00:15 Hello and welcome back to "His Words Are Life."
00:17 I am Kelly Mowrer and today we are going
00:19 to be reading together in the Book of Isaiah.
00:22 But before we start let's pray.
00:25 Dear God, thank you so much for an opportunity
00:27 to hear the words that You spoke
00:31 so many thousands of years ago through Your prophet.
00:34 And as we read about them please show us today
00:36 where we like Jerusalem and Judah
00:39 have turned away from you
00:40 and where you are calling us back to Yourself.
00:43 Thank you, for loving us and for searching for us.
00:46 Help us to look for You with our whole heart, amen.
00:50 We're reading in Isaiah, Chapter 3
00:53 and we're picking up in verse 19,
00:56 where God has pronounced and is pronouncing
00:59 that the day is coming when He is going
01:01 to take away the pride of the people
01:04 who have turned their backs on Him.
01:06 So let's pick up in verse 19 of Isaiah, Chapter 3.
01:10 "The chains, and the bracelets,
01:12 and the mufflers, the bonnets,
01:15 and the ornaments of the legs,
01:16 and the headbands, and the tablets,
01:18 and the earrings, the rings, and nose jewels,
01:21 the changeable suits of apparel,
01:23 and the mantles, and the wimples,
01:25 and the crisping pins, the glasses,
01:27 and the fine linen, and the hoods, and the veils.
01:32 And it shall come to pass,
01:33 that instead of sweet smell there shall be stink,
01:38 and instead of a girdle a rent,
01:41 and instead of well set hair baldness,
01:46 and instead of a stomacher a girding of sackcloth,
01:50 and burning instead of beauty.
01:54 Thy men shall fall by the sword,
01:57 and thy mighty in the war.
02:00 And her gates shall lament and mourn,
02:03 and she being desolate shall sit upon the ground."
02:08 Continuing in the Book of Isaiah, Chapter 4,
02:10 and this is the King James Version.
02:13 "And in that day seven women shall take hold of one man,
02:16 saying, we will eat our own bread,
02:18 and wear our own apparel,
02:19 only let us be called by thy name,
02:21 to take away our reproach.
02:24 In that day shall the branch of the Lord
02:26 be beautiful and glorious,
02:27 and the fruit of the earth shall be excellent
02:29 and comely for them that are escaped of Israel.
02:34 And it shall come to pass, that he that is left in Zion,
02:38 and he that remaineth in Jerusalem,
02:40 shall be called holy, even every one
02:43 that is written among the living in Jerusalem.
02:46 When the Lord shall have washed away
02:48 the filth of the daughters of Zion,
02:50 and shall have purged the blood of Jerusalem
02:53 from the midst thereof by the spirit of judgment,
02:55 and by the spirit of burning.
02:57 And the Lord will create
02:58 upon every dwelling place of mount Zion,
03:00 and upon her assemblies, a cloud and smoke by day,
03:03 and the shining of a flaming fire by night,
03:06 for upon all the glory shall be a defense.
03:09 And there shall be a tabernacle for a shadow
03:12 in the daytime from the heat, and for a place of refuge,
03:16 and for a covert from storm and from rain."
03:20 Continuing in Isaiah, Chapter 5,
03:22 and this is the King James Version.
03:25 "Now will I sing to my wellbeloved
03:29 a song of my beloved touching his vineyard.
03:33 My wellbeloved hath a vineyard in a very fruitful hill.
03:37 And he fenced it, and gathered out the stones thereof,
03:40 and planted it with the choicest vine,
03:43 and built a tower in the midst of it,
03:44 and also made a winepress therein,
03:46 and he looked that it should bring forth grapes,
03:50 and it brought forth wild grapes.
03:53 And now, O inhabitants of Jerusalem,
03:55 and men of Judah, judge, I pray you,
03:57 betwixt me and my vineyard.
04:00 What could have been done more to my vineyard,
04:03 that I have not done in it?
04:05 Wherefore, when I looked that it should bring forth grapes,
04:09 brought it forth wild grapes?
04:11 And now go to, I will tell you
04:13 what I will do to my vineyard,
04:15 I will take away the hedge thereof,
04:17 and it shall be eaten up,
04:19 and break down the wall thereof,
04:21 and it shall be trodden down.
04:23 And I will lay it waste, it shall not be pruned,
04:26 nor digged, but there shall come up briers and thorns,
04:31 I will also command the clouds
04:32 that they rain no rain upon it.
04:35 For the vineyard of the Lord of hosts
04:38 is the house of Israel,
04:40 and the men of Judah his pleasant plant.
