00:17 Hi, and welcome back to His Words Are Life.
00:19 I'm Kelly Mowrer, and thank you for joining with me today to
00:22 read the word of God together.
00:23 Let's pray before we start.
00:24 Dear Jesus, thank You so much for blessing us with the words
00:30 that have been kept by Your hand down through the centuries
00:34 to bring us light and life into what we're facing right now,
00:38 and each of the lives of those watching and listening.
00:40 Please speak to our hearts through the power of Your
00:43 Holy Spirit, to bear fruit for You.
00:45 We love You.
00:46 Amen.
00:47 We've been reading in the book of Deuteronomy, and when we left
00:51 off Moses was just concluding a whole, basically a sermon
00:57 to the children of Israel, where he's reviewed with them the
00:59 history of God delivering them out of Egypt, and he's given
01:03 them warnings.
01:04 He's promised them blessings if they will remain
01:06 faithful to the Lord.
01:08 And now the Lord, speaking through Moses, has told
01:11 him to write a song for the children of Israel.
01:14 We're going to pick up on that song, and that part of the story
01:18 right now in Deuteronomy, chapter 31,
01:21 starting in verse 20.
01:23 This is the King James Version.
01:25 For when I shall have brought them into the land which I sware
01:29 unto their fathers, that floweth with milk and honey; and they
01:33 shall have eaten and filled themselves, and waxen fat;
01:36 then will they turn unto other gods, and serve them,
01:39 and provoke me, and break my covenant.
01:42 And it shall come to pass, when many evils and troubles are
01:46 befallen them, that this song shall testify against them as a
01:50 witness; for it shall not be forgotten out of the mouths of
01:54 their seed: for I know their imagination which they go about,
01:58 even now, before I have brought them into the land
02:00 which I sware.
02:01 Moses therefore wrote this song the same day, and taught it
02:05 the children of Israel.
02:07 And he gave Joshua the son of Nun a charge, and said,
02:11 Be strong and of a good courage: for thou shalt bring the
02:15 children of Israel into the land which I sware unto them:
02:18 and I will be with thee.
02:20 And it came to pass, when Moses had made an end of writing the
02:25 words of this law in a book, until they were finished,
02:28 that Moses commanded the Levites, which bare the ark of
02:31 the covenant of the Lord, saying, take this book of the
02:34 law, and put it in the side of the ark of the covenant of the
02:37 Lord your God, that it may be there for a
02:40 witness against thee.
02:41 For I know thy rebellion, and thy stiff neck: behold,
02:46 while I am yet alive with you this day, ye have been
02:49 rebellious against the Lord; and how much more
02:51 after my death?
02:52 Gather unto me all the elders of your tribes, and your officers,
02:56 that I may speak these words in their ears, and call heaven and
03:00 earth to record against them.
03:02 For I know that after my death ye will utterly corrupt
03:05 yourselves, and turn aside from the way which I have commanded
03:08 you; and evil will befall you in the latter days; because ye will
03:12 do evil in the sight of the Lord, to provoke him to anger
03:15 through the work of your hands.
03:16 And Moses spake in the ears of all the congregation of Israel
03:20 the words of this song, until they were ended.
03:24 We're continuing in the book of Deuteronomy, chapter 32.
03:28 Give ear, O ye heavens, and I will speak; and hear, O earth,
03:34 the words of my mouth.
03:35 My doctrine shall drop as the rain, my speech shall distill
03:39 as the dew, as the small rain upon the tender herb, and as the
03:42 showers upon the grass: because I will publish the name of the
03:46 Lord: ascribe ye greatness unto our God.
03:50 He is the Rock, his work is perfect: for all his ways are
03:54 judgment: a God of truth and without iniquity, just and
03:59 right is he.
04:00 They have corrupted themselves, their spot is not the spot of
04:04 his children: they are a perverse and crooked generation.
04:07 Do ye thus requite the Lord, O foolish people and unwise?
04:12 Is not he thy father that hath bought thee?
04:15 Hath he not made thee, and established thee?
04:18 Remember the days of old, consider the years of many
04:22 generations: ask thy father, and he will show thee;
04:25 thy elders, and they will tell thee.
04:28 When the most High divided to the nations their inheritance,
04:31 when he separated the sons of Adam, he set the bounds of the
04:35 people according to the number of the children of Israel.
04:38 For the Lord's portion is his people; Jacob is the lot
04:42 of his inheritance.
04:43 He found him in a desert land, and in the waste howling
04:47 wilderness; he led him about, he instructed him, he kept him
04:52 as the apple of his eye.
04:54 As an eagle stirreth up her nest, fluttereth over her young,
04:58 spreadeth abroad her wings, taketh them, beareth them on
05:01 her wings: so the Lord alone did lead him, and there was no
05:06 strange god with him.
