00:15 Hello and welcome to "His Words Are Life."
00:18 I'm Kelly Mowrer and today 00:19 we'll continuing together from the Book of Jeremiah. 00:22 But let's pray before we start. 00:25 Dear Heavenly Father, thank you so much 00:27 for giving us the gift of Your words 00:31 as a guide to our feet and as a source of wisdom 00:35 and counsel and comfort. 00:37 Please be with us now as we read 00:39 and give us understanding of what we hear. 00:42 We love You so much 00:43 and thank you for loving us, amen. 00:46 When we were last together, we were reading the story 00:48 of a prophet who came along during the days of Jeremiah. 00:53 A prophet by the name of, Hananiah, 00:55 who was prophesying that the captives 00:58 of Babylon would shortly be returned. 01:01 We're gonna pick up that story now 01:03 in Jeremiah Chapter 28 beginning with verse 15 01:08 and this is the King James Version. 01:12 Then said the prophet Jeremiah 01:14 unto Hananiah the prophet, Hear now, Hananiah, 01:18 the Lord hath not sent thee, 01:21 but thou makest this people to trust in a lie. 01:26 Therefore thus saith the Lord, Behold, 01:28 I will cast thee from off the face of the earth, 01:32 this year thou shalt die, 01:34 because thou hast taught rebellion against the Lord. 01:38 So Hananiah the prophet died 01:41 the same year in the seventh month. 01:44 Continuing now in Jeremiah Chapter 29, 01:47 this is the King James Version. 01:50 Now these are the words of the letter 01:53 that Jeremiah the prophet sent from Jerusalem 01:57 unto the residue of the elders 01:58 which were carried away captives, 02:00 and to the priests, and to the prophets, 02:03 and to all the people whom Nebuchadnezzar 02:05 had carried away captive from Jerusalem to Babylon. 02:09 After that Jeconiah the king, and the queen, 02:12 and the eunuchs, the princes of Judah 02:14 and Jerusalem, and the carpenters, and the smiths, 02:18 were departed from Jerusalem. 02:21 By the hand of Elasah the son of Shaphan, 02:26 and Gemariah the son of Hilkiah, 02:28 whom Zedekiah king of Judah sent unto Babylon 02:31 to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon saying, 02:35 thus saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, 02:38 unto all that are carried away captives, 02:41 whom I have caused to be carried away 02:43 from Jerusalem unto Babylon. 02:47 Build ye houses, and dwell in them 02:50 and plant gardens, and eat the fruit of them. 02:54 Take ye wives, and beget sons and daughters, 02:57 and take wives for your sons, 02:59 and give your daughters to husbands, 03:01 that they may bear sons and daughters, 03:03 that ye may be increased there and not diminished. 03:08 And seek the peace of the city 03:10 whither I have caused you to be carried away captives, 03:12 and pray unto the Lord for it, 03:15 for in the peace thereof shall ye have peace. 03:20 For thus saith the Lord of hosts the God of Israel. 03:23 Let not your prophets and your diviners, 03:26 that be in the midst of you, deceive you, 03:28 neither hearken to your dreams 03:30 which ye cause to be dreamed. 03:31 For they prophesy falsely unto you in my name. 03:34 I have not sent them, saith the Lord. 03:38 For thus saith the Lord, that after seventy years 03:41 be accomplished at Babylon I will visit you, 03:45 and perform my good word toward you, 03:47 in causing you to return to this place. 03:51 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, 03:54 saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, 03:59 to give you an expected end. 04:02 Then shall ye call upon me, and ye shall go 04:05 and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you. 04:09 And ye shall seek me, and find me, 04:12 when ye shall search for me with all your heart. 04:16 And I will be found of you, saith the Lord. 04:19 And I will turn away your captivity, 04:21 and I will gather you from all the nations, 04:24 and from all the places 04:26 whither I have driven you, saith the Lord. 04:29 And I will bring you again into the place 04:32 whence I caused you to be carried away captive. 04:35 Because ye have said, 04:36 The Lord hath raised us up prophets in Babylon. 04:39 Know that thus saith the Lord of the king 04:42 that sitteth upon the throne of David, 04:44 and of all the people that dwelleth in this city, 04:46 and of your brethren that are not gone 04:48 forth with you into captivity. 04:50 Thus saith the Lord of hosts. 