
05:01 and tried to ask him to do something
05:03 that he knew was wrong to do.
05:05 And Joseph said to her, "I can't do that.
05:08 How can I sin against..." Who?
05:11 Who is he afraid to sin against?
05:12 God. God. That's right.
05:14 He said, "How can I sin against God?"
05:17 And he said, "I won't do that."
05:19 And was Potiphar's wife happy about that?
05:21 No. No.
05:22 Potiphar's wife said, "Oh, I can't believe it."
05:24 And as Joseph was trying to run away
05:26 Potiphar's wife grabbed his coat
05:28 and ripped off his coat, just as he got away from there.
05:32 And what Potiphar's wife did was she grabbed his coat.
05:36 And she went and she cried out and said,
05:38 "Ah!"
05:39 She said, "Oh, no.
05:42 Joseph tried to do all kinds of terrible things to me.
05:45 Oh, no." And she yelled out, and...
05:48 Was Joseph really doing those bad things?
05:50 No. No.
05:52 She was lying about it.
05:54 She was lying all about it.
05:56 And eventually Potiphar came home
05:58 and Potiphar's wife went and told him all these things.
06:01 "Oh, you know, Joseph was trying to do this
06:03 and hurt me and do all these things.
06:05 "And Potiphar, what did he have to do?
06:10 He had to throw him into prison.
06:12 Now at least he didn't die.
06:14 He threw him into the dungeon, threw him into the prison.
06:17 Ooh! Does that sound like a nice place you'd want to be?
06:19 No. No.
06:21 He threw him into that prison.
06:22 And there sat Joseph, all alone, being set up.
06:26 He was framed.
06:27 He never did that thing to begin with.
06:29 And as he was there, God...
06:31 Did God leave him? No.
06:33 No. God was still with him.
06:35 And as Joseph was in prison, he was still very helpful.
06:39 And the jail guard there recognized,
06:42 "Wow, Joseph is really helpful."
06:44 So he gave him responsibilities and duties.
06:46 And Joseph was well liked and respected there in prison.
06:50 Well, eventually, during Joseph's time in prison,
06:53 there came along two guys.
06:56 Who were these special guys that the Bible tells us?
07:00 Let's see. Let's give the mic to Gavin.
07:02 Who were these men?
07:04 The cupbearer and baker. That's right.
07:07 The cupbearer and the baker, right?
07:09 We could call it the butler and the baker,
07:12 the butler and the baker.
07:13 The baker made bread for Pharaoh.
07:16 And the butler served him his drink, his wine,
07:20 his whatever he wanted to drink.
07:22 But Pharaoh was angry at the butler and the baker.
07:25 And he said, "Man, you guys have offended me."
07:28 And so he threw him into prison, just like Joseph.
07:31 Now when these men were in prison,
07:33 they had dreams.
07:36 Who knows what kind of dreams they dreamt?
07:39 Let's see, Jackson.
07:41 One dream was the cupbearer's dream,
07:45 and he had the dream about
07:48 when he was squeezing wine into...
07:52 There was a wine
07:53 and he was squeezing wine into Pharaoh's cup.
07:56 The cups, yeah.
07:58 That's good.
07:59 Yes, that was one of the dreams that the butler had.
08:02 That's good. Who knows what the baker had?
08:04 What was that? Let's go with Nathan here.
08:07 The baker's dream was...
08:09 So he had a basket full of bread
08:12 and some birds came and took them away.
08:14 Oh!
08:15 How many baskets were on his head?
08:17 Seven.
08:18 I think there were three. That's right.
08:19 Three branches for the butler
08:22 and three baskets of bread on his head.
08:24 And they were confused.
08:25 They said, "Ah, I don't know what this dream is."
08:28 Anyone here ever had a dream?
08:29 You're like, "Whoa, that was weird.
08:30 I don't know what that means."
08:32 Yeah? Oh, yeah.
08:34 Sometimes we have these crazy dreams.
08:35 Well, they recognized
08:36 there is something special to it.
08:38 So they came to...
08:39 Joseph said, "Hey, tell me the dream.
08:40 And I can give you the interpretation
08:42 because I know a God who knows the interpretation."
08:45 And so there,
08:46 Joseph explained to the butler first,
08:50 and he said, "Oh, those,
08:52 the three branches represent three days,
08:55 and you will be restored after three days,
08:58 within three days
08:59 to be the butler for Pharaoh again."
09:02 Now do you think that made the butler happy?
09:04 Yes. Oh, yeah.
09:05 He said, "Yeah, I get to be back with Pharaoh
09:07 and do my job
09:08 and not be locked up in this prison."
09:10 And so after the baker heard
09:12 that that was a good interpretation.
09:13 He says, "Oh, okay.
09:15 Well, what's my interpretation?"
