00:17 Hi, and welcome to His Words Are Life
00:19 I'm Kelly Mowrer and we're reading today
00:21 from the first book of Timothy in the King James version,
00:25 But before we begin, Let's pray together.
00:28 Dear Jesus, thank you so much for sending this particular
00:34 council to us about how you would have us to serve you
00:38 and to serve your church, and to server the world,
00:40 the kind of people that we should be to bring glory to your
00:44 name and as we read this, there's no way
00:47 we can understand it or put it into practice unless you come
00:52 into our very hearts and plant these words there to bear fruit
00:56 and we just ask you to be with us now. Send the Holy Spirit
00:59 to guide our minds that we will not just hear it but we will
01:02 understand it. And then give us the faith and the grace
01:06 to make character by your mercy that we may do this
01:10 for you. We love you so much, Jesus. Amen
01:12 Again we're reading from the first book of Timothy,
01:17 in the King James version. This is chapter three,
01:19 beginning with verse 8. Likewise must the deacons
01:24 be grave, not double-tongued, not given to much wine,
01:29 not greedy of filthy lucre; Holding the mystery of the faith
01:33 in a pure conscience. And let these also first be proved;
01:37 then let them use the office of a deacon, being found blameless.
01:42 Even so must their wives, be grave, not slanderers, sober,
01:48 faithful in all things. Let the deacons be the husbands of
01:53 one wife, ruling their children and their own houses well.
01:56 For they that have used the office of a deacon well,
02:00 purchase to themselves a good degree, and great boldness
02:04 in the faith which is in Christ Jesus.
02:07 These things write I unto thee, hoping to come unto thee shortly
02:11 but if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how thou oughtest
02:16 to behave thyself in the house of God, which is the church
02:19 of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth.
02:23 And without controversy, great is the mystery of godliness:
02:28 God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit,
02:32 seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles,
02:36 believed on in the world, received up into glory.
02:40 We're reading now chapter 4 in the first book of Timothy,
02:44 the King James version. Now the Spirit speaketh
02:48 expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart
02:52 from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines
02:56 of devils; speaking lies in hypocrisy;
03:00 having their conscience seared with a hot iron;
03:04 Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain
03:07 from meats, which God hath created to be received
03:10 with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth,
03:13 For every creature of God is good, and nothing to be refused,
03:17 if it be received with thanksgiving:
03:19 For it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer.
03:23 If thou put the brethren in remembrance of these things,
03:27 thou shall be a good minister of Jesus Christ, nourished up
03:31 in the words of faith and of good doctrine
03:33 whereunto thou hast attained. But refuse profane and old wives
03:39 fables, and exercise thyself rather unto godliness.
03:44 For bodily exercise profiteth little:
03:47 but godliness is profitable unto all things,
03:51 having promise of the life that now is,
03:54 and of that which is to come. this is a faithful saying and
03:58 worthy of all acceptation. For therefore we both labour
04:02 and suffer reproach, because we trust in the living God,
04:06 who is the Saviour of all men, specially of those that believe.
04:10 These things command and teach. Let no man despise thy youth;
04:17 but be thou an example of the believers, in word,
04:22 in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.
04:28 till I come, give attendance to reading, to exhortation,
04:33 to doctrine. Neglect not the gift that is in thee,
04:37 which was given thee by prophecy with the laying on of the hands
04:41 of the presbytery. Meditate upon these things;
04:44 give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear
04:49 to all. Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine;
04:53 continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save
04:58 thyself and them that hear thee. - Continuing in I Timothy,
05:03 chapter 5. - Rebuke not an elder but entreat him as a father;
05:10 and the younger men as brethren; The elder women as mothers;
05:14 the younger as sisters, with all purity.
05:17 Honor widows that are widows indeed. But if any widow have
05:22 children or nephews, let them learn first to shew piety
05:25 at home, and to requite their parents: for that is good and
05:29 acceptable before God. Now she that is a widow indeed,
05:33 and desolate, trusteth in God, and continueth in supplications
05:38 and prayers night an day. But she that liveth in pleasure
05:42 is dead while she liveth. And these things give in charge,
05:46 that they may be blameless. But if any provide not for his own
05:50 especially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith,
05:54 and is worse than an infidel. Let not a widow be taken into
06:01 the number under threescore years old, having been the wife
06:04 of one man, well reported of for good works; if she have brought
06:09 up children, if she have lodged strangers,
06:11 if she have washed the saints' feet, if she have relieved
06:15 the afflicted, if she have diligently followed every
06:19 good work. But the younger widows refuse;
06:22 for when they have begun to wax wanton against Christ,
06:26 they will marry; having damnation, because
06:29 they have cast off their first faith. And withal they learn
06:32 to be idle, wandering about from house to house;
06:36 and not only idle, but tattlers also and busybodies,
06:40 speaking things which they ought not.
06:43 I will, therefore, that the younger women marry,
06:46 bear children, guide the house, give none occasion
06:50 to the adversary to speak reproachfully.
06:52 For some are already turned aside after Satan.
06:56 If any man or woman that believeth have widows,
07:00 let them relieve them, and let not the church be charged;
07:04 that it may relieve them that are widows indeed.
07:07 Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double
07:12 honour, especially they who labour in the word and doctrine.
07:16 For the scripture saith, Thou shalt not muzzle the ox
07:20 that treadeth out the corn. And, The labourer is worthy
07:25 of his reward. Against an elder receive not an accusation,
07:29 but before two or three witnesses.