05:08 He made him ride on the high places of the earth,
05:11 that he might eat the increase of the fields; and he made him
05:14 to suck honey out of the rock, and oil out of the flinty rock;
05:17 butter of kine, and milk of sheep, with fat of lambs,
05:22 and rams of the breed of Bashan, and goats, with the fat of
05:26 kidneys of wheat; and thou didst drink the pure blood
05:30 of the grape.
05:31 But Jeshurun waxed fat, and kicked: thou art waxen fat,
05:35 thou art grown thick, thou art covered with fatness; then he
05:39 forsook God which made him, and lightly esteemed the Rock
05:44 of his salvation.
05:45 They provoked him to jealousy with strange gods,
05:49 with abominations provoked they him to anger.
05:51 They sacrificed unto devils, not to God; to gods whom they
05:58 knew not, to new gods that came newly up,
06:00 whom your fathers feared not.
06:02 Of the Rock that begat thee thou art unmindful,
06:05 and hast forgotten God that formed thee.
06:08 And when the Lord saw it, he abhorred them, because of the
06:12 provoking of his sons, and of his daughters.
06:14 And he said, I will hide my face from them, I will see what their
06:18 end shall be: for they are a very forward generation,
06:22 children in whom is no faith.
06:24 They have moved me to jealousy with that which is not God;
06:28 they have provoked me to anger with their vanities: and I will
06:31 move them to jealousy with those which are not a people;
06:33 I will provoke them to anger with a foolish nation.
06:37 For a fire is kindled in mine anger, and shall burn unto the
06:40 lowest hell, and shall consume the earth with her increase,
06:43 and set on fire the foundations of the mountains.
06:46 I will heap mischief's upon them; I will spend
06:49 mine arrows upon them.
06:50 They shall be burnt with hunger, and devoured with burning heat,
06:54 and with bitter destruction: I will also send the teeth of
06:58 beasts upon them, with the poison of serpents of the dust.
07:01 The sword without, and terror within, shall destroy both the
07:05 young man and the virgin, the suckling also with the man
07:07 of gray hairs.
07:08 I said, I would scatter them into corners, I would make the
07:12 remembrance of them to cease from among men: were it not
07:16 that I feared the wrath of the enemy, lest their adversaries
07:18 should behave themselves strangely, and lest they should
07:21 say, Our hand is high, and the Lord hath not done all this.
07:24 For they are a nation void of counsel, neither is there any
07:29 understanding in them.
07:30 O that they were wise, that they understood this, that they
07:34 consider their latter end!
07:36 How should one chase a thousand, and two put ten thousand to
07:40 flight, except their Rock had sold them,
07:42 and the Lord had shut them up?
07:44 For their rock is not as our Rock, even our enemies
07:47 themselves being judges.
07:49 For their vine is of the vine of Sodom, and of the fields of
07:52 Gomorrah: their grapes are grapes of gall, their clusters
07:54 are bitter: their wine is the poison of dragons, and the cruel
07:58 venom of asps.
07:59 Is not this laid up in store with me, and sealed up among
08:03 my treasures?
08:04 To me belongeth vengeance and recompense; their foot shall
08:09 slide in due time: for the day of their calamity is at hand,
08:12 and the things that shall come upon them make haste.
08:14 For the Lord shall judge his people, and repent himself for
08:18 his servants, when he seeth that their power is gone,
08:21 and there is none shut up, or left.
08:23 And he shall say, Where are their gods, their rock in whom
08:27 they trusted, which did eat the fat of their sacrifices,
08:30 and drank the wine of their drink offerings? let them rise
08:32 up and help you, and be your protection.
08:35 See now that I, even I, am he, and there is no god with me:
08:40 I kill, and I make alive; I wound, and I heal: neither is
08:47 there any that can deliver out of my hand.
08:50 For I lift up my hand to heaven, and say, I live for ever.
08:55 If I whet my glittering sword, and mine hand take hold on
08:59 judgment; I will render vengeance to mine enemies,
09:02 and will reward them that hate me.
09:03 I will make mine arrows drunk with blood, and my sword shall
09:07 devour flesh; and that with the blood of the slain and of the
09:11 captives, from the beginning of revenges upon the enemy.
09:13 Rejoice, O ye nations, with his people: for he will avenge the
09:18 blood of his servants, and will render vengeance to his
09:20 adversaries, and will be merciful unto his land,
09:23 and to his people.
09:24 And Moses came and spake all the words of this song in the
09:29 ears of the people, he, and Hoshea the son of Nun.
09:33 And Moses made an end of speaking all these words to all
09:37 Israel: and he said unto them, Set your hearts unto all the
09:41 words which I testify among you this day, which ye shall command
09:45 your children to observe to do, all the words of this law.
09:48 For it is not a vain thing for you; because it is your life:
09:53 and through this thing ye shall prolong your days in the land,
09:56 whither ye go over Jordan to possess it.
