00:16 Hello, and welcome back to His Words are Life.
00:18 I'm Kelly Mowrer and thank you for coming aside to read
00:22 the bible with me now. Before we begin, let's pray together.
00:25 Dear Heavenly Father, thank you again for an opportunity to
00:31 step apart from our lives and sit in Your presence and hear
00:36 your word. Please be with us now as we read. That we won't
00:40 just hear the word, but that it will go deep and bear fruit
00:42 to your glory. We love you so much and thank you for loving us
00:46 Amen. We're reading in the book of 1st Kings and Solomon has
00:52 completed the temple that he was building for God,
00:56 for the ark and for the presence of God to be with Israel.
01:00 And he is praying. When we were last together we were in
01:03 the middle of Solomon's prayer. We're going to pick that up, and
01:07 he's listing various situations and he's saying to the Lord,
01:11 if this happens and we turn and we pray towards this house,
01:15 please hear the prayer. And if this happens and we turn and
01:18 pray again, please forgive us, hear the prayer, and
01:21 we're picking it up in 1st Kings chapter 8, and verse 47.
01:27 And Solomon has just said, And if the people shall sin again,
01:31 see. Now we'll continue to read. This is the King James Version.
01:35 Yet if they shall bethink themselves in the land
01:40 whither they were carried captives, and repent, and make
01:44 supplication unto thee in the land of them that carried them
01:48 captive, saying, We have sinned, and have done perversely,
01:51 we have committed wickedness; And so return unto thee with all
01:55 their heart, with all their soul in the land of their enemies
01:58 which led them away captive, and pray unto thee toward their
02:03 land, which thou gavest unto their fathers, the city which
02:06 thou hast chosen, and the house which I have built for thy name:
02:10 Then hear thou their prayer and their supplication in heaven thy
02:16 dwelling place, and maintain their cause, and forgive thy
02:20 people that have sinned against thee and all their
02:23 transgressions wherein they have transgressed against thee,
02:27 and give them compassion before them who carried them captive,
02:31 that they may have compassion on them: for they be thy people,
02:36 and thine inheritance, which thou broughtest forth out of
02:39 Egypt, from the midst of the furnace of iron:
02:42 That thine eyes may be open unto the supplication of thy servant,
02:47 and unto the supplication of thy people Israel, to hearken unto
02:50 them in all that they call for unto thee.
02:53 For thou didst separate them from among all the people
02:57 of the earth, to be thine inheritance, as thou spakest
03:01 by the hand of Moses thy servant when thou broughtest our fathers
03:05 out of Egypt, O lord God. And it was so, that when Solomon had
03:09 made an end of praying all this prayer and supplication unto the
03:13 Lord, he arose from before the altar of the Lord, from kneeling
03:19 on his knees with his hands spread up to heaven.
03:22 And he stood, and blessed all the congregation of Israel
03:28 with a loud voice, saying, Blessed be the Lord,
03:32 that hath given rest unto his people Israel, according to all
03:36 that he promised: there hath not failed one word of all his good
03:41 promise, which he promised by the hand of Moses his servant.
03:44 The Lord our God be with us, as he was with our fathers:
03:49 let him not leave us nor forsake us: That he may incline our
03:55 hearts unto him, to walk in all his ways, and to keep his
04:01 commandments, and his statutes, and his judgments, which he
04:05 commanded our fathers. And let these my words, wherewith I have
04:10 made supplication before the Lord, be nigh unto the Lord
04:14 our God day and night, that he maintain the cause
04:19 of his servant, and the cause of his people Israel at all times,
04:23 as the matter shall require: That all the people of the earth
04:29 may know that the Lord is God, and that there is none else.
