00:16 Hi, and welcome to His Words Are Life
00:18 I'm Kelly Mowrer. Today we are going to continue reading
00:21 in 1 Corinthians and chapter 14. Before we start, let's just pray
00:26 together. Dear God, when we were last together we read your words
00:31 about love and You've told us that the way that the whole
00:35 world will know that we belong to You is the love that we show
00:38 one for another. Give us the kind of love that we read about
00:42 in 1 Corinthians 13; love that is not envious, doesn't seek
00:46 it's own exaltation, but seeks to build up those around us
00:50 Make us more like You. We want to be like You. We want to see
00:55 You in this time together now and then when we come to the end
00:58 of this time together, we want to be changed -
01:01 to be a little closer to You. We love You so much. Amen
01:05 We are reading from the King James Version, 1 Cor. 14:12
01:12 Even so as ye are zealous of spiritual gifts, seek
01:18 that ye may excel to the edifying of the church,
01:21 wherefore let him that speaketh in an unknown tongue pray that
01:26 he may interpret, for if I pray in an unknown tongue,
01:29 my spirit prayeth, but my understanding is unfruitful.
01:32 What is it then? I will pray with the spirit,
01:35 and I will pray with understanding also.
01:38 I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing
01:41 with the understanding also. else when thou shalt bless with
01:46 the spirit, how shall he that occupieth the room of the
01:49 unlearned say Amen at thy giving of thanks, seeing he
01:53 understandeth not what thou sayest?
01:55 For thou verily givest thanks well, but the other
01:58 is not edified. I thank my God, I speak with tongues
02:02 more than ye all: yet in the church I had rather speak five
02:06 words with my understanding, that by my voice I might teach
02:10 others also, than 10,000 words in an unknown tongue.
02:14 Brethren, be not children in understanding, howbeit in malice
02:20 be ye children, but in understanding be men.
02:23 In the law it is written, With men of other tongues
02:26 and other lips will I speak unto this people; and yet for all
02:30 that will they not hear me, saith the Lord.
02:33 Wherefore tongues are for a sign, not to them that believe,
02:37 but to them that believe not: but prophesying serveth not for
02:42 them that believeth not, but for them which believe.
02:46 If therefore the whole church be come together into one place,
02:50 and all speak with tongues, and there come in those that are
02:53 unlearned or unbelievers, will they not say that ye are mad?
02:57 But if all prophecy, and there come in one that believeth not,
03:01 or one unlearned, he is convinced of all, he is judged
03:05 of all. And thus are the secrets of his heart made
03:09 manifest; and so falling down on his face, he will worship God,
03:14 and report that God is in you of a truth.
03:18 How is it then, brethren? when ye come together, every one of
03:22 you hath a psalm, hath a doctrine hath a tongue,
03:25 hath a revelation, hath an interpretation.
03:27 Let all things be done unto edifying.
03:32 If any man speak in an unknown tongue, let it be by two,
03:36 or at the most, by three, and that by course;
03:39 and let one interpret.
03:42 But if there be no interpreter, let him keep silence
03:45 in the church. And let him speak to himself, and to God.
03:48 Let the prophets speak two or three, and let the other judge.
03:52 If anything be revealed to another that sitteth by,
03:56 let the first hold his peace. For ye may all prophesy one by
04:00 one, that all may learn, and all may be comforted.
04:03 And the spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets.
04:07 For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in
04:12 all churches of the saints. Let your women keep silence in
04:16 the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak;
04:19 but if they are commanded to be under obedience, as also
04:22 sayeth the law. And if they will learn any thing, let them ask
04:26 their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak
04:30 in the church. What? came the word of God out from you?
04:34 or came it unto you only? If any man think himself to be a
04:38 prophet, or spiritual, let him acknowledge that the things
04:42 that I write unto you are the commandments of the Lord.
04:44 But if any man be ignorant, let him be ignorant.
04:48 Wherefore, brethren, covet to prophesy, and forbid not
04:53 to speak with tongues. Let all things be done decently
04:56 and in order. We are reading from 1 Corinthians chapter 15
05:01 This is the King James Version.
05:03 Moreover brethren, I declare unto you the gospel, which I
05:07 preached unto you, which also ye have received and wherein ye
05:11 stand; by which also ye are saved if ye keep in memory
05:15 what I have preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.
