00:15 Hi and welcome back to His Words Are Life.
00:17 I'm Kelly Mowrer, and thank you 00:19 for joining with me today to... 00:21 to read the Word of God together. 00:23 When we were last together we were reading about 00:25 Moses and the Israelites camped at the desert by mount Sinai 00:29 and receiving all the words of the Lord and coming together 00:32 and saying with one voice "All that God commands us 00:35 we will do. " Then Moses goes up into the mount 00:38 and he's gone out of their sight for just a little while 00:40 and they forget everything they've been told 00:43 or they turn their back on it at least. 00:44 And then they forget their vow to obey all that God has 00:48 commanded and they worship the golden calf. 00:50 And Moses comes down off the mountain 00:53 and he is very angry. 00:55 And he says: "Who is on the Lord's side? 00:57 Let them come to me. " 00:58 That's where we're going to pick up the story today. 01:00 And the Levites come and stand by Moses. 01:02 Before we begin to read, let's pray together. 01:05 Dear Lord, so many times in my life 01:08 and in all of our lives the desire to serve You 01:13 has been there but then it has faded away or it has been 01:16 dimmed in some way. Maybe the things that we see 01:21 don't look very promising. We get scared, and we forget 01:25 our promise to faithfully obey what You have shown us. 01:30 Please let us learn today as we read the story 01:33 of the Israelites all these hundreds of years ago 01:36 and how they turned on You. And fix in our hearts a desire 01:41 to... to stay close to You. Help us to both will and do 01:45 Your good pleasure. And now send Your Holy Spirit to bring 01:48 a special understanding as we read Your Word. 01:50 We love You, and thank you for loving us. Amen. 01:53 We are picking up Exodus, and we are in chapter 32 01:57 and starting with verse 27. 02:00 Again, the Levites have just come to Moses as he has said 02:03 "Who is on the Lord's side? Let them come and stand by me. " 02:06 And he said unto them, Thus saith the Lord God of Israel, 02:10 Put every man his sword by his side, and go in and out 02:14 from gate to gate throughout the camp, and slay every man 02:19 his brother, and every man his companion, and every man 02:21 his neighbor. And the children of Levi did according to the 02:25 word of Moses: and there fell of the people that day 02:29 about three thousand men. 02:31 For Moses had said, Consecrate yourselves today to the Lord, 02:35 even every man upon his son, and upon his brother; 02:38 that He may bestow upon you a blessing this day. 02:41 And it came to pass on the morrow, that Moses said unto the 02:45 people, You have sinned a great sin: and now I will go up 02:50 unto the Lord; peradventure I shall make an atonement 02:53 for your sin. And Moses returned unto the Lord, and said, 02:58 Oh, this people have sinned a great sin, 03:00 and have made them gods of gold. 03:03 Yet now, if Thou wilt forgive their sin; and if not, 03:09 blot me, I pray Thee, out of Thy book which Thou has written. 03:13 And the Lord said unto Moses, whosoever hath sinned 03:17 against Me, him will I blot out of My book. 03:20 Therefore now go, lead the people unto the place of which 03:26 I have spoken unto thee: behold, mine angel shall go 03:30 before thee: nevertheless, in the day when I visit 03:34 I will visit their sin upon them. 03:36 And the Lord plagued the people, because they made the calf, 03:40 which Aaron made. 03:43 Continuing to read in the book of Exodus. 03:45 This is chapter 33. This is the King James version. 03:48 And the Lord said unto Moses, Depart, and go up hence, 03:52 thou and the people which thou has brought up out of the land 03:55 of Egypt, unto the land which I sware unto Abraham, 03:58 to Isaac, and to Jacob, saying, Unto thy seed will I give it: 04:01 And I will send an angel before thee; and I will drive out the 04:05 Canaanite, the Amorite, the Hittite, and the Perizzite, 04:08 and the Hivite, and the Jebusite: 04:09 Unto a land flowing with milk and honey: 04:12 for I will not go up in the midst of thee: 04:15 for thou art a stiffnecked people: lest I consume thee 04:18 in the way. And when the people heard these evil tidings, 04:22 they mourned: and no man did put on him his ornaments. 04:26 For the Lord had said unto Moses, Say unto the children of 04:29 Israel, You are a stiffnecked people: I will come up into the 04:32 midst of thee in a moment, and consume thee: 04:34 therefore now put off thy ornaments from thee, 04:37 that I may know what to do unto thee. 04:39 And the children of Israel stripped themselves of their 04:42 ornaments by the mount Horeb. 04:44 And Moses took the tabernacle, and pitched it without the camp, 04:47 afar off from the camp, and called it the tabernacle of the 04:51 congregation. And it came to pass, that every one which 04:54 sought the Lord went out unto the tabernacle of the 04:57 congregation, which was without the camp. 04:59 And it came to pass, when Moses went out unto the tabernacle, 05:02 that all the people rose up, and stood every man at his tent 05:04 door, and looked after Moses, until he was gone into the 05:08 tabernacle. And it came to pass, as Moses entered into the 05:12 tabernacle, the cloudy pillar descended, and stood at 05:15 the door of the tabernacle, and the Lord talked with Moses. 