00:15 Hello and welcome to His Words Are Life.
00:18 I am Kelly Mowrer and today we're going to be reading
00:20 from the Book of Isaiah.
00:22 But before we start let's pray together.
00:25 Dear heavenly Father,
00:26 thank you for this time to sit with you
00:30 and to hear your voice speaking words of truth
00:33 down through the centuries
00:35 that can change our lives today.
00:37 Please give us understanding as we hear them
00:40 and please send the Holy Spirit to teach us
00:42 the lessons You have for us.
00:44 We love you so much
00:45 and thank you for loving us, amen.
00:48 We're picking up in Isaiah, Chapter 7,
00:51 beginning with verse 20.
00:53 This is the King James Version.
00:55 "In the same day shall the Lord shave
00:57 with a razor that is hired, namely,
01:00 by them beyond the river, by the king of Assyria,
01:03 the head, and the hair of the feet,
01:05 and it shall also consume the beard.
01:07 And it shall come to pass in that day,
01:09 that a man shall nourish a young cow,
01:11 and two sheep, and it shall come to pass,
01:13 for the abundance of milk
01:15 that they shall give he shall eat butter.
01:17 For butter and honey shall every one eat
01:19 that is left in the land.
01:21 And it shall come to pass in that day,
01:23 that every place shall be,
01:25 where there were a thousand vines
01:27 at a thousand silverlings,
01:29 it shall even be for briers and thorns.
01:32 With arrows and with bows shall men come thither,
01:36 because all the land shall become briers and thorns.
01:40 And on all hills that shall be digged with the mattock,
01:43 there shall not come thither
01:44 the fear of briers and thorns,
01:46 but it shall be for the sending forth of oxen,
01:48 and for the treading of lesser cattle."
01:52 Continuing in Isaiah, Chapter 8,
01:55 this is the King James Version.
01:57 "Moreover the Lord said unto me,
02:00 Take thee a great roll, and write in it
02:04 with a man's pen concerning Mahershalalhashbaz.
02:09 And I took unto me faithful witnesses to record,
02:13 Uriah the priest,
02:14 and Zechariah the son of Jeberechiah.
02:18 And I went unto the prophetess,
02:20 and she conceived, and bare a son.
02:22 Then said the Lord to me,
02:23 Call his name Mahershalalhashbaz.
02:27 For before the child shall have knowledge to cry,
02:29 my father, and my mother,
02:32 the riches of Damascus and the spoil of Samaria
02:35 shall be taken away before the king of Assyria.
02:38 The Lord spake also unto me again,
02:41 saying, Forasmuch as this people refuseth
02:44 the waters of Shiloah that go softly,
02:48 and rejoice in Rezin and Remaliah's son,
02:52 now therefore, behold, the Lord bringeth up
02:54 upon them the waters of the river,
02:56 strong and many, even the king of Assyria,
03:00 and all his glory,
03:02 and he shall come up over all his channels,
03:04 and go over all his banks.
03:06 And he shall pass through Judah,
03:07 he shall overflow and go over,
03:09 he shall reach even to the neck,
03:11 and the stretching out of his wings
03:13 shall fill the breadth of thy land, O Immanuel.
03:17 Associate yourselves, O ye people,
03:19 and ye shall be broken in pieces,
03:21 and give ear, all ye of far countries,
03:23 gird yourselves, and ye shall be broken in pieces,
03:25 gird yourselves, and ye shall be broken in pieces.
03:29 Take counsel together, and it shall come to nought,
03:33 speak the word, and it shall not stand,
03:36 for God is with us.
03:38 For the Lord spake thus to me with a strong hand,
03:42 and instructed me that I should not walk
03:44 in the way of this people, saying,
03:47 Say ye not, A confederacy,
03:49 to all them to whom this people shall say,
03:52 A confederacy, neither fear ye their fear,
03:56 nor be afraid.
03:58 Sanctify the Lord of hosts himself,
04:00 and let him be your fear, and let him be your dread.
04:05 And he shall be for a sanctuary,
04:09 but for a stone of stumbling and for a rock of offense
04:12 to both the houses of Israel,
04:14 for a gin and for a snare
04:16 to the inhabitants of Jerusalem.
04:18 And many among them shall stumble,
04:20 and fall, and be broken,
04:22 and be snared, and be taken.
04:26 Bind up the testimony,
04:27 seal the law among my disciples.
04:31 And I will wait upon the Lord,
04:33 that hideth his face from the house of Jacob,
04:35 and I will look for him.
04:37 Behold, I and the children
04:40 whom the Lord hath given me
04:42 are for signs and for wonders in Israel
04:44 from the Lord of hosts, which dwelleth in mount Zion.
04:47 And when they shall say unto you,
04:49 seek unto them that have familiar spirits,
04:52 and unto wizards that peep, and that mutter,
04:56 should not a people seek unto their God?
