00:15 Hello and welcome to "His Words Are Life. "
00:17 I'm Kelly Mowrer, and today we'll be 00:19 reading together from the Book of Hosea. 00:22 But let's pray before we start. 00:24 Dear heavenly Father, thank you again 00:27 for how you have kept each of us for yourself. 00:32 And how you come and changed our lives. 00:35 Please be with us. Now as we hear these words 00:37 and change as even more to be more like you. 00:40 We love you and thank you for loving us. Amen. 00:44 We're reading in the book of Hosea, 00:46 Chapter 2 picking up with verse 16. 00:48 And this is King James Version. 00:52 And it shall be at that day, saith the Lord, 00:55 that thou shalt call me Ishi. 00:58 And shalt call me no more Baali. 01:05 For I will take away the names of Baalim out of her mouth, 01:06 and they shall no more be remembered by their name. 01:08 And in that day will I make a covenant for them 01:11 with the beasts of the field and with the fowls of heaven, 01:15 and with the creeping things of the ground, 01:16 and I will break the bow and the sword 01:18 and the battle out of the earth, 01:20 and will make them to lie down safely. 01:23 And I will betroth thee unto me for ever. 01:26 Yea, I will betroth thee unto me in righteousness, 01:30 and in judgment, and in lovingkindness, 01:33 and in mercies. I will even betroth thee 01:37 unto me in faithfulness. And thou shalt know the Lord. 01:42 And it shall come to pass in that day, 01:44 I will hear, saith the Lord, I will hear the heavens, 01:47 and they shall hear the earth. 01:49 And the earth shall hear the corn, 01:51 and the wine, and the oil. And they shall hear Jezreel. 01:55 And I will sow her unto me in the earth, 01:58 and I will have mercy upon her that had not obtained mercy, 02:03 and I will say to them which were not my people, 02:06 Thou art my people, and they shall say, 02:09 Thou art my God. Reading now in Hosea Chapter 3. 02:14 And this is the King James Version 02:17 Then said the Lord unto me, Go yet, 02:21 love a woman beloved of her friend, 02:23 yet an adulteress, according to the love 02:26 of the Lord toward the children of Israel, 02:28 who look to other gods, and love flagons of wine. 02:33 So I bought her to me for fifteen pieces of silver, 02:37 and for an homer of barley, and an half homer of barley. 02:41 And I said unto her, 02:42 hou shalt abide for me many days, 02:44 thou shalt not play the harlot, 02:46 and thou shalt not be for another man. 02:49 So will I also be for thee. 02:52 For the children of Israel shall abide 02:53 many days without a king, and without a prince, 02:55 and without a sacrifice, and without an image, 02:57 and without an ephod, and without teraphim. 03:00 Afterward shall the children of Israel return, 03:03 and seek the Lord their God, and David their king, 03:08 and shall fear the Lord 03:09 and his goodness in the latter days. 03:11 Continuing with Hosea Chapter 4. 03:14 Hear the word of the Lord, ye children of Israel, for 03:17 the Lord hath a controversy with the inhabitants 03:19 of the land, because there is no truth, 03:21 nor mercy, nor knowledge of God in the land. 03:25 By swearing, and lying, and killing, and stealing 03:29 and committing adultery, they break out, 03:32 and blood toucheth blood. 03:35 Therefore shall the land mourn, 03:37 and every one that dwelleth therein shall languish, 03:40 with the beasts of the field, and with the fowls of heaven. 03:43 Yea, the fishes of the sea also shall be taken away. 03:48 Yet let no man strive, nor reprove another, 03:52 for thy people are as they that strive with the priest. 03:56 Therefore shalt thou fall in the day, 03:58 and the prophet also shall fall with thee in the night, 04:00 and I will destroy thy mother. 04:02 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. 04:08 Because thou hast rejected knowledge, 04:09 I will also reject thee, 04:10 that thou shalt be no priest to me, 04:13 seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, 04:16 I will also forget thy children. 04:19 As they were increased, so they sinned against me. 04:22 Therefore will I change their glory into shame. 04:26 They eat up the sin of my people, 04:28 and they set their heart on their iniquity. 04:31 And there shall be, like people, like priest, 04:33 and I will punish them for their ways, 04:35 and reward them their doings. 04:37 For they shall eat, and not have enough, 04:39 they shall commit whoredom, and shall not increase. 04:43 Because they have left off to take heed to the Lord. 04:46 Whoredom and wine and new wine take away the heart. 