00:02 Hello and welcome to His Words Are Life
00:17 I'm Kelly Mowrer and thank you for joining with me today 00:21 to read the word of God. Let's pray before we start. 00:24 Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for this book that becomes to us 00:30 a light showing us the wise and safe way to conduct our lives, 00:34 the principles that you would have us to live by that will 00:38 smooth the path before us. Help us now today, please, as we read 00:42 in the book of Isaiah to hear the words and to see how you 00:46 would have them applied in each of our lives. We love you so 00:50 much and thank you for loving us. Amen. We're reading in 00:54 Isaiah chapter 38, picking up with verse 17 and this is the 00:59 King James Version. Hezekiah is speaking. He's been ill and God 01:04 is going to restore him, add 15 years to his life, 01:07 and we're in the middle of Hezekiah's speech. 01:09 Behold, for peace I had great bitterness but thou hast in love 01:15 to my soul delivered it from the pit of corruption: for thou hast 01:21 cast all my sins behind thy back. For the grave cannot 01:25 praise thee, death cannot celebrate thee: They that go 01:30 into the pit cannot hope for thy truth. The living, the living, 01:35 he shall praise thee, as I do this day: the father to the 01:39 children shall make know they truth. The Lord was ready to 01:43 save me: therefore we will sing my songs to the stringed 01:48 all the days of our life in the house of the Lord. For Isaiah 01:52 had said, Let them take a lump of figs, and lay it for a 01:56 plaster upon the boil, and he shall recover. Hezekiah also had 02:01 said, What is the sign that I shall go up to the house of 02:06 the Lord? Continuing in Isaiah chapter 39. This is the King 02:12 James Version. At that time Merodachbaladan, the son of 02:17 Baladan, king of Babylon, sent letters and a present to 02:21 Hezekiah: for he had heard that he had been sick and was 02:25 recovered. And Hezekiah was glad 02:27 of them, and shewed them the house of his precious things, 02:31 the silver, and the gold, and the spices, and the precious 02:35 ointment, and all the house of his armour, and all that was 02:38 found in his treasures: there was nothing in his house, nor 02:42 in all his dominion, that Hezekiah shewed them not. 02:46 Then came Isaiah the prophet unto king Hezekiah, and said 02:50 unto him, What said these men? and from whence came they unto 02:54 thee? And Hezekiah said, They are come from a far country unto 03:00 me, even from Babylon. Then said he, What have they seen in thine 03:05 house? And Hezekiah answered, All that is in mine house have 03:08 they seen: there is nothing among my treasures that I have 03:12 not shewed them. Then said Isaiah to Hezekiah, Hear the 03:16 word of the Lord of hosts: Behold, the days come, that all 03:20 that is in thine house, and that which thy fathers have laid up 03:25 in store until this day, shall be carried to Babylon: nothing 03:29 shall be left, saith the Lord. And of thy sons that shall issue 03:34 from thee, which thou shalt beget, shall they take away; 03:38 and they shall be eunuchs in the palace of the king of 03:42 Babylon. Then said Hezekiah to Isaiah, Good is the word of 03:46 the Lord which thou hast spoken. He said moreover, For there 03:51 shall be peace and truth in my days. Continuing with Isaiah 03:56 chapter 40. This is the King James Version. 03:59 Comfort ye, comfort ye my people, saith your God. Speak 04:04 ye comfortably to Jerusalem, and cry unto her, that her 04:09 warfare is accomplished, that her iniquity is pardoned: for 04:14 she hath received of the Lord's hand double for all her sins. 04:18 The voice of him that crieth in the wilderness, Prepare ye the 04:23 way of the Lord, make straight in the desert a highway for our 04:27 God. Every valley shall be exalted, and every mountain and 04:32 hill shall be made low: and the crooked shall be made straight, 04:37 and the rough places plain: And the glory of the Lord shall 04:42 be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together: for the mouth 04:47 of the Lord hath spoken it. The voice said, Cry. And he said 04:52 What shall I cry? All flesh is grass, and all the goodliness 04:56 thereof is as the flower of the field: The grass withereth, the 05:01 flower fadeth: because the spirit of the Lord bloweth upon 05:04 it: surely the people is grass. The grass withereth, the flower 05:10 fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand forever. 