04:59 For the living to the dead?
05:02 To the law and to the testimony,
05:04 if they speak not according to this word,
05:07 it is because there is no light in them.
05:10 And they shall pass through it,
05:12 hardly bestead and hungry, and it shall come to pass,
05:16 that when they shall be hungry,
05:17 they shall fret themselves,
05:20 and curse their king and their God, and look upward.
05:22 And they shall look unto the earth,
05:23 and behold trouble and darkness,
05:26 dimness of anguish,
05:28 and they shall be driven to darkness."
05:31 Continuing with the Book of Isaiah, Chapter 9,
05:34 and this is the King James Version.
05:37 "Nevertheless the dimness shall not be
05:40 such as was in her vexation,
05:43 when at the first he lightly
05:45 afflicted the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali,
05:48 and afterward did more grievously afflict her
05:51 by the way of the sea, beyond Jordan,
05:53 in Galilee of the nations.
05:56 The people that walked in darkness
05:59 have seen a great light,
06:01 they that dwell in the land of the shadow of death,
06:04 upon them hath the light shined.
06:08 Thou hast multiplied the nation,
06:10 and not increased the joy,
06:13 they joy before thee
06:14 according to the joy in harvest,
06:15 and as men rejoice when they divide the spoil.
06:19 For thou hast broken the yoke of his burden,
06:21 and the staff of his shoulder,
06:23 the rod of his oppressor, as in the day of Midian.
06:27 For every battle of the warrior
06:29 is with confused noise, and garments rolled in blood,
06:33 but this shall be with burning and fuel of fire.
06:37 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given,
06:44 and the government shall be upon his shoulder,
06:47 and his name shall be called Wonderful,
06:50 Counsellor, The mighty God,
06:54 The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
06:58 Of the increase of his government and peace
07:01 there shall be no end, upon the throne of David,
07:05 and upon his kingdom, to order it,
07:08 and to establish it with judgment
07:10 and with justice from henceforth even forever.
07:15 The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.
07:20 The Lord sent a word into Jacob,
07:22 and it hath lighted upon Israel.
07:25 And all the people shall know,
07:26 even Ephraim and the inhabitant of Samaria,
07:30 that say in the pride and stoutness of heart,
07:34 the bricks are fallen down,
07:35 but we will build with hewn stones,
07:37 the sycamores are cut down,
07:39 but we will change them into cedars.
07:41 Therefore the Lord shall set up
07:43 the adversaries of Rezin against him,
07:46 and join his enemies together,
07:49 the Syrians before, and the Philistines behind,
07:52 and they shall devour Israel with open mouth.
07:56 For all this his anger is not turned away,
07:59 but his hand is stretched out still.
08:03 For the people turneth not unto him that smiteth them,
08:05 neither do they seek the Lord of hosts.
08:08 Therefore the Lord will cut off
08:10 from Israel head and tail,
08:12 branch and rush, in one day.
08:16 The ancient and honourable, he is the head,
08:20 and the prophet that teacheth lies,
08:22 he is the tail.
08:24 For the leaders of this people cause them to err,
08:27 and they that are led of them are destroyed.
08:31 Therefore the Lord shall have no joy in their young men,
08:34 neither shall have mercy
08:35 on their fatherless and widows,
08:37 for every one is an hypocrite and an evildoer,
08:40 and every mouth speaketh folly.
08:42 For all this his anger is not turned away,
08:46 but his hand is stretched out still.
08:50 For wickedness burneth as the fire,
08:52 it shall devour the briers and thorns,
08:54 and shall kindle in the thickets of the forest,
08:56 and they shall mount up like the lifting up of smoke.
09:00 Through the wrath of the Lord of hosts
09:02 is the land darkened,
09:03 and the people shall be as the fuel of the fire,
09:06 no man shall spare his brother.
09:09 And he shall snatch on the right hand,
09:12 and be hungry, and he shall eat on the left hand,
09:15 and they shall not be satisfied,
09:17 they shall eat every man the flesh of his own arm,
09:21 Manasseh, Ephraim, and Ephraim, Manasseh,
09:26 and they together shall be against Judah.
09:29 For all this his anger is not turned away,
09:33 but his hand is stretched out still."
09:37 Isaiah, Chapter 10.
09:40 This is the King James Version.
09:42 "Woe unto them that decree unrighteous decrees,
09:47 and that write grievousness which they have prescribed,
09:51 to turn aside the needy from judgment,
09:54 and to take away the right from the poor of my people,
09:56 that widows may be their prey,
09:58 and that they may rob the fatherless!
10:01 And what will ye do in the day of visitation,
10:03 and in the desolation which shall come from far?
10:06 To whom will ye flee for help?
10:08 Where will ye leave your glory?
10:11 Without me they shall bow down under the prisoners,
10:13 and they shall fall under the slain.
