00:16 Hello, and welcome to His Words Are Life.
00:18 I'm Kelly Mowrer, and thank you for joining with me to read the 00:21 word of God today. 00:22 Before we start, let's pray together. 00:24 Dear Lord, may the time that we spend now in Your word make us 00:29 fruitful to be used by You. 00:31 May we not just hear these words but may we do them. 00:34 May they become a light to our path and make the path 00:38 firm for us. 00:39 We love You so much. 00:40 Thank You for loving us. 00:41 Amen. 00:42 We're starting today in the book of Deuteronomy, chapter 33, 00:47 and we're going to start in verse 26. 00:50 I have a list of some of my very favorite Bible texts, and these 00:53 next two verses are a part of that. 00:55 This is the King James Version. 00:57 There is none like unto the God of Jeshurun, who rideth upon the 01:02 heaven in thy help, and in his excellency on the sky. 01:06 The eternal God is thy refuge, and underneath are the 01:10 everlasting arms: and he shall thrust out the enemy from before 01:15 thee; and shall say, Destroy them. 01:16 Israel then shall dwell in safety alone: the fountain of 01:20 Jacob shall be upon a land of corn and wine; also his heavens 01:24 shall drop down dew. 01:26 Happy art thou, O Israel: who is like unto thee, O people 01:30 saved by the Lord, the shield of thy help, and who is the sword 01:34 of thy Excellency! 01:35 And thine enemies shall be found liars unto thee; and thou shalt 01:38 tread upon their high places. 01:40 We're continuing in Deuteronomy, chapter 34. 01:43 And Moses went up from the plains of Moab unto the mountain 01:47 of Nebo, to the top of Pisgah, that is over against Jericho. 01:51 And the Lord showed him all the land of Gilead, unto Dan, 01:55 and all Naphtali, and the land of Ephraim, and Manasseh, 01:58 and all the land of Judah, unto the utmost sea, and the south, 02:03 and the plain of the valley of Jericho, the city of palm trees, 02:08 unto Zoar. 02:09 And the Lord said unto him, this is the land which I sware 02:12 unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, saying, I will give 02:16 it unto thy seed: I have caused thee to see it with thine eyes, 02:20 but thou shalt not go over thither. 02:22 So Moses the servant of the Lord died there in the land of 02:27 Moab, according to the word of the Lord. 02:30 And he buried him in a valley in the land of Moab, over against 02:34 Bethpeor: but no man knoweth of his sepulcher unto this day. 02:39 And Moses was an hundred and twenty years old when he died: 02:43 his eye was not dim, nor his natural force abated. 02:48 And the children of Israel wept for Moses in the plains of Moab 02:52 thirty days: so the days of weeping and 02:55 mourning for Moses were ended. 02:57 And Joshua the son of Nun was full of the spirit of wisdom; 03:01 for Moses had laid his hands upon him: and the children of 03:05 Israel hearkened unto him, and did as the Lord commanded Moses. 03:08 And there arose not a prophet since in Israel like unto Moses, 03:13 whom the Lord knew face to face, in all the signs and the 03:18 wonders which the Lord sent him to do in the land of Egypt, 03:21 to Pharaoh, and to all his servants, and to all his land, 03:23 and in all that mighty hand, and in all the great terror 03:28 which Moses showed in the sight of all Israel. 03:32 We're continuing now to read in the book of Joshua, chapter 1. 03:37 This is the King James Version. 03:39 Now after the death of Moses the servant of the Lord, it came to 03:44 pass, that the Lord spake unto Joshua the son of Nun, 03:47 Moses' minister, saying, Moses my servant is dead; 03:51 now therefore arise, go over this Jordan, thou, and all this 03:56 people, unto the land which I do give to them, even to the 04:00 children of Israel. 04:01 Every place that the sole of your foot shall tread upon, 04:05 that have I given unto you, as I said unto Moses. 04:08 From the wilderness and this Lebanon even unto the great 04:12 river, the river Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites, 04:14 and unto the great sea toward the going down of the sun, 04:18 shall be your coast. 04:19 There shall not any man be able to stand before thee all the 04:23 days of thy life: as I was with Moses, so I will be with thee: 04:29 I will not fail thee, nor forsake thee. 04:32 Be strong and of a good courage: for unto this people shalt thou 04:37 divide for an inheritance the land, which I sware unto their 04:40 fathers to give them. 04:41 Only be thou strong and very courageous, that thou mayest 04:45 observe to do according to all the law, which Moses my servant 04:49 commanded thee: turn not from it to the right hand or to the 04:53 left, that thou mayest prosper whithersoever thou goest. 04:57 This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; 05:00 but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest 05:04 observe to do according to all that is written therein: 05:07 for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt 05:12 have good success. 05:14 Have not I commanded thee? 05:17 Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou 05:21 dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever 05:26 thou goest. 