00:04 >> Friends, we often introduce
00:06 you to people whose lives have
00:08 been touched by the hand of
00:10 God and we hope their stories
00:12 inspire you to trust the Lord,
00:15 too, because He does not play
00:17 favourites, He is your
00:20 heavenly Father, too.
00:21 >> There is only one
00:22 requirement and that is the
00:24 realization of your great need
00:27 and that He is a great
00:28 Saviour.
00:30 It's your financial need,
00:31 your spiritual need,
00:32 your emotional need,
00:34 even your physical and
00:35 relationship needs,
00:37 they all capture God's heart.
00:40 [René] The truth is that
00:41 nothing is too broken for Him

00:45 He is God and He upholds the
00:48 planets and moons and stars.

01:04 sorrows and even the utterance

01:09 of infinite love.

01:12 experience too dark for Him to

01:19 He is our heavenly Father

01:30 into the remarkable chapters

02:48 >> Thank you for having me
02:49 here, it's a pleasure.
02:51 >> Yeah, and you wrote a book
02:52 and that's what we're gonna
02:53 really be talking about, it's
02:54 called, I Am "Finish" and
02:56 we're gonna talk about the
02:57 title in a minute.
02:58 So writing a book is hard
03:00 work, what inspired you to
03:02 pick it up and say, "Hey, I'm"
03:04 "gonna write that?"
03:05 >> Well, actually, Pastor
03:06 Mike, I didn't plan to write a
03:07 book, but five years ago I was
03:10 on my way to a conference in
03:12 Vancouver and I brought a book
03:14 with my by Pastor George
03:16 Vandeman, but I finished that
03:18 book and I still had plenty of
03:20 time left, I didn't wanna read
03:21 anymore and the airline I was
03:23 flying in did not offer free
03:25 movies or TV so I thought
03:26 maybe I should use my time
03:28 wisely and so I started

03:33 I'd be able to write something
03:34 for my daughters just to leave
03:36 them something to help them
03:38 appreciate the life that they
03:39 had here in Canada.
03:40 And the following morning I
03:41 was doing my devotional and I
03:43 was listening to Pastor John
03:45 Bradshaw and he talked about
03:48 writing memorials and he said
03:50 that, you know, he encouraged

03:55 write something about their
03:57 past, remember the goodness of
03:58 the Lord because he said as

04:01 future, it will give them
04:02 confidence, that the same God
04:04 that was faithful to them in
04:05 the past will be faithful to
04:07 them in the future.

04:29 So my name's Finnie, derived
04:31 from the word, "finish."
04:33 Well, to tell you a little bit
04:34 about the background, so my
04:36 parents originally had four
04:37 children, two older girls and
04:39 two younger boys, but an
04:41 accident, a tragic accident
04:43 happened, my brother who was
04:45 about two years old then, was
04:47 struck by a vehicle and it was
04:49 very hard for my parents,

04:54 have another child, another
04:56 son, and in the process, they

21:51 and UK.
21:53 I was also invited to have a
21:56 Q&A session at my workplace
21:58 where about 30 of my colleagues
22:00 attended and I was able to
22:02 read excerpts from the book and
22:04 to testify about God's
22:05 goodness and faithfulness.
22:07 And the other thing was we
22:09 were able to raise funds to
22:10 donate to our favourite
22:13 charities and ministries.
22:16 People that were able to get
22:18 copies of the book, they
22:19 donated and so we were able to
22:21 give that in return.
22:23 [René] Wow!
22:24 [Mike] That's wonderful!
22:24 And so you take your book, you
22:26 give it to someone, you can
22:27 have a conversation and tell
22:28 them all about your life and
22:30 you're not even there.
22:31 >> Mm-hmm, exactly.
22:31 >> So you're sharing your
22:32 story with so many other
22:34 people, I know you shared it
22:35 with your neighbours as well.
22:37 Are you thinking about writing
22:39 another book?
22:39 (laughs)
22:41 >> So some of my friends, our
22:43 friends that have read the
22:44 book, they said,
22:46 "Where's part 2?"
22:48 And so they asked because the
22:49 first book finished when we
22:51 moved here in Oshawa and we've
22:53 lived here 15 years, so...
22:55 Yeah, so I've taken the
22:57 opportunity of the Christmas
22:59 break and the lockdown and
23:01 I've started writing and so I
23:03 have a draft, by God's grace,
23:05 if He opens an opportunity to
23:07 publish that as well.
23:09 So it's a story about the life
23:10 that we had here in Oshawa,
23:12 the joys, the failures, the
23:14 successes, the victories, the
23:16 lessons learned, so hopefully
23:18 we'll see something like that
23:20 in the future.
23:21 >> You know what's so amazing
23:23 about writing your story or
23:25 talking about your story, is
23:27 that it's your story and how
23:30 God has blessed you and led
23:32 you so no one can argue with
23:35 that, right, when you write
23:37 something about your story.
23:38 >> So if you're trying to
23:39 share your faith with someone
23:41 and you do it in the form of a
23:42 book about your life then of
23:44 course you have permission to
23:46 do that and people will accept
23:48 that more easily.
23:49 >> For sure, yeah, it's
23:51 interesting because one of the
23:52 neighbours that we gave a copy
23:54 of the book to, Arlene has
23:56 been sharing books to her in
23:58 the past, religious books, and
23:59 she kept saying, "Yeah, that"
24:01 "will be the next book that"
24:02 "I would read."
24:03 But when we gave this to her,
24:04 we ran into her about a couple
24:06 of weeks after and she said,
24:07 "I've been wanting to run"
24:09 "into you because," she says,
24:11 "I read the book today,"
24:12 "actually I finished it."
24:13 And she was really glad that
24:15 she received a copy from us.
24:17 [René] That's so wonderful.
24:18 [Mike] God really blessed and
24:20 made you a part of a community
24:22 here in Canada and you were
24:24 able to share within your
24:26 community.
24:27 That's so important, yeah.
24:29 >> So, Finnie, I wonder if I
24:31 can ask you to please pray for
24:33 us before we finish today,
24:35 so...
24:36 >> For sure, let's pray.
24:39 Our gracious loving Father,
24:41 Lord, we thank You for Your
24:42 faithfulness.
24:44 I've seen it in our lives and
24:46 I thank You, Lord, that You've
24:48 given us this opportunity
24:49 to talk.
24:51 Father, I pray that You will
24:53 continue to bless the ministry
24:54 of It Is Written, I pray for
24:56 Pastor Mike and René and the
24:58 rest of the team, Lord, as
25:00 they continue to endeavour to
25:03 reach the world through
25:05 messages of hope and to
25:08 deliver the message of Your
25:10 goodness and Your
25:11 faithfulness.
25:11 Father, I pray for some of the
25:14 people that may have just
25:15 recently migrated to Canada.
25:17 I know how it was like.
25:19 They may be facing some
25:21 challenges, Lord, but I wanna
25:22 assure them that our God is
25:24 faithful, that He will never
25:25 leave them nor forsake them,
25:28 so I thank You, Father, for
25:29 this opportunity,
25:31 in Jesus' name, amen.
25:33 [Mike & René] Amen!
25:35 >> Thank you so much, Finnie,
25:37 again for joining us on It Is
25:38 Written Canada.
25:40 >> Thank you, it's a joy.
25:43 >> Friends, through listening
25:45 to Finnie's story, I hope that
25:47 you were inspired by God's
25:49 guidance and God's
25:51 intervention and God's
25:52 faithfulness in his life.