10:16 For all this his anger is not turned away,
10:19 but his hand is stretched out still.
10:22 O Assyrian, the rod of mine anger,
10:24 and the staff in their hand is mine indignation.
10:28 I will send him against an hypocritical nation,
10:30 and against the people of my wrath
10:32 will I give him a charge, to take the spoil,
10:34 to take the prey,
10:36 to tread them down like the mire of the streets.
10:39 Howbeit he meaneth not so,
10:42 neither doth his heart think so,
10:44 but it is in his heart to destroy
10:47 and cut off nations not a few.
10:49 For he saith, Are not my princes altogether kings?
10:54 Is not Calno as Carchemish?
10:57 Is not Hamath as Arpad?
10:59 Is not Samaria as Damascus?
11:02 As my hand hath found the kingdoms of the idols,
11:04 and whose graven images
11:06 did excel them of Jerusalem and of Samaria.
11:09 Shall I not, as I have done unto Samaria and her idols,
11:12 so do to Jerusalem and her idols?
11:15 Wherefore it shall come to pass,
11:16 that when the Lord hath performed his whole work
11:19 upon mount Zion and on Jerusalem,
11:21 I will punish the fruit of the stout heart
11:23 of the king of Assyria,
11:25 and the glory of his high looks.
11:27 For he saith, By the strength of my hand
11:29 I have done it, and by my wisdom,
11:31 for I am prudent,
11:33 and I have removed the bounds of the people,
11:35 and have robbed their treasures,
11:36 and I have put down the inhabitants
11:38 like a valiant man.
11:40 And my hand hath found as a nest
11:41 the riches of the people,
11:42 and as one gathereth eggs that are left,
11:44 have I gathered all the fruit,
11:46 there was none that moved the wing,
11:47 or opened the mouth, or peeped.
11:51 Shall the ax boast itself against him
11:53 that heweth therewith?
11:54 Or shall the saw magnify itself
11:57 against him that shaketh it?
11:59 As if the rod should shake itself against them
12:02 that lift it up,
12:03 or as if the staff should lift up itself,
12:05 as if it were no wood.
12:08 Therefore shall the Lord, the Lord of hosts,
12:11 send among his fat ones leanness,
12:14 and under his glory he shall kindle a burning
12:17 like the burning of a fire.
12:19 And the light of Israel shall be for a fire,
12:21 and his Holy One for a flame,
12:22 and it shall burn and devour his thorns
12:25 and his briers in one day,
12:27 and shall consume the glory of his forest,
12:29 and of his fruitful field, both soul and body,
12:32 and they shall be as when a standardbearer fainteth.
12:36 And the rest of the trees of his forest shall be few,
12:40 that a child may write them.
12:42 And it shall come to pass in that day,
12:44 that the remnant of Israel,
12:45 and such as are escaped of the house of Jacob,
12:49 shall no more again stay upon him that smote them,
12:52 but shall stay upon the Lord,
12:54 the Holy One of Israel, in truth.
12:57 The remnant shall return, even the remnant of Jacob,
13:00 unto the mighty God.
13:03 For though thy people Israel be as the sand of the sea,
13:05 yet a remnant of them shall return,
13:08 the consumption decreed
13:09 shall overflow with righteousness.
13:13 For the Lord God of hosts shall make a consumption,
13:15 even determined, in the midst of all the land.
13:18 Therefore saith the Lord God of hosts,
13:21 O my people that dwellest in Zion,
13:24 be not afraid of the Assyrian,
13:27 he shall smite thee with a rod,
13:28 and shall lift up his staff against thee,
13:30 after the manner of Egypt.
13:32 For yet a very little while,
13:34 and the indignation shall cease,
13:36 and mine anger in their destruction.
13:39 And the Lord of hosts shall stir up a scourge for him
13:42 according to the slaughter of Midian
13:44 at the rock of Oreb,
13:46 and as his rod was upon the sea,
13:48 so shall he lift it up after the manner of Egypt.
13:52 And it shall come to pass in that day,
13:54 that his burden shall be taken away from off thy shoulder,
13:57 and his yoke from off thy neck,
13:59 and the yoke shall be destroyed
14:01 because of the anointing.
14:03 He is come to Aiath, he is passed to Migron,
14:07 at Michmash he hath laid up his carriages.
14:09 They are gone over the passage,
14:11 they have taken up their lodging at Geba,
14:14 Ramah is afraid, Gibeah of Saul is fled.
14:18 Lift up thy voice, O daughter of Gallim,
14:21 cause it to be heard unto Laish, O poor Anathoth.
14:26 Madmenah is removed,
14:29 the inhabitants of Gebim gather themselves to flee.
14:33 As yet shall he remain at Nob that day,
14:35 he shall shake his hand
14:37 against the mount of the daughter of Zion,
14:39 the hill of Jerusalem."
