00:17 Hello, and welcome to His Words are Life.
00:19 I'm Kelly Mowrer and thank you for coming back to read the word 00:23 of God with me today. We're reading in 1 Kings, 00:25 but before we start, let's pray together. 00:27 Dear God, thank you for this time apart to listen to the word 00:33 that is for us, both bread and nourishment, and light 00:37 and guidance. Please send the Holy Spirit to bring us a deeper 00:41 understanding as we read today. Thank you for loving us. 00:44 We love you so much. Amen. 00:47 We're reading in the book of 1st Kings, and were in chapter 00:50 seven, beginning with verse 24. We're in the middle of a 00:53 description of the temple that king Solomon built for the Lord. 00:57 And under the brim of it round about there were knops 01:02 compassing it, ten in a cubit, compassing the sea round about: 01:05 the knops were cast in two rows, when it was cast. 01:08 it stood upon 12 oxen, 3 looking toward the north, 01:13 and 3 looking toward the west, and 3 looking toward the south, 01:17 and 3 looking toward the east: and the sea was set above upon 01:21 them, and all their hinder parts were inward. 01:24 And it was an hand breadth thick and the brim thereof was wrought 01:29 like the brim of a cup, with flowers of lilies: 01:32 it contained 2,000 baths. And he made 10 bases of brass; 01:38 four cubits was the length of one base, and four cubits 01:42 the breadth thereof, and 3 cubits the height of it. 01:44 And the work of the bases was on this manner: they had borders, 01:49 and the borders were between the ledges: and on the borders 01:52 that were between the ledges were lions, oxen and cherubim's: 01:56 and upon the ledges there was a base above: and beneath 02:00 the lions and oxen were certain additions made of thin work. 02:03 And every base had 4 brazen wheels, and plates of brass: 02:08 and the four corners thereof had undersetters under the laver 02:12 were undersetters molten, at the side of every addition. 02:15 And the mouth of it within the chapiter and above was a cubit: 02:20 but the mouth thereof was round after the work of the base, 02:24 a cubit and an half: and also upon the mouth of it were 02:28 gravings with their borders, foursquare, not round. 02:31 And under the borders were four wheels; and the axletrees of the 02:36 wheels were joined to the base: and the height of a wheel was a 02:40 cubit and half a cubit. And the work of the wheels was like 02:44 the work of a chariot wheel: their axletrees and their naves, 02:47 and their felloes, and their spokes, were all molten. 02:51 And there were four undersetters to the four corners of one base: 02:55 and the undersetters were of the very base itself. And in the top 03:00 of the base was there a round compass of half a cubit high: 03:04 and on the top of the base the ledges thereof and the borders 03:08 thereof were of the same. For on the plates of the ledges thereof 03:13 and the borders thereof, he graved cherubims, lions, 03:15 and palm trees, according to the proportion of every one, 03:19 and additions round about. After this manner he made the 10 bases 03:24 all of them had one casting, one measure, and one size. 03:29 Then made he 10 lavers of brass: one laver contained forty baths: 03:34 and every laver was 4 cubits: and upon every one of the 03:38 ten bases was one laver. And he put 5 bases on the right side of 03:42 the house, and 5 on the left side of the house: 03:45 and he set the sea on the right side of the house eastward 03:48 over against the south. And Hiram made the lavers, 03:52 and the shovels, and the basins. So Hiram made an end of doing 03:56 all the work that he made king Solomon for the house 04:00 of the Lord: The 2 pillars, and the 2 bowls of the chapiters 04:03 that were on the top of the 2 pillars; and the 2 networks, 04:06 to cover the 2 bowls of the chapiters which were upon 04:08 the top of the pillars; And 400 pomegranates for the 2 networks, 04:13 even 2 rows of pomegranates for one network, to cover the 04:17 2 bowls of the chapiters that were upon the pillars; 04:20 And the 10 bases, and 10 lavers on the bases; and one sea, 04:24 and 12 oxen under the sea; and the pots, and the shovels, 04:28 a and the basins: and all these vessels, which Hiram made to 04:31 king Solomon for the house of the Lord, were of bright brass. 