00:17 Hi, and welcome back to His Words are Life.
00:18 I'm Kelly Mowrer and today we're going to read from the book of 00:22 Exodus. But before we do, let's pray together. 00:24 Dear God, you see each one of us just now as we're coming 00:30 apart to sit down with your word for these few minutes. 00:33 Please be with us. Please send your Holy Spirit to guide us as 00:39 we hear these words and may they not just fall into our mind 00:44 in a surface way, but may they be rooted deep in our heart 00:47 where they can grow and bring fruit that will glorify your 00:51 name. That's what we long to do; to make you happy with us. 00:54 We love you so much and thank you for loving us. Amen 00:57 When we were last together, we were reading of the plagues 01:02 falling on Egypt as Moses is asking Pharaoh to let his, God's 01:07 people go and he is telling Pharaoh at this point that 01:11 there is going to be darkness over the land of Egypt, 01:14 not just any darkness, but a darkness that can be felt. 01:16 We're picking it up in chapter 10 of Exodus, 01:20 starting with verse 22. And Moses stretched forth his hand 01:24 toward heaven; and there was a thick darkness in all the land 01:28 of Egypt three days: They saw not one another, neither rose 01:32 any from his place for 3 days: but all the children of Israel 01:36 had light in their dwellings. And Pharaoh called unto Moses 01:40 and said, Go ye, serve the Lord; only let your flocks and your 01:44 herds be stayed: let your little ones also go with you. 01:47 And Moses said, Thou must give us also sacrifices and burnt 01:52 offerings that we may sacrifice unto the Lord our God. 01:54 Our cattle also shall go with us: there shall not an hoof 01:58 left behind; for thereof must we take to serve the Lord our God; 02:02 and we know not with what we must serve the Lord, until we 02:05 come thither. But the Lord hardened Pharaoh's heart, 02:09 and he would not let them go. And Pharaoh said unto him, 02:12 Get thee from me, take heed to thyself, see my face no more; 02:16 for in that day thou seest my face thou shalt die. 02:20 And Moses said, Thou hast spoken well, I will see thy face again 02:26 no more. - We're continuing in the book of Exodus, chapter 11. 02:31 This is the King James Version. And the Lord said unto Moses, 02:35 Yet will I bring one plague more upon Pharaoh, and upon Egypt; 02:40 afterwards he will let you go hence; when he shall let you go, 02:45 he shall surely thrust you out hence altogether. 02:48 Speak now in the ears of the people, and let every man borrow 02:52 of his neighbor, and every woman of her neighbor, 02:55 jewels of silver, and jewels of gold. And the Lord gave the 02:59 people favor in the sight of the Egyptians. Moreover the man 03:03 Moses was very great in the land of Egypt, in the sight of 03:06 Pharaoh's servants, and in the sight of the people. 03:08 And Moses said, Thus saith the Lord, About midnight will I go 03:13 out unto the midst of Egypt: And all the firstborn in the 03:16 land of Egypt shall die, from the firstborn of Pharaoh that 03:20 sitteth upon his throne, even unto the firstborn of the 03:22 maidservant that is behind the mill; and all the firstborn 03:26 of beasts. And there shall be a great cry throughout all 03:29 the land of Egypt such as there was none like it, nor shall be 03:33 like it anymore. But against any of the children of Israel 03:37 shall not a dog move his tongue, against man or beast: 03:41 that ye may know how that the Lord doth put a difference 03:44 between the Egyptians and Israel and all these thy servants shall 03:49 come down unto me, and bow down themselves unto me, saying, 03:52 Get thee out and all the people that follow thee: and after that 03:57 I will go out. And he went out from Pharaoh in a great anger. 04:02 And the Lord said unto Moses, Pharaoh shall not hearken unto 04:05 you; that my wonders may be multiplied in the land of Egypt. 04:08 And Moses and Aaron did all these wonders before Pharaoh: 04:12 and the Lord hardened Pharaoh's heart, so that he would not let 04:16 the children of Israel go out of his land. 04:18 Continuing with Exodus chapter 12. 04:21 This is the King James Version. 04:22 And the Lord spake unto Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt, 04:27 saying, This month shall be unto you the beginning of months: 04:31 it shall be the first month of the year to you. 04:34 Speak ye unto all the congregation of Israel, 04:37 saying, In the tenth day of this month they shall take 04:40 to them every man a lamb, according to the house of 04:44 their fathers, a lamb for a house. And if the household 04:48 be too little for the lamb, let him and his neighbor next unto 04:51 his house take it according to the number of the souls; 04:54 every man according to his eating shall make your count 04:58 for the Lamb. Your lamb shall be without blemish, a male of the 05:02 first year: ye shall take it out from the sheep, or from the 05:06 goats: And ye shall keep it up until the 14th day of the same 05:09 month: and the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel 05:12 shall kill it in the evening. And they shall take of the blood 05:16 and strike it on the two side posts and on the upper door 05:20 post of the houses, wherein they shall eat it. And they shall eat 05:24 the flesh in that night, roast with fire, and unleavened bread; 05:28 and with bitter herbs they shall eat it. Eat not of it raw, nor 05:34 sodden at all with water, but roast with fire; his head with 05:38 his legs, and with the pertinence thereof. 