00:17 Hi and Welcome to His Words Are Life
00:19 I'm Kelly Mowrer, and today we will be reading from the book of 00:23 Colossians, but before we begin let's pray together. 00:26 Dear Jesus, thank you so much for giving us the blessing of 00:33 words that, not only give us comfort and peace, 00:36 but that show us how we can be more like you 00:39 and that is the longing of our hearts - to bring you glory 00:44 to have you pleased with us, to have you smile at us, 00:48 and so now as we sit in your presence, for these few minutes, 00:51 please send your Holy Spirit to guide our hearts and our minds 00:55 and again, thank your for these wonderful, wonderful 00:57 precious words. We love you so much. Amen 01:00 I'm reading again today from the book of Colossians, 01:03 this is the King James version. chapter four 01:07 and continuing with verse three. Withal praying also for us, 01:13 that God would open unto us a door of utterance, 01:16 to speak the mystery of Christ, for which I am also in bonds: 01:20 that I may make it manifest as I ought to speak. 01:24 Walk in wisdom toward them that are without, redeeming the time. 01:28 let your speech be alway with grace, seasoned with salt, 01:33 that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man. 01:36 All my state shall Tychicus declare unto you, 01:41 who is a beloved brother, and a faithful minister 01:43 and fellow-servant in the Lord: whom I have sent unto you for 01:47 the same purpose, that he might know your estate, 01:49 and comfort your hearts; with Onesimus, a faithful and beloved 01:53 brother, who is one of you. They shall make known unto you 01:57 all things which are done here. Aristarchus my fellow-prisoner 02:02 saluteth you, and Marcus, sister's son to Barnabas 02:04 - touching whom ye received commandments: 02:07 if he come unto you, receive him; - 02:09 And Jesus, which is called Justus, who are of the 02:13 circumcision. These only are my fellow-workers unto the kingdom 02:17 of God, which have been a comfort unto me. 02:19 Epaphras, who is one of you, a servant of Christ, 02:22 saluteth you, always labouring fervently for you in prayers, 02:27 that ye may stand perfect and complete in all the will of God. 02:31 For I bear him record, that he hath a great zeal for you, 02:34 and them that are in Laodicea, 02:37 and them in Hierapolis. Luke, the beloved physician, 02:41 and Demas, greet you. Salute the brethren which are in 02:44 Laodicea, and Nymphas, and the church which is in his house. 02:48 And when this epistle is read among you, cause that it be read 02:52 also in the church of the Laodiceans; and that ye likewise 02:56 read the epistle from Laodicea. And say to Archippus, Take heed 03:01 to the ministry which thou hast received in the Lord, 03:03 that thou fulfill it. The salutation 03:07 by the hand of me, Paul. Remember my bonds. 03:10 Grace be with you. Amen. 03:13 Continuing now in the first letter to the Thessalonians, 03:17 this is the King James version. Chapter one. 03:20 Paul, and Silvanus, and Timotheus, unto the church 03:25 of the Thessalonians which is in God the Father and in 03:27 the Lord Jesus Christ. Grace be unto you, and peace from God our 03:32 Father and the Lord Jesus Christ We give thanks to God always 03:37 for you all, making mention of you in our prayers; 03:40 Remembering without ceasing your work of faith 03:43 and labour of love, and patience of hope in our Lord Jesus 03:47 Christ, in the sight of God and our Father; 03:50 Knowing, brethren beloved, your election of God. 03:54 For our gospel came not unto you in word only, but also in power. 03:59 and in the Holy Ghost, and in much assurance; as ye know 04:03 what manner of men we were among you for your sake. 04:06 And ye became followers of us, and of the Lord, 04:09 having received the word in much affliction, with joy 04:13 of the Holy Ghost: So that ye were ensamples to all that 04:17 believe in Macedonia and Achaia For from you sounded out the 04:22 word of the Lord not only in Macedonia and Achaia, but also 04:26 in every place your faith to God-ward is spread abroad; 04:29 So that we need not to speak any thing. For they themselves 04:34 shew of us what manner of entering in we had unto you, 04:38 and how ye turned to God from idols to serve the living 04:41 and true God; and to wait for his Son from heaven, 04:44 whom he raised from the dead, even Jesus, which delivered us 04:49 from the wrath to come. Again reading from the first 04:53 book of Thessalonians, chapter two 04:55 For yourselves, brethren, know our entrance in