04:34 Let your heart therefore be perfect with the Lord our God,
04:39 to walk in his statutes, and to keep his commandments,
04:43 as at this day. And the king, and all Israel with him,
04:48 offered sacrifice before the Lord. And Solomon offered a
04:53 sacrifice of peace offerings, which he offered unto the Lord,
04:56 two and twenty thousand oxen, and an hundred and twenty
05:00 thousand sheep. So the king and all the children of Israel
05:03 dedicated the house of the Lord. The same day did the king hallow
05:09 the middle of the court that was before the house of the Lord
05:12 for there he offered burnt offerings, and meat offerings,
05:15 and the fat of the peace offerings: because the brasen
05:19 altar that was before the Lord was too little to receive
05:22 the burnt offerings, and meat offerings, and the fat of the
05:24 peace offerings. And at that time Solomon held a feast,
05:28 and all Israel with him, a great congregation, from the
05:33 entering in of Hamath unto the river of Egypt, before the Lord
05:36 our God, seven days and seven days, even fourteen days.
05:41 On the eighth day he sent the people away: and they blessed
05:45 the king, and went unto their tents joyful and glad of heart
05:50 for all the goodness that the Lord had done for David
05:53 his servant, and for Israel his people.
05:56 We're continuing to read in 1st Kings, chapter 9,
06:00 And this is the King James Version.
06:01 And it came to pass when Solomon had finished the building of the
06:06 house of the Lord, and the king's house, and all Solomon's
06:10 desire which he was pleased to do, that the Lord appeared to
06:14 Solomon the second time, as he had appeared unto him at Gibeon.
06:18 And the Lord said unto him, I have heard thy prayer and thy
06:23 supplication, that thou hast made before me: I have hallowed
06:28 this house, which thou hast build, to put my name there
06:32 for ever; and mine eyes and mine heart shall be there perpetually
06:37 and if thou wilt walk before me, as David thy father walked,
06:43 in integrity of heart, and in uprightness, to do according
06:48 to all that I have commanded thee, and wilt keep my statutes
06:52 and my judgments: Then I will establish the throne
06:56 of thy kingdom upon Israel for ever, as I promised to David
07:00 thy father, saying, There shall not fail thee a man upon the
07:04 throne of Israel. But if ye shall at all turn from following
07:10 me, ye or your children, and will not keep my commandments
07:14 and my statutes which I have set before you, but go and serve
07:19 other gods, and worship them: Then will I cut off Israel
07:24 out of the land which I have given them; and this house,
07:27 which I have hallowed for my name, will I cast out of
07:30 my sight; and Israel shall be a proverb and a byword among
07:35 all people: And at this house, which is high, every one that
07:39 passeth by it shall be astonished, and shall hiss,
07:43 and they shall say, Why hath the Lord done thus unto this land,
07:47 and to this house? And they shall answer, Because they
07:51 forsook the Lord their God, who brought forth their fathers
07:54 out of the land of Egypt, and have taken hold upon other gods,
07:58 and have worshipped them, and served them: therefore hath the
08:04 Lord brought upon them all this evil. And it came to pass
08:09 at the end of 20 years, when Solomon had built the 2 houses,
08:13 the house of the Lord, and the king's house,
08:15 Now Hiram the king of Tyre had furnished Solomon with the cedar
08:20 trees and fir trees, and with gold, according to all his
08:23 desire, that then king Solomon gave Hiram 20 cities in the land
08:29 of Galilee. And Hiram came out from Tyre to see the cities
08:33 which Solomon had given him; and they pleased him not.
08:38 And he said, What cities are these which thou hast given me,
08:43 my brother? And he called them the land of Cabul unto this day.
08:48 And Hiram sent to the king sixscore talents of gold.
08:53 And this is the reason of the levy which king Solomon raised;
08:56 for to build the house of the Lord, and his own house,
08:59 and Millo, and the wall of Jerusalem, and Hazor,
09:02 and Megiddo, and Gezer. For Pharaoh king of Egypt had gone
09:07 up and taken Gezer and burnt it with fire, and slain the
09:10 Canaanites that dwelt in the city, and given it for a present
09:14 unto his daughter, Solomon's wife. And Solomon built Gezer,
09:18 and Beth-horon the nether, and Baalath, and Tadmor
09:23 in the wilderness, in the land, and all the cities of store
09:26 that Solomon had, and cities for his chariots, and cities for his
09:30 horsemen, and that which Solomon desired to build in Jerusalem,
09:34 and in Lebanon, and in all the land of his dominion.
