00:15 Hi, welcome to His Words are Life. I'm Kelly Mowrer.
00:19 Thank you for coming apart with me to read the Word of God.
00:22 When we were last together, we were reading in Paul's letter to
00:26 the church at Galacia about how the law was given to us
00:29 as a school teacher to keep us until we could understand as
00:34 mature Christians the righteousness that comes by
00:37 faith and through the grace of Jesus.
00:39 And he is writing to the Galatians, saying, Don't be
00:41 foolish, don't forget where you started. There is no other
00:45 gospel than the gospel that you have already received.
00:47 Before we read on, let's pray together.
00:50 Dear Jesus, the precious God and Holy Spirit,
00:54 please be with us as we read these words that explain
00:58 Your purpose and Your plan, how came to fulfill the law,
01:02 and how the law is holy and just and good;
01:05 that our righteousness comes through You.
01:07 Please be with us and give us an understanding
01:10 so that we may bear fruit to your glory. We love you. Amen.
01:15 We're picking up in Galatians, chapter four.
01:19 And starting with verse fifteen.
01:21 Where is then the blessedness ye spake of?
01:26 For I bear you record that if it had been possible,
01:29 you would have plucked out your own eyes and given them to me.
01:32 Am I therefore become your enemy because I tell you the truth?
01:35 They zealously affect you, but not well;
01:39 yea they would exclude you, that ye might affect them.
01:43 But it is good to be zealously affected always in a good thing,
01:47 and not only when I am present with you. My little children
01:51 of whom I travail in birth again until Christ be formed in you,
01:55 I desire to be present with you now and to change my voice;
01:59 for I stand in doubt of you. Tell me, you that desire
02:04 to be under the law, do ye not hear the law?
02:07 For it is written that Abraham had two sons,
02:10 the one by a bondmaid, the other by a free woman.
02:13 But he who was of the bond- woman was born after the flesh;
02:17 but he of the freewoman was by promise.
02:20 Which things are an allegory; for these are the two covenants;
02:24 the one from the mount Sinai, which gendereth to bondage,
02:28 which is Agar. For this Agar is mount Sinai in Arabia,
02:32 and answereth to Jerusalem which now is, and is in bondage
02:36 with her children. But Jerusalem which is above,
02:40 is free, which is the mother of us all. For it is written,
02:44 Rejoice, thou barren that bearest not;
02:46 break forth and cry, thou that travailest not: for
02:49 the desolate hath many more children than she which hath
02:53 an husband. Now we, brethren, as Isaac was, are the children
02:58 of the promise. But as then he that was born after the flesh
03:03 persecuted him that was born after the Spirit,
03:05 even so it is now. Nevertheless what saith the scripture?
03:10 Cast out the bondwoman and her son:
03:14 for the son of the bondwoman shall not be heir with the son
03:17 of the freewoman. So then brethren, we are not children
03:21 of the bondwoman, but of the free.
03:23 Continuing to read in Galatians, chapter five.
03:27 This is the King James version
03:28 Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath
03:34 made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke
03:38 of bondage. Behold, I Paul, say unto you, that if ye be
03:43 circumcised, Christ shall profit you nothing.
03:46 For I testify again to every man that is circumcised
03:49 that he is a debtor to the whole law.
03:52 Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you
03:56 are justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace.
04:00 For we through the Spirit wait for the hope of righteousness
04:04 by faith. For in Jesus Christ neither circumcision availeth
04:08 anything, nor uncircumcision; but faith which worketh by love.
04:13 Ye did run well; who did hinder hinder you that ye should not
04:18 obey the truth? This persuasion cometh not of him
04:22 that calleth you. A little leaven leaveneth the whole lump.
04:25 I have confidence in you through the Lord, that ye will be none
04:29 otherwise minded: but he that troubleth you shall bear
04:33 his judgment, whosoever he be. And I, Brethren, if I yet preach
04:38 circumcision, why do I yet suffer persecution?
04:41 then is the offence of the cross ceased.
04:45 I would they were even cut off which trouble you.
04:49 For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty;
04:51 only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh,
04:55 but by love serve one another. For all the law is fulfilled
05:01 in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbour
05:06 as thyself. But if ye bite and devour one another, take heed
05:11 that ye be not consumed one of another. This I say then,
05:15 Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfill
05:18 the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit
05:23 and the Spirit against the flesh and these are contrary
05:26 one to the other; so that ye cannot do the things
05:28 that you would. But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under
05:33 the law. Now the works of the flesh are manifest,
05:36 which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness,
05:41 lasciviousness, Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance,
05:47 emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, envyings
05:55 murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like:
05:59 of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you
06:03 in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit
06:08 the kingdom of God. But the fruit of the Spirit is love,
06:13 joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith
06:20 meekness, temperance; against such there is no law.
06:26 And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the
06:31 affections and lusts. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk
06:36 in the Spirit, let us not be desirous of vain glory,
06:40 provoking one another, envying one another.
06:43 Continuing in Galatians, chapter six.
06:47 Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault,
06:49 ye which are spiritual, restore such a one in the spirit of
06:54 meekness, considering thyself lest thou also be tempted.
