00:16 Hi and welcome to His Words Are Life.
00:18 I'm Kelly Mowrer, and thank you
00:20 for joining with me today to read the Word of God.
00:22 When I look at the top of the Bible where it kind of gives a
00:25 heading for what the topic is in the chapters beneath,
00:29 this particular section in Leviticus that we are reading
00:31 right now is called personal laws.
00:33 And it struck me the last time we were reading together
00:36 how God is taking great pains to tell the children of Israel
00:40 that the laws of Egypt that He brought them out of
00:44 and the laws of Canaan that He's bringing them to
00:47 are not to be the laws that they follow.
00:49 They are to follow His laws because He is a holy God
00:52 and they are His holy people.
00:53 And as we read that today, I'll be looking not just
00:57 to... to find the laws that God was specifically speaking to the
01:00 Israelites but the principles that He means for all of us
01:03 as His children, His sons and His daughters,
01:06 to have to show that we belong to Him
01:09 and not to the world around us.
01:11 Let's pray together before we read.
01:13 Dear Jesus, thank you so much for the passages that we'll be
01:17 reading today. Particularly as we read them, we ask
01:20 for You to come and to guide our minds and our thoughts
01:24 to not only hear the words that were spoken and recorded
01:28 so many years ago to the Israelites
01:30 but to understand the meaning of the words that You wish
01:34 for us to know today... to apply to us today.
01:36 We want to be Your holy and special people - set apart
01:40 from the world. We want to serve You better.
01:43 Please teach us how.
01:45 We love You so much, and thank You for loving us. Amen.
01:48 Again, we are reading in the book of Leviticus.
01:51 We are starting with chapter 20,
01:53 and this is the King James version.
01:54 And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,
01:58 Again, thou shalt say to the children of Israel,
02:00 Whosoever he be of the children of Israel,
02:04 or of the strangers that sojourn in Israel, that giveth any
02:07 of his seed unto Molech; he shall surely be put to death:
02:10 the people of the land shall stone him with stones.
02:14 And I will set My face against that man, and will cut him off
02:18 from among his people; because he hath given of his seed
02:21 unto Molech, to defile My sanctuary,
02:24 and to prone My holy name.
02:27 And if the people of the land do in any ways hide their eyes
02:31 from the man, when he giveth of his seed unto Molech,
02:34 and kill him not: Then I will set My face against that man,
02:38 and against his family, and will cut him off,
02:41 and all that go a whoring after him, to commit whoredom with
02:44 Molech, from among their people.
02:46 And the soul that turneth after such as have familiar spirits,
02:51 and after wizards, to go a whoring after them,
02:54 I will even set my face against that soul,
02:57 and will cut him off from among his people.
03:00 Sanctify yourselves therefore, and be ye holy:
03:04 for I am the Lord your God.
03:07 And you shall keep My statutes, and do them:
03:09 I am the Lord which sanctify you.
03:12 For everyone the curseth his father or his mother
03:16 shall be surely put to death: he hath cursed his father
03:20 or his mother; his blood shall be upon him.
03:22 And the man that committeth adultery with another man's
03:25 wife, even he that committeth adultery with his neighbor's
03:28 wife, the adulterer and the adulteress shall surely
03:32 be put to death.
03:33 And the man that lieth with his father's wife
03:37 hath uncovered his father's nakedness: both of them
03:39 shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.
03:43 And if a man lie with his daughter-in-law,
03:46 both of them shall surely be put to death:
03:49 they have wrought confusion; their blood shall be upon them.
03:53 If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman,
03:57 both of them have committed an abomination:
04:00 they shall surely be put to death;
04:02 their blood shall be upon them.
04:03 And if a man take a wife and her mother, it is wickedness:
04:07 they shall be burnt with fire, both he and they;
04:10 that there be no wickedness among you.
04:13 And if a man lie with a beast, he shall surely be put to death:
04:17 and ye shall slay the beast.
04:18 And if a woman approach unto any beast, and lie down thereto,
04:23 thou shalt kill the woman, and the beast:
04:25 they shall surely be put to death:
04:27 their blood shall be upon them.
04:29 And if a man shall take his sister, his father's daughter,
04:33 or his mother's daughter, and see her nakedness,
04:36 and she see his nakedness; it is a wicked thing;
04:38 and they shall be cut off in the sight of their people:
04:41 he hath uncovered his sister's nakedness;
04:44 he shall bear his iniquity.
04:45 And if a man shall lie with a woman having her sickness,
04:49 and shall uncover her nakedness;
04:51 he hath discovered her fountain,
04:53 and she hath uncovered the fountain of her blood:
04:55 and both of them shall be cut off from among their people.
04:58 And thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of thy mother's
05:01 sister, nor of thy father's sister, for he uncovereth
05:04 his near kin, they shall bear their iniquity.