04:43 And he looked for judgment, but behold oppression,
04:48 for righteousness, but behold a cry.
04:53 Woe unto them that join house to house,
04:57 that lay field to field, till there be no place
05:00 that they may be placed alone in the midst of the earth!
05:04 In mine ears said the Lord of hosts,
05:06 of a truth many houses shall be desolate,
05:09 even great and fair, without inhabitant.
05:13 Yea, ten acres of vineyard shall yield one bath,
05:16 and the seed of an homer shall yield an ephah.
05:20 Woe unto them that rise up early in the morning,
05:22 that they may follow strong drink,
05:25 that continue until night, till wine inflame them!
05:28 And the harp, and the viol, the tabret,
05:31 and pipe, and wine, are in their feasts,
05:34 but they regard not the work of the Lord,
05:37 neither consider the operation of his hands.
05:40 Therefore my people are gone into captivity,
05:42 because they have no knowledge,
05:45 and their honorable men are famished,
05:47 and their multitude dried up with thirst.
05:51 Therefore hell hath enlarged herself,
05:53 and opened to her mouth without measure
05:56 and their glory, and their multitude,
05:59 and their pomp, and he that rejoiceth,
06:02 shall descend into it.
06:05 And the mean man shall be brought down,
06:07 and the mighty man shall be humbled,
06:10 and the eyes of the lofty shall be humbled.
06:12 But the Lord of hosts shall be exalted in judgment,
06:15 and God that is holy shall be sanctified in righteousness.
06:21 Then shall the lambs feed after their manner,
06:23 and the waste places of the fat ones shall strangers eat
06:28 Woe unto them that draw iniquity with cords of vanity,
06:32 and sin as it were with a cart rope that say,
06:37 Let him make speed, and hasten his work,
06:39 that we may see it, and let the counsel
06:42 of the Holy One of Israel draw nigh and come,
06:46 that we may know it.
06:48 Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil
06:53 that put darkness for light, and light for darkness
06:56 that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!
07:02 Woe unto them that are wise in their own eyes,
07:06 and prudent in their own sight!
07:10 Woe unto them that are mighty to drink wine,
07:13 and men of strength to mingle strong drink
07:15 which justify the wicked for reward,
07:17 and take away the righteousness
07:19 of the righteous from him!
07:21 Therefore as the fire devoureth the stubble,
07:24 and the flame consumeth the chaff,
07:27 so their root shall be as rottenness,
07:30 and their blossom shall go up as dust
07:33 because they have cast away the law of the Lord of hosts,
07:36 and despised the word of the Holy One of Israel.
07:41 Therefore is the anger of the Lord
07:43 kindled against his people,
07:44 and he hath stretched forth His hand against them,
07:47 and hath smitten them and the hills did tremble,
07:50 and their carcases were torn in the midst of the streets.
07:54 For all this his anger is not turned away,
07:57 but his hand is stretched out still.
08:01 And he will lift up an ensign to the nations from far,
08:04 and will hiss unto them from the end of the earth
08:06 and, behold, they shall come with speed swiftly.
08:11 None shall be weary nor stumble among them
08:13 none shall slumber nor sleep,
08:14 neither shall the girdle of their loins be loosed,
08:17 nor the latchet of their shoes be broken.
08:20 Whose arrows are sharp, and all their bows bent,
08:23 their horses' hoofs shall be counted like flint,
08:26 and their wheels like a whirlwind.
08:28 Their roaring shall be like a lion,
08:30 and they shall roar like young lions
08:32 yea, they shall roar, and lay hold of the prey,
08:34 and shall carry it away safe,
08:36 and none shall deliver it.
08:39 And in that day they shall roar against them
08:42 like the roaring of the sea
08:44 and if one look unto the land, behold darkness and sorrow,
08:49 and the light is darkened in the heavens thereof."
08:54 We're continuing with the Book of Isaiah, Chapter 6,
08:57 this is the King James Version.
08:59 "In the year that king Uzziah died
09:02 I saw also the Lord sitting upon a throne,
09:07 high and lifted up, and his train filled the temple.
09:12 Above it stood the seraphims, each one had six wings
09:16 with twain he covered his face,
09:18 and with twain he covered his feet,
09:20 and with twain he did fly.
09:22 And one cried unto another, and said,
09:25 Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord of hosts
09:28 the whole earth is full of his glory.
09:32 And the posts of the door moved
09:34 at the voice of him that cried,
09:35 and the house was filled with smoke.
09:39 Then said I, Woe is me!
09:41 For I am undone because I am a man of unclean lips,
09:46 and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips
09:50 for mine eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts.