09:58 And the Lord spake unto Moses that selfsame day, saying,
10:03 Get thee up into this mountain Abarim, unto mount Nebo,
10:08 which is in the land of Moab, that is over against Jericho;
10:11 and behold the land of Canaan, which I give unto the children
10:15 of Israel for a possession: and die in the mount whither thou
10:19 goest up, and be gathered unto thy people; as Aaron thy brother
10:23 died in mount Hor, and was gathered unto his people:
10:26 because ye trespassed against me among the children of Israel
10:30 at the waters of Meribah-Kadesh, in the wilderness of Zin;
10:34 because ye sanctified me not in the midst of the
10:38 children of Israel.
10:39 Yet thou shalt see the land before thee; but thou shalt not
10:43 go thither unto the land which I give the children of Israel.
10:46 Continuing in Deuteronomy, chapter 33, and this is the
10:51 King James Version.
10:52 And this is the blessing, wherewith Moses the man of God
10:57 blessed the children of Israel before his death.
11:00 And he said, The Lord came from Sinai, and rose up from Seir
11:04 unto them; he shined forth from Mount Paran, and he came with
11:07 ten thousands of saints: from his right hand went a fiery
11:10 law for them.
11:12 Yea, he loved the people; all his saints are in thy hand:
11:16 and they sat down at thy feet; every one shall receive
11:18 of thy words.
11:19 Moses commanded us a law, even the inheritance of the
11:23 congregation of Jacob.
11:24 And he was king in Jeshurun, when the heads of the people
11:28 and the tribes of Israel were gathered together.
11:30 Let Reuben live, and not die; and let not his men be few.
11:34 And this is the blessing of Judah: and he said, Hear, Lord,
11:38 the voice of Judah, and bring him unto his people: let his
11:42 hands be sufficient for him; and be thou an help to him
11:45 from his enemies.
11:46 And of Levi he said, Let thy Thummim and thy Urim be with
11:51 thy holy one, whom thou didst prove at Massah, and with whom
11:55 thou didst strive at the waters of Meribah; who said unto his
11:59 father and to his mother, I have not seen him; neither did he
12:02 acknowledge his brethren, nor knew his own children:
12:04 for they have observed thy word, and kept thy covenant.
12:07 They shall teach Jacob thy judgments, and Israel thy law:
12:10 they shall put incense before thee, and whole burnt sacrifice
12:14 upon thine altar.
12:15 Bless, Lord, his substance, and accept the work of his hands:
12:20 smite through the loins of them that rise against him,
12:23 and of them that hate him, that they rise not again.
12:26 And of Benjamin he said, The beloved of the Lord shall dwell
12:30 in safety by him; and the Lord shall cover him all the day
12:34 long, and he shall dwell between his shoulders.
12:36 And of Joseph he said, Blessed of the Lord be his land, for the
12:42 precious things of heaven, for the dew, and for the deep that
12:46 coucheth beneath, and for the precious fruits brought forth by
12:49 the sun, and for the precious things put forth by the moon,
12:52 and for the chief things of the ancient mountains, and for the
12:55 precious things of the lasting hills, and for the precious
12:59 things of the earth and fullness thereof, and for the good
13:02 will of him that dwelt in the bush: let the blessing come
13:05 upon the head of Joseph, and upon the top of the head of him
13:08 that was separated from his brethren.
13:10 His glory is like the firstling of his bullock, and his horns
13:14 are like the horns of unicorns: with them he shall push the
13:18 people together to the ends of the earth: and they are the
13:21 ten thousands of Ephraim, and they are the thousands
13:23 of Manasseh.
13:24 And of Zebulun he said, Rejoice, Zebulun, in thy going out;
13:28 and, Issachar, in thy tents.
13:31 They shall call the people unto the mountain; there they shall
13:34 offer sacrifices of righteousness: for they shall
13:37 suck of the abundance of the seas, and of treasures
13:40 hid in the sand.
13:41 And of Gad he said, Blessed be he that enlargeth Gad:
13:46 he dwelleth as a lion, and teareth the arm with the
13:49 crown of the head.
13:50 And he provided the first part for himself, because there,
13:53 in a portion of the lawgiver, was he seated; and he came with
13:56 the heads of the people, he executed the justice of the
13:59 Lord, and his judgments with Israel.
14:01 And of Dan he said, Dan is a lion's whelp: he shall leap
14:05 from Bashan.
14:06 And of Naphtali he said, O Naphtali, satisfied with favor,
14:10 and full with the blessing of the Lord: possess thou the
14:14 west and the south.
14:15 And of Asher he said, Let Asher be blessed with children;
14:19 let him be acceptable to his brethren, and let him dip his
14:22 foot in oil.
14:23 Thy shoes shall be iron and brass; and as thy days, so shall
14:28 thy strength be.
14:29 Until we come together again, may you go forward
14:32 in God's strength.
14:33 Goodbye.
