00:16 Hi, and welcome back to His Words Are Life.
00:19 I'm Kelly Mowrer, and thank you for joining with me to read the
00:22 wonderful word of God.
00:23 But before we start, let's pray together.
00:25 Dear God, we come to You right now and ask that in a special
00:30 way the Holy Spirit will give us understanding as we read
00:35 these words that You spoke through Moses so long ago.
00:38 Bring them life to our lives today, and may we serve You
00:43 and each other better.
00:44 We love You so much, and thank You for loving us.
00:46 Amen.
00:48 When we were last together we were reading in the book
00:49 of Deuteronomy.
00:51 Moses has gathered the Israelites together and is
00:53 reviewing with them all of God's leading as He's brought them
00:56 from Egypt to Canaan.
00:57 And this is before they've crossed over the Jordan.
01:00 And as he's reviewing and giving them the various laws
01:03 and commands of the Lord.
01:04 In this particular passage he has just referenced the
01:08 Ammonite's and the Moabite's, and how they'd come to Balaam
01:12 to have Balaam curse the Israelites.
01:14 We're going to pick up now in this story as Moses is
01:18 referencing their intention to have the Israelites cursed.
01:22 And I love how he shows the power of God by saying,
01:26 even though this was meant as a curse to you, God turned it
01:29 around and made it a blessing instead.
01:31 Let's read that now: Deuteronomy, chapter 23:5.
01:34 This is the King James Version.
01:36 Nevertheless, the Lord thy God would not hearken unto Balaam;
01:40 but the Lord thy God turned the curse into a blessing unto thee,
01:45 because the Lord thy God loved thee.
01:50 Thou shalt not seek their peace nor their prosperity all thy
01:53 days for ever.
01:54 Thou shalt not abhor an Edomite; for he is thy brother:
01:57 thou shalt not abhor an Egyptian; because thou wast a
02:01 stranger in his land.
02:02 The children that are begotten of them shall enter into the
02:05 congregation of the Lord in their third generation.
02:08 When the host goeth forth against thine enemies,
02:12 then keep thee from every wicked thing.
02:14 If there be among you any man, that is not clean by reason of
02:18 uncleanness that chanceth him by night, then shall he go
02:23 abroad out of the camp, he shall not come within the camp:
02:26 But it shall be, when evening cometh on, he shall wash himself
02:30 with water: and when the sun is down, he shall come into
02:33 the camp again.
02:34 Thou shalt have a place also without the camp, whither thou
02:38 shalt go forth abroad: and thou shalt have a paddle upon thy
02:41 weapon; and it shall be, when thou wilt ease thyself abroad,
02:44 thou shalt dig therewith, and shalt turn back and cover that
02:49 which cometh from thee: for the Lord thy God walketh in the
02:52 midst of thy camp, to deliver thee, and to give up thine
02:55 enemies before thee; therefore shall thy camp be holy:
02:58 that he see no unclean thing in thee, and turn away from thee.
03:02 Thou shalt not deliver unto his master the servant which is
03:06 escaped from his master unto thee: he shall dwell with thee,
03:10 even among you, in that place which he shall choose in one of
03:13 thy gates, where it liketh him best: thou shalt
03:16 not oppress him.
03:17 There shall be no whore of the daughters of Israel,
03:20 nor a sodomite of the sons of Israel.
03:23 Thou shalt not bring the hire of a whore, or the price of a dog,
03:26 into the house of the Lord thy God for any vow: for even both
03:30 these are abomination unto the Lord thy God.
03:32 Thou shalt not lend upon usury to thy brother; usury of money,
03:39 usury of victuals, usury of any thing that is lent upon usury:
03:43 unto a stranger thou mayest lend upon usury; but unto thy brother
03:48 thou shalt not lend upon usury: that the Lord thy God may bless
03:52 thee in all that thou settest thine hand to in the land
03:55 whither thou goest to possess it.
03:57 When thou shalt vow a vow unto the Lord thy God, thou shalt not
04:02 slack to pay it: for the Lord thy God will surely require it
04:06 of thee; and it would be sin in thee.
04:08 But if thou shalt forbear to vow, it shall be no sin in thee.
04:13 That which is gone out of thy lips thou shalt keep and
04:17 perform; even a freewill offering, according as thou hast
04:21 vowed unto the Lord thy God, which thou hast promised
04:25 with thy mouth.
04:26 When thou comest into thy neighbor's vineyard,
04:28 then thou mayest eat grapes thy fill at thine own pleasure;
04:32 but thou shalt not put any in thy vessel.
04:35 When thou comest into the standing corn of thy neighbor,
04:39 then thou mayest pluck the ears with thine hand; but thou shalt
04:42 not move a sickle unto thy neighbor's standing corn.
04:45 We're continuing to read in Deuteronomy, chapter 24,
04:49 and this is the King James Version.