09:37 And all the people that were left of the Amorites, Hittites,
09:42 Perrizzites, Hivites, and Jebusites, which were not of
09:46 the children of Israel, their children that were left after
09:49 them in the land, whom the children of Israel also were not
09:53 able utterly to destroy, upon those did Solomon levy a tribute
09:58 of bondservice unto this day. But of the children of Israel
10:03 did Solomon make no bondmen: but they were men of war,
10:07 and his servants, and his princes, and his captains,
10:10 and rulers of his chariots, and his horsemen. These were the
10:14 chief of the officers that were over Solomon's work, 550,
10:18 which bare rule over the people that wrought in the work.
10:22 But Pharaoh's daughter came up out of the city of David unto
10:27 her house which Solomon had built for her: then did he build
10:31 Millo. And 3 times in a year did Solomon offer burnt offerings
10:37 and peace offerings upon the altar which he built unto the
10:41 Lord, and he burnt incense upon the altar that was before
10:44 the Lord. So he finished the house. And King Solomon
10:49 made a navy of ships in Eziongeber, which is beside
10:53 Eloth, on the shore of the Red Sea, in the land of Edom.
10:56 And Hiram sent in the navy his servants, shipmen that had
11:02 knowledge of the sea, with the servants of Solomon.
11:04 And they came to Ophir, and fetched from thence gold,
11:09 420 talents, and brought it to king Solomon.
11:13 We're continuing to read in 1 Kings, chapter 10.
11:17 This is the King James version.
11:18 And when the queen of Sheba heard of the fame of Solomon
11:25 concerning the name of the Lord, she came to prove him
11:29 with hard questions. And she came to Jerusalem with a very
11:34 great train, with camels that bare spices, and very much gold,
11:38 and precious stones: and when she was come to Solomon,
11:42 she communed with him of all that was in her heart.
11:45 And Solomon told her all her questions: there was not any
11:50 thing hid from the king, which he told her not.
11:53 And when the queen of Sheba had seen all Solomon's wisdom,
11:57 and the house that he had built, and the meat of his table,
12:01 and the sitting of his servants, and the attendance of his
12:05 ministers and their apparel, and his cupbearers, and his ascent
12:10 by which he went up unto the house of the Lord:
12:12 thee was no more spirit in her. And she said to the king,
12:17 It was a true report that I heard in mine own land
12:21 of thy acts and of thy wisdom. Howbeit I believed not the words
12:26 until I came, and mine eyes had seen it: and, behold the half
12:32 was not told me: thy wisdom and prosperity exceedeth
12:37 the thing which I heard. Happy are thy men, happy are these
12:42 thy servants, which stand continually before thee,
12:45 and that hear thy wisdom. Blessed be the Lord thy God,
12:49 which delighted in thee, to set thee on the throne of Israel
12:53 because the Lord loved Israel for ever, therefore made he thee
12:58 king, to do judgment and justice. And she gave the king
13:04 an hundred and twenty talents of gold, and of spices very great
13:07 store, and precious stones: there came no more such
13:12 abundance of spices as these which the queen of Sheba gave
13:16 to king Solomon. And the navy also of Hiram, that brought gold
13:20 from Ophir, brought in from Ophir great plenty of almug
13:24 trees, and precious stones. And the king made of the almug
13:29 trees, pillars for the house of the Lord, and for the king's
13:32 house, harps also and psalteries for singers: there came no such
13:37 almug trees, nor were seen unto this day. And king Solomon
13:42 gave unto the queen of Sheba all her desire, whatsoever she asked
13:47 beside that which Solomon gave her of his royal bounty.
13:50 So she turned and went to her own country, she and her
13:55 servants. Now the weight of gold that came to Solomon
13:58 in one year was six hundred threescore and six talents
14:04 of gold, beside that he had of the merchantmen,
14:07 and of the traffic of the spice merchants, and of all the kings
14:11 of Arabia, and of the governors of the country.
14:14 And King Solomon made 200 targets of beaten gold:
14:18 600 shekels of gold went to one target. And he made 300 shields
14:23 of beaten gold: 3 pound of gold went to one shield: and the king
14:27 put them in the house of the forest of Lebanon.
14:29 Thank you for joining with me today.
14:32 Please join me again next time to read the word of God. Goodbye
