00:15 Hello and welcome back to "His Words Are Life."
00:17 I'm Kelly Mowrer, and today we are reading
00:19 from the Book of Zephaniah,
00:21 but let's pray together before we start.
00:24 Dear Heavenly Father, thank you so much
00:26 for this opportunity to hear again
00:29 of how much You long
00:30 to have us be holy and completely Yours.
00:34 And that You offer mercy to us when we transgress.
00:37 We ask Your forgiveness and Your grace
00:40 and we ask that You be with us now as we read.
00:43 In the name of Jesus, amen.
00:46 Reading in Zephaniah Chapter 1,
00:49 picking up with verse 9,
00:51 and this is the King James Version.
00:54 "In the same day also will I punish all those
00:56 that leap on the threshold,
00:58 which fill their masters' houses
01:01 with violence and deceit.
01:04 And it shall come to pass in that day,
01:06 saith the Lord,
01:07 that there shall be the noise of a cry
01:09 from the fish gate,
01:11 and an howling from the second,
01:13 and a great crashing from the hills.
01:15 Howl, ye inhabitants of Maktesh,
01:17 for all the merchant people are cut down,
01:21 all they that bear silver are cut off.
01:24 And it shall come to pass at that time,
01:27 that I will search Jerusalem with candles,
01:29 and punish the men that are settled on their lees,
01:33 that say in their heart, the Lord will not do good,
01:37 neither will he do evil.
01:40 Therefore their goods shall become a booty,
01:43 and their houses a desolation,
01:46 they shall also build houses, but not inhabit them,
01:49 and they shall plant vineyards,
01:51 but not drink the wine thereof.
01:54 The great day of the Lord is near, it is near,
01:58 and hasteth greatly,
01:59 even the voice of the day of the Lord,
02:02 the mighty man shall cry there bitterly.
02:06 That day is a day of wrath,
02:08 a day of trouble and distress,
02:10 a day of wasteness and desolation,
02:14 a day of darkness and gloominess,
02:16 a day of clouds and thick darkness.
02:19 A day of the trumpet and alarm against the fenced cities,
02:23 and against the high towers.
02:26 And I will bring distress upon men,
02:29 that they shall walk like blind men,
02:31 because they have sinned against the Lord,
02:35 and their blood shall be poured out as dust,
02:38 and their flesh as the dung.
02:40 Neither their silver nor their gold
02:43 shall be able to deliver them
02:45 in the day of the Lord's wrath,
02:48 but the whole land shall be devoured
02:50 by the fire of his jealousy,
02:52 for he shall make even a speedy riddance of all them
02:56 that dwell in the land."
02:59 Continuing with Zephaniah Chapter 2,
03:03 and this is the King James Version.
03:06 "Gather yourselves together, yea, gather together,
03:10 O nation not desired, Before the decree bring forth,
03:15 before the day pass as the chaff,
03:17 before the fierce anger of the Lord come upon you,
03:20 before the day of the Lord's anger come upon you.
03:24 Seek ye the Lord, all ye meek of the earth,
03:28 which have wrought his judgment,
03:29 seek righteousness, seek meekness,
03:33 it may be ye shall be hid
03:35 in the day of the Lord's anger.
03:38 For Gaza shall be forsaken, and Ashkelon a desolation,
03:43 they shall drive out Ashdod at the noon day,
03:45 and Ekron shall be rooted up.
03:48 Woe unto the inhabitants of the sea coast,
03:51 the nation of the Cherethites.
03:53 The word of the Lord is against you,
03:56 O Canaan, the land of the Philistines,
03:58 I will even destroy thee,
03:59 that there shall be no inhabitant.
04:02 And the sea coast shall be dwellings
04:05 and cottages for shepherds, and folds for flocks.
04:09 And the coast shall be for the remnant
04:11 of the house of Judah, they shall feed thereupon,
04:15 in the houses of Ashkelon
04:16 shall they lie down in the evening,
04:18 for the Lord their God shall visit them,
04:21 and turn away their captivity.
04:24 I have heard the reproach of Moab,
04:27 and the revilings of the children of Ammon,
04:29 whereby they have reproached my people,
04:31 and magnified themselves against their border.
04:35 Therefore as I live, saith the Lord of hosts,
04:38 the God of Israel, surely Moab shall be as Sodom,
04:42 and the children of Ammon as Gomorrah,
04:45 even the breeding of nettles, and saltpits,
04:47 and a perpetual desolation,
04:50 the residue of my people shall spoil them,
04:52 and the remnant of my people shall possess them.
