00:15 Hello, and welcome to "His Words are Life".
00:18 I am Kelly Mowrer,
00:19 and today we're going to read together in Isaiah.
00:22 But let's pray before we start.
00:24 Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for a chance
00:27 to come in to hear of Your mighty strength
00:32 and of Your power
00:35 and of how You work mercy and justice and truth
00:40 for those who are oppressed.
00:42 Thank you for freeing us and for rescuing us
00:47 from the enemy who oppressed us.
00:49 We love you and we want to serve You better,
00:51 please show us how, amen.
00:55 We're reading in the book of Isaiah,
00:57 Chapter 24, beginning with verse 21
01:00 and this is the King James Version,
01:03 "And it shall come to pass in that day,
01:05 that the Lord shall punish the host of the high ones
01:08 that are on high,
01:10 and the kings of the earth upon the earth.
01:13 And they shall be gathered together,
01:14 as prisoners are gathered in the pit,
01:17 and shall be shut up in the prison,
01:18 and after many days shall they be visited.
01:22 Then the moon shall be confounded,
01:23 and the sun ashamed,
01:25 when the Lord of hosts shall reign in mount Zion,
01:28 and in Jerusalem,
01:30 and before his ancients gloriously.
01:34 Continuing in the Book of Isaiah with Chapter 25.
01:38 "O Lord, thou art my God,
01:41 I will exalt thee, I will praise thy name,
01:43 for thou hast done wonderful things,
01:46 thy counsels of old are faithfulness and truth.
01:50 For thou hast made of a city an heap,
01:53 of a defenced city a ruin,
01:56 the palace of strangers to be no city,
01:59 it shall never be built.
02:01 Therefore shall the strong people glorify thee,
02:03 the city of the terrible nations
02:05 shall fear thee.
02:07 For thou hast been a strength to the poor,
02:09 a strength to the needy in his distress,
02:12 a refuge from the storm, a shadow from the heat,
02:17 when the blast of the terrible ones
02:18 is as a storm against the wall.
02:21 "Thou shalt bring down the noise of strangers,
02:24 as the heat in a dry place,
02:26 even the heat with the shadow of a cloud,
02:29 the branch of the terrible ones
02:31 shall be brought low.
02:33 And in this mountain shall the Lord of hosts
02:35 make unto all people a feast of fat things,
02:39 a feast of wines on the lees, of fat things full of marrow,
02:44 of wines on the lees well refined.
02:47 And he will destroy in this mountain
02:49 the face of the covering cast over all people,
02:52 and the vail that is spread over all nations.
02:55 He will swallow up death in victory,
02:59 and the Lord God will wipe away
03:00 tears from off all faces,
03:03 and the rebuke of his people
03:05 shall he take away from off all the earth,
03:08 for the Lord hath spoken it.
03:10 And it shall be said in that day,
03:13 Lo, this is our God, we have waited for him,
03:16 and he will save us, this is the Lord,
03:19 we have waited for him,
03:20 we will be glad and rejoice in his salvation.
03:24 For in this mountain
03:25 shall the hand of the Lord rest,
03:27 and Moab shall be trodden down under him,
03:30 even as straw is trodden down for the dunghill."
03:34 And he shall spread forth his hands
03:36 in the midst of them, as he that swimmeth
03:38 spreadeth forth his hands to swim,
03:41 and he shall bring down their pride together
03:43 with the spoils of their hands.
03:45 And the fortress of the high fort of thy walls
03:48 shall he bring down, lay low,
03:51 and bring to the ground, even to the dust."
03:56 Continuing in Isaiah Chapter 26,
03:58 and this is the King James Version.
04:01 "In that day shall this song be sung
04:04 in the land of Judah, We have a strong city,
04:08 salvation will God appoint for walls and bulwarks.
04:12 Open ye the gates, that the righteous nation
04:15 which keepeth the truth may enter in.
04:19 Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace,
04:22 whose mind is stayed on thee, because he trusteth in thee.
04:27 Trust ye in the Lord for ever,
04:29 for in the Lord Jehovah is everlasting strength.
04:34 For he bringeth down them that dwell on high,
04:36 the lofty city, he layeth it low,
04:38 he layeth it low, even to the ground,
04:41 he bringeth it even to the dust.
04:44 The foot shall tread it down, even the feet of the poor,
04:47 and the steps of the needy.
04:50 The way of the just is uprightness,
04:53 thou, most upright,
04:55 dost weigh the path of the just.
04:58 Yea, in the way of thy judgments,
05:00 O Lord, have we waited for thee,
05:02 the desire of our soul is to thy name,
05:06 and to the remembrance of thee.
