00:15 Hello and welcome to "His Words Are Life."
00:17 I am Kelly Mowrer and today we are going
00:19 to read together from the book of Jeremiah.
00:21 But let's pray before we begin.
00:24 Dear Heavenly Father,
00:26 we thank you for an opportunity
00:28 to hear Your words which strengthen our feet
00:31 and give us courage and nourish our souls
00:35 and feed our longings.
00:37 Please be with us now as we hear them.
00:39 We love You so much
00:40 and thank you for loving us, amen.
00:43 Reading in the Book of Jeremiah, Chapter 33
00:47 and this is the King James Version.
00:50 Moreover the word of the Lord
00:51 came unto Jeremiah the second time,
00:53 while he was yet shut up
00:55 in the court of the prison, saying,
00:57 Thus saith the Lord the maker thereof,
01:00 the Lord that formed it, to establish it,
01:02 the Lord is his name, Call unto me,
01:06 and I will answer thee, and show thee great
01:08 and mighty things, which thou knowest not.
01:12 For thus saith the Lord, the God of Israel,
01:14 concerning the houses of this city,
01:16 and concerning the houses of the kings of Judah,
01:19 which are thrown down by the mounts,
01:21 and by the sword, they come to fight with the Chaldeans,
01:25 but it is to fill them with the dead bodies of men,
01:28 whom I have slain in mine anger and in my fury,
01:31 and for all whose wickedness
01:32 I have hid my face from this city.
01:34 Behold, I will bring it health and cure,
01:38 and I will cure them, and will reveal unto them
01:41 the abundance of peace and truth.
01:45 And I will cause the captivity of Judah
01:47 and the captivity of Israel to return,
01:50 and will build them, as at the first.
01:53 And I will cleanse them from all their iniquity,
01:56 whereby they have sinned against me,
01:58 and I will pardon all their iniquities,
02:01 whereby they have sinned,
02:02 and whereby they have transgressed against me.
02:05 And it shall be to me a name of joy, a praise
02:09 and an honour before all the nations of the earth,
02:12 which shall hear all the good that I do unto them,
02:15 and they shall fear and tremble
02:17 for all the goodness and for all the prosperity
02:20 that I procure unto it.
02:22 Thus saith the lord,
02:24 Again there shall be heard in this place,
02:26 which ye say shall be desolate without man
02:29 and without beast, even in the cities of Judah,
02:31 and in the streets of Jerusalem,
02:33 that are desolate, without man,
02:34 and without inhabitant, and without beast,
02:36 The voice of joy, and the voice of gladness,
02:39 and the voice of the bridegroom,
02:41 and the voice of the bride,
02:42 the voice of them that shall say,
02:44 Praise the Lord of hosts, for the Lord is good,
02:48 for his mercy endureth forever,
02:50 and of them that shall bring
02:51 the sacrifice of praise into the house of the Lord.
02:55 For I will cause to return the captivity of the land,
02:58 as at the first, saith the Lord.
03:01 Thus saith the Lord of hosts, Again in this place,
03:05 which is desolate without man and without beast,
03:09 and in all the cities thereof,
03:10 shall be an habitation of shepherds
03:13 causing their flocks to lie down.
03:16 In the cities of the mountains,
03:18 in the cities of the vale,
03:19 and in the cities of the south,
03:21 and in the land of Benjamin,
03:22 and in the places about Jerusalem,
03:25 and in the cities of Judah,
03:27 shall the flocks pass again under the hands of him
03:29 that telleth them, saith the Lord.
03:32 Behold, the days come, saith the Lord,
03:35 that I will perform that good thing
03:37 which I have promised unto the house of Israel
03:40 and to the house of Judah.
03:43 In those days, and at that time,
03:46 will I cause the Branch of righteousness
03:48 to grow up unto David, and he shall execute judgment
03:53 and righteousness in the land.
03:55 In those days shall Judah be saved,
03:57 and Jerusalem shall dwell safely,
04:00 and this is the name wherewith she shall be called,
04:04 The Lord our righteousness.
04:07 For thus saith the Lord,
04:08 David shall never want a man
04:09 to sit upon the throne of the house of Israel,
04:12 Neither shall the priests the Levites want a man
04:15 before me to offer burnt offerings,
04:17 and to kindle meat offerings,
04:18 and to do sacrifice continually.
04:21 And the word of the Lord came unto Jeremiah, saying,
04:24 Thus saith the Lord,
04:26 If ye can break my covenant of the day,
04:28 and my covenant of the night,
04:30 and that there should not be day
04:31 and night in their season,
04:33 Then may also my covenant be broken
04:35 with David my servant,
04:37 that he should not have a son to reign upon his throne,
04:40 and with the Levites the priests, my ministers.
04:43 As the host of heaven cannot be numbered,
04:47 neither the sand of the sea measured,
04:49 so will I multiply the seed of David my servant,
04:53 and the Levites that minister unto me.
04:56 Moreover the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah, saying,
05:00 Considerest thou not what this people
05:03 have spoken, saying,
05:05 The two families which the Lord hath chosen,
05:07 he hath even cast them off?
