00:15 Hello, and welcome to His Words Are Life.
00:17 I'm Kelly Mowrer, and today we're going to be reading
00:20 together in the book of Proverbs.
00:21 But before we start, let's pray.
00:23 Dear Father, Thank You so much for the opportunity to
00:29 step apart from the different things that we each have
00:33 going on in our lives, and to listen to Your words,
00:37 and to spend a few minutes worshipping You.
00:41 Please send Your Spirit to guide our ears as we hear,
00:46 and to plant Your words in our hearts to bear fruit.
00:49 We love You so much, and thank You for loving us.
00:52 Amen.
00:53 Reading in the book of Proverbs.
00:56 We're starting in chapter 15, with verse 31,
01:00 and this is the King James Version.
01:01 The ear that heareth the reproof of life
01:06 abideth among the wise.
01:08 He that refuseth instruction despiseth his own soul:
01:12 but he that heareth reproof getteth understanding.
01:16 The fear of the Lord is the instruction of wisdom;
01:19 and before honor is humility.
01:22 Proverbs 16.
01:25 The preparations of the heart in man,
01:29 and the answer of the tongue, is from the Lord.
01:31 All the ways of a man are clean in his own eyes;
01:35 but the Lord weigheth the spirits.
01:38 Commit thy works unto the Lord, and thy thoughts
01:42 shall be established.
01:43 The Lord hath made all things for himself: yea,
01:47 even the wicked for the day of evil.
01:49 Every one that is proud in heart is an abomination to the Lord:
01:55 though hand join in hand, he shall not be unpunished.
01:59 By mercy and truth iniquity is purged: and by the fear of
02:04 the Lord men depart from evil.
02:06 When a man's ways please the Lord, he maketh even his enemies
02:12 to be at peace with him.
02:14 Better is a little with righteousness than great
02:18 revenues without right.
02:21 A man's heart deviseth his way: but the Lord
02:24 directeth his steps.
02:26 A divine sentence is in the lips of the king:
02:29 his mouth transgresseth not in judgment.
02:33 A just weight and balance are the Lord's: all the weights
02:38 of the bag are his work.
02:40 It is an abomination to kings to commit wickedness:
02:44 for the throne is established by righteousness.
02:47 Righteous lips are the delight of kings;
02:49 and they love him that speaketh right.
02:51 The wrath of a king is as messengers of death:
02:55 but a wise man will pacify it.
02:58 In the light of the king's countenance is life;
03:02 and his favor is as a cloud of the latter rain.
03:06 How much better is it to get wisdom than gold!
03:11 and to get understanding rather to be chosen than silver!
03:15 The highway of the upright is to depart from evil:
03:19 he that keepeth his way preserveth his soul.
03:22 Pride goeth before destruction, and a haughty spirit
03:28 before a fall.
03:29 Better it is to be of an humble spirit with the lowly,
03:33 than to divide the spoil with the proud.
03:37 He that handleth a matter wisely shall find good:
03:41 and whoso trusteth in the Lord, happy is he.
03:45 The wise in heart shall be called prudent:
03:48 and the sweetness of the lips increaseth learning.
03:50 Understanding is a wellspring of life unto him that hath it:
03:55 but the instruction of fools is folly.
03:58 The heart of the wise teacheth his mouth,
04:01 and addeth learning to his lips.
04:03 Pleasant words are as an honeycomb, sweet to the soul,
04:08 and health to the bones.
04:09 There is a way that seemeth right unto a man,
04:13 but the end thereof are the ways of death.
04:15 He that laboreth laboreth for himself;
04:19 for his mouth craveth it of him.
04:21 An ungodly man diggeth up evil: and in his lips there is
04:26 as a burning fire.
04:28 A froward man soweth strife: and a whisperer separateth
04:33 chief friends.
04:34 A violent man enticeth his neighbor,
04:37 and leadeth him into the way that is not good.
04:40 He shutteth his eyes to devise froward things:
04:43 moving his lips he bringeth evil to pass.
04:46 The hoary head is a crown of glory; if it be found
04:50 in the way of righteousness.
04:52 He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty;
04:57 and he that ruleth his spirit than he that taketh a city.
