00:16 Hi, and welcome back to His Words Are Life.
00:19 I'm Kelly Mowrer, and today we're reading from the 00:22 2nd book of Timothy, 00:23 but before we begin, let's pray together. 00:26 Dear Jesus, today, right now around the world, your children 00:32 are coming apart from the different things that take our 00:36 time, and our attention, and our hands, and our hearts, 00:40 and our minds, 00:41 we're stepping into your presence especially right now 00:44 to read your word. 00:45 Please guide us, and may the words that we read here 00:49 strengthen us, to go back to whatever it is that we face 00:53 right now, 00:54 but not to go back like we were just a few minutes ago, 00:57 but to go back changed, more like You, and ready to do Your 01:02 will in whatever way we can. 01:03 We love You so much, 01:04 thank You for loving us. 01:06 Amen. 01:07 When we last were together, we were reading from the 2nd 01:11 letter to Timothy, and 01:13 Paul was writing about the house of Onesiphorus, and how that he 01:20 wished God's mercy on that house, because how often 01:24 Onesiphorus came to him, Paul, and refreshed him. 01:26 He was not ashamed that his friend Paul was in prison. 01:30 We pick up now with verse 17, chapter 1 of 2 Timothy. 01:35 But, when he... was in Rome, 01:40 he sought me out very diligently, and found me. 01:43 The Lord grant unto him that he may find mercy of the Lord 01:47 in that day: and in how many things he ministered unto me at 01:51 Ephesus, thou knowest very well. Continuing with chapter 2. 01:57 Thou therefore, my son, be strong in the grace 02:00 that is in Christ Jesus. 02:02 And the things that thou hast heard of me among many 02:04 witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be 02:08 able to teach others also. 02:10 Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier 02:14 of Jesus Christ. 02:15 No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this 02:20 life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier. 02:24 And if a man also strive for masteries, yet is he not 02:29 crowned, except he strive lawfully. 02:31 The husbandmen that laboreth must be first partaker 02:35 of the fruits. 02:37 Consider what I say; and the Lord give thee understanding 02:40 in all things. 02:41 Remember that Jesus Christ of the seed of David was raised 02:46 from the dead, according to my gospel: wherein I suffer 02:49 trouble, as an evildoer, even unto bonds; but the word of God 02:54 is not bound. 02:55 Therefore I endure all things for the elect's sakes, that they 03:00 may also obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus 03:03 with eternal glory. 03:05 It is a faithful saying: for if we be dead with him, we shall 03:09 also live with him: if we suffer, we shall also reign 03:14 with him: if we deny him, he also will deny us: 03:20 if we believe not, yet he abideth faithful: he cannot 03:26 deny himself. 03:27 Of these things put them in remembrance, charging them 03:31 before the Lord that they strive not about words to no profit, 03:36 but to the subverting of the hearers. 03:38 Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth 03:44 not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. 03:48 But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will 03:53 increase unto more ungodliness. 03:56 And their word will eat as doth a canker: of whom is Hymenaeus 04:02 and Philetus; who concerning the truth have erred, saying that 04:07 the resurrection is past already; and overthrow the faith 04:09 of some. 04:11 Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this 04:15 seal, the Lord knoweth them that are his. 04:18 And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ 04:21 depart from iniquity. 04:23 But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of 04:27 silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honor, 04:32 and some to dishonor. 04:33 If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel 04:38 unto honor, sanctified, and meet for the master's use, 04:43 and prepared unto every good work. 04:45 Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, 04:51 charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out 04:56 of a pure heart. 04:57 But foolish and unlearned questions avoid, knowing that 05:03 they do gender strifes. 05:04 And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto 05:09 all men, apt to teach, patient; in meekness instructing those 05:16 that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them 05:21 repentance to the acknowledging of the truth; and that they may 05:25 recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are 05:28 taken captive by him at his will. 05:31 Continuing to read in 2 Timothy, chapter 3 05:35 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. 05:41 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, 05:47 proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, 05:55 without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, 06:01 incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, 06:07 traitors, heady, high-minded, lovers of pleasures more than 06:11 lovers of God; having a form of godliness, but denying the power 06:17 thereof: from such turn away. 06:21 For of this sort are they which creep into houses, 06:25 and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with 06:30 divers lusts, ever learning, and never able to come to the 06:33 knowledge of the truth. 06:34 Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these 06:39 also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, 06:42 reprobate concerning the faith. 06:45 But they shall proceed no further: for their folly shall 06:49 be manifest unto all men, as theirs also was. 06:52 But thou hast fully known my doctrine, manner of life, 06:57 purpose, faith, long-suffering, charity, patience, persecutions, 07:04 afflictions, which came unto me at Antioch, at Iconium, 07:09 at Lystra; what persecutions I endured: but out of them all 07:13 the Lord delivered me. 07:15 Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus 07:19 shall suffer persecution. 07:20 But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, 07:26 and being deceived. 07:28 But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned 07:32 and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou 07:35 hast learned them; and that from a child thou hast known the holy 07:40 scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation 07:43 through faith which is in Christ Jesus. 