09:17 Unfortunately, Joseph had to share with him
09:19 the bad news
09:21 that after three days, he was actually gonna be...
09:25 He wasn't gonna make it.
09:27 He wasn't gonna be able to live anymore.
09:30 And guess what happened after three days?
09:31 He died.
09:33 He died, but the butler, the cupbearer,
09:36 the butler was restored back to Pharaoh.
09:38 And Joseph said, "When you go back to Pharaoh,
09:40 remember me."
09:41 But did the butler remember Joseph?
09:46 Not immediately, but some time went by.
09:49 And eventually, Pharaoh himself had a dream.
09:54 And during this dream,
09:55 he needed to understand the interpretation
09:57 but his magicians couldn't help it.
09:59 And what was this dream all about?
10:02 The cows and the wine.
10:04 Wow! The cows and the...
10:08 It was the corn stock.
10:09 Very close there.
10:11 There were some cows.
10:12 And how many cows were there?
10:14 Seven. There were seven.
10:15 That's exact... You guys are so sharp.
10:17 There were seven cows.
10:19 And there were seven stalks of corn there.
10:23 So the first dream he had,
10:25 there were seven cows that were really healthy
10:27 and really, you know, fat and good.
10:30 But then seven other cows came
10:32 and they were sickly and skinny and dying.
10:35 And those seven skinny cows came in, they ate,
10:38 they devoured the big cows.
10:40 Can you imagine seeing that in a dream?
10:42 Cows eating other... Whoa!
10:44 What does this mean?
10:45 And then you had the other,
10:48 the second dream where the corn stalks.
10:50 The first seven were really big
10:52 and the next seven were really skinny
10:53 and the same thing happened.
10:55 The skinny stalks of corn came and they ate
10:57 and devoured the seven big ones.
11:00 And Pharaoh said, "What does this mean?"
11:02 And Joseph came in and he explained
11:04 that this dream meant
11:05 that seven years will be plentiful in Egypt,
11:08 but then there will be seven years of famine.
11:11 And Pharaoh knew
11:12 that he needed someone smart and wise,
11:14 like Joseph to manage all the goods
11:17 and the food of Egypt.
11:19 And so Joseph was promoted to be second in command,
11:24 the only person above Joseph in all of Egypt was who?
11:27 Pharaoh. Pharaoh. That's right.
11:29 And as he was putting together
11:31 and collecting food for seven years,
11:33 guess what happened
11:34 after the seven years of plenty?
11:36 Famine.
11:37 Seven years of famine,
11:38 just like the interpretation said would happen.
11:42 And after though, during those seven years of famine,
11:45 Joseph's family and his brothers
11:47 back there in Canaan,
11:48 they thought, "Whoa, we heard that Egypt has lots of food,
11:52 we should go to Egypt and see
11:55 if we can get some food from there."
11:57 So there came, you know, Judah and Simeon, and Reuben,
12:00 and all of his brothers came except for Benjamin.
12:03 And when they came,
12:04 guess who recognized the brothers?
12:07 Joseph. Joseph did.
12:08 He said, "Whoa! These are my brothers."
12:11 And Joseph did a few different things
12:12 to test and see if they really changed.
12:15 That's exactly right to see if they'd repented,
12:17 to see if they had, you know, matured.
12:21 And along that testing process,
12:23 eventually he realized, "Wow, they truly have changed.
12:27 They truly, you know, do love their father,
12:30 and they do love my younger brother, Benjamin."
12:33 And so they're holding back tears.
12:35 Finally, he couldn't hold back tears anymore.
12:37 And he made himself known to his brothers.
12:40 He said, "Brothers, I'm Joseph."
12:42 Wow!
12:44 What a shock do you think that those brothers had?
12:46 They were like, "No way!"
12:48 You know what they did all together?
12:51 They all stood up. Let's all stand up together.
12:53 They stood up and with tears in their eyes,
12:56 they all had a big hug.
12:58 Let's go hug, a big hug.
12:59 Can we do that? Let's give me...
13:01 Oh, they hugged each other and said, "Oh, I love you.
13:04 And I miss you.
13:06 I'm so sorry for what I did for you."
13:07 He wanted to love people.
13:10 Yeah, this is more...
13:12 You know, maybe some of the Egyptians came along,
13:13 and they've joined in the hug too,
13:14 maybe they were crying as well.
13:16 I think that's the case.
13:17 I think they did.
13:19 Yeah.
13:20 Well, I tell you, boys and girls,
13:22 it is about time for us to go.
13:24 But I want you all to remember to search the scriptures
13:29 that you can find your hidden gems there.
13:34 And that's all the time we have for Bible Gems.
13:37 We'll see you next time. Can we say goodbye?
13:39 Bye.
