00:17 Hello, and welcome to His Words Are Life.
00:19 I'm Kelly Mowrer, and thank you for being with me today to read
00:22 the word of God.
00:23 When we were last together we were reading in Hebrews about
00:26 our High Priest in the heaven.
00:28 And we're going to continue on with that, but before we do,
00:30 let's pray together.
00:32 Dear Jesus, thank You so much that You are our High Priest,
00:38 and that You are constantly making intercession for us;
00:41 That You were tempted every way that we have been tempted, and
00:45 yet You were without sin.
00:46 You layed down Your life for us to redeem us and make us Your
00:50 own, and that's what we want most to be.
00:52 Please guide us now as we read so that we can take these words
00:56 and become more like You through the power of Your word.
00:59 We love You so much, and thank You for loving us.
01:02 Amen.
01:03 (Again, we're reading today from the book of Hebrews.
01:06 And this is the King James Version, Chapter 8, starting
01:10 with verse 2.)
01:11 A minister of the sanctuary, and of the true tabernacle,
01:16 which the Lord pitched, and not man.
01:19 For every high priest is ordained to offer gifts and
01:22 sacrifices: wherefore it is of necessity that this man have
01:27 somewhat also to offer.
01:29 For if he were on earth, he should not be a priest,
01:33 seeing that there are priests that offer gifts according
01:36 to the law: who serve unto the example and shadow of heavenly
01:40 things, as Moses was admonished of God when he was about to make
01:44 the tabernacle: for, See, saith he, that thou make all things
01:49 according to the pattern showed to thee in the mount.
01:52 But now hath he obtained a more excellent ministry, by how much
01:58 also he is the mediator of a better covenant, which was
02:02 established upon better promises.
02:05 For if that first covenant had been faultless, then should no
02:09 place have been sought for the second.
02:11 For finding fault with them, he saith, Behold, the days come,
02:16 saith the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of
02:19 Israel and with the house of Judah: not according to the
02:23 covenant that I made with their fathers in the day when I took
02:26 them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt;
02:28 because they continued not in my covenant, and I regarded them
02:32 not, saith the Lord.
02:33 For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of
02:37 Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws
02:42 into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be
02:46 to them a God, and they shall be to me a people: and they shall
02:51 not teach every man his neighbor, and every man his
02:54 brother, saying, Know the Lord: for all shall know me,
02:59 from the least to the greatest.
03:02 For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins
03:07 and their iniquities will I remember no more.
03:10 In that he saith, A new covenant, he hath made
03:14 the first old.
03:16 Now that which decayeth and waxeth old is ready
03:21 to vanish away.
03:22 (We're continuing to read in Hebrews, Chapter 9.
03:26 This is the King James Version.)
03:28 Then verily the first covenant had also ordinances of divine
03:34 service, and a wordly sanctuary.
03:37 For there was a tabernacle made; the first, wherein was the
03:41 candlestick, and the table, and the showbread; which is called
03:44 the sanctuary.
03:45 And after the second veil, the tabernacle which is called the
03:50 Holiest of all; which had the golden censer, and the ark of
03:55 the covenant overlaid round about with gold, wherein was the
03:59 golden pot that had manna, and Aaron's rod that budded,
04:03 and the tables of the covenant; and over it the cherubim of
04:07 glory shadowing the mercy seat; of which we cannot now
04:11 speak particularly.
04:13 Now when these things were thus ordained, the priests went
04:17 always into the first tabernacle, accomplishing the
04:19 service of God.
04:20 But into the second went the high priest alone once every
04:26 year, not without blood, which he offered for himself,
04:30 and for the errors of the people: the Holy Ghost
04:35 this signifying, that the way into the holiest of all was not
04:39 yet made manifest, while as the first tabernacle was yet
04:44 standing: which was a figure for the time then present,
04:48 in which were offered both gifts and sacrifices, that could
04:52 not make him that did the service perfect, as pertaining
04:56 to the conscience; which stood only in meats and drinks,
05:00 and divers washings, and carnal ordinances, imposed on them
05:05 until the time of reformation.
05:08 But Christ being come an high priest of good things to come,
05:14 by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands,
05:18 that is to say, not of this building; neither by the blood
05:23 of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once
05:28 into the holy place, having obtained eternal
05:32 redemption for us.
05:33 For if the blood of bulls and of goats, and the ashes of a heifer
05:38 sprinkling the unclean, sanctifieth to the purifying of
05:42 the flesh: how much more shall the blood of Christ, who through
05:48 the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God,
05:52 purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?
05:57 And for this cause he is the mediator of the new testament,
06:02 that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions
06:06 that were under the first testament, they which are called
06:10 might receive the promise of eternal inheritance.
06:14 For where a testament is, there must also of necessity be the
06:19 death of the testator.
06:20 For a testament is of force after men are dead: otherwise
06:25 it is of no strength at all while the testator liveth.
06:29 Whereupon neither the first testament was dedicated
06:33 without blood.
