00:16 Hello, and welcome to His Words are Life
00:18 I'm Kelly Mowrer and thank you for joining with me today
00:21 to read the word of God. Before we start, let's pray together.
00:24 Dear God, thank you so much for the word that you have placed
00:30 into our lives to bear fruit. May we not just hear the words
00:35 that will be read today, but may they go deep into our heart
00:39 by the power of your Holy Spirit and may the lives that we live
00:44 be changed by what we're going to hear this time together.
00:48 May we be more usable by you because of it.
00:52 We love you so much and thank you for loving us. Amen
00:55 When we were last together we were reading
00:58 in the book of Deuteronomy. Moses has gathered
01:00 the children of Israel together and he's recounting with them
01:03 God's leading, from the land of Egypt where they were slaves
01:08 to the land of promise. Moses says to them, I'm putting before
01:11 you, this day, a blessing and a curse. And he's laying out
01:14 for them the blessing that will be theirs if they would hear
01:17 and do the word of the Lord, and a terrible curse that will
01:20 be in their lives if they reject the word of the Lord.
01:23 We're picking up now in Deuteronomy chapter 13.
01:26 This is the King James Version. If there arise among you
01:30 a prophet, or a dreamer of dreams, and giveth thee a sign
01:35 or a wonder, and the sign or the wonder come to pass, whereof he
01:38 spake unto thee, saying, Let us go after other gods,
01:42 which thou has not known, and let us serve them;
01:45 Thou shalt not hearken unto the words of that prophet,
01:48 or that dreamer of dreams: for the Lord your God proveth you,
01:52 to know whether you love the Lord your God
01:55 with all your heart and with all your soul.
01:57 Ye shall walk after the Lord your God and fear Him,
02:00 and keep his commandments, and obey his voice,
02:03 and ye shall serve him, and cleave unto him.
02:05 And that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams,
02:08 shall be put to death; because he hath spoken to turn you away
02:12 from the Lord your God, which brought you out of the land
02:15 of Egypt, and redeemed you out of the house of bondage,
02:18 to thrust thee out of the way which the Lord thy God commanded
02:21 thee to walk in. So shalt thou put the evil away from the midst
02:26 of thee. If thy brother, the son of the mother, or thy son,
02:31 or thy daughter, or the wife of thy bosom, or thy friend,
02:34 which is as thine own soul, entice thee secretly, saying,
02:39 Let us go and serve other gods, which thou hast not known,
02:42 thou, nor thy fathers; namely, of the gods of the people which
02:46 are round about you, nigh unto thee, or far off from thee,
02:49 from the one end of the earth even unto the other end of
02:52 the earth; Thou shalt not consent unto him,
02:55 nor hearken unto him; neither shall thine eye pity him,
02:59 neither shalt thou spare, neither shalt thou conceal him;
03:04 But thou shalt surely kill him; thine hand shall be first
03:09 upon him to put him to death, and afterwards the hand of all
03:11 the people. And thou shalt stone him with stones, that he die;
03:15 because he hath sought to thrust the away from the Lord thy God,
03:20 which brought thee out of the land of Egypt, from the house
03:23 of bondage. And all Israel shall hear, and fear,
03:28 and shall do no more any such wickedness as this among is you.
03:33 If thou shalt hear say in one of thy cities, which the Lord
03:37 thy God hath given thee to dwell there, saying, Certain men,
03:41 the children of Belial, are gone out from among you, and have
03:44 withdrawn the inhabitants of their city, saying, Let us go
03:48 and serve other gods, which ye have not known; Then shalt thou
03:52 inquire, and make search, and ask diligently; and behold,
03:57 if it be truth, and the thing is certain, that such abomination
04:01 is wrought among you; Thou shalt surely smite the inhabitants
04:05 of that city with the edge of the sword, destroying it utterly
04:08 and all that is therein, and the cattle thereof, with the edge
04:13 of the sword. And shalt gather all the spoil of it into the
04:17 midst of the street thereof, and shalt burn with fire the city,
04:20 and all the spoil thereof every whit, for the Lord thy God:
04:23 and it shall be an heap forever; it shall not be built again.
04:28 And there shall cleave naught of the cursed thing
04:31 to thine hand: that the Lord may turn from the fierceness
04:34 of his anger, and show thee mercy, and have compassion
04:38 upon thee, and multiply thee, as he hath sworn
04:41 unto thy fathers; When thou shalt hearken to the voice
04:45 of the Lord thy God, to keep all his commandments
04:49 which I command thee this day, to do that which is right
04:52 in the eyes of the Lord thy God.
04:54 We're continuing now with Deuteronomy, chapter 14,
04:58 and this is the King James Version.
05:00 Ye are the children of the Lord your God: ye shall not cut
05:05 yourselves, nor make any baldness between your eyes
05:08 for the dead. For thou art an holy people unto the Lord
05:11 thy God, and the Lord hath chosen thee to be a peculiar
05:14 people unto himself, above all the nations that are upon
05:18 the earth. Thou shalt not eat any abominable thing.