05:03 The lot is cast into the lap; but the whole disposing thereof
05:08 is of the Lord.
05:10 Proverbs 17, and this is the King James Version.
05:14 Better is a dry morsel, and quietness therewith,
05:20 than an house full of sacrifices with strife.
05:24 A wise servant shall have rule over a son that causeth shame,
05:29 and shall have part of the inheritance among the brethren.
05:31 The refining pot is for silver, and the furnace for gold:
05:36 but the Lord trieth the hearts.
05:40 A wicked doer giveth heed to false lips;
05:44 and a liar giveth ear to a naughty tongue.
05:47 Whoso mocketh the poor reproacheth his Maker:
05:52 and he that is glad at calamities shall not
05:55 be unpunished.
05:56 Children's children are the crown of old men;
06:00 and the glory of children are their fathers.
06:03 Excellent speech becometh not a fool: much less do lying
06:09 lips a prince.
06:11 A gift is as a precious stone in the eyes of him that hath it:
06:16 whithersoever it turneth, it prospereth.
06:19 He that covereth a transgression seeketh love;
06:22 but he that repeateth a matter separateth very friends.
06:27 A reproof entereth more into a wise man than an hundred stripes
06:33 into a fool.
06:34 An evil man seeketh only rebellion: therefore a cruel
06:39 messenger shall be sent against him.
06:40 Let a bear robbed of her whelps meet a man,
06:45 rather than a fool in his folly.
06:47 Whoso rewardeth evil for good, evil shall not depart
06:50 from his house.
06:51 The beginning of strife is as when one letteth out water:
06:56 therefore leave off contention, before it be meddled with.
07:01 He that justifieth the wicked, and he that condemneth the just,
07:06 even they both are abomination to the Lord.
07:09 Wherefore is there a price in the hand of a fool
07:14 to get wisdom, seeing he hath no heart to it?
07:16 A friend loveth at all times, and a brother is born
07:21 for adversity.
07:22 A man void of understanding striketh hands,
07:26 and becometh surety in the presence of his friend.
07:29 He loveth transgression that loveth strife:
07:32 and he that exalteth his gate seeketh destruction.
07:36 He that hath a froward heart findeth no good:
07:39 and he that hath a perverse tongue falleth into mischief.
07:42 He that begetteth a fool doeth it to his sorrow:
07:46 and the father of a fool hath no joy.
07:49 A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit
07:55 drieth the bones.
07:56 A wicked man taketh a gift out of the bosom to pervert
08:00 the ways of judgment.
08:02 Wisdom is before him that hath understanding;
08:04 but the eyes of a fool are in the ends of the earth.
08:07 A foolish son is a grief to his father, and bitterness to her
08:13 that bare him.
08:14 Also to punish the just is not good, nor to strike
08:19 princes for equity.
08:20 He that hath knowledge spareth his words:
08:25 and a man of understanding is of an excellent spirit.
08:29 Even a fool, when he holdeth his peace, is counted wise:
08:33 and he that shutteth his lips is esteemed a man of understanding.
08:38 Reading from Proverbs chapter 18.
08:42 Through desire a man, having separated himself,
08:47 seeketh and intermeddleth with all wisdom.
08:51 A fool hath no delight in understanding,
08:53 but that his heart may discover itself.
08:56 When the wicked cometh, then cometh also contempt,
09:00 and with ignominy reproach.
09:01 The words of a man's mouth are as deep waters,
09:05 and the wellspring of wisdom as a flowing brook.
09:08 It is not good to accept the person of the wicked,
09:11 to overthrow the righteous in judgment.
09:14 A fool's lips enter into contention, and his mouth
09:18 calleth for strokes.
09:19 A fool's mouth is his destruction, and his lips
09:22 are the snare of his soul.
09:24 The words of a talebearer are as wounds,
09:27 and they go down into the innermost parts of the belly.
09:31 He also that is slothful in his work is brother to him
09:35 that is a great waster.
09:37 The name of the Lord is a strong tower:
09:41 the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.
09:45 The rich man's wealth is his strong city,
09:48 and as an high wall in his own conceit.