04:50 When a man hath taken a wife, and married her, and it come to
04:55 pass that she find no favor in his eyes, because he hath found
04:58 some uncleanness in her: then let him write her a bill of
05:02 divorcement, and give it in her hand,
05:04 and send her out of his house.
05:06 And when she is departed out of his house, she may go and be
05:09 another man's wife.
05:11 And if the latter husband hate her, and write her a bill of
05:14 divorcement, and giveth it in her hand, and sendeth her out
05:17 of his house; or if the latter husband die, which took her
05:20 to be his wife; her former husband, which sent her away,
05:24 may not take her again to be his wife, after that she is
05:27 defiled; for that is abomination before the Lord: and thou shalt
05:32 not cause the land to sin, which the Lord thy God giveth thee
05:34 for an inheritance.
05:35 When a man hath taken a new wife, he shall not go out to
05:39 war, neither shall he be charged with any business: but he shall
05:42 be free at home one year, and shall cheer up his wife which
05:45 he hath taken.
05:46 No man shall take the nether or the upper millstone to pledge:
05:51 for he taketh a man's life to pledge.
05:53 If a man be found stealing any of his brethren of the children
05:57 of Israel, and maketh merchandise of him,
06:00 or selleth him; then that thief shall die; and thou shalt put
06:04 evil away from among you.
06:06 Take heed in the plague of leprosy, that thou observe
06:10 diligently, and do according to all that the priests the Levites
06:14 shall teach you: as I commanded them, so ye shall observe to do.
06:18 Remember what the Lord thy God did unto Miriam by the way,
06:23 after that ye were come forth out of Egypt.
06:25 When thou dost lend thy brother any thing, thou shalt not go
06:28 into his house to fetch his pledge.
06:30 Thou shalt stand abroad, and the man to whom thou dost lend shall
06:34 bring out the pledge abroad unto thee.
06:36 And if the man be poor, thou shalt not sleep with his pledge:
06:40 In any case thou shalt deliver him the pledge again when the
06:43 sun goeth down, that he may sleep in his own raiment,
06:46 and bless thee: and it shall be righteousness unto thee before
06:49 the Lord thy God.
06:50 Thou shalt not oppress an hired servant that is poor and needy,
06:54 whether he be of thy brethren, or of thy strangers that are in
06:58 thy land within thy gates: at his day thou shalt give him his
07:02 hire, neither shall the sun go down upon it; for he is poor,
07:06 and setteth his heart upon it: lest he cry against thee unto
07:10 the Lord, and it be sin unto thee.
07:11 The fathers shall not be put to death for the children,
07:15 neither shall the children be put to death for the fathers:
07:17 every man shall be put to death for his own sin.
07:21 Thou shalt not pervert the judgment of the stranger,
07:24 nor of the fatherless; nor take a widow's raiment to pledge:
07:28 But thou shalt remember that thou wast a bondman in Egypt,
07:32 and the Lord thy God redeemed thee thence: therefore I
07:35 command thee to do this thing.
07:36 When thou cuttest down thine harvest in thy field,
07:40 and hast forgot a sheaf in the field, thou shalt not go again
07:43 to fetch it: it shall be for the stranger,
07:46 for the fatherless, and for the widow: that the Lord thy God
07:50 may bless thee in all the work of thine hands.
07:53 When thou beatest thine olive tree, thou shalt not go over the
07:57 boughs again: it shall be for the stranger,
07:59 for the fatherless, and for the widow.
08:02 When thou gatherest the grapes of thy vineyard, thou shalt not
08:06 glean it afterward: it shall be for the stranger,
08:09 for the fatherless, and for the widow.
08:11 And thou shalt remember that thou wast a bondman in the land
08:16 of Egypt: therefore I command thee to do this thing.
08:20 We're continuing to read in Deuteronomy, chapter 25.
08:25 This is the King James Version.
08:26 If there be a controversy between men, and thy come unto
08:31 judgment, that the judges may judge them; then they shall
08:35 justify the righteous, and condemn the wicked.
08:38 And it shall be, if the wicked man be worthy to be beaten,
08:42 that the judge shall cause him to lie down, and to be beaten
08:45 before his face, according to his fault, by a certain number.
08:49 Forty stripes he may give him, and not exceed: lest,
08:54 if he should exceed, and beat him above these with many
08:57 stripes, then thy brother should seem vile unto thee.
09:00 Thou shalt not muzzle the ox when he treadeth out the corn.
09:04 If brethren dwell together, and one of them die, and have no
09:09 child, the wife of the dead shall not marry without unto a
09:13 stranger: her husband's brother shall go in unto her, and take
09:17 her to him to wife, and perform the duty
09:19 of a husband's brother unto her.
09:22 And it shall be, that the firstborn which she beareth
09:25 shall succeed in the name of his brother which is dead,
09:28 that his name be not put out of Israel.
09:31 And if the man like not to take his brother's wife, then let his
09:35 brother's wife go up to the gate unto the elders, and say,
09:39 My husband's brother refuseth to raise up unto his brother a name
09:43 in Israel, he will not perform the duty of my
09:46 husband's brother.