05:21 These are the beasts which ye shall eat: the ox, the sheep,
05:26 and the goat, the hart, and the roebuck, and the fallow deer,
05:30 and the wild goat, and the pygarg, and the wild ox
05:32 and the chamois. And every beast that parteth the hoof,
05:36 and cleaveth the cleft into two claws, and cheweth the cud
05:39 among the beasts, that ye shall eat. Nevertheless these ye shall
05:45 not eat of them that chew the cud, or of them that divide the
05:48 cloven hoof, as the camel, and the hare, and the coney:
05:51 for they chew the cud, but divide not the hoof;
05:54 therefore they are unclean unto you. And the swine, because it
05:59 divideth the hoof, yet cheweth not the cud, it is unclean unto
06:04 you: ye shall not eat of their flesh,
06:06 nor touch their dead carcase. These ye shall eat of all
06:10 that are in the waters: all that have fins and scales
06:13 shall ye eat: and whatsoever hath not fins and scales
06:17 ye may not eat; it is unclean unto you.
06:20 Of all clean birds ye shall eat. But these are they of which
06:25 ye shall not eat; the eagle, and the ossifrage, and the osprey,
06:30 and the glede, and the kite, and the vulture after his kind,
06:34 and every raven after his kind and the owl, and the night hawk,
06:38 and the cuckoo, and the hawk after his kind, the little owl,
06:42 and the great owl, and the swan and the pelican, and the gier
06:46 eagle and the cormorant, and the stork, and the heron,
06:49 after her kind, and the lapwing, and the bat.
06:52 And every creeping thing that flieth is unclean unto you:
06:56 they shall not be eaten. But of all clean fowls ye may eat.
07:00 Ye shall not eat of anything that dieth of itself:
07:04 thou shalt give it unto the stranger that is in thy gates,
07:08 that he may eat it; or thou mayest sell it unto an alien:
07:12 for thou art an holy people unto the Lord thy God.
07:15 Thou shalt not seethe a kid in his mother's milk.
07:20 Thou shalt truly tithe all the increase of thy seed,
07:23 that the field bringeth forth year by year.
07:26 And thou shalt eat before the Lord thy God, in the place which
07:30 he shall choose to place his name there, the tithe
07:33 of thy corn, of thy wine, and of thine oil, and the firstlings
07:37 of thy herds and of thy flocks; that thou mayest learn to fear
07:41 the Lord thy God always. And if the way be too long for thee,
07:46 so that not able to carry it; or if the place be too far from
07:50 thee, which the Lord thy God shall choose to set his name
07:53 there, when the Lord thy God hath blessed thee:
07:55 Then shalt thou turn it into money, and bind up the money
08:00 in thine hand, and shalt go unto the place which the Lord
08:02 thy God shall choose: And thou shalt bestow that money
08:05 for whatsoever thy soul lusteth after, for oxen, or for sheep,
08:09 or for wine, or for strong drink or for whatsoever thy soul
08:13 desireth: and thou shalt eat there before the Lord thy God,
08:16 and thou shalt rejoice, thou and thine household,
08:19 And the Levite that is within thy gates;
08:22 thou shalt no forsake him; for he hath no part nor inheritance
08:25 with thee. At the end of three years thou shalt bring forth all
08:29 the tithe of thine increase the same year, and shalt lay it up
08:32 within thy gates: and the Levite, (because he hath no part
08:36 nor inheritance with thee,) and the stranger,
08:38 and the fatherless, and the widow, which are within
08:41 thy gates, shall come, and shall eat and be satisfied;
08:44 that the Lord thy God may bless thee
08:47 in all the work of thine hand which thou doest.
08:51 We're continuing now in the book of Deuteronomy, chapter 15
08:55 And this is the King James Version.
08:57 At the end of every seven years thou shalt make a release.
09:03 And this is the manner of the release: Every creditor
09:07 that lendeth aught unto his neighbor shall release it;
09:10 he shall not exact it of his neighbor, or of his brother;
09:14 because it is called the Lord's release. Of a foreigner
09:19 thou mayest exact it again: but that which is thine
09:22 with thy brother, thine hand shall release;
09:24 save when there shall be no poor among you;
09:27 for the Lord shall greatly bless thee in the land which the Lord
09:30 thy God giveth thee for an inheritance to possess it:
09:33 Only if thou carefully hearken unto the voice of the Lord
09:38 thy God, to observe to do all these commandments
09:41 which I command thee this day. For the Lord thy God blesseth
09:45 thee, as he promised thee: and thou shalt lend unto many
09:49 nations, but thou shalt not borrow; and thou shalt reign
09:52 over many nations, but they shall not reign over thee.