06:34 For when Moses had spoken every precept to all the people
06:39 according to the law, he took the blood of calves and of
06:42 goats, with water, and scarlet wool, and hyssop, and sprinkled
06:47 both the book, and all the people, saying, This is the
06:52 blood of the testament which God hath enjoined unto you.
06:56 Moreover he sprinkled with blood both the tabernacle, and all the
07:01 vessels of the ministry.
07:02 And almost all things are by the law purged with blood;
07:08 and without shedding of blood is no remission.
07:12 It was therefore necessary that the patterns of things in the
07:17 heavens should be purified with these; but the heavenly things
07:21 themselves with better sacrifices than these.
07:25 For Christ is not entered into the holy places made with hands,
07:29 which are the figures of the true; but into heaven itself,
07:34 now to appear in the presence of God for us: nor yet that he
07:40 should offer himself often, as the high priest entereth into
07:43 the holy place every year with blood of others; for then must
07:48 he often have suffered since the foundation of the world:
07:51 but now once in the end of the world hath he appeared to put
07:57 away sin by the sacrifice of himself.
08:00 And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the
08:06 judgment: so Christ was once offered to bear the sins of
08:10 many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the
08:15 second time without sin unto salvation.
08:19 (We're continuing to read from the book of Hebrews, and this is
08:22 the King James Version. We're turning now to Chapter 10.)
08:26 For the law having a shadow of good things to come, and not the
08:31 very image of the things, can never with those sacrifices,
08:36 which they offered year by year continually, make the comers
08:40 thereunto perfect.
08:42 For then would they not have ceased to be offered?
08:45 because that the worshipers once purged should have had no more
08:50 conscience of sins.
08:51 But in those sacrifices there is a remembrance again
08:56 made of sins every year.
08:57 For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats
09:01 should take away sins.
09:03 Wherefore when he cometh into the world, he saith, Sacrifice
09:08 and offering thou wouldest not, but a body hast thou prepared
09:13 me: in burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin thou hast
09:18 had no pleasure.
09:19 Then said I, Lo I come (in the volume of the book it is written
09:26 of me) to do thy will, O God.
09:29 Above when he said, Sacrifice and offering and burnt offerings
09:34 and offering for sin thou wouldest not, neither hadst
09:37 pleasure therein; which are offered by the law; then said
09:41 he, Lo, I come to do thy will, O God.
09:45 He taketh away the first, that he may establish the second.
09:50 By the which will we are sanctified through the offering
09:54 of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.
09:58 And every priest standeth daily ministering and offering
10:03 oftentimes the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins:
10:07 but this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins
10:12 for ever, sat down on the right hand of God; from henceforth
10:17 expecting till his enemies be made his footstool.
10:21 For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them
10:26 that are sanctified.
10:27 Whereof the Holy Ghost also is a witness to us: for after that
10:33 he had said before, This is the covenant that I will make with
10:37 them after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into
10:42 their hearts, and in their minds will I write them; and their
10:47 sins and iniquities will I remember no more.
10:50 Now where remission of these is, there is no more
10:55 offering for sin.
10:56 Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the
11:01 holiest by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way,
11:05 which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to
11:10 say, his flesh; and having an high priest over the house of
11:14 God; let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of
11:20 faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil
11:23 conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water.
11:26 Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering;
11:30 and let us consider
11:35 one another to provoke unto love and to good works:
11:39 not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together,
11:43 as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so
11:47 much the more, as ye see the day approaching.
11:49 For if we sin willfully after that we have received the
11:53 knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more
11:56 sacrifice for sins, but a certain fearful looking for of
12:00 judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour
12:04 the adversaries.
12:05 He that despised Moses' law died without mercy under two or
12:10 three witnesses: of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye,
12:16 shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the
12:20 Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith
12:24 he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite
12:28 unto the Spirit of grace?
12:30 For we know him that hath said, Vengeance belongeth unto me,
12:35 I will recompense, saith the Lord.
12:37 And again, The Lord shall judge his people.
12:41 It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands
12:45 of the living God.
12:46 But call to remembrance the former days, in which, after ye
12:52 were illuminated, ye endured a great fight of afflictions;
12:56 partly, whilst ye were made a gazingstock both by reproaches
13:01 and afflictions; and partly, whilst ye became companions of
13:05 them that were so used.
13:07 For ye had compassion of me in my bonds, and took joyfully the
13:12 spoiling of your goods, knowing in yourselves that ye have in
13:16 heaven a better and an enduring substance.
13:19 Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great
13:24 recompense of reward.
13:26 For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the
13:30 will of God, ye might receive the promise.
13:33 For yet a little while, and he that shall come will come,
13:38 and will not tarry.
13:39 Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draw
13:45 back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him.
13:48 But we are not of them who draw back unto perdition; but of them
13:53 that believe to the saving of the soul.
13:59 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence
14:05 of things not seen.
14:07 For by it the elders obtained a good report.
14:11 Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the
14:15 word of God, so that things which are seen were not made
14:19 of things which do appear.
14:21 (Thank you for joining with me today to read the word of God.
14:25 And until we're together again, may God strengthen the faith of
14:29 each one of us, that we would walk closer with Him, and be
14:32 pleasing in His sight.)