05:08 With my soul have I desired thee in the night,
05:10 yea, with my spirit within me
05:12 will I seek thee early,
05:14 for when thy judgments are in the earth,
05:16 the inhabitants of the world will learn righteousness.
05:19 Let favour be shewed to the wicked,
05:21 yet will he not learn uprightness,
05:24 in the land of uprightness will he deal unjustly,
05:26 and will not behold the majesty of the Lord.
05:29 Lord, when thy hand is lifted up,
05:31 they will not see, but they shall see,
05:35 and be ashamed for their envy at the people,
05:39 yea, the fire of thine enemies
05:40 shall devour them.
05:43 Lord, thou wilt ordain peace for us,
05:46 for thou also hast wrought all our works in us.
05:50 O Lord our God, other lords beside thee
05:54 have had dominion over us,
05:56 but by thee only will we make mention of thy name.
06:00 They are dead, they shall not live,
06:02 they are deceased, they shall not rise,
06:04 therefore hast thou visited and destroyed them,
06:06 and made all their memory to perish.
06:09 Thou hast increased the nation, O Lord,
06:11 thou hast increased the nation,
06:13 thou art glorified, thou hadst removed it far
06:17 unto all the ends of the earth.
06:19 Lord, in trouble have they visited thee,
06:22 they poured out a prayer
06:23 when thy chastening was upon them.
06:25 Like as a woman with child,
06:27 that draweth near the time of her delivery,
06:29 is in pain, and crieth out in her pangs,
06:31 so have we been in thy sight, O Lord.
06:34 We have been with child, we have been in pain,
06:36 we have as it were brought forth wind,
06:40 we have not wrought any deliverance in the earth,
06:43 neither have the inhabitants of the world fallen.
06:46 Thy dead men shall live,
06:47 together with my dead body shall they arise.
06:51 Awake and sing, ye that dwell in dust,
06:54 for thy dew is as the dew of herbs,
06:57 and the earth shall cast out the dead.
07:00 Come, my people, enter thou into thy chambers,
07:03 and shut thy doors about thee,
07:06 hide thyself as it were for a little moment,
07:09 until the indignation be overpast.
07:12 For, behold, the Lord cometh out of his place
07:15 to punish the inhabitants of the earth for their iniquity,
07:20 the earth also shall disclose her blood,
07:22 and shall no more cover her slain."
07:27 Continuing to read in the Book of Isaiah
07:29 Chapter 27, this is the King James Version.
07:34 "In that day the Lord with his sore and great
07:38 and strong sword
07:40 shall punish leviathan the piercing serpent,
07:43 even leviathan that crooked serpent,
07:45 and he shall slay the dragon
07:47 that is in the sea.
07:49 In that day sing ye unto her, A vineyard of red wine.
07:53 I the Lord do keep it, I will water it every moment,
07:58 lest any hurt it, I will keep it night and day.
08:03 Fury is not in me, who would set the briers
08:06 and thorns against me in battle?
08:09 I would go through them, I would burn them together.
08:13 Or let him take hold of my strength,
08:15 that he may make peace with me,
08:17 and he shall make peace with me.
08:19 He shall cause them
08:21 that come of Jacob to take root,
08:24 Israel shall blossom and bud,
08:26 and fill the face of the world with fruit.
08:29 Hath he smitten him,
08:31 as he smote those that smote him?
08:34 Or is he slain according to the slaughter of them
08:37 that are slain by him?
08:39 In measure, when it shooteth forth,
08:42 thou wilt debate with it,
08:44 he stayeth his rough wind
08:46 in the day of the east wind.
08:48 By this therefore
08:49 shall the iniquity of Jacob be purged,
08:52 and this is all the fruit to take away his sin,
08:55 when he maketh all the stones of the altar
08:57 as chalkstones that are beaten in sunder,
09:00 the groves and images shall not stand up.
09:05 Yet the defenced city shall be desolate,
09:09 and the habitation forsaken, and left like a wilderness,
09:12 there shall the calf feed, and there shall he lie down,
09:16 and consume the branches thereof.
09:19 When the boughs thereof are withered,
09:21 they shall be broken off,
09:22 the women come, and set them on fire,
09:25 for it is a people of no understanding,
09:28 therefore he that made them will not have mercy on them,
09:32 and he that formed them will shew them no favour.
09:35 And it shall come to pass in that day,
09:38 that the Lord shall beat off from the channel of the river
09:41 unto the stream of Egypt,
09:43 and ye shall be gathered one by one,
09:45 O ye children of Israel.
09:48 And it shall come to pass in that day,
09:49 that the great trumpet shall be blown,
09:51 and they shall come which were ready to perish
09:54 in the land of Assyria,
09:55 and the outcasts in the land of Egypt,
09:57 and shall worship the Lord
09:59 in the holy mount at Jerusalem."