09:55 If there be among you a poor man of one of thy brethren within
09:59 any of thy gates, in thy land which the Lord thy God giveth
10:03 thee, Thou shalt not harden thine heart, nor shut thine hand
10:07 from thy poor brother: But thou shalt open thine hand wide
10:11 unto him and shalt surely lend him sufficient for his need,
10:14 in that which he wanteth. Beware that there be not a thought
10:20 in thy wicked heart, saying, The 7th year, the year of release,
10:24 is at hand; and thine eye be evil against thy poor brother,
10:27 and thou givest him naught; and he cry unto the Lord
10:31 against thee, and it be sin unto thee.
10:33 Thou shalt surely give him, and thine heart shall not be grieved
10:37 when thou givest unto him: because that for this thing
10:41 the Lord thy God shall bless thee in all thy works,
10:44 and in all that thou puttest thine hand unto.
10:47 For the poor shall never cease out of the land: therefore I
10:51 command thee, saying, Thou shalt open thine hand wide unto thy
10:55 brother, to thy poor, and unto thy needy,
10:57 in thy land. And if thy brother, an Hebrew man,
11:01 or an Hebrew woman, be sold unto thee, and serve thee
11:04 six years; then in the seventh year thou shalt let him go free
11:08 from thee. And when thou sendest him out free from thee,
11:11 thou shalt not let him go away empty: Thou shalt furnish him
11:14 liberally out of thy flock, and out of thy floor,
11:17 and out of thy winepress: of that wherewith the Lord thy God
11:20 hath blessed thee thou shalt give unto him.
11:23 and thou shalt remember that thou wast a bondman in the land
11:27 of Egypt, and the Lord thy God redeemed thee: therefore
11:31 I command thee this thing today. And it shall be, if he say unto
11:36 thee, I will not go away from thee; because he loveth thee
11:40 and thine house, because he is well with thee;
11:42 Then thou shalt take an awl, and thrust it through his ear
11:46 unto the door, and he shall be thy servant for ever.
11:49 And also unto thy maidservant thou shalt do likewise.
11:53 It shall not seem hard unto thee, when thou sendest him
11:57 away free from thee; for he hath been worth a double
11:59 hired servant to thee in serving thee six years;
12:02 and the Lord thy God shall bless thee
12:05 in all that thou doest. All the firstling males that come
12:10 of thy herd and of thy flock thou shalt sanctify
12:13 unto the Lord thy God: thou shalt do no work
12:16 with the firstling of thy bullock, nor shear the firstling
12:19 of thy sheep. Thou shalt eat it before the Lord thy God
12:23 year by year in the place which the Lord shall choose,
12:26 thou and thy household. And if there be any blemish therein
12:30 as if it be lame, or blind, or have any ill blemish,
12:33 thou shalt not sacrifice it unto the Lord thy God.
12:36 Thou shalt eat it within thy gates: the unclean and the clean
12:39 person shall eat it alike, as the roebuck, and as the hart.
12:43 Only thou shalt not eat the blood thereof;
12:45 thou shalt pour it upon the ground as water.
12:48 We're continuing in the book of Deuteronomy chapter 16.
12:52 This is the King James Version. Observe the month of Abib,
12:57 and keep the Passover unto the Lord thy God: for in the month
13:00 of Abib the Lord thy God brought thee forth out of Egypt by night
13:04 Thou shalt therefore sacrifice the Passover unto the Lord
13:07 thy God, of the flock and the herd, in the place
13:10 which the Lord shall choose to place his name there.
13:12 Thou shalt eat no leavened bread with it; seven days shalt
13:16 thou eat unleavened bread therewith, even the bread
13:19 of affliction: for thou camest forth out of the land of Egypt
13:23 in haste: that thou mayest remember the day
13:25 when thou camest forth out of the Land of Egypt all the days
13:29 of thy life. And there shall be no leavened bread seen with thee
13:33 in all thy coast seven days; neither shall there anything of
13:38 the flesh, which thou sacrificedst the first day
13:41 at even, remain all night until the morning.
13:44 Thou mayest not sacrifice the Passover within any of thy gates
13:48 which the Lord thy God giveth thee: But at the place
13:51 which the Lord thy God shall choose to place his name in,
13:54 there thou shalt sacrifice the Passover at even,
13:57 at the going down of the sun, at the season that thou camest
14:01 forth out of Egypt. And thou shalt roast and eat it
14:04 in the place which the Lord thy God shall choose:
14:06 and thou shalt turn in the morning, and go unto thy tents.
14:10 Six days thou shalt eat unleavened bread:
14:13 and on the 7th day shall be a solemn assembly to the Lord
14:17 thy god: thou shalt do no work therein.
14:20 Seven weeks shalt thou number unto thee: begin to number
14:25 the seven weeks from such time as thou beginnest to put
14:27 the sickle to the corn. Thank you for being with me
14:31 today. Please join me again next time to read the word of God
14:34 together.