05:15 O Zion, that bringest good tidings, get thee up into the 05:19 high mountain; O Jerusalem, that bringest good tidings, lift 05:24 up thy voice with strength; lift it up, be not afraid; say unto 05:29 the cities of Judah, Behold your God! Behold the Lord God will 05:35 come with strong hand, and his arm shall rule for him: behold, 05:40 his reward is with him, and his work is before him. He shall 05:45 feed his flock like a shepherd: he shall gather the lambs with 05:50 his arm, and carry them in his bosom, and shall gently lead 05:54 those that are with young. Who hath measured the waters 05:59 in the hollow of his hand, and meted out heaven with the span, 06:03 and comprehended the dust of the earth in a measure, and 06:07 weighed the mountains in scales, and the hills in a balance? 06:11 Who hath directed the Spirit of the Lord, or being his 06:16 counsellor hath taught him? with whom to seek counsel 06:21 who instructed him, and taught him in the path of judgment, and 06:25 taught him knowledge, and shewed to him the way of 06:29 understanding? Behold, the nations are as a drop of a 06:33 bucket, and are counted as the small dust of the balance: 06:37 behold, he taketh up the isles as a very little thing. 06:41 And Lebanon is not sufficient to burn, nor the beasts thereof 06:46 sufficient for a burnt offering. All nations before him are as 06:50 nothing; and they are counted to him less than nothing, and 06:55 vanity. To whom then will ye liken God? or what likeness will 07:00 ye compare unto him? The workman melteth a graven 07:04 image, and the goldsmith spreadeth it over with gold, 07:07 and casteth silver chains. He that is so impoverished that he 07:12 hath no oblation chooseth a tree that will not rot; he seeketh 07:15 unto him a cunning workman to prepare a graven image, that 07:20 shall not be moved. Have ye not known? have ye not heard? hath 07:25 it not been told you from the beginning? have ye not 07:29 understood from the foundations of the earth? It is he that 07:33 sitteth upon the circle of the earth, and the inhabitants 07:36 thereof are as grasshoppers; that stretcheth out the heavens 07:40 as a curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in: 07:44 That bringeth the princes to nothing; he maketh the judges 07:48 of the earth as vanity. Yea, they shall not be planted; yea, 07:52 they shall not be sown: yea, their stock shall not take root 07:56 in the earth: and he shall also blow upon them, and they shall 08:00 wither, and the whirlwind shall take them away as stubble. 08:05 To whom then will ye liken me, or shall I be equal? saith the 08:10 Holy One. Lift up your eyes on high, and behold who hath 08:15 created these things, that bringeth out their host by 08:20 number: he calleth them all by names by the greatness of his 08:25 might, for that he is strong in power; not one faileth. 08:30 Why sayest thou, O Jacob, and speakest, O Israel, My way is 08:33 hid from the Lord, and my judgment is passed over from my 08:38 God? Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the 08:43 everlasting God, the Lord, the Creator of the ends of the 08:48 earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? there is no searching 08:52 of his understanding. He giveth power to the faint; and to them 08:58 that have no might he increaseth strength. Even the youths shall 09:03 faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall: 09:07 But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they 09:13 shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not 09:18 be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint. 09:22 Continuing in Isaiah Chapter 41 This is the King James Version 09:28 Keep silence before me, O islands; and let the people 09:33 renew their strength: let them come near; then let them speak: 09:38 let us come near together to judgment. Who raised up the 09:43 righteous man from the east, called him to his foot, gave 09:47 the nations before him, and made him rule over