06:58 Bear ye one another's burdens and so fulfill the law of
07:03 Christ. For if a man think himself to be something, when he
07:07 is nothing, he deceiveth himself. But let every man prove
07:12 his own work and then shall he have rejoicing in himself alone
07:15 and not in another For every man shall bear his own burden. Let
07:20 him that is taught in the word communicate unto him that teacheth in all good things
07:24 Be not deceived, God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man
07:29 soweth, that shall he also reap. For he that soweth to his flesh
07:34 shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth
07:38 to the Spirit, shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.
07:43 Let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season
07:47 we shall reap, if we faint not. As we have therefore
07:52 opportunity, let us do good unto all men,
07:55 especially to them who are of the household of faith.
07:58 Ye see how large a letter I have written unto you
08:01 with my own hand. As many as desire to make a fair shew
08:05 in the flesh, they constrain you to be circumcised;
08:07 only lest they should suffer persecution
08:10 for the cross of Christ. For neither they themselves who are
08:14 circumcised keep the law; but desire to have you circumcised,
08:18 that they may glory in your flesh. But God forbid
08:22 that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ,
08:26 by whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world.
08:30 For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision availeth any thing,
08:35 nor uncircumcision, but a new creature.
08:38 And as many as walk according to this rule, peace be on them,
08:42 and mercy, and upon the Israel of God. From henceforth
08:47 let no man trouble me: for I bear in my body the marks of
08:51 the Lord Jesus. Brethren, the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ
08:55 be with your spirit. Amen.
08:57 We are continuing to read the letters of Paul.
09:01 This is his letter to Ephesians, the church at Ephesus,
09:05 beginning with chapter one, this is the King James version.
09:07 Paul an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God,
09:12 to the saints which are at Ephesus, and to the faithful
09:15 in Christ Jesus: Grace be to you and peace, from God our Father,
09:20 and from the Lord Jesus Christ. Blessed be the God and Father
09:24 of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all
09:27 spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ:
09:30 According as he hath chosen us in him, before the foundation
09:34 of the world, that we should be holy and without blame
09:38 before him in love: Having predestinated us unto
09:42 the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself,
09:46 according to the good pleasure of his will, To the praise
09:50 of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted
09:54 in the beloved. In whom we have redemption through his blood,
09:58 the forgiveness of sins according to the riches of
10:01 his grace; Wherein he hath abounded toward us in all wisdom
10:06 and prudence; having made known unto us the mystery of his will,
10:10 according to his good pleasure which he hath purposed
10:13 in himself: That in the dispensation of the fullness of
10:16 times he might gather together in one all things in Christ,
10:21 both which are in heaven and which are on earth; even in him:
10:26 In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated
10:31 according to the purpose of him who worketh all things
10:34 after the council of his own will: That we should be to the
10:39 praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ.
10:42 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth,
10:47 the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed
10:51 ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,
10:54 which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption
10:57 of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.
11:01 Wherefore I also, after I heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus
11:06 and love unto all the saints, cease not to give thanks
11:09 for you, making mention of you in my prayers;
11:12 That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory,
11:15 may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the
11:20 knowledge of him: the eyes of your understanding
11:23 being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope
11:27 of his calling, and what the riches of the glory
11:31 of his inheritance in the saints and what is the exceeding
11:34 greatness of his power to usward who believe,
11:38 according to the working of his mighty power,
11:40 which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead,
11:44 and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places,
11:47 far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion,
11:52 and every name that is named, not only in this world,
11:55 but also in that which is to come: and hath put all things
11:59 under his feet and gave him to be the head over all things
12:02 to the church, which is his body the fullness of him
12:06 that filleth all in all.
12:09 We are reading Paul's letter to Ephesus, Ephesians chapter two.
12:14 And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins
12:19 wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this
12:23 world, according to the prince of the power of the air,
12:26 the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience:
12:29 Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past
12:34 in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires
12:37 of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children
12:41 of wrath, even as others. But God, who is rich in mercy,
12:47 for his great love wherewith he loved us, even when we were dead
12:51 in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ,
12:55 by grace ye are saved; and hath raised us up together
13:00 and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus
13:03 that in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches
13:08 of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus.
13:11 For by grace are ye saved through faith;
13:14 and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
13:18 not of works, lest any man should boast.
13:22 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus
13:25 unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we
13:29 should walk in them. Wherefore remember, that ye being in time
13:35 past Gentiles in the flesh, who are called Uncircumcision
13:39 by that which is called the Circumcision in the flesh
13:41 made by hands; that at that time ye were without Christ,
13:46 being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and
13:49 strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope,
13:52 and without God in the world: But now in Christ Jesus
13:57 ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood
14:02 of Christ, for he is our peace, who hath made both one and
14:06 hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us;
14:10 having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law
14:15 of commandments, contained in ordinances;
14:17 for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace;
14:23 Until we are together again, may the God of hope
14:27 keep you with all joy and peace in believing through the power
14:31 of his Holy Spirit. Thank you for coming apart to read with me