09:47 Then the elders of his city shall call him, and speak unto
09:51 him: and if he stand to it, and say, I like not to take her;
09:55 then shall his brother's wife come unto him in the presence of
09:58 the elders, and loose his shoe from off his foot, and spit in
10:03 his face, and shall answer and say, So shall it be done unto
10:07 that man that will not build up his brother's house.
10:11 And his name shall be called in Israel, The house of him
10:14 that hath his shoe loosed.
10:16 When men strive together one with another, and the wife of
10:21 the one draweth near for to deliver her husband out of the
10:24 hand of him that smiteth him, and putteth forth her hand,
10:28 and taketh him by the secrets: then thou
10:30 shalt cut off her hand, thine eye shall not pity her.
10:34 Thou shalt not have in thy bag divers weights,
10:37 a great and a small.
10:38 Thou shalt not have in thine house divers measures,
10:42 a great and a small.
10:43 But thou shalt have a perfect and just weight, a perfect and
10:48 just measure shalt thou have: that thy days may be lengthened
10:53 in the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee.
10:55 For all that do such things, and all that do unrighteously,
11:00 are an abomination unto the Lord thy God.
11:02 Remember what Amalek did unto thee by the way, when ye were
11:06 come forth out of Egypt; how he met thee by the way,
11:09 and smote the hindmost of thee, even all that were feeble behind
11:13 thee, when thou wast faint and weary; and he feared not God.
11:16 Therefore it shall be, when the Lord thy God hath given thee
11:21 rest from all thine enemies round about, in the land which
11:24 the Lord thy God giveth thee for an inheritance to possess it,
11:27 that thou shalt blot out the remembrance of Amalek from under
11:31 heaven; thou shalt not forget it.
11:34 We're reading in Deuteronomy.
11:37 This is chapter 26.
11:39 And it shall be, when thou art come in unto the land which the
11:43 Lord thy God giveth thee for an inheritance, and possessest it,
11:46 and dwellest therein; that thou shalt take of the first of all
11:50 the fruit of the earth, which thou shalt bring of thy land
11:53 that the Lord thy God giveth thee, and shalt put it in a
11:57 basket, and shalt go unto the place which the Lord thy God
12:00 shall choose to place his name there.
12:02 And thou shalt go unto the priest that shall be in those
12:05 days, and say unto him, I profess this day unto the Lord
12:10 thy God, that I am come unto the country which the Lord sware
12:13 unto our fathers for to give us.
12:15 And the priest shall take the basket out of thine hand,
12:18 and set it down before the altar of the Lord thy God.
12:21 And thou shalt speak and say before the Lord thy God,
12:24 A Syrian ready to perish was my father; and he went down unto
12:28 Egypt, and sojourned there with a few, and became there a
12:32 nation, great, mighty, and populous: and the Egyptians
12:37 evil entreated us, and afflicted us, and laid upon us hard
12:41 bondage: and when we cried unto the Lord God of our
12:44 fathers, the Lord heard our voice, and looked on our
12:48 affliction, and our labor, and our oppression: and the Lord
12:51 brought us forth out of Egypt with a mighty hand,
12:55 and with an outstretched arm, and with great terribleness,
12:56 and with signs, and with wonders: and he hath brought us
13:00 into this place, and hath given us this land, even a land that
13:04 floweth with milk and honey.
13:05 And now, behold, I have brought the firstfruits of the land,
13:10 which thou, O Lord, hast given me.
13:13 And thou shalt set it before the Lord thy God, and worship before
13:17 the Lord thy God: and thou shalt rejoice in every good
13:21 thing which the Lord thy God hath given unto thee, and unto
13:24 thine house, thou, and the Levite, and the stranger
13:26 that is among you.
13:28 When thou hast made an end of tithing all the tithes of thine
13:32 increase the third year, which is the year of tithing, and hast
13:36 given it unto the Levite, the stranger, the fatherless,
13:39 and the widow, that they may eat within thy gates,
13:42 and be filled; then thou shalt say before the Lord thy God,
13:45 I have brought away the hallowed things out of mine house,
13:49 and also have given them unto the Levite, and unto the
13:52 stranger, to the fatherless, and to the widow, according to all
13:56 thy commandments which thou hast commanded me: I have not
13:59 transgressed thy commandments, neither have I forgotten them:
14:02 I have not eaten thereof in my mourning, neither have I taken
14:06 away aught thereof for any unclean use, nor given aught
14:09 thereof for the dead: but I have hearkened to the voice of
14:12 the Lord my God, and have done according to all that thou hast
14:16 commanded me.
14:17 Look down from thy holy habitation, from heaven,
14:20 and bless thy people Israel, and the land which thou hast given
14:24 us, as thou swarest unto our fathers, a land that floweth
14:28 with milk and honey.
14:29 Please join me again next time to read the word
14:32 of God together.
14:33 Goodbye.
