00:16 Hello and welcome to His Words Are Life.
00:18 I'm Kelly Mowrer and today we'll continue reading together in the 00:21 book of Jeremiah. So let's pray before we start. 00:24 Dear heaven Father, thank you so much for your word which is 00:29 a light to our path guiding us in a safe way to walk. Thank you 00:35 for your word which is wisdom to us. Please send the Holy 00:38 Spirit now to give us understanding of what we will 00:42 hear. We love you so much and thank you for loving us. Amen. 00:46 Reading in Jeremiah chapter 13 beginning in verse 12 and this 00:50 is the King James Version. 00:51 Therefore thou shalt speak unto them this word; Thus saith the 00:56 Lord God of Israel, Every bottle shall be filled with wine: and 01:00 they shall say unto thee, Do we not certainly know that every 01:03 bottle shall be filled with wine? Then shalt thou say unto 01:07 them, Thus saith the Lord, Behold, I will fill all the 01:10 inhabitants of this land, even the kings that sit upon David's 01:14 throne, and the priests, and the prophets, and all the 01:16 inhabitants of Jerusalem, with drunkenness. And I will dash 01:20 them one against another, even the fathers and the sons 01:23 together, saith the Lord: I will not pity, nor spare, nor have 01:28 mercy, but destroy them. Hear ye, and give ear; be not proud: 01:33 for the Lord hath spoken. Give glory to the Lord your God, 01:37 before he cause darkness, and before your feet stumble upon 01:40 the dark mountains, and, while ye look for light, he turn it 01:43 into the shadow of death, and make it gross darkness. But if 01:47 ye will not hear it, my soul shall weep in secret places for 01:51 your pride; and mine eye shall weep sore, and run down with 01:55 tears, because the Lord's flock is carried away captive. 02:00 Say unto the king and to the queen, Humble yourselves, sit 02:04 down: for your principalities shall come down, even the crown 02:08 of your glory. The cities of the south shall be shut up, and none 02:12 shall open them: Judah shall be carried away captive all of it, 02:17 it shall be wholly carried away captive. Lift up your eyes, and 02:21 behold them that come from the north: where is the flock that 02:25 was given thee, thy beautiful flock? What wilt thou say when 02:29 he shall punish thee? for thou hast taught them to be captains, 02:32 and as chief over thee: shall not sorrows take thee, as a 02:36 woman in travail? And if thou say in thine heart, Wherefore 02:39 come these things upon me? For the greatness of thine iniquity 02:43 are thy skirts discovered, and thy heels made bare. Can the 02:47 Ethiopian change his skin, or the leopard his spots? then may 02:52 ye also do good, that are accustomed to do evil. 02:55 Therefore will I scatter them as the stubble that passeth away 03:00 by the wind of the wilderness. This is thy lot, the portion of 03:05 thy measures from me, saith the Lord; because thou hast 03:09 forgotten me, and trusted in falsehood. Therefore will I 03:13 discover thy skirts upon thy face, that thy shame may appear. 03:17 I have seen thine adulteries, and thy neighings, the lewdness 03:21 of thy whoredom, and thine abominations on the hills in the 03:25 fields. Woe unto thee, O Jerusalem! wilt thou not be made 03:29 clean? when shall it once be? 03:32 We're continuing in the book of Jeremiah and this is chapter 03:36 14 in the King James Version. 03:39 The word of the Lord that came to Jeremiah concerning the 03:44 dearth. Judah mourneth, and the gates thereof languish; they are 03:50 black unto the ground; and the cry of Jerusalem is gone up. 03:53 And their nobles have sent their little ones to the waters: they 03:57 came to the pits, and found no water; they returned with their 04:02 vessels empty; they were ashamed and confounded, and 04:07 covered their heads. Because the ground is chapt, for there 04:10 was no rain in the earth, the plowmen were ashamed, they 04:14 covered their heads. Yea, the hind also calved in the field, 04:18 and forsook it, because there was no grass. And the wild asses 04:22 did stand in the high places, they snuffed up the wind like 04:26 dragons; their eyes did fail, because there was no grass. 