00:15 Hi, and welcome back to His Words are Life.
00:18 I'm Kelly Mowrer, and thank you for joining with me today to
00:21 read the Bible together. Let's pray before we start.
00:26 Dear Lord, thank you again for bringing us apart from
00:30 the duties of our day, to come into your presence
00:34 especially right now to hear your word.
00:36 Please send your Holy Spirit to guide our thoughts,
00:40 to understand the lesson you have for us here.
00:43 We love you and thank you for loving us. Amen.
00:46 We're reading in 2nd Chronicles, chapter 34, beginning with
00:51 verse 31, and this is the King James Version.
00:54 And the king stood in his place and made a covenant before the
00:59 Lord, to walk after the Lord, to walk after the Lord,
01:02 and to keep his commandments, and his testimonies,
01:04 and his statutes, with all his heart, and with all his soul,
01:09 to perform the words of the covenant which are written
01:13 in this book. And he caused all that were present in Jerusalem
01:17 and Benjamin to stand to it. And the inhabitants of Jerusalem
01:22 did according to the covenant of God the God of their fathers.
01:26 And Josiah took away all the abominations out of all the
01:30 countries that pertained to the children of Israel, and made all
01:34 that were present in Israel to serve, even to serve the Lord
01:38 their God. And all his days they departed not from following
01:43 the Lord, the God of their fathers.
01:46 Continuing in 2nd Chronicles, chapter 35, this is the
01:51 King James Version. Moreover Josiah kept a passover
01:56 unto the Lord in Jerusalem: and they killed the passover
01:59 on the 14th day of the 1st month And he set the priests in their
02:03 charges and encouraged them to the service of the house of the
02:07 Lord and said unto the Levites that taught all Israel,
02:10 which were holy unto the Lord, Put the holy ark in the house
02:15 which Solomon son of David, king of Israel did build;
02:18 it shall not be a burden upon your shoulders:
02:21 serve now the Lord your God, and his people Israel,
02:24 and prepare yourselves by the houses of your fathers,
02:27 after your courses, according to the writing of David
02:31 king of Israel, and according to the writing of Solomon
02:33 his son, and stand in the holy place according to the divisions
02:38 of the families of the fathers of your brethren the people,
02:40 and after the division of the families of the Levites.
02:44 So Kill the passover and sanctify yourselves,
02:47 and prepare your brethren that they may do according to the
02:51 word of the Lord by the hand of Moses.
02:53 And Josiah gave to the people, of the flock, lambs and kids,
02:58 all for the passover offerings, for all that were present,
03:01 to the number of 30,000 and 3000 bullocks:
03:05 these were of the king's substance. And his princes gave
03:09 willingly unto the people, to the priests, and to the Levites:
03:13 Hilkiah and Zechariah and Jehiel rulers of the house of God,
03:17 gave unto the priests for the passover offerings
03:21 two thousand and six hundred small cattle, and 300 oxen.
03:25 Conaniah also, and Shemaiah and Nethaneel, his brethren,
03:30 Hashabiah and Jehiel and Jozabad, chief of the Levites,
03:34 gave unto the Levites for the passover offerings five thousand
03:38 small cattle and five hundred oxen.
03:40 So the service was prepared, and the priest stood in their
03:44 place, and the Levites in their courses, according to the king's
03:47 commandment. And they killed the passover, and the priests
03:50 sprinkled the blood from their hands, and the Levites
03:53 flayed them. And they removed the burnt offerings,
03:56 that they might give according to the divisions of the families
03:59 of the people, to offer unto the Lord, as it is written
04:03 in the book of Moses. And so did they with the oxen.
04:06 And they roasted the passover with fire according to the
04:10 ordinance: but the other holy offerings sod they in pots,
04:14 and in caldrons, and in pans, and divided them speedily
04:17 among all the people. And afterward they made ready
04:20 for themselves, and for the priests: because the priests
04:22 the sons of Aaron were busied in offering of burnt offerings
04:26 and the fat until night; therefore the Levites
04:29 prepared for themselves, and for the priests the sons of
04:32 Aaron. And the singers the sons of Asaph were in their place,
04:37 according to the commandment of David, and Asaph, and Heman,
04:40 and Jeduthun the king's seer; and the porters waited at every
04:46 gate; they might not depart from their service for their brethren
04:50 the Levites prepared for them. So all the service of the Lord
04:54 was prepared the same day, to keep the passover,
04:56 and to offer burnt offerings upon the altar of the Lord,
04:59 according to the commandment of king Josiah.