05:19 And all the people saw the cloudy pillar stand at the 05:23 tabernacle door: and all the people rose up and worshiped, 05:26 every man in his tent door. 05:29 And the Lord spake unto Moses face to face, 05:32 as a man speaketh unto his friend. 05:35 And he turned again into the camp: but his servant Joshua, 05:39 the son of Nun, a young man, departed not out of the 05:43 tabernacle. And Moses said unto the Lord, 05:46 See, Thou sayest unto me, Bring up this people: 05:50 and Thou has not let me know whom Thou wilt send with me. 05:53 Yet Thou has said, I know thee by name, 05:56 and thou hast also found grace in My sight. 06:00 Now, therefore, I pray Thee, if I have found grace in Thy 06:04 sight, show me now Thy way, that I may know Thee, 06:07 that I may find grace in Thy sight: and consider 06:11 that this nation is Thy people. 06:13 And He said, My presence shall go with thee, 06:17 and I will give thee rest. 06:19 And he said unto Him, If Thy presence go not with me, 06:23 carry us not up hence. 06:25 For wherein shall it be known here that I and Thy people 06:29 have found grace in Thy sight? is it not in that Thou goest 06:32 with us? so shall we be separated, I and Thy people, 06:36 from all the people that are upon the face of the earth. 06:39 And the Lord said unto Moses, I will do this thing also 06:42 that thou has spoken: for thou has found grace 06:46 in my sight, and I know thee by name. 06:49 And he said, I beseech Thee, show me Thy glory. 06:54 And He said, I will make all My goodness pass before thee, 06:59 and I will proclaim the name of the Lord before thee; 07:02 and will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, 07:04 and will show mercy on whom I will show mercy. 07:07 And He said, Thou canst not see My face: 07:10 for there shall no man see me, and live. 07:13 And the Lord said, Behold, there is a place by Me, 07:17 and thou shalt stand upon a rock: 07:19 And it shall come to pass, while My glory passes by, 07:23 that I will put thee in a clift of the rock, 07:25 and will cover thee with My hand while I pass by: 07:28 And I will take away mine hand, and thou shalt see 07:31 my back parts: but My face shall not be seen. 07:35 We are continuing to read in the book of Exodus 07:38 chapter 34. And this is the King James version. 07:41 And the Lord said unto Moses, Hew thee two tables of stone 07:46 like unto the first: and I will write upon these tables 07:49 the words that were in the first tables, which thou breakest. 07:52 And be ready in the morning, 07:54 and come up in the morning unto mount Sinai, 07:56 and present thyself there to Me in the top of the mount. 07:59 And no man shall come up with thee, 08:01 neither let any man be seen throughout all the mount; 08:04 neither let the flocks nor herds feed before that mount. 08:07 And he hewed two tables of stone like unto the first; 08:11 and Moses rose up early in the morning, 08:13 and went up unto mount Sinai as the Lord had commanded him, 08:17 and took in his hand the two tables of stone. 08:20 And the Lord descended in the cloud, and stood with him there, 08:24 and proclaimed the name of the Lord. 08:26 And the Lord passed by before him, and proclaimed, 08:30 The Lord, The Lord God, merciful and gracious, 08:34 long-suffering, and abundant in goodness and truth, 08:38 Keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and 08:41 transgression and sin, and that will by no means 08:45 clear the guilty; visiting the iniquity of the fathers 08:48 upon the children, and upon the children's children, 08:50 unto the third and to the fourth generation. 08:52 And Moses made haste, and bowed his head toward the earth, 08:56 and worshiped. And he said, If now I have found 09:02 grace in Thy sight, O Lord, let my Lord, I pray Thee, 09:06 go among us; for it is a stiffnecked people; 09:09 and pardon our iniquity and our sin, 09:12 and take us for thine inheritance. 09:14 And He said, Behold, I make a covenant: 09:18 before all thy people I will do marvels such as have not 09:22 been done in all the earth, nor in any nation: 09:25 and all the people among which thou art shall see the work of 09:28 the Lord: for it is a terrible thing that I will do with thee. 09:32 Observe thou that which I command thee this day: 09:36 behold, I drive out before thee the Amorite, and the Canaanite, 09:41 and the Hittite, and the Perizzite, 09:42 and the Hivite, and the Jebusite. 