05:07 And if a man shall lie with his uncle's wife,
05:10 he hath uncovered his uncle's nakedness; they shall bear
05:13 their sin; they shall die childless.
05:16 And if a man shall take his brother's wife,
05:18 it is an unclean thing: he hath uncovered his brother's
05:21 nakedness; they shall be childless.
05:24 Ye shall therefore keep all My statutes and all My judgments,
05:27 and do them: that the land, whither I bring you
05:31 to dwell therein, spew you not out.
05:34 And ye shall not walk in the manners of the nation,
05:37 which I cast out before you:
05:39 for they committed all these things,
05:41 and therefore I abhorred them.
05:43 But I have said unto you, Ye shall inherit their land,
05:46 and I will give it unto you to possess it,
05:48 a land that floweth with milk and honey:
05:50 I am the Lord your God,
05:53 which have separated you from other people.
05:56 You shall therefore put difference between clean beasts
05:59 and unclean, and between unclean fowls and clean:
06:02 and you shall not make your souls abominable by beast,
06:05 or by fowl, or by any manner of living thing that creepeth
06:09 on the ground, which I have separated from you as unclean.
06:12 And ye shall be holy unto Me: for I the Lord am holy,
06:17 and have severed you from other people, that ye should be Mine.
06:21 A man also or woman that hath a familiar spirit,
06:25 or that is a wizard, shall surely be put to death:
06:28 they shall stone them with stones:
06:30 their blood shall be upon them.
06:32 We are continuing in the book of Leviticus
06:34 chapter 21, and this is the King James version.
06:38 And the Lord said unto Moses,
06:40 Speak unto the priests the sons of Aaron, and say unto them,
06:44 There shall none be defiled for the dead among his people:
06:48 But for his kin, that is near unto him, that is,
06:51 for his mother, and for his father, and for his son,
06:54 and for his daughter, and for his brother,
06:56 And for his sister a virgin, that is nigh unto him,
06:59 which hath had no husband; for her may he be defiled.
07:03 But he shall not defile himself, being a chief man among his
07:07 people, to profane himself.
07:09 They shall not make baldness upon their head,
07:12 neither shall they shave off the corner of their beard,
07:14 nor make any cuttings in their flesh.
07:17 They shall be holy unto their God, and not profane the name
07:20 of their God: for the offerings of the Lord made by fire,
07:24 and the bread of their God, they do offer:
07:26 therefore they shall be holy.
07:28 They shall not take a wife that is a whore, or profane;
07:32 neither shall they take a woman put away from her husband:
07:35 for he is holy unto his God.
07:38 Thou shalt sanctify him therefore, for he offereth
07:41 the bread of thy God: he shall be holy unto thee:
07:44 for I the Lord, which sanctify you, am holy.
07:49 And the daughter of any priest, if she profane herself
07:51 by playing the whore, she profaneth her father:
07:54 she shall be burnt with fire.
07:57 And he that is the high priest among his brethren,
07:59 upon whose head the anointing oil was poured,
08:02 and that is consecrated to put on the garments,
08:05 shall not uncover his head, nor rend his clothes,
08:09 Neither shall he go in to any dead body,
08:12 nor defile himself for his father, or for his mother;
08:16 Neither shall he go out of the sanctuary, nor profane the
08:19 sanctuary of his God; for the crown of the anointing oil
08:23 of his God is upon him: I am the Lord.
08:26 And he shall take a wife in her virginity.
08:30 A widow, or a divorced woman, or profane, or a harlot,
08:34 these shall he not take:
08:36 for he shall take a virgin of his own people to wife.
08:40 Neither shall he profane his seed among his people:
08:43 for I the Lord do sanctify him.
08:45 And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,
08:47 Speak unto Aaron, saying, Whosoever he be of thy seed
08:52 in their generations that hath any blemish,
08:54 let him not approach to offer the bread of his God.
08:58 For whatsoever man he be that hath a blemish,
09:01 he shall not approach: a blind man, or a lame,
09:06 or he that hath a flat nose, or any thing superfluous,
09:10 Or a man that is broken-footed, or broken-handed,
09:13 Or crookbacked, or a dwarf,
09:15 or that hath a blemish in his eye, or be scurvy, or scabbed,
09:19 or hath his stones broken;
09:21 No man that hath a blemish of the seed of Aaron
09:24 the priest shall come nigh to offer the offerings of the Lord
09:27 made by fire: he hath a blemish;
09:30 he shall not come nigh to offer the bread of his God.
09:33 He shall eat the bread of his God, both of the most holy,
09:37 and of the holy. Only he shall not go in unto the veil,
09:40 nor come nigh unto the altar, because he hath a blemish;
09:43 that he profane not my sanctuaries:
09:46 for I the Lord do sanctify them.
09:48 And Moses told it unto Aaron, and to his sons,
09:51 and unto all the children of Israel.
09:55 Continuing now in Leviticus chapter 22.