05:02 And the children of Israel that were present kept the passover
05:07 at that time, and the feast of unleavened bread seven days.
05:11 And there was no passover like to that kept in Israel from the
05:16 days of Samuel the prophet: neither did all the kings of
05:19 Israel keep such a passover as Josiah kept, and the priests,
05:23 and the Levites, and all Judah and Israel that were present,
05:26 and the inhabitants of Jerusalem.
05:28 In the 18th year of the reign of Josiah was this passover kept
05:33 After all this, when Josiah had prepared the temple, Necho
05:39 king of Egypt came up to fight against Carchemish
05:42 by Euphrates: and Josiah went out against him.
05:45 But he sent ambassadors to him, saying, What have I to do with
05:50 thee, thou king of Judah? I come not against thee this day, but
05:54 against the house wherewith I have war: for God commanded
05:57 me to make haste: forbear thee from meddling with God,
06:01 who is with me, that he destroy thee not. Nevertheless Josiah
06:07 would not turn his face from him but disguised himself,
06:11 that he might fight with him, and hearkened not unto the words
06:15 of Necho from the mouth of God, and came to fight in the valley
06:20 of Megiddo. And the archers shot at king Josiah; and the king
06:26 said to his servants, Have me away; for I am sore wounded.
06:29 His servants therefore took him out of that chariot,
06:33 and put him in the 2nd chariot that he had; and they brought
06:35 him to Jerusalem, and he died, and was buried in one of the
06:40 sepulchers of his fathers. And all Judah and Jerusalem mourned
06:45 for Josiah: And Jeremiah lamented for Josiah:
06:49 and all the singing men and the singing women
06:52 spake of Josiah in their lamentations to this day,
06:56 and made them an ordinance in Israel: and, behold,
06:59 they are written in the lamentations.
07:01 Now the rest of the acts of Josiah, and his goodness,
07:06 according to that which was written in the law of the Lord,
07:09 and his deeds, first and last, behold, they are written
07:13 in the book of the kings of Israel and Judah.
07:16 Continuing now with 2nd Chronicles, chapter 36
07:20 This is the King James Version. Then the people of the land
07:24 took Jehoahaz the son of Josiah, and made him king
07:29 in his father's stead in Jerusalem,
07:31 Jehoahaz was twenty and three years old when he began to
07:35 reign, and he reigned three months in Jerusalem.
07:37 And the king of Egypt put him down at Jerusalem,
07:40 and condemned the land in an hundred talents of silver
07:44 and a talent of gold. And the king of Egypt made Eliakim
07:48 his brother king over Judah and Jerusalem,
07:50 and turned his name to Jehoiakim and Necho took Jehoahaz
07:56 his brother and carried him to Egypt. Jehoiakim was 25 years
08:01 old when he began to reign, and he reigned eleven years
08:04 in Jerusalem: and he did that which was evil in the sight
08:07 of the Lord his God. Against him came up Nebuchadnezzar
08:11 king of Babylon, and bound him in fetters, to carry him
08:15 to Babylon. Nebuchadnezzar also carried of the vessels of
08:19 the house of the Lord to Babylon and put them in his temple
08:22 at Babylon. Now the rest of the acts of Jehoiakim,
08:25 and his abominations which he did, and that which was found
08:29 in him, behold, they are written in the book of the kings of
08:31 Israel and Judah. And Jehoiachin his son
08:35 reigned in his stead. Jehoiachin was 8 years old when he began
08:40 to reign, and he reigned three months and ten days in Jerusalem
08:43 and he did that which was evil in the sight of the Lord.
08:46 And when the year was expired, king Nebuchadnezzar sent,
08:49 and brought him to Babylon with the goodly vessels of the house
08:53 of the Lord, and made Zedekiah his brother king over Judah
08:57 and Jerusalem. Zedekiah was one and twenty years old when
09:01 he began to reign, and reigned 11 years in Jerusalem.
09:05 and he did that which was evil in the sight of the Lord his God
09:09 and humbled not himself before Jeremiah the prophet
09:13 speaking from the mouth of the Lord. And he also rebelled
09:17 against king Nebuchadnezzar, who had made him swear by God:
09:20 but he stiffened his neck, and hardened his heart from turning
09:25 unto the Lord God of Israel. Moreover all the chief of the
09:31 priests, and the people, transgressed very much
09:34 after all the abominations of the heathen; and polluted
09:38 the house of the Lord which he had hallowed in Jerusalem.