04:51 My people ask counsel at their stocks, 04:53 and their staff declareth unto them, 04:56 for the spirit of whoredoms hath caused them to err, 04:58 and they have gone a whoring from under their God. 05:01 They sacrifice upon the tops of the mountains, 05:04 and burn incense upon the hills, 05:07 under oaks and poplars and elms, 05:10 because the shadow thereof is good. 05:12 Therefore your daughters shall commit whoredom, 05:14 and your spouses shall commit adultery. 05:17 I will not punish your daughters when they commit whoredom, 05:19 nor your spouses when they commit adultery, 05:21 for themselves are separated with whores, 05:23 and they sacrifice with harlots. 05:25 Therefore the people that doth not understand shall fall. 05:30 Though thou, Israel, play the harlot, 05:33 yet let not Judah offend. And come not ye unto Gilgal, 05:38 neither go ye up to Bethaven, nor swear, The Lord liveth. 05:42 For Israel slideth back as a backsliding heifer, 05:47 now the Lord will feed them as a lamb in a large place. 05:52 Ephraim is joined to idols, let him alone. 05:56 Their drink is sour, 05:57 they have committed whoredom continually. 05:59 Her rulers with shame do love, Give ye. 06:03 The wind hath bound her up in her wings, 06:07 and they shall be ashamed because of their sacrifices. 06:11 Continuing in Hosea Chapter 5. 06:13 And this is the King James Version. 06:16 Hear ye this, O priests, and hearken, 06:19 ye house of Israel, and give ye ear, 06:21 O house of the king, for judgment is toward you, 06:25 because ye have been a snare on Mizpah, 06:27 and a net spread upon Tabor. 06:30 And the revolters are profound to make slaughter, 06:34 though I have been a rebuker of them all. 06:37 I know Ephraim, and Israel is not hid from me. 06:41 For now, O Ephraim, thou committest whoredom, 06:43 and Israel is defiled. 06:45 They will not frame their doings to turn unto their God, 06:49 for the spirit of whoredoms is in the midst of them, 06:51 and they have not known the Lord. 06:54 And the pride of Israel doth testify to his face. 06:57 Therefore shall Israel 06:59 and Ephraim fall in their iniquity. 07:02 Judah also shall fall with them. 07:05 They shall go with their flocks 07:06 and with their herds to seek the Lord. 07:09 But they shall not find him. 07:11 He hath withdrawn himself from them. 07:14 They have dealt treacherously against the Lord. 07:18 For they have begotten strange children. 07:22 Now shall a month devour them with their portions. 07:26 Blow ye the cornet in Gibeah, and the trumpet in Ramah. 07:30 Cry aloud at Bethaven, after thee, O Benjamin. 07:33 Ephraim shall be desolate in the day of rebuke. 07:36 Among the tribes of Israel 07:37 have I made known that which shall surely be. 07:41 The princes of Judah were like them that remove the bound. 07:45 Therefore I will pour out my wrath upon them like water. 07:49 Ephraim is oppressed and broken in judgment, 07:52 because he willingly walked after the commandment. 07:55 Therefore will I be unto Ephraim as a moth, 07:57 and to the house of Judah as rottenness. 08:00 When Ephraim saw his sickness, and Judah saw his wound, 08:04 then went Ephraim to the Assyrian, 08:07 and sent to king Jareb. Yet could he not heal you, 08:10 nor cure you of your wound. 08:13 For I will be unto Ephraim as a lion, 08:16 and as a young lion to the house of Judah, 08:18 I, even I, will tear and go away, 08:21 I will take away, and none shall rescue him. 08:25 I will go and return to my place, 08:27 till they acknowledge their offence, 08:29 and seek my face, in their affliction 08:33 they will seek me early. 08:36 Reading in Hosea Chapter 6. 08:37 This is the King James Version. 08:40 Come, and let us return unto the Lord, 08:43 for he hath torn, and he will heal us. 08:46 He hath smitten, and he will bind us up. 08:50 After two days will he revive us, 08:52 in the third day he will raise us up, 08:54 and we shall live in his sight. 08:56 Then shall we know, 08:57 if we follow on to know the Lord, 09:00 his going forth is prepared as the morning, 09:03 and he shall come unto us as the rain, 09:05 as the latter and former rain unto the earth. 09:09 O Ephraim, what shall I do unto thee? 09:13 O Judah, what shall I do unto thee? 09:15 For your goodness is as a morning cloud, 09:18 and as the early dew it goeth away. 09:21 Therefore have I hewed them by the prophets. 09:24 I have slain them by the words of my mouth, 09:27 and thy judgments are as the light that goeth forth. 09:30 For I desired mercy, and not sacrifice, 09:35 and the knowledge of God more than burnt offerings. 09:39 But they like men have transgressed the covenant. 