05:27 Then Joshua commanded the officers of the people, saying, 05:31 Pass through the host, and command the people, saying, 05:33 Prepare you victuals; for within three days ye shall pass over 05:37 this Jordan, to go in to possess the land, which the Lord your 05:41 God giveth you to possess it. 05:43 And to the Reubenites, and to the Gadites, and to half the 05:46 tribe of Manasseh, spake Joshua, saying, Remember the word which 05:50 Moses the servant of the Lord commanded you, saying, 05:52 The Lord your God hath given you rest, and 05:55 hath given you this land. 05:56 Your wives, your little ones, and your cattle, shall remain in 05:59 the land which Moses gave you on this side Jordan; but ye shall 06:03 pass before your brethren armed, all the mighty men of valor, 06:06 and help them; until the Lord have given your brethren rest, 06:10 as he hath given you, and they also have possessed the land 06:13 which the Lord your God giveth them: then ye shall return unto 06:16 the land of your possession, and enjoy it, which Moses the Lord's 06:20 servant gave you on this side Jordan toward the sunrising. 06:23 And they answered Joshua, saying, All that thou commandest 06:27 us we will do, and whithersoever thou sendest us, we will go. 06:31 According as we hearken unto Moses in all things, so will we 06:35 hearken unto thee: only the Lord thy God be with thee, 06:39 as he was with Moses. 06:41 Whosoever he be that doth rebel against thy commandment, 06:45 and will not hearken unto thy words in all that thou 06:48 commandest him, he shall be put to death: only be strong 06:52 and of a good courage. 06:54 Chapter 2 of the book of Joshua, and this is the 06:57 King James Version. 06:58 And Joshua the son of Nun sent out of Shittim two men to spy 07:04 secretly, saying, Go view the land, even Jericho. 07:08 And they went, and came into a harlot's house, named Rahab, 07:12 and lodged there. 07:13 And it was told the king of Jericho, saying, Behold, 07:17 there came men in hither tonight of the children of Israel 07:20 to search out the country. 07:21 And the king of Jericho sent unto Rahab, saying, Bring forth 07:25 the men that are come to thee, which are entered into thine 07:27 house: for they be come to search out all the country. 07:30 And the woman took the two men, and hid them, and said thus, 07:35 There came men unto me, but I wist not whence they were: 07:38 And it came to pass about the time of shutting of the gate, 07:42 when it was dark, that the men went out; whither the men went 07:46 I wot not: pursue after them quickly; 07:48 for ye shall overtake them. 07:49 But she had brought them up to the roof of the house, 07:53 and hid them with the stalks of flax, which she had laid in 07:56 order upon the roof. 07:57 And the men pursued after them the way to Jordan unto the 08:00 fords: and as soon as they which pursued after them 08:03 were gone out, they shut the gate. 08:04 And before they were laid down, she came up unto them upon the 08:08 roof; and she said unto the men, I know that the Lord hath given 08:12 you the land, and that your terror is fallen upon us, 08:14 and that all the inhabitants of the land faint because of you. 08:17 For we have heard how the Lord dried up the water of the 08:20 Red sea for you, when ye came out of Egypt; and what ye did 08:22 unto the two kings of the Amorites, that were on the other 08:25 side Jordan, Sihon and Og, whom ye utterly destroyed. 08:28 And as soon as we had heard these things, our hearts did 08:31 melt, neither did there remain any more courage in any man, 08:34 because of you: for the Lord your God, he is God in heaven 08:38 above, and in earth beneath. 08:39 Now therefore, I pray you, swear unto me by the Lord, since I 08:44 have showed you kindness, that ye will also show kindness unto 08:47 my father's house, and give me a true token: and that ye will 08:51 save alive my father, and my mother, and my brethren, 08:53 and my sisters, and all that they have, and deliver our 08:56 lives from death. 08:57 And the men answered her, Our life for yours, if ye utter not 09:04 this our business. 09:05 And it shall be, when the Lord hath given us the land, that we 09:08 will deal kindly and truly with thee. 09:11 Then she let them down by a cord through the window: 09:14 for her house was upon the town wall, and she dwelt 09:17 upon the wall. 09:18 And she said unto them, Get you to the mountain, 09:21 lest the pursuers meet you; and hide yourselves there three 09:24 days, until the pursuers be returned: and afterward 09:26 may ye go your way. 09:27 And the men said unto her, We will be blameless of this thine 09:32 oath which thou hast made us swear. 09:34 Behold, when we come into the land, thou shalt bind this line 09:38 of scarlet thread in the window which thou didst let us down by: 09:42 and thou shalt bring thy father, and thy mother, and thy 09:45 brethren, and all thy father's household, home unto thee. 09:48 And it shall be, that whosoever shall go out of the doors of thy 09:52 house into the street, his blood shall be upon his head, 09:55 and we will be guiltless: and whosoever shall be with thee 09:58 in the house, his blood shall be on our head, if any hand 10:01 be upon him. 10:02 And if thou utter this our business, then we will be quit 10:06 of thine oath which thou hast made us to swear. 