04:35 In the plain of Jordan did the king cast them, in the clay 04:39 ground between Succoth and Zarthan. And Solomon left all 04:44 the vessels unweighed, because they were exceeding many: 04:47 neither was the weight of the brass found out. 04:50 And Solomon made all the vessels that pertained 04:54 unto the house of the Lord: the altar of gold, and the table 04:57 of gold, whereupon the shewbread was. 04:59 And the candlesticks of pure gold, five on the right side, 05:03 and five on the left, before the oracle, with the flowers, 05:05 and the lamps, and the tongs of gold, and the bowls, and the 05:09 snuffers, and the basins, and the spoons, and the censers 05:13 of pure gold; and the hinges of gold, both for the doors of the 05:17 inner house, the most holy place, and for the doors of the 05:21 house, to wit, of the temple. So was ended all the work 05:26 that king Solomon made for the house of the Lord. 05:28 And Solomon brought in the things which David his father 05:32 had dedicated; even the silver, and the gold, and the vessels, 05:36 did he put among the treasures of the house of the Lord. 05:39 We're continuing to read now in 1st Kings, chapter 8. 05:43 And this is the King James Version. 05:44 Then Solomon assembled the elders of Israel, and all the 05:49 heads of the tribes, the chief of the fathers of the children 05:52 of Israel, unto king Solomon in Jerusalem, that they might 05:55 bring up the ark of the covenant of the Lord out of the city of 05:58 David which is Zion. And all the men of Israel assembled 06:02 themselves unto king Solomon at the feast in the month Ethanim, 06:06 which is the 7th month. And all the elders of Israel came, 06:10 and the priests took up the ark. And they brought up the ark 06:13 of the Lord, and the tabernacle of the congregation, 06:16 and all the holy vessels that were in the tabernacle, 06:18 even those did the priests and the Levites bring up. 06:21 And king Solomon, and all the congregation of Israel, 06:25 that were assembled unto him, were with him before the ark, 06:29 sacrificing sheep and oxen, that could not be told nor numbered 06:33 for multitude. And the priests brought in the ark 06:37 of the covenant of the Lord unto his place, into the oracle 06:41 of the house, to the most holy place, even under the wings 06:45 of the cherubims, For the cherubims spread forth their 06:49 2 wings over the place of the ark, and the cherubims covered 06:52 the ark and the staves thereof above. And they drew out the 06:57 staves, that the ends of the staves were seen out in the 07:01 holy place before the oracle, and they were not seen without. 07:04 and there they are unto this day There was nothing in the ark 07:08 save the 2 tables of stone, which Moses put there at Horeb. 07:13 And the Lord made a covenant with the children of Israel, 07:16 when they came out of the land of Egypt. And it came to pass, 07:20 when the priests were come out of the holy place, 07:22 that the cloud filled the house of the Lord, so that the priests 07:27 could not stand to minister because of the cloud: 07:29 for the glory of the Lord had filled the house of the Lord. 07:32 Then spake Solomon, The Lord said that he would dwell in the 07:38 thick darkness. I have surely built thee an house to dwell in, 07:43 a settled place for thee to abide in forever. 07:47 And the king turned his face about, and blessed all 07:50 the congregation of Israel: and all the congregation 07:54 of Israel stood; And he said, Blessed be the Lord God of 07:59 Israel, which spake with his mouth unto David my father, 08:02 and hath with his hand fulfilled it, saying, Since the day that I 08:06 brought forth my people Israel out of Egypt, I chose no city 08:10 out of all the tribes of Israel to build an house, that my name 08:13 might be therein; but I chose David to be over my people 08:18 Israel. And it was in the heart of David my father to build an 08:21 house for the name of the Lord God of Israel. And the Lord said 08:25 unto David my father, Whereas it was in thine heart to build an 08:28 house unto my name, thou didst well that it was in thine heart. 08:32 Nevertheless thou shalt not build the house; but thy son 08:35 that shall come forth out of thy loins, he shall build the house 08:39 unto thy name. And the Lord hath performed his word that he spake 08:44 and I am risen up in the room of David my father, and sit on 08:49 the throne of Israel, as the Lord promised, and have built 08:51 an house for the name of the Lord God of Israel. 