00:17 Hi and welcome back to His Words Are Life.
00:19 Thank you for joining with me 00:21 today to read the Word of God. 00:22 Before we tape, the crew and I pray together. 00:26 And today as Mitch prayed, 00:27 he prayed that in the taping of these programs 00:30 that when they aired and went into your house 00:33 that the Holy Spirit would be with each of you 00:34 who are watching right now 00:36 and that the Holy Spirit would guide your hearts 00:38 as you hear these words. 00:39 That they would be a comfort and a guide to you 00:42 to bear fruit in your life. 00:43 Now before we start to read together, let's pray as well. 00:46 Dear God, thank you so much for the opportunity to 00:50 study and to read... and to be comforted... 00:53 by the words that You have sent to us 00:55 to be a lamp to our feet. 00:57 And yes, please, as Mitch prayed, may Your Holy Spirit 01:01 be with us now and touch each of our lives 01:04 so that we will not be the same at the end of this program 01:07 as we are right now... we will be a little closer to You 01:10 and a little more usable by You. 01:12 We love You so much, and thank you for loving us. Amen. 01:15 When we were last together we were reading the story of 01:19 Abram and Sarah going to Egypt and Abram being so concerned 01:23 about Sarah's beauty that he had her lie 01:26 and say she was his sister and not his wife. 01:29 And because of Pharaoh and his interest in Sarah 01:33 God had plagued Pharaoh's house. 01:36 Now we are picking up on this story in Genesis chapter 12, 01:40 verse 18, and this is the King James version. 01:43 And Pharaoh called Abram, and said, 01:46 "What is this that thou hast done unto me? 01:49 Why didst thou not tell me that she was thy wife? 01:51 Why saidst thou, She is my sister? 01:54 So I might have taken her to me to wife: 01:56 Now therefore behold thy wife, take her, and go thy way. " 02:00 And Pharaoh commanded his men concerning him: 02:03 and they sent him away, and his wife, and all that he had. 02:07 We are continuing now with Genesis chapter 13. 02:10 And Abram went up out of Egypt, he, and his wife, 02:14 and all that he had, and Lot with him, into the south. 02:18 And Abram was very rich in cattle, in silver, and in gold. 02:23 And he went on his journeys from the south even to Bethel, 02:26 unto the place where his tent had been at the beginning, 02:29 between Bethel and Hai; 02:31 Unto the place of the altar, which he had made there 02:34 at the first: and there Abram called on the name of the Lord. 02:38 And Lot also, which went with Abram, had flocks, and herds, 02:43 and tents. And the land was not able to bear them, 02:46 that they might dwell together: for their substance was great, 02:49 so that they could not dwell together. 02:52 And there was a strife between the herdsmen of Abram's cattle 02:55 and the herdsmen of Lot's cattle: and the 02:58 Canaanite and the Perizzite dwelled then in the land. 03:01 And Abram said unto Lot, "Let there be no strife, 03:05 I pray thee, between me and thee, and between my herdsmen 03:09 and thy herdsmen: for we be brethren. 03:12 Is not the whole land before thee? 03:14 Separate thyself, I pray thee, from me: 03:17 If thou wilt take the left hand, then I will go to the right; 03:21 Or if thou depart to the right hand, 03:23 then I will go to the left. " 03:25 And Lot lifted up his eyes, 03:28 and beheld all the plain of Jordan, that it was well watered 03:32 every where, before the Lord destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, 03:35 even as the garden of the Lord, 03:37 like the land of Egypt, as thou comest unto Zoar. 03:39 Then Lot chose him all the plain of Jordan; 03:44 and Lot journeyed east: and they separated themselves 03:48 the one from the other. 03:49 Abraham dwelled in the land of Canaan, 03:52 and Lot dwelled in the cities of the plain, 03:54 and pitched his tent toward Sodom. 03:57 But the men of Sodom were wicked 03:59 and sinners before the Lord exceedingly. 04:02 And the Lord said unto Abram, after that Lot was separated 04:06 from him, "Lift up now thine eyes, and look from the place 04:11 where thou art northward, and southward, and eastward, 04:15 and westward: For all the land which thou seest, 04:19 to thee will I give it, and to thy seed for ever. 04:22 And I will make thy seed as the dust of the earth: 04:25 so that if a man can number the dust of the earth, 04:28 then shall thy seed also be numbered. 04:31 Arise, walk through the land in the length of it 04:36 and in the breadth of it; for I will give it unto thee. " 04:39 Then Abram removed his tent, and came and dwelt in the plain 04:44 of Mamre, which is in Hebron, 04:46 and built there an altar unto the Lord. 04:49 We are reading now in the book 04:50 of Genesis chapter 14, and this 04:52 is the King James version. 