05:40 And ye shall let nothing of it remain until the morning; 05:44 and that which remaineth of it until the morning ye shall burn 05:47 with fire. And thus shall ye eat it; with your loins girded, 05:51 your shoes on your feet, and your staff in your hand; 05:54 and ye shall eat it in haste; it is the Lord's passover. 05:58 For I will pass through the land of Egypt this night, 06:01 and will smite all the first born in the land of Egypt, 06:05 both man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will 06:09 execute judgment: I am the Lord. And the blood shall be to you 06:15 for a token upon the houses where ye are: and when I see the 06:19 blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you 06:24 to destroy you, when I smite the land of Egypt. 06:26 And this day shall be unto you for a memorial; and ye shall 06:31 keep it a feast to the Lord throughout your generations; 06:34 ye shall keep it a feast by an ordinance for ever. 06:37 Seven days shall ye eat unleavened bread; 06:40 even the first day ye shall put away leaven out of your 06:42 houses: for whosoever eateth leavened bread from the 1st day 06:46 until the 7th day, that soul shall be cut off from Israel. 06:49 And in the first day there shall be an holy convocation, 06:53 and in the seventh day there shall be an holy convocation 06:55 to you; no manner of work shall be done in them, save that which 07:00 every man must eat, that only may be done of you. 07:04 And ye shall observe the feast of unleavened bread; for in 07:08 this selfsame day have I brought your armies out of the land of 07:12 Egypt: therefore shall ye observe this day in your 07:16 generations by an ordinance for ever. In the first month, 07:20 on the fourteenth day of the month, at even, ye shall eat 07:24 unleavened bread, until the one and twentieth day of the month 07:27 at even. Seven days shall there be no leaven found in your 07:32 houses: for whosoever eateth that which is leavened, 07:35 even that soul shall be cut off from the congregation of Israel, 07:39 whether he be a stranger, or born in the land. Ye shall eat 07:43 nothing leavened; in all your habitations shall ye eat 07:47 unleavened bread. Then Moses called for all the elders of 07:51 Israel, and said unto them, Draw out and take you a lamb 07:54 according to you families, and kill the passover. 07:58 And ye shall take a bunch of hyssop, and dip it in the blood 08:01 that is in the basin, and strike the lintel and the two side 08:04 posts with the blood that is in the basin; and none of you 08:07 shall go out at that door of his house until the morning. 08:10 For the Lord will pass through to smite the Egyptians; 08:14 and when he seeth the blood upon the lintel, and on the two 08:18 side posts, the Lord will pass over the door, and will not 08:21 suffer the destroyer to come in unto your houses to smite 08:24 you. And ye shall observe this thing for an ordinance to thee 08:28 and to thy sons forever. And it shall come to pass, when ye be 08:33 come to the land which the Lord will give you, according as he 08:37 hath promised, that ye shall keep this service. 08:39 And it shall come to pass, when your children shall say unto you 08:43 What mean ye by this service? That ye shall say, 08:46 It is the sacrifice of the Lord's passover, who passed over 08:50 the houses of the children of Israel in Egypt, when he smote 08:54 the Egyptians, and delivered our houses. And the people 08:58 bowed the head and worshipped. And the children of Israel 09:03 went away, and did as the Lord had commanded Moses and Aaron, 09:06 so did they. And it came to pass that at midnight the Lord smote 09:11 all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, from the firstborn 09:14 of Pharaoh that sat on his throne unto the firstborn 09:17 of the captive that was in the dungeon; and all the firstborn 09:21 of cattle. And Pharaoh rose up in the night, he, and all his 09:25 servants, and all the Egyptians; and there was a great cry 09:28 in Egypt; for there was not a house where there was not 09:32 one dead. And he called for Moses and Aaron by night, 09:36 and said, Rise up, and get you forth from among my people, 09:39 both ye and the children of Israel; and go, serve the Lord 09:42 as ye have said. Also take your flocks and your herds, 09:45 as ye have said, and be gone; and bless me also. 09:49 And the Egyptians were urgent upon the people, that they might 09:53 send them out of the land in haste; for they said, 09:55 We be all dead men. And the people took their dough 09:59 before it was leavened, their kneadingtroughs being bound up 10:02 in their clothes upon their shoulders. And the children 10:05 of Israel did according to the word of Moses; and they borrowed 10:08 of the Egyptians jewels of silver, and jewels of gold, 10:12 and raiment: And the Lord gave the people favor in the sight 10:16 of the Egyptians, so that they lent unto them such things 10:19 as they required. And they spoiled the Egyptians. 