09:55 Then flew one of the seraphims unto me,
09:58 having a live coal in his hand,
10:01 which he had taken with the tongs from off the altar.
10:05 And he laid it upon my mouth,
10:07 and said, Lo, this hath touched thy lips
10:11 and thine iniquity is taken away, and thy sin purged.
10:16 Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying,
10:19 Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?
10:24 Then said I, Here am I, send me.
10:29 And he said, Go, and tell this people,
10:32 Hear ye indeed, but understand not
10:36 and see ye indeed, but perceive not.
10:39 Make the heart of this people fat,
10:40 and make their ears heavy, and shut their eyes
10:43 lest they see with their eyes,
10:44 and hear with their ears,
10:46 and understand with their heart,
10:47 and convert, and be healed.
10:51 Then said I, Lord, how long?
10:54 And he answered, Until the cities be wasted
10:57 without inhabitant, and the houses without man,
11:00 and the land be utterly desolate.
11:03 And the Lord have removed men far away,
11:04 and there be a great forsaking in the midst of the land.
11:07 But yet in it shall be a tenth,
11:11 and it shall return, and shall be eaten
11:14 as a teil tree, and as an oak,
11:16 whose substance is in them, when they cast their leaves
11:20 so the holy seed shall be the substance thereof."
11:25 Continuing with Isaiah, Chapter 7,
11:27 and this is the King James Version.
11:30 "And it came to pass in the days of Ahaz
11:32 the son of Jotham, the son of Uzziah, king of Judah,
11:36 that Rezin the king of Syria,
11:38 and Pekah the son of Remaliah,
11:40 king of Israel, went up toward Jerusalem to war against it,
11:45 but could not prevail against it.
11:47 And it was told the house of David,
11:49 saying, Syria is confederate with Ephraim.
11:53 And His heart was moved, and the heart of His people,
11:55 as the trees of the wood are moved with the wind.
11:59 Then said the Lord unto Isaiah,
12:01 go forth now to meet Ahaz, thou, and Shearjashub thy son,
12:08 at the end of the conduit of the upper pool in the highway
12:10 of the fuller's field and say unto him,
12:13 Take heed, and be quiet,
12:16 fear not, neither be fainthearted
12:19 for the two tails of these smoking firebrands,
12:22 for the fierce anger of Rezin with Syria,
12:25 and of the son of Remaliah.
12:27 Because Syria, Ephraim, and the son of Remaliah,
12:31 have taken evil counsel against thee,
12:32 saying, let us go up against Judah,
12:34 and vex it, and let us make a breach therein for us,
12:37 and set a king in the midst of it,
12:39 even the son of Tabeal.
12:42 Thus saith the Lord God, It shall not stand,
12:45 neither shall it come to pass.
12:48 For the head of Syria is Damascus,
12:50 and the head of Damascus is Rezin
12:51 and within threescore and five years shall Ephraim be broken,
12:56 that it be not a people.
12:59 And the head of Ephraim is Samaria,
13:00 and the head of Samaria is Remaliah's son.
13:04 If ye will not believe,
13:06 surely ye shall not be established.
13:08 Moreover the Lord spake again unto Ahaz,
13:11 saying, Ask thee a sign of the Lord thy God
13:14 ask it either in the depth, or in the height above.
13:19 But Ahaz said, I will not ask,
13:22 neither will I tempt the Lord.
13:25 And he said, Hear ye now, O house of David
13:28 Is it a small thing for you to weary men,
13:32 but will ye weary my God also?
13:35 Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign
13:38 Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son,
13:43 and shall call his name Immanuel.
13:45 Butter and honey shall he eat,
13:48 that he may know to refuse the evil,
13:50 and choose the good.
13:52 For before the child shall know to refuse the evil,
13:55 and choose the good, the land that thou abhorrest
13:58 shall be forsaken of both her kings.
14:02 The Lord shall bring upon thee,
14:03 and upon thy people, and upon thy father's house,
14:05 days that have not come from the day
14:08 that Ephraim departed from Judah
14:10 even the king of Assyria.
14:12 And it shall come to pass in that day,
14:14 that the Lord shall hiss for the fly
14:16 that is in the uttermost part of the rivers of Egypt,
14:19 and for the bee that is in the land of Assyria.
14:22 And they shall come, and shall rest all of them
14:24 in the desolate valleys, and in the holes of the rocks,
14:27 and upon all thorns, and upon all bushes.
14:30 In the same day shall the Lord shave
14:31 with a razor that is hired, namely,
14:34 by them beyond the river, by the king of Assyria."