09:44 Take heed to thyself, lest thou make a covenant with the 09:47 inhabitants of the land whither thou goest, 09:49 lest it be for a snare in the midst of thee: 09:53 But ye shall destroy their altars, break their images, 09:57 and cut down their groves: 09:58 For thou shalt worship no other god: 10:01 for the Lord, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God: 10:04 Lest thou make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land, 10:07 and they go a whoring after their gods, and do sacrifice 10:11 unto their gods, and one call thee, and thou eat of his 10:13 sacrifice; And thou take of their daughters unto thy sons, 10:17 and their daughters go a whoring after their gods, 10:19 and make thy sons go a whoring after their gods. 10:22 Thou shalt make thee no molten gods. 10:25 The feast of unleavened bread shalt thou keep. 10:28 Seven days thou shalt eat unleavened bread, 10:31 as I commanded thee, in the time of the month Abib: 10:34 for in the month Abib thou camest out from Egypt. 10:37 All that openeth the matrix is mine; 10:39 and every firstling among thy cattle, whether ox or sheep, 10:43 that is male. But the firstling of an ass thou shalt redeem 10:46 with a lamb: and if thou redeem him not, then thou shalt break 10:48 his neck. All the first-born of thy sons thou shalt redeem. 10:53 And none shall appear before Me empty. 10:56 Six days thou shalt work, 10:59 but on the seventh day thou shalt rest; 11:01 in earing time and in harvest thou shalt rest. 11:05 And thou shalt observe the feast of weeks, 11:08 of the first fruits of wheat harvest, 11:10 and the feast of ingathering at the year's end. 11:12 Thrice in the year shall all your men children appear 11:16 before the Lord God, the God of Israel. 11:18 For I will cast out the nations before thee, 11:21 and enlarge thy borders: neither shall any man desire thy land, 11:25 when thou shalt go up to appear before the Lord thy God 11:28 thrice in the year. Thou shalt not offer the blood of my 11:31 sacrifice with leaven; neither shall the sacrifice of the feast 11:34 of the Passover be left unto the morning. 11:36 The first of the first fruits of thy land thou shalt bring 11:40 unto the house of the Lord thy God. 11:42 Thou shalt not seethe a kid in his mother's milk. 11:45 And the Lord said unto Moses, Write thou these words: 11:50 for after the tenor of these words I have made a covenant 11:53 with thee and with Israel. 11:55 And he was there with the Lord forty days and forty nights; 11:59 he did neither eat bread, nor drink water. 12:01 And he wrote upon the tables the words of the covenant, 12:04 the Ten Commandments. 12:06 And it came to pass, when Moses came down from mount Sinai 12:10 with the two tables of testimony in Moses' hand, 12:12 when he came down from the mount, that Moses wist not 12:16 that the skin of his face shone while he talked with him. 12:20 And when Aaron and all the children of Israel saw Moses, 12:24 behold, the skin of his face shone; and they were 12:26 afraid to come nigh him. 12:27 And Moses called unto them; and Aaron and all the rulers 12:30 of the congregation returned unto him: 12:33 and Moses talked with them. 12:35 And afterward all the children of Israel came nigh: 12:38 and he gave them in commandment 12:40 all that the Lord had spoken with him in mount Sinai. 12:43 And till Moses had done speaking with them, 12:46 he put a veil on his face. 12:48 But when Moses went in before the Lord to speak with Him, 12:51 he took the veil off until he came out. 12:53 And he came out, and spake unto the children of Israel 12:56 that which he was commanded. 12:58 And the children of Israel saw the face of Moses, 13:01 that the skin of Moses' face shone: 13:03 and Moses put the veil upon his face again, 13:06 until he went in to speak with Him. 13:08 And we are continuing in the book of Exodus 13:11 in chapter 35, and this is the King James version. 13:14 And Moses gathered all the congregation of the children of 13:18 Israel together, and said unto them, 13:19 These are the words which the Lord hath commanded, 13:22 that ye should do them. 13:23 Six days shall work be done, but on the seventh day 13:27 there shall be to you a holy day, a Sabbath of rest to the 13:31 Lord: whosoever doeth work therein shall be put to death. 13:34 Ye shall kindle no fire throughout your habitations 13:38 upon the Sabbath day. 13:40 And Moses spake unto all the congregation of the children 13:43 of Israel, saying, This is the thing which the Lord commanded, 13:46 saying, Take ye from among you an offering unto the Lord: 13:49 whosoever is of a willing heart, let him bring it, 13:53 an offering of the Lord; gold, and silver, and brass, 13:58 And blue, and purple, and scarlet, and fine linen, 14:00 and goats' hair, and rams' skins dyed red, 14:02 and badgers' skins, and shittim wood, 14:04 and oil for the light, and spices for anointing oil, 14:07 and for the sweet incense, And onyx stones, 14:10 and stones to be set for the ephod and for the breastplate. 14:13 And every wisehearted among you shall come, 14:17 and make all that the Lord hath commanded; 14:20 The tabernacle, his tent, and his covering, his taches, 14:24 and his boards, his bars, his pillars, and his sockets, 14:27 The ark, and the staves thereof, with the mercy seat, 14:30 and the veil of the covering. 14:33 Thank you for being with me to read the Word of God, 14:35 and please join me again next time. Goodbye. |