kings? he gave 09:50 them as dust to his sword, and as driven stubble to his bow. 09:55 He pursued them, and passed safely; even by the way that he 09:59 had not gone with his feet. Who hath wrought and done it, 10:03 calling the generations from the beginning? I the Lord, the first 10:09 and with the last; I am he. The isles saw it, and feared; the 10:15 ends of the earth were afraid, drew near, and came. They helped 10:19 every one his neighbour; and every one said to his brother, 10:24 Be of good courage. So the carpenter encouraged the 10:29 goldsmith, and he that smootheth with the hammer him that smote 10:33 the anvil saying, It is ready for sodering: and he fastened 10:38 with nails, that it should not be moved. But thou, Israel, art 10:42 my servant, Jacob whom I have chosen, the seed of Abraham my 10:47 friend. Thou whom I have taken from the ends of the earth, and 10:52 called thee from the chief men thereof, and said unto thee, 10:57 Thou art my servant; I have chosen thee, and not cast thee 11:03 away. Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for 11:09 I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea 11:15 I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness. 11:20 Behold, all they that were incensed against thee shall be 11:24 ashamed and confounded: they shall be as nothing; and they 11:29 that strive with thee shall perish. Thou shalt seek them, 11:33 and shall not find them; 11:35 even them that contended with thee: they that war against thee 11:40 shall be as nothing, and as a thing of nought. For I the Lord 11:47 thy God will hold thy right hand, saying unto thee, Fear 11:52 not; I will help thee. Fear not, thou worm Jacob, and ye men of 11:57 Israel; I will help thee, saith the Lord, and they redeemer, 12:01 the Holy One of Israel. Behold, I will make thee a new sharp 12:05 threshing instrument having teeth: thou shalt thresh the 12:09 mountains, and beat them small, and shalt make the hills as 12:12 chaff. Thou shalt fan them, and the wind shall carry them away, 12:16 and the whirlwind shall scatter them: and thou shalt rejoice 12:21 in the Lord, and shalt glory in the Holy One of Israel. When the 12:25 poor and needy seek water, and there is none, and their tongue 12:30 faileth for thirst, I the Lord will hear them, I the God of 12:35 Israel will not forsake them. I will open rivers in high 12:38 places, and fountains in the midst of the valleys: I will 12:43 make the wilderness a pool of water, and the dry land springs 12:47 of water. I will plant in the wilderness the cedar, the 12:52 shittah tree, and the myrtle, and the oil tree; I will set in 12:56 the desert the fir tree, and the pine, and the box tree together: 13:00 That they may see, and know, and consider, and understand 13:05 together, that the hand of the Lord hath done this, and the 13:10 Holy One of Israel hath created it. Produce your cause, saith 13:15 the Lord; bring forth your strong reasons, saith the King 13:19 of Jacob. Let them bring them forth, and shew us what shall 13:23 happen: let them shew the former things, what they be, 13:26 that we may consider them, and know the latter end of them; or 13:30 declare us things for to come. Shew the things that are to 13:34 come hereafter, that we may know that ye are gods: yea, do good, 13:38 or do evil, that we may be dismayed, and behold it 13:43 together. Behold, ye are of nothing, and your work of 13:47 nought: an abomination is he that chooseth you. I have raised 13:51 up one from the north, and he shall come: from the rising of 13:54 the sun shall he call upon my name: and he shall come upon 13:58 princes as upon mortar, and as the potter treadeth clay. 14:02 Who hath declared from the beginning, that we may know? 14:06 and beforetime, that we may say, He is righteous? yea, there 14:11 is none that sheweth, yea, there is none that declareth, yea, 14:16 there is none that heareth your words. The first shall say to 14:21 Zion, Behold, behold them: and I will give to Jerusalem one 14:26 that bringeth good tidings. For I beheld, and there was no man; 14:30 even among them, and there was no counsellor, that, when I 14:34 asked of them, could answer a word. Behold, they are all 14:38 vanity; their works are nothing: |