04:55 This shall they have for their pride,
04:59 because they have reproached and magnified themselves
05:02 against the people of the Lord of hosts.
05:06 The Lord will be terrible unto them,
05:08 for he will famish all the gods of the earth,
05:11 and men shall worship him, every one from his place,
05:14 even all the isles of the heathen.
05:17 Ye Ethiopians also, ye shall be slain by my sword.
05:19 And he will stretch out his hand against the north,
05:22 and destroy Assyria,
05:24 and will make Nineveh a desolation,
05:26 and dry like a wilderness.
05:28 And flocks shall lie down in the midst of her,
05:30 all the beasts of the nations,
05:32 both the cormorant and the bittern
05:34 shall lodge in the upper lintels of it,
05:37 their voice shall sing in the windows,
05:39 desolation shall be in the thresholds,
05:43 for he shall uncover the cedar work.
05:46 This is the rejoicing city that dwelt carelessly,
05:50 that said in her heart, I am, and there is none beside me,
05:56 how is she become a desolation,
05:59 a place for beasts to lie down in.
06:02 Every one that passeth by her shall hiss,
06:05 and wag his hand."
06:08 Continuing in Zephaniah Chapter 3,
06:11 and this is the King James Version.
06:14 "Woe to her that is filthy
06:16 and polluted, to the oppressing city.
06:20 She obeyed not the voice, she received not correction,
06:25 she trusted not in the Lord,
06:27 she drew not near to her God.
06:31 Her princes within her are roaring lions,
06:34 her judges are evening wolves,
06:37 they gnaw not the bones till the morrow.
06:40 Her prophets are light and treacherous persons,
06:43 her priests have polluted the sanctuary,
06:45 they have done violence to the law.
06:48 The just Lord is in the midst thereof,
06:51 he will not do iniquity,
06:54 every morning doth he bring his judgment to light,
06:57 he faileth not, but the unjust knoweth no shame.
07:02 I have cut off the nations, their towers are desolate,
07:05 I made their streets waste, that none passeth by,
07:08 their cities are destroyed, so that there is no man,
07:11 that there is none inhabitant.
07:13 I said, surely thou wilt fear me,
07:15 thou wilt receive instruction,
07:17 so their dwelling should not be cut off,
07:18 howsoever I punished them, but they rose early,
07:22 and corrupted all their doings.
07:25 Therefore wait ye upon me, saith the Lord,
07:29 until the day that I rise up to the prey,
07:32 for my determination is to gather the nations,
07:34 that I may assemble the kingdoms,
07:37 to pour upon them mine indignation,
07:40 even all my fierce anger, for all the earth
07:42 shall be devoured with the fire of my jealousy.
07:46 For then will I turn to the people a pure language,
07:49 that they may all call upon the name of the Lord,
07:52 to serve him with one consent.
07:56 From beyond the rivers of Ethiopia my suppliants,
07:59 even the daughter of my dispersed,
08:01 shall bring mine offering.
08:04 In that day shalt thou not be ashamed for all thy doings,
08:08 wherein thou hast transgressed against me,
08:10 for then I will take away out of the midst of thee
08:13 them that rejoice in thy pride,
08:16 and thou shalt no more be haughty
08:18 because of my holy mountain.
08:21 I will also leave in the midst of thee
08:23 an afflicted and poor people,
08:25 and they shall trust in the name of the Lord.
08:28 The remnant of Israel shall not do iniquity,
08:31 nor speak lies, neither shall a deceitful
08:34 tongue be found in their mouth,
08:36 for they shall feed and lie down,
08:39 and none shall make them afraid.
08:41 Sing, O daughter of Zion, shout,
08:44 O Israel, be glad and rejoice with all the heart,
08:48 O daughter of Jerusalem.
08:50 The Lord hath taken away thy judgments,
08:53 he hath cast out thine enemy, the king of Israel,
08:56 even the Lord, is in the midst of thee,
08:58 thou shalt not see evil any more.
09:02 In that day it shall be said to Jerusalem,
09:05 fear thou not, and to Zion, let not thine hands be slack.
09:10 The Lord thy God in the midst of thee is mighty,
09:14 he will save, he will rejoice over thee with joy,
09:19 he will rest in his love,
09:21 he will joy over thee with singing.
09:25 I will gather them that are sorrowful
09:28 for the solemn assembly, who are of thee,
09:31 to whom the reproach of it was a burden.
09:34 Behold, at that time I will undo all that afflict thee,
09:39 and I will save her that halteth,
09:42 and gather her that was driven out,
09:45 and I will get them praise and fame in every land
09:48 where they have been put to shame.