10:03 Continuing with Isaiah Chapter 28,
10:05 this is the King James Version.
10:08 "Woe to the crown of pride, to the drunkards of Ephraim,
10:13 whose glorious beauty is a fading flower,
10:16 which are on the head of the fat valleys of them
10:19 that are overcome with wine!
10:22 Behold, the Lord hath a mighty and strong one,
10:25 which as a tempest of hail and a destroying storm,
10:29 as a flood of mighty waters overflowing,
10:32 shall cast down to the earth with the hand.
10:36 The crown of pride, the drunkards of Ephraim,
10:38 shall be trodden under feet.
10:41 And the glorious beauty,
10:42 which is on the head of the fat valley,
10:44 shall be a fading flower,
10:46 and as the hasty fruit before the summer,
10:50 which when he that looketh upon it seeth,
10:52 while it is yet in his hand he eateth it up.
10:56 In that day shall the Lord of hosts
10:58 be for a crown of glory, and for a diadem of beauty,
11:01 unto the residue of his people.
11:03 And for a spirit of judgment to him
11:05 that sitteth in judgment,
11:06 and for strength to them that turn the battle to the gate.
11:11 But they also have erred through wine,
11:13 and through strong drink are out of the way,
11:16 the priest and the prophet
11:18 have erred through strong drink,
11:19 they are swallowed up of wine,
11:21 they are out of the way through strong drink,
11:24 they err in vision, they stumble in judgment.
11:28 For all tables are full of vomit and filthiness,
11:30 so that there is no place clean.
11:33 Whom shall he teach knowledge?
11:35 And whom shall he make to understand doctrine?
11:39 Them that are weaned from the milk,
11:40 and drawn from the breasts.
11:43 For precept must be upon precept,
11:45 precept upon precept,
11:47 line upon line, line upon line,
11:49 here a little, and there a little.
11:52 For with stammering lips and another tongue
11:54 will he speak to this people.
11:56 To whom he said, This is the rest
11:57 wherewith ye may cause the weary to rest,
12:00 and this is the refreshing, yet they would not hear.
12:05 But the word of the Lord was unto them
12:06 precept upon precept, precept upon precept,
12:10 line upon line, line upon line,
12:14 here a little, and there a little,
12:16 that they might go, and fall backward,
12:18 and be broken, and snared, and taken.
12:22 Wherefore hear the word of the Lord,
12:23 ye scornful men, that rule this people
12:26 which is in Jerusalem.
12:28 Because ye have said,
12:30 We have made a covenant with death,
12:32 and with hell are we at agreement,
12:35 when the overflowing scourge shall pass through,
12:37 it shall not come unto us,
12:38 for we have made lies our refuge,
12:41 and under falsehood have we hid ourselves.
12:45 Therefore thus saith the Lord God,
12:48 Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone,
12:53 a tried stone, a precious corner stone,
12:56 a sure foundation, he that believeth
13:00 shall not make haste.
13:02 Judgment also will I lay to the line,
13:05 and righteousness to the plummet,
13:07 and the hail shall sweep away the refuge of lies,
13:11 and the waters shall overflow the hiding place.
13:15 And your covenant with death shall be disannulled,
13:17 and your agreement with hell shall not stand,
13:20 when the overflowing scourge shall pass through,
13:23 then ye shall be trodden down by it.
13:26 From the time that it goeth forth
13:28 it shall take you,
13:29 for morning by morning shall it pass over,
13:31 by day and by night,
13:32 and it shall be a vexation
13:33 only to understand the report.
13:36 For the bed is shorter
13:37 than that a man can stretch himself on it,
13:40 and the covering narrower
13:42 than that he can wrap himself in it.
13:44 For the Lord shall rise up as in mount Perazim,
13:48 he shall be wroth as in the valley of Gibeon,
13:51 that he may do his work, his strange work,
13:55 and bring to pass his act, his strange act.
13:59 Now therefore be ye not mockers,
14:03 lest your bands be made strong,
14:05 for I have heard from the Lord
14:06 God of hosts a consumption,
14:08 even determined upon the whole earth.
14:11 Give ye ear, and hear my voice,
14:14 hearken, and hear my speech.
14:17 Doth the plowman plow all day to sow?
14:19 doth he open and break the clods of his ground?
14:22 When he hath made plain the face thereof,
14:24 doth he not cast abroad the fitches,
14:26 and scatter the cummin,
14:27 and cast in the principal wheat
14:29 and the appointed barley and the rie in their place?
14:33 For his God doth instruct him to discretion,
14:37 and doth teach him.