05:09 Thus they have despised my people,
05:11 that they should be no more a nation before them.
05:14 Thus saith the Lord,
05:16 If my covenant be not with day and night,
05:20 and if I have not appointed
05:21 the ordinances of heaven and earth,
05:24 Then will I cast away the seed of Jacob
05:26 and David my servant,
05:28 so that I will not take any of his seed
05:30 to be rulers over the seed of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob,
05:34 for I will cause their captivity to return,
05:38 and have mercy on them.
05:41 Continuing with Jeremiah Chapter 34
05:43 and this is the King James Version.
05:47 The word which came unto Jeremiah from the Lord,
05:50 when Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and all his army,
05:53 and all the kingdoms of the earth of his dominion,
05:56 and all the people, fought against Jerusalem,
05:59 and against all the cities thereof, saying,
06:01 Thus saith the Lord, the God of Israel,
06:05 Go and speak to Zedekiah king of Judah, and tell him,
06:08 Thus saith the Lord, Behold,
06:10 I will give this city into the hand
06:13 of the king of Babylon,
06:15 and he shall burn it with fire,
06:17 And thou shalt not escape out of his hand,
06:20 but shalt surely be taken, and delivered into his hand,
06:23 and thine eyes shall behold
06:24 the eyes of the king of Babylon,
06:26 and he shall speak with thee mouth to mouth,
06:30 and thou shalt go to Babylon.
06:33 Yet hear the word of the Lord,
06:35 O Zedekiah king of Judah, Thus saith the Lord of thee,
06:39 Thou shalt not die by the sword,
06:42 But thou shalt die in peace,
06:44 and with the burnings of thy fathers,
06:46 the former kings which were before thee,
06:49 so shall they burn odors for thee,
06:51 and they will lament thee, saying, Ah Lord!
06:54 For I have pronounced the word, saith the Lord.
06:58 Then Jeremiah the prophet spake all these words
07:01 unto Zedekiah king of Judah in Jerusalem,
07:04 When the king of Babylon's army fought against Jerusalem,
07:07 and against all the cities of Judah that were left,
07:10 against Lachish, and against Azekah,
07:13 for these defenced cities
07:15 remained of the cities of Judah.
07:17 This is the word that came unto Jeremiah from the Lord,
07:21 after that the king Zedekiah had made a covenant
07:24 with all the people which were at Jerusalem,
07:27 to proclaim liberty unto them,
07:29 That every man should let his manservant,
07:32 and every man his maidservant,
07:34 being an Hebrew or an Hebrewess, go free,
07:39 that none should serve himself of them,
07:41 to wit, of a Jew his brother.
07:44 Now when all the princes, and all the people,
07:46 which had entered into the covenant,
07:49 heard that everyone should let his manservant,
07:51 and everyone his maidservant, go free,
07:53 that none should serve themselves of them anymore,
07:57 then they obeyed, and let them go.
08:00 But afterward they turned, and caused the servants
08:04 and the handmaids, whom they had let go free,
08:07 to return, and brought them
08:09 into subjection for servants and for handmaids.
08:13 Therefore the word of the Lord
08:14 came to Jeremiah from the Lord, saying,
08:17 Thus saith the Lord, the God of Israel,
08:20 I made a covenant with your fathers in the day
08:22 that I brought them forth out of the land of Egypt,
08:24 out of the house of bondmen, saying,
08:26 At the end of seven years
08:28 let ye go every man his brother an Hebrew,
08:30 which hath been sold unto thee,
08:33 and when he hath served thee six years,
08:35 thou shalt let him go free from thee,
08:37 but your fathers hearkened not unto me,
08:39 neither inclined their ear.
08:41 And ye were now turned,
08:43 and had done right in my sight,
08:44 in proclaiming liberty every man to his neighbor,
08:48 and ye had made a covenant before me
08:49 in the house which is called by my name,
08:52 But ye turned and polluted my name,
08:56 and caused every man his servant,
08:58 and every man his handmaid,
09:00 whom he had set at liberty at their pleasure, to return,
09:04 and brought them into subjection,
09:06 to be unto you for servants and for handmaids.
09:09 Therefore thus saith the Lord,
09:10 Ye have not hearkened unto me,
09:11 in proclaiming liberty, every one to his brother,
09:13 and every man to his neighbor,
09:16 behold, I proclaim a liberty for you,
09:18 saith the Lord, to the sword, to the pestilence,
09:22 and to the famine, and I will make you
09:24 to be removed into all the kingdoms of the earth.
09:27 And I will give the men that have transgressed my covenant,
09:30 which have not performed the words of the covenant
09:32 which they had made before me,
09:33 when they cut the calf in twain,
09:35 and passed between the parts thereof,
09:38 The princes of Judah, and the princes of Jerusalem,
09:40 the eunuchs, and the priests,
09:42 and all the people of the land,
09:43 which passed between the parts of the calf,
09:45 I will even give them into the hand of their enemies,
09:49 and into the hand of them that seek their life,
09:52 and their dead bodies shall be for meat
09:54 unto the fowls of the heaven,
09:56 and to the beasts of the earth.