09:51 Before destruction the heart of man is haughty,
09:54 and before honor is humility.
09:56 He that answereth a matter before he heareth it,
10:00 it is folly and shame unto him.
10:03 The spirit of a man will sustain his infirmity;
10:06 but a wounded spirit who can bear?
10:09 The heart of the prudent getteth knowledge; and the ear of the
10:14 wise seeketh knowledge.
10:15 A man's gift maketh room for him, and bringeth him
10:18 before great men.
10:19 He that is first in his own cause seemeth just;
10:24 but his neighbor cometh and searcheth him.
10:27 The lot causeth contentions to cease,
10:31 and parteth between the mighty.
10:33 A brother offended is harder to be won than a strong city:
10:38 and their contentions are like the bars of a castle.
10:41 A man's belly shall be satisfied with the fruit of his mouth;
10:46 and with the increase of his lips shall he be filled.
10:49 Death and life are in the power of the tongue:
10:54 and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.
10:58 Whoso findeth a wife findeth a good thing,
11:03 and obtaineth favor of the Lord.
11:05 The poor useth entreaties; but the rich answereth roughly.
11:11 A man that hath friends must show himself friendly:
11:15 and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.
11:19 Proverbs chapter 19; this is the King James Version.
11:23 Better is the poor that walketh in his integrity,
11:28 than he that is perverse in his lips, and is a fool.
11:32 Also, that the soul be without knowledge, it is not good;
11:36 and he that hasteth with his feet sinneth.
11:40 The foolishness of a man perverteth his way:
11:43 and his heart fretteth against the Lord.
11:45 Wealth maketh many friends; but the poor is separated
11:49 from his neighbor.
11:50 A false witness shall not be unpunished,
11:53 and he that speaketh lies shall not escape.
11:57 Many will entreat the favor of the prince:
12:00 and every man is a friend to him that giveth gifts.
12:02 All the brethren of the poor do hate him:
12:05 how much more do his friends go far from him?
12:08 he pursueth them with words, yet they are wanting to him.
12:12 He that getteth wisdom loveth his own soul:
12:16 he that keepeth understanding shall find good.
12:21 A false witness shall not be unpunished,
12:24 and he that speaketh lies shall perish.
12:27 Delight is not seemly for a fool; much less for a servant
12:32 to have rule over princes.
12:34 The discretion of a man deferreth his anger;
12:38 and it is his glory to pass over a transgression.
12:41 The king's wrath is as the roaring of a lion;
12:45 but his favor is as dew upon the grass.
12:49 A foolish son is the calamity of his father:
12:52 and the contentions of a wife are a continual dropping.
12:57 House and riches are the inheritance of fathers:
13:01 and a prudent wife is from the Lord.
13:05 Slothfulness casteth into a deep sleep;
13:08 and an idle soul shall suffer hunger.
13:11 He that keepeth the commandment keepeth his own soul;
13:16 but he that despiseth his ways shall die.
13:20 He that hath pity upon the poor lendeth unto the Lord;
13:25 and that which he hath given will he pay him again.
13:29 Chasten thy son while there is hope, and let not thy soul
13:33 spare for his crying.
13:35 A man of great wrath shall suffer punishment:
13:39 for if thou deliver him yet thou must do it again.
13:41 Hear counsel, and receive instruction, that thou mayest
13:45 be wise in thy latter end.
13:48 There are many devices in a man's heart,
13:50 nevertheless the counsel of the Lord, that shall stand.
13:55 The desire of a man is his kindness: and a poor man
13:59 is better than a liar.
14:00 The fear of the Lord tendeth to life: and he that hath it
14:05 shall abide satisfied; he shall not be visited with evil.
14:09 A slothful man hideth his hand in his bosom,
14:12 and will not so much as bring it to his mouth again.
14:15 Smite a scorner, and the simple will beware:
14:18 and reprove one that hath understanding,
14:21 and he will understand knowledge.
14:23 He that wasteth his father, and chaseth away his mother,
14:27 is a son that causeth shame, and bringeth reproach.
14:30 Cease, my son, to hear the instruction that causeth to err
14:35 from the words of knowledge.