04:31 O Lord, though our iniquities testify against us, do thou it 04:36 for thy name's sake: for our backslidings are many; we have 04:41 sinned against thee. O the hope of Israel, the savior thereof in 04:46 time of trouble, why shouldest thou be as a stranger in the 04:50 land, and as a wayfaring man that turneth aside to tarry for 04:53 a night? Why shouldest thou be as a man astonied, as a mighty 04:58 man that cannot save? yet thou, O Lord, art in the midst of us, 05:03 and we are called by thy name; leave us not. Thus saith the 05:09 Lord unto this people, Thus have they loved to wander, they have 05:13 not refrained their feet, therefore the Lord doth not 05:16 accept them; he will now remember their iniquity, 05:19 and visit their sins. Then said the Lord unto me, Pray not for 05:23 this people for their good. When they fast, I will not hear their 05:27 cry; and when they offer burnt offering and an oblation, I will 05:30 not accept them: but I will consume them by the sword, 05:34 and by the famine, and by the pestilence. Then said I, Ah, 05:38 Lord God! behold, the prophets say unto them, Ye shall not see 05:42 the sword, neither shall ye have famine; but I will give you 05:45 assured peace in this place. Then the Lord said unto me, 05:49 The prophets prophesy lies in my name: I sent them not, 05:53 neither have I commanded them, neither spake unto them: they 05:58 prophesy unto you a false vision and divination, and a thing of 06:02 nought, and the deceit of their heart. Therefore thus saith the 06:07 Lord concerning the prophets that prophesy in my name, and 06:12 I sent them not, yet they say, Sword and famine shall not be 06:16 in this land; By sword and famine shall those prophets 06:20 be consumed. And the people to whom they prophesy shall be cast 06:24 out in the streets of Jerusalem because of the famine and the 06:28 sword; and they shall have none to bury them, them, their wives, 06:31 nor their sons, nor their daughters: for I will pour their 06:35 wickedness upon them. Therefore thou shalt say this word unto 06:39 them; Let mine eyes run down with tears night and day, and 06:43 let them not cease: for the virgin daughter of my people is 06:47 broken with a great breach, with a very grievous blow. If I go 06:51 forth into the field, then behold the slain with the sword! 06:54 and if I enter into the city, then behold them that are sick 06:58 with famine! yea, both the prophet and the priest go 07:00 about into a land that they know not. Hast thou utterly rejected 07:06 Judah? hath thy soul lothed Zion? why hast thou smitten us? 07:10 and there is no healing for us? we looked for peace, and there 07:15 is no good; and for the time of healing, and behold trouble! 07:19 We acknowledge, O Lord, our wickedness, and the iniquity of 07:24 our fathers: for we have sinned against thee. Do not abhor us, 07:29 for thy name's sake, do not disgrace the throne of thy 07:33 glory: remember, break not thy covenant with us. Are there any 07:38 among the vanities of the Gentiles that can cause rain? 07:41 or can the heavens give showers? art not thou he, O Lord our God? 07:47 therefore we will wait upon thee: for thou hast made all 07:53 these things. Continuing in Jeremiah chapter 07:58 15 and this is the King James Version. 08:01 Then said the Lord unto me, Though Moses and Samuel stood 08:06 before me, yet my mind could not be toward this people: cast them 08:11 out of my sight, and let them go forth. And it shall come to 08:14 pass, if they say unto thee, Whither shall we go forth? 08:17 then thou shalt tell them, Thus saith the Lord; Such as are for 08:23 death, to death; and such as are for the sword, to the sword; and 08:27 such as are for the famine, to the famine; and such as are for 08:32 the captivity, to the captivity. And I will appoint over them 08:37 four kinds, saith the Lord: the sword to slay, and the dogs to 08:41 tear, and the fowls of the heaven, and the beasts of the 08:46 earth, to devour and destroy. And I will cause them to be 08:50 removed into all kingdoms of the earth, because of Manasseh the 08:54 son of Hezekiah king of Judah, for that which he did in 08:58 Jerusalem. For who shall have pity upon thee, O Jerusalem? or 09:01 who shall bemoan thee? or who shall go aside to ask how thou 09:06 doest? Thou has forsaken me, saith the Lord, thou art gone 09:10 backward: therefore will I stretch out my hand against 09:14 thee, and destroy thee; I am weary with repenting. And I will 09:17 fan them with a fan in the gates of the land; I will bereave them 09:21 of children, I will destroy my people since they return not 09:25 from their ways. Their widows are increased to me above the 09:29 sand of the seas: I have brought upon them against the mother of 09:33 the young men a spoiler at noonday: I have caused him to 09:38 fall upon it suddenly, and terrors upon the city. She that 09:42 hath borne seven languisheth: she hath give up the ghost; her 09:46 sun is gone down while it was yet day: she hath been ashamed 09:49 and confounded: and the residue of them will I deliver to the 09:53 