09:59 And Zedekiah king of Judah and his princess
10:01 will I give into the hand of their enemies,
10:04 and into the hand of them that seek their life,
10:06 and into the hand of the king of Babylon's army,
10:08 which are gone up from you.
10:10 Behold, I will command, saith the Lord,
10:14 and cause them to return to this city,
10:16 and they shall fight against it,
10:18 and take it, and burn it with fire,
10:22 and I will make the cities of Judah
10:24 a desolation without an inhabitant
10:28 Continuing in the Book of Jeremiah Chapter 35
10:31 and this is the King James Version.
10:34 The word which came unto Jeremiah
10:37 from the Lord in the days of Jehoiakim
10:40 the son of Josiah king of Judah, saying,
10:44 Go unto the house of the Rechabites,
10:47 and speak unto them,
10:49 and bring them into the house of the Lord,
10:50 into one of the chambers, and give them wine to drink.
10:54 Then I took Jaazaniah the son of Jeremiah,
10:58 the son of Habaziniah, and his brethren,
11:00 and all his sons, and the whole house
11:03 of the Rechabites, And I brought them
11:05 into the house of the Lord,
11:06 into the chamber of the sons of Hanan,
11:08 the son of Igdaliah, a man of God,
11:11 which was by the chamber of the princes,
11:13 which was above the chamber of Maaseiah
11:15 the son of Shallum, the keeper of the door,
11:19 And I set before the sons of the house
11:21 of the Rechabites pots full of wine, and cups,
11:25 and I said unto them, Drink ye wine.
11:28 But they said, We will drink no wine,
11:31 for Jonadab the son of Rechab
11:33 our father commanded us, saying,
11:36 Ye shall drink no wine,
11:37 neither ye, nor your sons forever,
11:41 Neither shall ye build house, nor sow seed,
11:43 nor plant vineyard, nor have any,
11:45 but all your days ye shall dwell in tents,
11:48 that ye may live many days
11:49 in the land where ye be strangers.
11:51 Thus have we obeyed the voice of Jonadab
11:54 the son of Rechab our father
11:55 in all that he hath charged us,
11:57 to drink no wine all our days,
12:00 we, our wives, our sons, nor our daughters,
12:03 Nor to build houses for us to dwell in,
12:05 neither have we vineyard, nor field, nor seed,
12:08 But we have dwelt in tents, and have obeyed,
12:10 and done according to all that Jonadab
12:12 our father commanded us.
12:15 But it came to pass,
12:16 when Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon
12:18 came up into the land, that we said,
12:19 Come, and let us go to Jerusalem
12:21 for fear of the army of the Chaldeans,
12:23 and for fear of the army of the Syrians,
12:24 so we dwell at Jerusalem.
12:27 Then came the word of the Lord unto Jeremiah, saying,
12:30 Thus saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel,
12:33 Go and tell the men of Judah
12:35 and the inhabitants of Jerusalem,
12:37 Will ye not receive instruction
12:39 to hearken to my words, saith the Lord.
12:42 The words of Jonadab the son of Rechab,
12:44 that he commanded his sons not to drink wine,
12:47 are performed, for unto this day they drink none,
12:51 but obey their father's commandment,
12:54 notwithstanding I have spoken unto you,
12:56 rising early and speaking,
12:58 but ye hearkened not unto me.
13:01 I have sent also unto you all
13:02 my servants the prophets, rising up early
13:05 and sending them, saying, Return ye now every man
13:08 from his evil way, and amend your doings,
13:11 and go not after other gods to serve them,
13:13 and ye shall dwell in the land
13:14 which I have given to you and to your fathers,
13:17 but ye have not inclined your ear,
13:19 nor hearkened unto me.
13:21 Because the sons of Jonadab the son of Rechab
13:24 have performed the commandment of their father,
13:27 which he commanded them,
13:28 but this people hath not hearkened unto me,
13:31 Therefore thus saith the Lord God of hosts,
13:34 the God of Israel, Behold, I will bring upon Judah
13:38 and upon all the inhabitants of Jerusalem all the evil
13:41 that I have pronounced against them,
13:42 because I have spoken unto them,
13:44 but they have not heard, and I have called unto them,
13:47 but they have not answered.
13:50 And Jeremiah said unto the house of the Rechabites,
13:52 Thus saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel,
13:55 Because ye have obeyed
13:57 the commandment of Jonadab your father,
14:00 and kept all his precepts, and done according unto all
14:04 that he hath commanded you,
14:06 Therefore thus saith the Lord of hosts,
14:07 the God of Israel, Jonadab the son of Rechab
14:10 shall not want a man to stand before me forever.
14:16 Continuing with Jeremiah Chapter 36.
14:18 And it came to pass in the fourth year
14:20 of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah,
14:23 that this word came unto Jeremiah
14:25 from the Lord, saying, Take thee a roll of a book,
14:28 and write therein all the words
14:30 that I have spoken unto thee against Israel,
14:32 and against Judah, and against all the nations,
14:35 from the day I spake unto thee,
14:36 from the days of Josiah, even unto this day.