unto you, 05:00 that it was not in vain: But even after that we had suffered 05:05 before and were shamefully treated, as ye know, 05:08 at Philippi, we were bold in our God to speak unto you 05:12 the gospel of God with much contention. For our exhortation 05:17 was not of deceit, nor of uncleanness, nor in guile: 05:21 But as we were allowed of God to be put in trust with the gospel, 05:25 even so we speak; not as pleasing men, but God, 05:31 which trieth our hearts. For neither at any time used we 05:36 flattering words, as ye know, nor a cloak of covetousness; 05:40 God is witness: Nor of men sought we glory, neither of you, 05:45 nor yet of others, when we might have been burdensome, 05:48 as the apostles of Christ. But we were gentle among you, 05:52 even as a nurse cherisheth her children: 05:55 So being affectionately desirous of you, we were willing to have 06:00 imparted unto you, not the gospel of God only, 06:03 but also our own souls, because ye were dear unto us. 06:07 For ye remember, brethren, our labour and travail: 06:11 for labouring night and day, because we would not be 06:15 chargeable to any of you, we preached unto you the gospel 06:18 of God. Ye are witnesses, and God also, how holily and justly 06:25 and unblameably we have behaved ourselves among you that believe 06:29 As ye know how we exhorted and comforted and charged every one 06:33 of you, as a father doth his children, that ye would walk 06:37 worthy of God, who hath called you unto his kingdom and glory. 06:41 For this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because, 06:46 when ye received the word of God which ye heard of us, 06:49 ye received it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, 06:54 the word of God, which effectually worketh also in you 06:58 that believe. For ye, brethren, became followers of the churches 07:03 of God which in Judaea are in Christ Jesus: for ye also have 07:07 suffered like things of your own countrymen, even as they have 07:10 of the Jews: Who both killed the the Lord Jesus, and their own 07:14 prophets, and have persecuted us and they please not God, 07:18 and are contrary to all men: Forbidding us to speak 07:23 to the Gentiles that they might be saved, to fill up their sins 07:26 alway: for the wrath is come upon them to the uttermost. 07:30 But we, brethren, being taken from you for a short time 07:34 in presence, not in heart, endeavored the more abundantly 07:39 to see your face with great desire. Wherefore we would have 07:43 come unto you, even I Paul, once and again; 07:45 but Satan hindered us. For what is our hope, or joy, or crown 07:51 of rejoicing? Are not even ye in the presence of our Lord Jesus 07:55 Christ at his coming? For ye are our glory and joy. 08:01 Continuing in the first book to the Thessalonians, chapter three 08:04 and this is the King James version. 08:05 wherefore when we could no longer forbear, we thought it 08:11 good to be left at Athens alone and sent Timotheus, our brother, 08:16 and minister of God, and our fellow-labourer in the gospel 08:19 of Christ, to establish you, and to comfort you concerning 08:23 your faith: that no man should be moved by these afflictions: 08:28 for yourselves know that we are appointed thereunto. 08:31 For verily, when we were with you, we told you before that we 08:35 should suffer tribulation; even as it came to pass, and ye know 08:39 For this cause, when I could no longer forbear, I sent to know 08:44 your faith, lest by some means the tempter have tempted you, 08:48 and our labour be in vain. But now when Timotheus came from you 08:53 unto us, and brought us good tidings of your faith 08:56 and charity, and that ye have good remembrance of us always, 08:59 desiring greatly to see us, as we also to see you: 09:03 Therefore, brethren, we were comforted over you 09:06 in all our affliction and distress by your faith: 09:09 For now we live, if ye stand fast in the Lord. 09:13 For what thanks can we render to God again for you, 09:17 for all the joy wherewith we joy for your sakes before our God; 09:21 Night and day praying exceedingly that we might 09:25 see your face, and might perfect that which is lacking 09:28 in your faith? Now God himself and our Father, 09:32 and our Lord Jesus Christ, direct our way unto you. 09:35 And the Lord make you to increase and abound in love 09:39 one toward another, and toward all men, even as we do 09:43 toward you: to the end he may establish your hearts 09:48 unblameable in holiness before God, even our Father, at the 09:52 coming of our Lord Jesus Christ with all his saints. 