09:41 And the Lord God of their fathers sent to them
09:44 by his messengers, rising up betimes, and sending;
09:48 because he had compassion on his people, and on his dwelling
09:52 place: But they mocked the messengers of God,
09:56 and despised his words, and misused his prophets,
09:59 until the wrath of the Lord arose against his people,
10:03 til there was no remedy. Therefore he brought upon them
10:07 the king of the Chaldees who slew their young men with the
10:11 sword in the house of their sanctuary, and had no compassion
10:15 upon young man or maiden, old man, or him that stooped
10:19 for age: he gave them all into his hand.
10:22 And all the vessels of the house of God, great and small
10:26 and the treasures of the house of the Lord, and the treasures
10:29 of the king, and of his princes; all these he brought to Babylon.
10:33 And they burnt the house of God, and brake down the wall
10:37 of Jerusalem, and burnt all the palaces thereof with fire,
10:41 and destroyed all the goodly vessels thereof.
10:44 And them that had escaped from the sword carried he away
10:48 to Babylon; where they were servants to him and his sons
10:51 until the reign of the kingdom of Persia: to fulfill the word
10:55 of the Lord by the mouth of Jeremiah, until the land
10:58 had enjoyed her sabbaths: for as long as she lay desolate
11:01 she kept sabbath, to fulfill threescore and ten years.
11:05 Now in the first year of Cyrus king of Persia,
11:10 that the word of the Lord spoken by the mouth of Jeremiah
11:14 might be accomplished, the Lord stirred up the spirit of Cyrus
11:18 king of Persia, that he made a proclamation throughout
11:22 all his kingdom, and put it also in writing, saying,
11:25 thus saith Cyrus king of Persia, All the kingdoms of the earth
11:30 hath the Lord God of heaven given me; and he hath charged
11:35 me to build him an house in Jerusalem, which is in Judah.
11:37 Who is there among you of all his people?
11:41 The Lord his God be with him, and let him go up.
11:45 We're continuing now with the book of Ezra,
11:51 chapter one, and this is the King James Version.
11:54 Now in the first year of Cyrus king of Persia,
12:00 that the word of the Lord by the mouth of Jeremiah
12:03 might be fulfilled, the Lord stirred up the spirit of Cyrus
12:07 king of Persia, that he made a proclamation throughout all
12:10 his kingdom, and put it also in writing, saying,
12:13 Thus saith Cyrus king of Persia, The Lord God of heaven
12:18 hath given me all the kingdoms of the earth;
12:20 and he hath charged me to build him an house at Jerusalem,
12:24 which is in Judah. Who is there among you of all his people?
12:28 His God be with him and let him go up to Jerusalem
12:31 which is in Judah, and build the house of the Lord God of Israel,
12:35 - he is the God, - which is in Jerusalem. And whosoever
12:40 remaineth in any place where he sojourneth, let the men of his
12:43 place help him with silver, and with gold, and with goods,
12:47 and with beasts, beside the freewill offering for the house
12:50 of God that is in Jerusalem. Then rose up the chief of the
12:55 fathers of Judah and Benjamin, and the priests, and the Levites
12:58 with all them whose spirit God had raised, to go up to build
13:03 the house of the Lord which is in Jerusalem. And all they
13:07 that were about them strengthened their hands
13:11 with vessels of silver, with gold, with goods,
13:14 and with beasts, and with precious things, beside all
13:18 that was willingly offered. Also Cyrus the king brought forth
13:22 the vessels of the house of the Lord, which Nebuchadnezzar
13:25 had brought forth out of Jerusalem, and had put them
13:27 in the house of his gods; Even those did Cyrus king of Persia
13:31 bring forth by the hand of Mithredath the treasurer,
13:34 and numbered them unto Sheshbazzar the prince of Judah.
13:39 And this is the number of them: 30 chargers of gold,
13:42 a thousand chargers of silver, nine and twenty knives,
13:47 30 basins of gold, silver basins of a second sort, 410,
13:52 and other vessels a thousand. All the vessels of gold and of
13:57 silver were five thousand and four hundred.
14:00 All these did Sheshbazzar bring up with them of the captivity
14:06 that were brought up from Babylon unto Jerusalem.
14:10 We're continuing with Ezra, chapter 2,
14:14 this is the King James Version. Now these are the children of
14:19 the province that went up out of the captivity, of those which
14:23 had been carried away whom Nebuchadnezzar the king of
14:26 Babylon had carried away unto Babylon, and came again
14:31 unto Jerusalem and Judah, every one unto his city;
14:35 Thank you for joining with me today to read the word of God.
14:38 Goodbye.