07:46 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, 07:50 and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, 07:54 for instruction in righteousness: that the man of 07:58 God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works. 08:03 We are reading 2 Timothy, chapter 4, 08:07 in the King James Version. 08:08 I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, 08:13 who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing 08:16 and his kingdom; preach the word; be instant in season, 08:21 out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all long-suffering 08:28 and doctrine. 08:29 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; 08:32 but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves 08:36 teachers, having itching ears; and they shall turn away their 08:40 ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables. 08:43 But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work 08:49 of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry. 08:52 For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my 08:55 departure is at hand. 08:57 I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, 09:01 I have kept the faith: henceforth there is laid up for 09:05 me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous 09:09 judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, 09:13 but unto all them also that love his appearing. 09:17 Do they diligence to come shortly unto me: 09:21 for Demas hath forsaken me, having loved this present world, 09:25 and is departed unto Thessalonica; Crescens 09:28 to Galatia, Titus unto Dalmatia. 09:31 Only Luke is with me. 09:33 Take Mark, and bring him with thee: for he is profitable 09:37 to me for the ministry. 09:38 And Tychicus have I sent to Ephesus. 09:41 The cloak that I left at Troas with Carpus, when thou comest, 09:46 bring with thee, and the books, but especially the parchments. 09:50 Alexander the coppersmith did me much evil: the Lord reward him 09:55 according to his works: of whom be thou ware also; for he hath 10:01 greatly withstood our words. 10:03 At my first answer no man stood with me, but all men forsook me: 10:08 I pray God that it may not be laid to their charge. 10:12 Notwithstanding the Lord stood with me, and strengthened me; 10:17 that by me the preaching might be fully known, and that all the 10:20 Gentiles might hear: and I was delivered out of the mouth 10:23 of the lion. 10:24 And the Lord shall deliver me from every evil work, 10:27 and will preserve me unto his heavenly kingdom: to whom be 10:30 glory for ever and ever. 10:32 Amen. 10:33 Salute Prisca and Aquila, and the household of Onesiphorus. 10:37 Erastus abode at Corinth: but Trophimus have I left 10:41 at Miletus sick. 10:43 Do thy diligence to come before winter. 10:46 Eubulus greeteth thee, and Prudens, and Linus, and Claudia, 10:50 and all the brethren. 10:51 The Lord Jesus Christ be with thy spirit. 10:54 Grace be with you. 10:55 Amen. 10:57 Continuing now in the book of Titus, chapter 1, and this is, 11:02 again, the King James Version. 11:04 Titus chapter 1. 11:05 Paul, a servant of God, and an apostle of Jesus Christ, 11:09 according to the faith of God's elect, and the acknowledging of 11:13 the truth which is after godliness; in hope of eternal 11:17 life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world 11:22 began; but hath in due times manifested his word through 11:26 preaching, which is committed unto me according to the 11:29 commandment of God our Savior; to Titus, mine own son after the 11:35 common faith: grace, mercy, and peace, from God the Father 11:40 and the Lord Jesus Christ our Savior. 11:42 For this cause left I thee in Crete, that thou shouldest set 11:47 in order the things that are wanting, and ordain elders 11:50 in every city, as I had appointed thee: if any be 11:54 blameless, the husband of one wife, having faithful children 11:58 not accused of riot or unruly. 12:01 For a bishop must be blameless, as the steward of God; 12:05 not self-willed, not soon angry, not given to wine, no striker, 12:13 not given to filthy lucre; but a lover of hospitality, a lover of 12:18 good men, sober, just, holy, temperate; holding fast the 12:26 faithful word as he hath been taught, that he may be able by 12:30 sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers. 12:35 For there are many unruly and vain talkers and deceivers, 12:39 specially they of the circumcision: whose mouths must 12:43 be stopped, who subvert whole houses, teaching things which 12:46 they ought not, for filthy lucre's sake. 12:49 One of themselves, even a prophet of their own, said, 12:53 The Cretians are always liars, evil beasts, slow bellies. 12:57 This witness is true. 12:59 Wherefore rebuke them sharply, that they may be sound 13:02 in the faith; not giving heed to Jewish fables, and commandments 13:07 of men, that turn from the truth. 13:09 Unto the pure all things are pure: but unto them that are 13:13 defiled and unbelieving is nothing pure; but even their 13:17 mind and conscience is defiled. 13:19 They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him, 13:24 being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every 13:28 good work reprobate. 13:29 We are reading in the book of Titus, chapter 2. 13:33 But speak thou the things which become sound doctrine: that the 13:39 aged men be sober, grave, temperate, sound in faith, 13:43 in charity, in patience. 13:45 The aged women likewise, that they be in behavior as becometh 13:50 holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, 13:55 teachers of good things; that they may teach the young women 13:59 to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their 14:02 children, to be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, 14:09 obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God 14:12 be not blasphemed. 14:13 Young men likewise exhort to be sober minded. 14:18 In all things showing thyself a pattern of good works: 14:23 in doctrine showing uncorruptness, gravity, 14:27 sincerity, sound speech, that cannot be condemned; 14:31 that he that is of the contrary part may be ashamed, having no 14:35 evil thing to say of you. |