09:55 Reading in chapter four of the first book of Thessalonians, 09:59 and this is the King James version. 10:00 Furthermore then we beseech you brethren, and exhort you 10:06 by the Lord Jesus, that as ye have received of us how ye ought 10:10 to walk and to please God, so ye would abound more and more. 10:14 For ye know what commandments we gave you by the Lord Jesus. 10:18 For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, 10:21 that ye should abstain from fornication: 10:23 That every one of you should know how to possess his vessel 10:26 in sanctification and honour; Not in the lust of concupiscence 10:31 even as the Gentiles which know not God: That no man go beyond 10:36 and defraud his brother in any matter: because that the Lord 10:40 is the avenger of all such, as we also have forewarned you 10:43 and testified. For God hath not called us unto uncleanness, 10:48 but unto holiness. He therefore that despiseth, despiseth not 10:53 man, but God, who hath also given unto us his holy Spirit. 10:58 But as touching brotherly love ye need not that I write 11:03 unto you, for ye yourselves are taught of God to love 11:06 one another. And indeed ye to it toward all the brethren 11:09 which are in all Macedonia: but we beseech you, brethren 11:13 that ye increase more and more; and that ye study to be quiet, 11:17 and to do your own business, and to work with your own hands, 11:20 as we commanded you; that ye may walk honestly toward them 11:24 that are without, and that ye may have lack of nothing. 11:28 But I would not have you to be ignorant brethren, concerning 11:32 them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others 11:36 which have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose 11:40 again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus 11:44 will God bring with him. For this we say unto you by the word 11:48 of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming 11:51 of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep. 11:55 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven, 11:58 with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, 12:01 and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise 12:03 first: then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up 12:08 together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air: 12:11 and so shall we ever be with the Lord. Wherefore comfort 12:15 one another with these words. Reading in chapter five 12:19 But of the times and seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I 12:23 write unto you. For yourselves know perfectly that the day of 12:27 the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night. 12:29 For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden 12:33 destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman 12:36 with child; and they shall not escape. But ye, brethren, are 12:40 not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief. 12:43 Ye are all the children of light and the children of the day. 12:47 We are not of the night, nor of darkness. Therefore let us not 12:52 sleep as do others; but let us watch and be sober. 12:56 For they that sleep, sleep in the night; 12:59 and they that be drunken are drunken in the night. 13:02 Bur let us, who are of the day, be sober, 13:06 putting on the breastplate of faith and love; 13:09 and for an helmet, the hope of salvation. 13:11 For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation 13:16 by our Lord Jesus Christ, who died for us, 13:19 that whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him 13:24 Wherefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another, 13:29 even as also ye do. And we beseech you, brethren, 13:33 to know them which labour among you, and are over you 13:35 in the Lord and admonish you; and to esteem them very highly 13:39 in love for their work's sake. And be at peace among yourselves 13:44 Now we exhort you, brethren, warn them that are unruly, 13:49 comfort the feebleminded, support the weak, 13:53 be patient toward all men. See that none render evil for evil 14:00 unto any man; but ever follow that which is good, 14:04 both among yourselves, and to all men. Rejoice evermore. 14:09 Pray without ceasing. In every thing give thanks: 14:14 for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. 14:18 Quench not the Spirit. Despise not prophesyings. 14:23 Prove all things; hold fast that which is good. 14:28 Thank you for being with us today and please join me again 14:32 next time to read the word of God. |