04:52 Behold I will send upon them 04:54 the sword, the famine, and the pestilence, 04:56 and will make them like vile figs, 04:58 that cannot be eaten, they are so evil. 05:01 And I will persecute them with the sword, 05:03 with the famine, and with the pestilence, 05:05 and will deliver them to be removed 05:07 to all the kingdoms of the earth, 05:09 to be a curse, and an astonishment, 05:11 and an hissing, and a reproach, 05:14 among all the nations whither I have driven them. 05:17 Because they have not hearkened to my words, 05:19 saith the Lord, which I sent unto them 05:21 by my servants the prophets, 05:23 rising up early and sending them, 05:25 but ye would not hear, saith the Lord. 05:28 Hear ye therefore the word of the Lord, 05:29 all ye of the captivity, whom I have sent 05:32 from Jerusalem to Babylon. 05:34 Thus saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, 05:37 of Ahab the son of Kolaiah, 05:39 and of Zedekiah the son of Maaseiah, 05:41 which prophesy a lie unto you in my name. 05:44 Behold, I will deliver them into the hand 05:46 of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, 05:49 and he shall slay them before your eyes. 05:52 And of them shall be taken up a curse 05:54 by all the captivity of Judah 05:56 which are in Babylon, saying, 05:58 the Lord make thee like Zedekiah and like Ahab, 06:01 whom the king of Babylon roasted in the fire. 06:04 Because they have committed villany in Israel, 06:07 and have committed adultery with their neighbors' wives, 06:09 and have spoken lying words in my name, 06:12 which I have not commanded them 06:14 even I know, and am a witness, saith the Lord. 06:18 Thus shalt thou also speak to Shemaiah 06:21 the Nehelamite, saying, 06:23 the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, saying, 06:27 because thou hast sent letters in thy name 06:29 unto all the people that are at Jerusalem, 06:31 and to Zephaniah the son of Maaseiah the priest, 06:35 and to all the priests, saying, 06:36 the Lord hath made thee priest 06:38 in the stead of Jehoiada the priest, 06:40 that ye should be officers in the house of the Lord, 06:43 for every man that is mad, and maketh himself a prophet, 06:46 that thou shouldest put him in prison, 06:48 and in the stocks. 06:50 Now therefore why hast thou not 06:51 reproved Jeremiah of Anathoth, 06:54 which maketh himself a prophet to you? 06:56 For therefore he sent unto us in Babylon, saying, 06:59 this captivity is long, build ye houses, 07:01 and dwell in them, and plant gardens, 07:02 and eat the fruit of them. 07:05 And Zephaniah the priest read this letter 07:07 in the ears of Jeremiah the prophet. 07:10 Then came the word of the Lord 07:11 unto Jeremiah, saying, send to all them 07:14 of the captivity, saying, thus saith the Lord 07:17 concerning Shemaiah the Nehelamite. 07:21 Because that Shemaiah hath prophesied unto you, 07:24 and I sent him not, 07:26 and he caused you to trust in a lie 07:30 Therefore thus saith the Lord, behold, 07:32 I will punish Shemaiah the Nehelamite, 07:35 and his seed he shall not have a man 07:38 to dwell among this people, 07:40 neither shall he behold the good 07:42 that I will do for my people, saith the Lord, 07:45 because he hath taught rebellion against the Lord. 07:51 Continuing now in the Book of Jeremiah Chapter 30 07:54 and this is the King James Version. 07:57 The word that came to Jeremiah from the Lord, 07:59 saying, thus speaketh the Lord 08:02 God of Israel, saying, Write thee all the words 08:05 that I have spoken unto thee in a book. 08:08 For, lo, the days come, saith the Lord, 08:10 that I will bring again the captivity 08:12 of my people Israel and Judah, saith the Lord 08:16 and I will cause them to return to the land 08:18 that I gave to their fathers, and they shall possess it. 08:23 And these are the words that the Lord spake 08:25 concerning Israel and concerning Judah. 08:28 For thus saith the Lord, 08:30 We have heard a voice of trembling, 08:33 of fear, and not of peace. 08:36 Ask ye now, and see whether a man doth travail with child? 08:40 Wherefore do I see every man with his hands on his loins, 08:42 as a woman in travail, 08:43 and all faces are turned into paleness? 08:47 Alas! For that day is great, so that none is like it, 08:51 it is even the time of Jacob's trouble, 08:55 but he shall be saved out of it. 08:57 For it shall come to pass in that day, 08:59 saith the Lord of hosts, that I will break his yoke 09:03 from off thy neck, and will burst thy bonds, 09:07 and strangers shall no more serve themselves of him. 09:10 But they shall serve the Lord their God, 09:13 and David their king, whom I will raise up unto them. 09:17 Therefore fear thou not, O my servant Jacob, 09:20 saith the Lord, neither be dismayed, 09:22 O Israel, for, lo, I will save thee from afar, 09:28 and thy seed from the land of their captivity 09:31 and Jacob shall return, and shall be in rest, 09:34 and be quiet, and none shall make him afraid. 