10:22 And the children of Israel journeyed from Rameses 10:25 to Succoth about 600,000 on foot that were men, beside children 10:29 And a mixed multitude went up also with them; and flocks, 10:33 and herds, even very much cattle. And they baked 10:37 unleavened cakes of the dough which they brought forth out of 10:40 Egypt, for it was not leavened; because they were thrust out of 10:43 Egypt, and could not tarry, neither had they prepared for 10:46 themselves any victual. Now the sojourning of the children of 10:50 Israel, who dwelt in Egypt, was 430 years. And it came to pass 10:55 at the end of the 430 years, even the selfsame day 10:59 it came to pass, that all the hosts of the Lord went out 11:03 from the land of Egypt. It is a night to be much observed 11:08 unto the Lord for bringing them out from the land of Egypt. 11:11 This is that night of the Lord to be observed of all the 11:14 children of Israel in their generations. 11:16 And the Lord said unto Moses and Aaron, This is ordinance 11:20 of the passover: There shall no stranger eat thereof: 11:24 But every man's servant that is bought for money, 11:27 when thou hast circumcised him, then shall he eat thereof. 11:31 A foreigner and an hired servant shall not eat thereof. 11:35 In one house shall it be eaten; thou shalt not carry forth aught 11:39 of the flesh abroad out of the house; neither shall ye 11:42 break a bone thereof. All the congregation of Israel 11:46 shall keep it. And when a stranger shall sojourn with thee 11:50 and will keep the passover to the Lord, let all his males 11:53 be circumcised, and then let him come near and keep it; 11:57 and he shall be as one that is born in the land: 11:59 for no uncircumcised person shall eat thereof. 12:03 One law shall be to him that is homeborn, and unto the stranger 12:08 that sojourneth among you. Thus did all the children of 12:11 Israel; as the Lord commanded Moses and Aaron, so did they. 12:15 And it came to pass the selfsame day, that the Lord 12:19 did bring the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt 12:23 by their armies. We're continuing to read in 12:26 Exodus, the deliverance of God. This is chapter 13, 12:30 and this is the King James Version. 12:31 And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying, Sanctify unto me all the 12:36 firstborn, whatsoever openeth the womb among the children 12:39 of Israel, both of man and of beast: it is mine. 12:42 And Moses said unto the people, Remember this day, in which ye 12:46 came out from Egypt, out of the house of bondage; 12:48 for by strength of hand the Lord brought you out from this place: 12:52 there shall no leavened bread be eaten. This day came ye out 12:56 in the month Abib. And it shall be when the Lord shall bring 13:00 thee into the land of the Canaanites, and the Hittites, 13:02 and the Amorites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites, 13:04 which he sware unto thy fathers to give thee, a land flowing 13:08 with milk and honey, that thou shalt keep this service in this 13:12 month. Seven days thou shalt eat unleavened bread, and in the 13:16 seventh day shall be a feast to the Lord. Unleavened bread 13:20 shall be eaten seven days and there shall no leavened bread be 13:23 seen with thee, neither shall there be leaven seen with thee 13:27 in all thy quarters. And thou shalt shew thy son in that day, 13:31 saying, This is done because of that which the Lord did unto me 13:35 when I came forth out of Egypt. And it shall be for a 13:39 sign unto thee upon thine hand, and for a memorial between 13:43 thine eyes, that the Lord's law may be in thy mouth: 13:46 for with a strong hand hath the Lord brought thee out of 13:50 Egypt. Thou shalt therefore keep this ordinance in his 13:54 season from year to year. And it shall be when the Lord shall 13:58 bring thee into the land of the Canaanites, as he sware unto 14:00 thee and to they fathers, and shall give it thee. 14:03 That thou shalt set apart unto the Lord all that openeth the 14:07 matrix, and every firstling that cometh of a beast 14:10 which thou hast; the males shall be the Lord's. 14:13 And every firstling of an ass thou shalt redeem with a lamb; 14:17 and if thou wilt not redeem it, then thou shalt break his neck: 14:20 and all the firstborn of man among thy children shalt thou 14:24 redeem. Thank you for joining with me 14:27 to read the word of God today, and until next time, 14:29 may God keep you and bless you. Goodbye. |