04:53 And it came to pass in the days of Amraphel king of Shinar, 04:59 Arioch king of Ellasar, Chedorlaomer king of Elam, 05:04 and Tidal king of nations; 05:06 That these made war with Bera king of Sodom, 05:09 and with Birsha king of Gomorrah, 05:11 Shinab king of Admah, and Shemeber king of Zeboiim, 05:16 and the king of Bela, which is Zoar. 05:18 All these were joined together in the vale of Siddim, 05:21 which is the salt sea. 05:23 Twelve years they served Chedorlaomer, 05:27 and in the thirteenth year they rebelled. 05:29 And in the fourteenth year came Chedorlaomer, 05:32 and the kings that were with him, and smote the Rephaim 05:35 in Ashteroth-Karnaim, and the Zurzim in Ham, 05:40 and the Emim in Shaveh-Kiriathaim, 05:43 And the Horites in their mount Seir, unto Elparan, 05:47 which is by the wilderness. 05:48 And they returned, and came to Enmishpat, which is Kadesh, 05:53 and smote all the country of the Amalekites, 05:56 and also the Amorites, that dwelt in Hazezontamar. 05:59 And there went out the king of Sodom, and the king of Gomorrah, 06:03 and the king of Admah, and the king of Zeboiim, 06:06 and the king of Bela - the same is Zoar - 06:08 and they joined battle with them in the vale of Siddim; 06:11 With Chedorlaomer the king of Elam, 06:14 and with Tidal king of nations, 06:16 and Amraphel king of Shinar, and Arioch king of Ellasar; 06:21 four kings with five. 06:23 And the vale of Siddim was full of slimepits; 06:26 and the kings of Sodom and Gomorrah fled, and fell there; 06:30 and they that remained fled to the mountain. 06:33 And they took all the goods of Sodom and Gomorrah, 06:37 and all their victuals, and went their way. 06:39 And they took Lot, Abram's brother's son, 06:43 who dwelt in Sodom, and his goods, and departed. 06:46 And there came one that had escaped, and told Abram 06:49 the Hebrew; for he dwelt in the plain of Mamre the Amorite, 06:53 brother of Eshcol, and brother of Aner: and these were 06:57 confederate with Abram. 06:59 And when Abram heard that his brother was taken captive, 07:02 he armed his trained servants, born in his own house, 07:07 three hundred and eighteen, and pursued them unto Dan. 07:10 And he divided himself against them, 07:13 he and his servants, by night, and smote them, 07:16 and pursued them unto Hobah, 07:19 which is on the left hand of Damascus. 07:21 And he brought back all the goods, and also brought again 07:24 his brother Lot, and his goods, 07:26 and the women also, and the people. 07:28 And the king of Sodom went out to meet him after his return 07:33 from the slaughter of Chedorlaomer, 07:35 and of the kings that were with him, 07:36 at the valley of Shaveh, which is the king's dale. 07:40 And Melchizedek king of Salem brought forth bread and wine: 07:45 and he was the priest of the most high God. 07:48 And he blessed him, and said, "Blessed be Abram of the most 07:52 high God, possessor of heaven and earth: 07:55 And blessed be the most high God, which hath delivered thine 07:58 enemies into thy hand. " And he gave him tithes of all. 08:03 And the king of Sodom said unto Abram, "Give me the persons, 08:07 and take the goods to thyself. " 08:09 And Abram said to the king of Sodom, 08:12 "I have lift up mine hand unto the Lord, the most high God, 08:15 the possessor of heaven and earth, 08:18 That I will not take from a thread even to a shoelatch, 08:22 and that I will not take any thing that is thine, 08:25 lest thou shouldest say, I have made Abram rich: 08:29 Save only that which the young men have eaten, 08:32 and the portion of the men which went with me, 08:34 Aner, Eshcol, and Mamre; let them take their portion. " 08:39 Continuing now with chapter 15. 08:41 After these things the word of the Lord came unto Abram 08:45 in a vision, saying, "Fear not, Abram: 08:47 I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward. " 08:53 And Abram said, "Lord God, what wilt Thou give me, 08:58 seeing I go childless, and the steward of my house is this 09:02 Eliezer of Damascus? " 09:04 And Abram said, "Behold, to me Thou has given no seed: 09:08 and, lo, one born in my house is mine heir. " 09:12 And behold, the word of the Lord came unto him, saying, 09:16 "This shall not be thine heir; but he that shall come forth 09:21 out of thine own bowels shall be thine heir. " 09:23 And He brought him forth abroad, and said, 09:26 "Look now toward heaven, and tell the stars, 09:29 if thou be able to number them: " 09:30 and he said unto him, "So shall thy seed be. " 09:34 And he believed in the Lord; 09:37 and He counted it to him for righteousness. 