09:38 For I am with thee, saith the Lord, to save thee. 09:43 Though I make a full end of all nations 09:46 whither I have scattered thee, 09:48 yet I will not make a full end of thee, 09:51 but I will correct thee in measure, 09:54 and will not leave thee altogether unpunished. 09:57 For thus saith the Lord, thy bruise is incurable, 10:01 and thy wound is grievous. 10:04 There is none to plead thy cause, 10:06 that thou mayest be bound up 10:08 thou hast no healing medicines. 10:11 All thy lovers have forgotten thee, 10:14 they seek thee not, 10:16 for I have wounded thee with the wound of an enemy, 10:18 with the chastisement of a cruel one, 10:20 for the multitude of thine iniquity, 10:23 because thy sins were increased. 10:26 Why criest thou for thine affliction? 10:29 Thy sorrow is incurable 10:31 for the multitude of thine iniquity, 10:34 because thy sins were increased, 10:35 I have done these things unto thee. 10:38 Therefore all they that devour thee shall be devoured 10:42 and all thine adversaries, every one of them, 10:45 shall go into captivity and they that spoil thee 10:48 shall be a spoil, and all that prey upon thee 10:51 will I give for a prey. 10:54 For I will restore health unto thee, 10:57 and I will heal thee of thy wounds, 10:59 saith the Lord, because they called thee 11:02 an Outcast, saying, This is Zion, 11:06 whom no man seeketh after. 11:08 Thus saith the Lord behold, 11:11 I will bring again the captivity of Jacob's tents, 11:15 and have mercy on his dwellingplaces 11:18 and the city shall be builded upon her own heap, 11:20 and the palace shall remain after the manner thereof. 11:24 And out of them shall proceed thanksgiving 11:27 and the voice of them that make merry 11:30 and I will multiply them, and they shall not be few, 11:34 I will also glorify them, and they shall not be small. 11:38 Their children also shall be as aforetime, 11:41 and their congregation shall be established before me, 11:45 and I will punish all that oppress them. 11:47 And their nobles shall be of themselves, 11:50 and their governor shall proceed 11:52 from the midst of them, 11:53 and I will cause him to draw near, 11:54 and he shall approach unto me. 11:57 For who is this that engaged his heart 11:59 to approach unto me, saith the Lord. 12:02 And ye shall be my people, and I will be your God. 12:06 Behold, the whirlwind of the Lord goeth forth with fury, 12:09 a continuing whirlwind it shall fall with pain 12:13 upon the head of the wicked. 12:15 The fierce anger of the Lord shall not return, 12:18 until he hath done it, and until he have performed 12:20 the intents of his heart 12:22 in the latter days ye shall consider it. 12:27 Continuing now with Jeremiah Chapter 31, 12:29 this is the King James Version. 12:32 At the same time, saith the Lord, 12:35 will I be the God of all the families of Israel, 12:38 and they shall be my people. 12:41 Thus saith the Lord, the people which were left 12:44 of the sword found grace in the wilderness, 12:48 even Israel, when I went to cause him to rest. 12:52 The Lord hath appeared of old unto me, saying, 12:55 yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love 12:59 therefore with loving kindness have I drawn thee. 13:03 Again I will build thee, and thou shalt be built, 13:07 O virgin of Israel thou shalt again 13:09 be adorned with thy tabrets, 13:11 and shalt go forth in the dances of them 13:13 that make merry. 13:15 Thou shalt yet plant vines upon the mountains 13:17 of Samaria the planters shall plant, 13:20 and shall eat them as common things. 13:23 For there shall be a day, that the watchmen 13:25 upon the mount Ephraim shall cry, Arise ye, 13:29 and let us go up to Zion unto the Lord our God. 13:33 For thus saith the Lord Sing with gladness for Jacob, 13:36 and shout among the chief of the nations publish ye, 13:40 praise ye, and say, 13:41 O Lord, save thy people, the remnant of Israel. 13:45 Behold, I will bring them from the north country, 13:47 and gather them from the coasts of the earth, 13:50 and with them the blind and the lame, 13:52 the woman with child and her that travaileth 13:54 with child together a great company shall return thither. 13:59 They shall come with weeping, 14:00 and with supplications will I lead them. 14:03 I will cause them to walk by the rivers of waters 14:06 in a straight way, wherein they shall not stumble 14:10 for I am a father to Israel, and Ephraim is my firstborn. 14:15 Hear the word of the Lord, O ye nations, 14:17 and declare it in the isles afar off, and say, 14:20 He that scattered Israel will gather him, 14:23 and keep him, as a shepherd doth his flock. 14:27 For the Lord hath redeemed Jacob, 14:31 and ransomed him from the hand of him 14:34 that was stronger than he. 14:36 Please join me again next time 14:38 to continue reading the word of God together. |