sword before their enemies, saith the Lord. Woe is me, my 09:57 mother, that thou has born me a man of strife and a man of 10:02 contention to the whole earth! I have neither lent on usury, 10:06 nor men have lent to me on usury yet every one of them doth curse 10:10 me. The Lord said, Verily it shall be well with thy remnant; 10:14 verily I will cause the enemy to entreat thee well in the time of 10:18 evil and in the time of affliction. Shall iron break the 10:22 northern iron and the steel? Thy substance and thy treasures 10:26 will I give to the spoil without price, and that for all thy sins 10:30 even in all thy borders. And I will make thee to pass with 10:35 thine enemies into a land which thou knowest not: for a fire is 10:40 kindled in mine anger, which shall burn upon you. O Lord, 10:45 thou knowest: remember me, and visit me, and revenge me of my 10:51 persecutors; take me not away in thy longsuffering: know that 10:56 for thy sake I have suffered rebuke. Thy words were found, 11:01 and I did eat them; and thy word was unto me the joy and 11:06 rejoicing of mine heart; for I am called by thy name, O Lord 11:11 God of hosts. I sat not in the assembly of the mockers, nor 11:16 rejoiced; I sat alone because of thy hand: for thou hast filled 11:21 me with indignation. Why is my pain perpetual, and my wound 11:26 incurable, which refuseth to be healed? wilt thou be altogether 11:31 unto me as a liar, and as waters that fail? Therefore thus saith 11:37 the Lord, if thou return, then will I bring thee again, and 11:41 thou shalt stand before me: and if thou take forth the precious 11:46 from the vile, thou shalt be as my mouth: let them return unto 11:51 thee; but return not thou unto them. And I will make thee unto 11:56 this people a fenced brasen wall: and they shall fight 12:00 against thee, but they shall not prevail against thee: for I am 12:04 with thee to save thee and to deliver thee, saith the Lord. 12:08 And I will deliver thee out of the hand of the wicked, and I 12:12 will redeem thee out of the hand of the terrible. 12:16 Continuing in the book of Jeremiah chapter 16 12:20 and this is the King James Version. 12:22 The word of the Lord came also unto me saying, Thou shalt not 12:27 take thee a wife, neither shalt thou have sons or daughters in 12:31 this place. For thus saith the Lord concerning the sons and 12:35 concerning the daughters that are born in this place, and 12:38 concerning their mothers that bare them, and concerning their 12:42 fathers that begat them in this land; they shall die of grievous 12:46 deaths; they shall not be lamented; neither shall they be 12:49 buried; but they shall be a dung upon the face of the earth: and 12:53 they shall be consumed by the sword, and by the famine; and 12:56 their carcases shall be meat for the fowls of heaven, and for the 12:59 beasts of the earth. For thus saith the Lord, Enter not into 13:03 the house of mourning, neither go to lament nor bemoan them: 13:06 for I have taken away my peace from this people, saith the 13:10 Lord, even lovingkindness and mercies. Both the great and the 13:15 small shall die in this land: they shall not be buried, 13:18 neither shall men lament for them, nor cut themselves, nor 13:21 make themselves bald for them: Neither shall men tear 13:24 themselves for them in mourning, to comfort them for the dead; 13:27 neither shall men give them the cup of consolation to drink for 13:30 their father or for their mother. Thou shalt not also 13:33 go into the house of feasting, to sit with them to eat and to 13:37 drink. For thus saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel; 13:41 Behold, I will cause to cease out of this place in your eyes, 13:45 and in your days, the voice of mirth, and the voice of gladness 13:48 the voice of the bridegroom, and the voice of the bride. 13:52 And it shall come to pass, when thou shalt shew this people all 13:55 these words, and they shall say unto thee, Wherefore hath the 13:58 Lord pronounced all this great evil against us? or what is our 14:01 iniquity? or what is our sin that we have committed against 14:05 the Lord our God? Then shalt thou say unto them, Because your 14:09 fathers have forsaken me, saith the Lord, and have walked after 14:13 other gods, and have served them and have worshiped them, and 14:17 have forsaken me, and have not kept my law; And ye have done 14:21 worse than your fathers; for behold, ye walk every one after 14:24 the imagination of his evil heart, that they may not 14:28 hearken unto me: Therefore will I cast you out of this land into 14:33 a land that ye know not, neither ye nor your fathers; |