09:43 There have they dealt treacherously against me. 09:45 Gilead is a city of them that work iniquity, 09:48 and is polluted with blood. 09:50 And as troops of robbers wait for a man, 09:53 so the company of priests murder in the way by consent, 09:57 for they commit lewdness. 09:59 I have seen an horrible thing in the house of Israel 10:02 There is the whoredom of Ephraim, Israel is defiled. 10:06 Also, O Judah, he hath set an harvest for thee, 10:11 when I returned the captivity of my people. 10:15 Reading in Hosea Chapter 7. 10:16 And this is the King James Version. 10:20 When I would have healed Israel, 10:22 then the iniquity of Ephraim was discovered, 10:24 and the wickedness of Samaria, for they commit falsehood. 10:28 And the thief cometh in, 10:30 and the troop of robber spoileth without. 10:33 And they consider not in their hearts 10:36 that I remember all their wickedness. 10:39 Now their own doings have beset them about, 10:42 they are before my face. 10:44 They make the king glad with their wickedness, 10:47 and the princes with their lies. 10:49 They are all adulterers, 10:50 as an oven heated by the baker, 10:53 who ceaseth from raising after he hath 10:56 kneaded the dough, until it be leavened. 10:59 In the day of our king the princes have made him sick 11:02 with bottles of wine. 11:03 He stretched out his hand with scorners. 11:06 For they have made ready their heart like an oven, 11:09 whiles they lie in wait. Their baker sleepeth all the night, 11:13 in the morning it burneth as a flaming fire. 11:16 They are all hot as an oven, 11:18 and have devoured their judges, 11:20 all their kings are fallen. 11:22 There is none among them that calleth unto me. 11:26 Ephraim, he hath mixed himself among the people. 11:29 Ephraim is a cake not turned. 11:33 Strangers have devoured his strength, 11:34 and he knoweth it not. Yea, gray hairs are here 11:38 and there upon him, yet he knoweth not. 11:42 And the pride of Israel testifieth to his face. 11:45 And they do not return to the Lord their God, 11:48 nor seek him for all this. 11:51 Ephraim also is like a silly dove without heart. 11:55 They call to Egypt, they go to Assyria. 11:57 When they shall go, 11:58 I will spread my net upon them. 12:00 I will bring them down as the fowls of the heaven. 12:02 I will chastise them, as their congregation hath heard. 12:06 Woe unto them. For they have fled from me. 12:10 Destruction unto them! because they have transgressed 12:13 against me. Though I have redeemed them, 12:15 yet they have spoken lies against me. 12:18 And they have not cried unto me with their heart, 12:21 when they howled upon their beds. 12:24 They assemble themselves for corn and wine, 12:26 and they rebel against me. 12:28 Though I have bound and strengthened their arms, 12:32 yet do they imagine mischief against me. 12:36 They return, but not to the most High. 12:39 They are like a deceitful bow. Their princes shall fall 12:42 by the sword for the rage of their tongue. 12:45 This shall be their derision in the land of Egypt. 12:50 Continuing in Hosea Chapter 8. 12:52 And this is the James Version. 12:55 Set the trumpet to thy mouth. He shall come as an eagle 12:59 against the house of the Lord, because they have 13:01 transgressed my covenant, and trespassed against my law. 13:06 Israel shall cry unto me, My God, we know thee. 13:10 Israel hath cast off the thing that is good. 13:13 The enemy shall pursue him. 13:16 They have set up kings, but not by me. 13:20 They have made princes, and I knew it not. 13:23 Of their silver and their gold have they made them idols, 13:28 that they may be cut off. 13:30 Thy calf, O Samaria, hath cast thee off, 13:33 mine anger is kindled against them. 13:35 How long will it be ere they attain to innocency? 13:39 For from Israel was it also. The workman made it. 13:43 Therefore it is not God, 13:45 but the calf of Samaria shall be broken in pieces. 13:49 For they have sown the wind, 13:52 and they shall reap the whirlwind. It hath no stalk. 13:56 The bud shall yield no meal. If so be it yield, 14:00 the strangers shall swallow it up. 14:03 Israel is swallowed up. 14:05 Now shall they be among the Gentiles 14:07 as a vessel wherein is no pleasure. 14:10 For they are gone up to Assyria, 14:12 a wild ass alone by himself, Ephraim hath hired lovers. 14:17 Yea, though they have hired among the nations, 14:20 now will I gather them, and they shall sorrow a little 14:24 for the burden of the king of princes. 14:27 Because Ephraim hath made many altars to sin, 14:31 altars shall be unto him to sin. 14:34 I have written to him the great things of my law, 14:37 but they were counted as a strange thing. |