10:00 And the Lord spake unto Moses,
10:02 saying, Speak unto Aaron
10:03 and to his sons, that they
10:04 separate themselves from the holy things of the
10:07 children of Israel, and that they profane not My holy name
10:11 in those things which they hallow unto Me: I am the Lord.
10:15 Say unto them, Whosoever he be of all your seed among your
10:19 generations, that goeth unto the holy things, which the
10:22 children of Israel hallow unto the Lord, having his uncleanness
10:26 upon him, that soul shall be cut off from My presence:
10:30 I am the Lord.
10:32 What man soever of the seed of Aaron is a leper,
10:35 or hath a running issue; he shall not eat of the holy
10:39 things, until he be clean.
10:41 And whoso toucheth any thing that is unclean by the dead,
10:44 or a man whose seed goeth from him;
10:46 Or whosoever toucheth any creeping thing,
10:48 whereby he may be made unclean, or a man of whom he may take
10:53 uncleanness, whatsoever uncleanness he hath;
10:55 The soul which hath touched any such thing shall be unclean
10:59 until even, and shall not eat of the holy things,
11:01 unless he wash his flesh with water.
11:04 And when the sun is down, he shall be clean,
11:06 and shall afterward eat of the holy things;
11:09 because it is his food.
11:11 That which dieth of itself, or is torn with beasts,
11:14 he shall not eat to defile himself therewith:
11:17 I am the Lord.
11:19 They shall therefore keep Mine ordinance,
11:21 lest they bear sin for it, and die therefore,
11:24 if they profane it: I the Lord do sanctify them.
11:28 There shall no stranger eat of the holy thing:
11:32 a sojourner of the priest, or a hired servant,
11:35 shall not eat of the holy thing.
11:37 But if the priest buy any soul with his money,
11:41 he shall eat of it, and he that is born in his house:
11:44 they shall eat of his meat.
11:46 If the priest's daughter also be married unto a stranger,
11:50 she may not eat of an offering of the holy things.
11:54 But if the priest's daughter be a widow, or divorced,
11:57 and have no child, and is returned unto her father's
12:01 house, as in her youth, she shall eat of her father's
12:04 meat: but there shall no stranger eat thereof.
12:08 And if a man eat of the holy thing unwittingly,
12:12 then he shall put the fifth part thereof unto it,
12:15 and shall give it unto the priest with the holy thing.
12:19 And they shall not profane the holy things of the children of
12:21 Israel, which they offer unto the Lord:
12:24 Or suffer them to bear the iniquity of trespass,
12:27 when they eat their holy things: for I the Lord do sanctify them.
12:31 And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,
12:34 Speak unto Aaron, and to his sons,
12:36 and unto all the children of Israel, and say unto them,
12:39 Whatsoever he be of the house of Israel, or of the strangers
12:44 in Israel, that will offer his oblation for all his vows,
12:48 and for all his freewill offerings, which they will offer
12:51 unto the Lord for a burnt offering;
12:53 Ye shall offer at your own will a male without blemish,
12:58 of the beeves, of the sheep, or of the goats.
13:01 But whatsoever hath a blemish, that shall ye not offer:
13:04 for it shall not be acceptable for you.
13:07 And whosoever offereth a sacrifice of peace offerings
13:10 unto the Lord to accomplish his vow, or a freewill offering
13:14 in beeves or sheep, it shall be perfect to be accepted;
13:17 there shall be no blemish therein.
13:20 Blind, or broken, or maimed, or having a wen,
13:25 or scurvy, or scabbed, ye shall not offer these unto the Lord,
13:29 nor make an offering by fire of them upon the altar
13:32 unto the Lord. Either a bullock or a lamb that hath any thing
13:36 superfluous or lacking in his parts, that mayest thou offer
13:40 for a freewill offering; but for a vow it shall not be accepted.
13:43 Ye shall not offer unto the Lord that which is bruised,
13:46 or crushed, or broken, or cut;
13:49 neither shall you make any offering thereof in your land.
13:52 Neither from a stranger's hand shall ye offer the bread
13:54 of your God of any of these; because their corruption
13:57 is in them, and blemishes be in them:
13:59 they shall not be accepted for you.
14:01 And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,
14:03 When a bullock, or a sheep, or a goat, is brought forth,
14:06 then it shall be seven days under the dam;
14:08 and from the eighth day and thenceforth it shall be accepted
14:11 for an offering made by fire unto the Lord.
14:14 And whether it be cow or ewe, ye shall not kill it
14:18 and her young both in one day.
14:20 And when ye will offer a sacrifice of thanksgiving
14:22 unto the Lord, offer it at your own will.
14:26 On the same day it shall be eaten up;
14:28 ye shall leave none of it until the morrow: I am the Lord.
14:32 Therefore shall ye keep My commandments, and do them:
14:36 I am the Lord.