09:51 At that time will I bring you again,
09:54 even in the time that I gather you,
09:57 for I will make you a name and a praise
10:00 among all people of the earth,
10:02 when I turn back your captivity
10:04 before your eyes, saith the Lord."
10:09 Continuing with the Book of Haggai Chapter 1,
10:12 this is the King James Version.
10:16 "In the second year of Darius the king,
10:19 in the sixth month, in the first day of the month,
10:22 came the word of the Lord by Haggai the prophet
10:26 unto Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel,
10:29 governor of Judah,
10:30 and to Joshua the son of Josedech,
10:33 the high priest, saying,
10:36 Thus speaketh the Lord of hosts, saying,
10:39 this people say, The time is not come,
10:41 the time that the Lord's house should be built.
10:45 Then came the word of the Lord by Haggai the prophet,
10:47 saying, Is it time for you,
10:50 O ye, to dwell in your cieled houses,
10:54 and this house lie waste?
10:58 Now therefore thus saith the Lord of hosts,
11:00 consider your ways.
11:02 Ye have sown much, and bring in little,
11:06 ye eat, but ye have not enough,
11:09 ye drink, but ye are not filled with drink,
11:11 ye clothe you, but there is none warm,
11:15 and he that earneth wages earneth wages
11:17 to put it into a bag with holes.
11:21 Thus saith the Lord of hosts, consider your ways.
11:24 Go up to the mountain, and bring wood,
11:27 and build the house,
11:29 and I will take pleasure in it,
11:31 and I will be glorified, saith the Lord.
11:35 Ye looked for much, and, lo it came to little,
11:39 and when ye brought it home, I did blow upon it.
11:42 Why? saith the Lord of hosts.
11:45 Because of mine house that is waste,
11:48 and ye run every man unto his own house.
11:51 Therefore the heaven over you is stayed from dew,
11:55 and the earth is stayed from her fruit.
11:58 And I called for a drought upon the land,
12:00 and upon the mountains, and upon the corn,
12:02 and upon the new wine, and upon the oil,
12:04 and upon that which the ground bringeth forth,
12:06 and upon men, and upon cattle,
12:07 and upon all the labour of the hands.
12:11 Then Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel,
12:14 and Joshua the son of Josedech, the high priest,
12:18 with all the remnant of the people,
12:20 obeyed the voice of the Lord their God,
12:22 and the words of Haggai the prophet,
12:25 as the Lord their God had sent him,
12:27 and the people did fear before the Lord.
12:32 Then spake Haggai the Lord's messenger
12:34 in the Lord's message unto the people,
12:35 saying, I am with you, saith the Lord.
12:39 And the Lord stirred up
12:40 the spirit of Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel,
12:43 governor of Judah,
12:44 and the spirit of Joshua the son of Josedech,
12:47 the high priest,
12:48 and the spirit of all the remnant of the people,
12:50 and they came and did work
12:53 in the house of the Lord of hosts, their God.
12:57 In the four and twentieth day of the sixth month,
13:00 in the second year of Darius the king."
13:04 Continuing with Haggai Chapter 2,
13:07 this is the King James Version.
13:09 "In the seventh month,
13:11 in the one and twentieth day of the month,
13:14 came the word of the Lord by the prophet Haggai, saying,
13:17 speak now to Zerubbabel
13:19 the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah,
13:21 and to Joshua the son of Josedech, the high priest,
13:25 and to the residue of the people, saying,
13:28 who is left among you that saw this house in her first glory?
13:33 and how do ye see it now?
13:35 is it not in your eyes in comparison of it as nothing?
13:41 Yet now be strong, O Zerubbabel,
13:43 saith the Lord, and be strong, O Joshua,
13:46 son of Josedech, the high priest,
13:48 and be strong, all ye people of the land,
13:51 saith the Lord, and work, for I am with you,
13:55 saith the Lord of hosts.
13:57 According to the word that I covenanted with you
13:59 when ye came out of Egypt,
14:01 so my spirit remaineth among you, fear ye not.
14:06 For thus saith the Lord of hosts,
14:07 Yet once, it is a little while,
14:10 and I will shake the heavens, and the earth, and the sea,
14:14 and the dry land, And I will shake all nations,
14:17 and the desire of all nations shall come,
14:20 and I will fill this house with glory,
14:23 saith the Lord of hosts.
14:25 The silver is mine, and the gold is mine,
14:28 saith the Lord of hosts.
14:30 The glory of this latter house
14:32 shall be greater than of the former,
14:34 saith the Lord of hosts,
14:36 and in this place will I give peace,
14:39 saith the Lord of hosts."