10:08 And she said, According unto your words, so be it. 10:12 And she sent them away, and they departed: and she bound the 10:16 scarlet line in the window. 10:17 And they went, and came unto the mountain, and abode there three 10:21 days, until the pursuers were returned: and the pursuers 10:25 sought them throughout all the way, but found them not. 10:28 So the two men returned, and descended from the mountain, 10:31 and passed over, and came to Joshua the son of Nun, and told 10:34 him all things that befell them: and they said unto Joshua, 10:37 Truly the Lord hath delivered into our hands all the land; 10:40 for even all the inhabitants of the country do faint 10:43 because of us. 10:44 We're continuing this story in Joshua, chapter 3, and this is 10:49 the King James Version. 10:50 And Joshua rose early in the morning; and they removed from 10:53 Shittim, and came to Jordan, he and all the children of Israel, 10:56 and lodged there before they passed over. 10:59 And it came to pass after three days, that the officers went 11:03 through the host; and they commanded the people, saying, 11:05 When ye see the ark of the covenant of the Lord your God, 11:09 and the priests the Levites bearing it, then ye shall remove 11:12 from your place, and go after it. 11:14 Yet there shall be a space between you and it, 11:17 about two thousand cubits by measure: come not near unto it, 11:21 that ye may know the way by which ye must go: for ye have 11:24 not passed this way heretofore. 11:26 And Joshua said unto the people, Sanctify yourselves: 11:30 for tomorrow the Lord will do wonders among you. 11:34 And Joshua spake unto the priests, saying, Take up the ark 11:38 of the covenant, and pass over before the people. 11:40 And they took up the ark of the covenant, 11:42 and went before the people. 11:43 And the Lord said unto Joshua, This day will I begin to magnify 11:48 thee in the sight of all Israel, that they may know that, 11:52 as I was with Moses, so I will be with thee. 11:56 And thou shalt command the priests that bear the ark of the 11:59 covenant, saying, When ye are come to the brink of the water 12:02 of Jordan, ye shall stand still in Jordan. 12:05 And Joshua said unto the children of Israel, Come hither, 12:09 and hear the words of the Lord your God. 12:11 And Joshua said, Hereby ye shall know that the living God is 12:16 among you, and that he will without fail drive out from 12:21 before you the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Hivites, 12:24 and the Perizzites, and the Girgashites, and the Amorites, 12:26 and the Jebusites. 12:27 Behold, the ark of the covenant of the Lord of all the earth 12:31 passeth over before you into Jordan. 12:34 Now therefore take you twelve men out of the tribes of Israel, 12:38 out of every tribe a man. 12:39 And it shall come to pass, as soon as the soles of the feet 12:43 of the priests that bear the ark of the Lord, the Lord of all the 12:46 earth, shall rest in the waters of Jordan, that the waters of 12:50 Jordan shall be cut off from the waters that come down from 12:55 above; and they shall stand upon an heap. 12:57 And it came to pass, when the people removed from their tents, 13:00 to pass over Jordan, and the priests bearing the ark of the 13:04 covenant before the people; and as they that bare the ark 13:07 were come unto Jordan, and the feet of the priests that bare 13:10 the ark were dipped in the brim of the water, (for Jordan 13:13 overfloweth all his banks all the time of harvest,) that the 13:17 waters which came down from above stood and rose up upon a 13:21 heap very far from the city Adam, that is beside Zaretan: 13:25 and those that came down toward the sea of the plain, 13:27 even the salt sea, failed, and were cut off: and the people 13:32 passed over right against Jericho. 13:34 And the priests that bare the ark of the covenant of the Lord 13:37 stood firm on dry ground in the midst of Jordan, and all the 13:43 Israelites passed over on dry ground, until all the people 13:46 were passed clean over Jordan. 13:48 Continuing the story in Joshua, chapter 4. 13:52 And it came to pass, when all the people were clean passed 13:55 over Jordan, that the Lord spake unto Joshua, saying, Take you 14:00 twelve men out of the people, out of every tribe a man, 14:03 and command ye them, saying, Take you hence out of the midst 14:06 of Jordan, out of the place where the priests' feet stood 14:09 firm, twelve stones, and ye shall carry them over with you, 14:13 and leave them in the lodging place, where ye shall lodge 14:16 this night. 14:17 Then Joshua called the twelve men, whom he had prepared of the 14:20 children of Israel, out of every tribe a man: and Joshua said 14:25 unto them, Pass over before the ark of the Lord your God 14:27 into the midst of Jordan, and take you up every man of you a 14:30 stone upon his shoulder, according unto the number of the 14:34 tribes of the children of Israel: |