07:32 Them that sin rebuke before all, that others also may fear.
07:38 I charge thee before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ,
07:41 and the elect angels, that thou observe these things without
07:45 preferring one before another, doing nothing by partiality.
07:49 Lay hands suddenly on no man, neither be partaker
07:53 of other men's sins: keep thyself pure.
07:56 Drink no longer water, but use a little wine
08:00 for thy stomach's sake and thine often infirmities.
08:03 Some men's sins are open beforehand, going before
08:08 to judgment; and some men they follow after.
08:11 Likewise also the good works of some are manifest beforehand;
08:17 and they that are otherwise cannot be hid.
08:20 We're reading in First Timothy, beginning now in chapter 6
08:24 and this is the King James version.
08:26 Let as many servants as are under the yoke
08:30 count their own masters worthy of all honour, that the name of
08:34 God and his doctrine be not blasphemed.
08:37 And they that have believing masters, let them not despise
08:41 them, because they are brethren; but rather do them service,
08:46 because they are faithful and beloved,
08:48 partakers of the benefit. These things teach and exhort.
08:53 If any man teach otherwise, and consent not to wholesome words,
08:58 even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine
09:01 which is according to godliness; he is proud, knowing nothing,
09:06 but doting about questions and strifes of words, whereof cometh
09:11 envy, strife, railings, evil surmisings,
09:15 perverse disputings of men of corrupt minds, and destitute
09:21 of the truth, supposing that gain is godliness:
09:25 >From such withdraw thyself. But godliness with contentment
09:31 is great gain. For we brought nothing into this world,
09:35 and it is certain we can carry nothing out.
09:37 And having food and raiment let us be therewith content.
09:42 But they that will be rich, fall into temptation and a snare,
09:47 and into many foolish and hurtful lusts,
09:50 which drown men in destruction and perdition.
09:53 For the love of money is the root of all evil:
09:55 which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith,
10:00 and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.
10:04 But thou, O man of God, flee these things;
10:08 and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience
10:14 meekness. Fight the good fight of faith,
10:16 lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou are also called,
10:21 and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses
10:25 I give thee charge in the sight of God,
10:28 who quickeneth all things, and before Christ Jesus,
10:31 who before Pontius Pilate witnessed a good confession;
10:35 that thou keep this commandment without spot, unrebukeable,
10:40 until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ;
10:43 Which in his times he shall shew, who is the blessed
10:47 and only Potentate, the King of Kings, and Lord of Lords;
10:52 Who only hath immortality, dwelling in the light which
10:56 no man can approach unto; whom no man hath seen, nor can see:
11:01 to whom be honour and power everlasting. Amen
11:05 Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not
11:09 highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches,
11:12 but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things
11:17 to enjoy; that they do good, that they be rich in good works,
11:22 ready to distribute, willing to communicate;
11:25 Laying up in store for themselves a good foundation
11:29 against the time to come, that they may lay hold
11:33 on eternal life. O Timothy, keep that which is committed to thy
11:38 trust, avoiding profane and vain babblings, and oppositions of
11:43 science falsely so called; which some professing have erred
11:49 concerning the faith. Grace be with thee. Amen.
11:53 beginning now in the 2nd letter to Timothy,
11:56 and this is the King James version, chapter one.
11:58 Paul, and apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God,
12:02 according to the promise of life which is in Christ Jesus,
12:06 to Timothy, my dearly beloved son: Grace, mercy, and peace,
12:12 from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord. I thank God,
12:17 whom I serve from my forefathers with pure conscience,
12:20 that without ceasing I have remembrance of thee in my
12:24 prayers night and day; greatly desiring to see thee,
12:28 being mindful of thy tears, that I may be filled with joy;
12:33 When I call to remembrance the unfeigned faith that is in thee,
12:38 which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois,
12:41 and thy mother Eunice; and I am persuaded that in thee also.
12:45 wherefore I put thee in remembrance that thou stir up
12:49 the gift of God which is in thee by the putting on of my hands.
12:53 For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power,
12:57 and of love, and of a sound mind.
13:00 Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord,
13:05 nor of me his prisoner: but be thou partaker of the afflictions
13:09 of the gospel according to the power of God;
13:11 Who hath save us, and called us with an holy calling,
13:14 not according to our works, but according to his own purpose
13:19 and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world
13:23 began, but is now made manifest by the appearing of our Saviour
13:27 Jesus Christ, who hath abolished death, and hath brought life
13:32 and immortality to light through the gospel: Whereunto I am
13:36 appointed a preacher, and an apostle, and a teacher
13:40 of the Gentiles. For the which cause I also suffer these things
13:45 nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed,
13:51 and am persuaded that he is able to keep
13:55 that which have committed unto him against that day.
13:59 Hold fast the form of sound words, which thou hast heard
14:05 of me, in faith and love which is in Christ Jesus.
14:08 That good thing which was committed unto the, keep
14:12 by the Holy Ghost which dwelleth in us.
14:15 This thou knowest, that all they which are in Asia
14:19 be turned away from me; of whom are Phygellus and Hermogenes.
14:23 The Lord give mercy unto the house of Onesiphorus;
14:27 for he oft refreshed me, and was not ashamed of my chain:
14:31 Thank you, and please join me again next time.