08:55 And I have set there a place for the ark, wherein is the covenant 09:00 of the Lord, which he made with our fathers, when he brought 09:03 them out of the land of Egypt. And Solomon stood before the 09:07 altar of the Lord in the presence of all the congregation 09:10 of Israel, and spread forth his hands toward heaven: 09:13 And he said, Lord God of Israel, there is no God like thee, 09:19 in heaven above, or on the earth beneath, who keepest covenant 09:24 and mercy with thy servants that walk before thee 09:27 with all their heart: Who hast kept with thy servant David 09:31 my father that thou promisedst him: thou spakest also with thy 09:35 mouth and hast fulfilled it with thine hand, as it is this day. 09:38 Therefore now, Lord God of Israel, keep with thy servant 09:44 David my father that thou promisedst him, saying, 09:48 There shall not fail thee a man in my sight to sit on the throne 09:52 of Israel; so that thy children take heed to their way, 09:55 that they walk before me as thou hast walked before me. 10:00 And now, O God of Israel, let thy word, I pray thee, 10:05 be verified, which thou spakest unto thy servant David my father 10:11 But will God indeed dwell on the earth? behold the heaven and 10:17 heaven of heavens cannot contain thee; how much less this house 10:22 that I have builded? Yet have thou respect unto the prayer 10:27 of thy servant, and to his supplication, O Lord my God, 10:31 to hearken unto the cry and to the prayer, which thy servant 10:35 prayeth before thee today: That thine eyes may be open toward 10:40 this house night and day, even toward the place of which thou 10:44 hast said, My name shall be there: that thou mayest hearken 10:49 unto the prayer which thy servant shall make toward this 10:52 place. And hearken thou to the supplication of they servant, 10:55 and of thy people Israel, when they shall pray toward this 10:59 place: and hear thou in heaven thy dwelling place: 11:03 and when thou hearest, forgive. If any man trespass against his 11:09 neighbor, and an oath be laid upon him to cause him to swear, 11:13 and the oath come before thine altar in this house: 11:16 Then hear thou in heaven, and do, and judge thy servants, 11:21 condemning the wicked, to bring his way upon his head; 11:25 and justifying the righteous, to give him according to his 11:30 righteousness. When thy people Israel be smitten down before 11:34 the enemy, because they have sinned against thee, and shall 11:38 turn again to thee, and confess thy name, and pray, and make 11:41 supplication unto thee in this house: Then hear thou in heaven 11:46 and forgive the sin of thy people Israel, 11:48 and bring them again unto the land which thou gavest unto 11:52 their fathers. When heaven is shut up, and there is no rain, 11:57 because they have sinned against thee; if they pray toward this 12:01 place, and confess thy name, and turn from their sin, 12:04 when thou afflictest them: Then hear thou in heaven, 12:08 and forgive the sin of thy servants, and of they people 12:11 Israel, that thou teach them the good way wherein they should 12:16 walk, and give rain upon thy land, which thou hast given 12:20 to thy people for an inheritance. 12:22 If there be in the land famine, if there be pestilence, 12:26 blasting, mildew, locust or if there be caterpillar; 12:31 if their enemy besiege them in the land of their cities; 12:35 whatsoever plague, whatsoever sickness there be; 12:39 What prayer and supplication soever be made by any man, 12:44 or by all thy people Israel, which shall know every man 12:47 the plague of his own heart, and spread forth his hands 12:51 toward this house: Then hear thou in heaven thy dwelling 12:54 place, and forgive, and do, and give to every man according to 12:59 his ways, whose heart thou knowest; for thou, even thou 13:05 only, knowest the hearts of all the children of men: 13:07 That they may fear thee all the days that they live in the land 13:12 which thou gavest unto our fathers. Moreover concerning 13:17 a stranger, that is not of thy people Israel, but cometh out of 13:21 a far country for thy name's sake; for they shall hear of 13:24 thy great name, and of thy strong hand, and of thy 13:27 stretched out hand, and of thy stretched out arm: 13:28 when he shall come and pray toward this house; hear thou 13:32 in heaven thy dwelling place, and do according to all that 13:37 the stranger calleth to thee for: that all people of the 13:41 earth may know thy name, to fear thee, as do thy people 13:46 Israel; and that they may know that this house, which I have 13:51 builded, is called by thy name. If thy people go out to battle 13:56 against their enemy, whither soever thou shalt send them, 13:59 and shall pray unto the Lord toward the city which thou hast 14:03 chosen, and toward the house that I have built for thy name: 14:05 Then hear thou in heaven their prayer and their supplication, 14:10 and maintain their cause. If they sin against thee, 14:14 for there is no man that sinneth not, and thou be angry with them 14:19 and deliver them to the enemy, so that they carry them away 14:21 captives unto the land of the enemy, far or near; 14:24 Yet if they shall bethink themselves in the land 14:27 whither they were carried captives, and repent, 14:30 and make supplication unto thee in the land. 14:34 Please join me next time. Goodbye. |