09:41 And He said unto him, "I am the Lord that brought thee 09:44 out of Ur of the Chaldees, 09:46 to give thee this land to inherit it. " 09:49 And he said, "Lord God, whereby shall I know 09:53 that I shall inherit it? " 09:55 And He said unto him, "Take Me a heifer of three years old, 10:00 and a she goat of three years old, 10:02 and a ram of three years old, and a turtledove, 10:05 and a young pigeon. " 10:06 And he took unto him all these, 10:09 and divided them in the midst, 10:11 and laid each piece one against another: 10:13 but the birds divided he not. 10:15 And when the fowls came down upon the carcasses, 10:19 Abram drove them away. 10:20 And when the sun was going down, a deep sleep fell upon Abram; 10:25 and, lo, a horror of great darkness fell upon him. 10:31 And He said unto Abram, "Know of a surety that thy seed 10:35 shall be a stranger in a land that is not theirs, 10:38 and shall serve them; 10:40 and they shall afflict them four hundred years; 10:43 And also that nation, whom they shall serve, 10:46 will I judge: and afterward shall they come out 10:48 with great substance. And thou shalt go to thy fathers 10:52 in peace; thou shalt be buried in a good old age. 10:55 But in the fourth generation they shall come hither again: 10:58 for the iniquity of the Amorites is not yet full. " 11:01 And it came to pass, that, when the sun went down, 11:05 and it was dark, behold a smoking furnace, 11:09 and a burning lamp that passed between those pieces. 11:13 In the same day the Lord made a covenant with Abram, saying, 11:16 "Unto thy seed have I given this land, from the river of Egypt 11:21 unto the great river, the river Euphrates: 11:24 The Kenites, and the Kenizzetes, and the Kadmonites, 11:27 and the Hittites, and the Perizzites, and the Rephaim, 11:31 and the Amorites, and the Canaanites, 11:33 and the Girgashites, and the Jebusites. " 11:35 Continuing with chapter 16. 11:38 Now Sarai, Abram's wife, 11:41 bare him no children: 11:42 and she had a handmaid, 11:44 an Egyptian, whose name was Hagar. 11:46 And Sarai said unto Abram, "Behold now, the Lord hath 11:50 restrained me from bearing: I pray thee, go in unto my maid; 11:55 it may be that I may obtain children by her. " 11:58 And Abram hearkened to the voice of Sarai. 12:02 And Sarai, Abram's wife, took Hagar her maid the Egyptian, 12:06 after Abram had dwelt ten years in the land of Canaan, 12:09 and gave her to her husband Abram to be his wife. 12:13 And he went in unto Hagar, and she conceived: 12:17 and when she saw that she had conceived, 12:20 her mistress was despised in her eyes. 12:23 And Sarai said unto Abram, "My wrong be upon thee: 12:28 I have given my maid into thy bosom: and when she saw 12:31 that she had conceived, I was despised in her eyes: 12:34 the Lord judge between me and thee. " 12:37 But Abram said unto Sarai, "Behold, thy maid is in 12:42 thy hand; do to her as it pleaseth thee. " 12:45 And when Sarai dealt hardly with her, she fled from her face. 12:51 And the angel of the Lord found her by a fountain of water 12:55 in the wilderness, by the fountain in the way to Shur. 12:58 And he said, "Hagar, Sarai's maid, 13:02 whence camest thou? and whither wilt thou go? " 13:06 And she said, "I flee from the face of my mistress Sarai. " 13:10 And the angel of the Lord said unto her, 13:14 "Return to thy mistress, 13:16 and submit thyself under her hands. " 13:19 And the angel of the Lord said unto her, 13:21 "I will multiply thy seed exceedingly, 13:25 that it shall not be numbered for multitude. " 13:27 And the angel of the Lord said unto her, 13:29 "Behold, thou art with child, and shalt bear a son, 13:32 and shalt call his name Ishmael; 13:35 because the Lord hath heard thy affliction. 13:38 And he will be a wild man; his hand will be against every 13:42 man, and every man's hand against him: 13:44 and he shall dwell in the presence of all his brethren. " 13:48 And she called the name of the Lord that spake unto her, 13:51 "Thou God seest me: " for she said, 13:54 "Have I also here looked after him that seeth me? " 13:58 Wherefore the well was called Beerlahairoi; 14:02 behold, it is between Kadesh and Bered. 14:04 And Hagar bare Abram a son: and Abram called his son's name, 14:09 which Hagar bare, Ishmael. 14:11 And Abram was fourscore and six years old, 14:15 when Hagar bare Ishmael to Abram. 14:19 Thank you for being with me today to read the Word of God. 14:22 And... till we meet again... may God strengthen you 14:26 in your walk with Him and your faith - so that you may serve 14:30 Him and serve others better to His glory. 14:33 Thank you and goodbye. |