05:18 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also
05:22 received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the
05:26 scriptures: And that He was buried, and that he rose again
05:29 the third day according to the scriptures: And that He was seen
05:32 of Cephas, then of the twelve: after that, he was seen of about
05:36 500 brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain
05:38 unto this present, but some are fallen asleep.
05:42 After that he was seen of James then of all the apostles.
05:46 And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of
05:50 due time. For I am the least of the apostles, that am not meet
05:55 to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church
05:57 of God. But by the grace of God I am what I am: and his grace
06:03 which was bestowed upon me was not in vain; but I laboured
06:08 more abundantly than they all, yet not I, but the grace of God
06:12 which was with me. Therefore whether it were I or they,
06:16 so we preach and so we believed.
06:18 Now if Christ be preached that he rose from the dead,
06:22 how say some among you that there is no resurrection
06:25 of the dead? But if there be no resurrection of the dead, then
06:30 is Christ not risen: And if Christ is not risen, then is our
06:33 preaching vain, and your faith is also vain.
06:36 Yea, and we are found false witnesses of God; because we
06:40 have testified of God that he raised up Christ:
06:42 Whom he raised not up, if so be that the dead rise not.
06:45 For if the dead rise not, then is Christ not raised.
06:49 And if Christ be not raised, your faith is vain;
06:52 ye are yet in your sins. Then they also which are fallen
06:57 asleep in Christ are perished. If in this life only we have
07:01 hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable.
07:04 But now is Christ risen from the the dead, and become the first-
07:08 fruits of them that slept. For since by man came death,
07:13 by man came also the resurrection of the dead.
07:17 For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made
07:23 alive. But every man in his own order: Christ the firstfruits;
07:28 afterward they that are Christ's at His coming.
07:32 Then cometh the end, when He shall have delivered up the
07:35 kingdom to God, even the Father; when He shall have put down all
07:39 rule and all authority and power. For he must reign,
07:43 until He hath put all enemies under His feet.
07:46 The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death.
07:49 For he hath put all things under His feet. But when he
07:52 saith all things are put under him, it is manifest that He
07:56 is excepted, which did put all things under him.
08:00 And when all things shall by subdued unto him, then shall the
08:04 Son also himself be subject unto him that put all things under
08:09 him, that God may be all in all. Else what shall they do
08:15 which are baptized for the dead? if the dead rise not at all?
08:18 why are they then baptized for the dead?
08:20 And why stand we in jeopardy every hour?
08:23 I protest by your rejoicing which I have in Christ Jesus
08:27 our Lord, I die daily. If after the manner of men I have fought
08:32 with beasts at Ephesus, what advantageth it me, if the dead
08:36 rise not? let us eat and drink; for tomorrow we die.
08:40 Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good
08:45 manners. Awake to righteousness, and sin not; for some have not
08:51 the knowledge of God: I speak this to your shame.
08:54 But some man will say, How are the dead raised up?
08:57 and with what body do they come? Thou fool, that which thou
09:01 sowest is not quickened, except it die: And that which
09:04 thou sowest, thou sowest not that body that shall be,
09:08 but bear grain, it may chance of wheat or of some other grain:
09:12 But God gives it a body as it hath pleased him, and to every
09:17 seed his own body. All flesh is not the same flesh:
09:20 but there is one kind of flesh of men, another flesh of beasts,
09:24 another of fishes and another of birds. There are also celestial
09:29 bodies and bodies terrestrial: but the glory of the celestial
09:32 is one and the glory of the terrestrial is another.
09:35 There is one glory of the sun, and another glory of the moon,
09:39 and another glory of the stars: for one star differeth
09:43 from another star in glory, so also is the resurrection
09:47 of the dead.
09:48 It is sown in corruption, it is raised in incorruption.
09:52 It is sown in dishonor; it is raised in glory.
09:57 It is sown in weakness, it is raised in power.
10:02 It is sown a natural body. It is raised a spiritual body.
10:07 There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body.
10:11 And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul.
10:15 The last Adam was made a quickening spirit.
10:19 Howbeit that was not first which is spiritual,
10:22 but that which is natural. And afterward
10:25 that which is spiritual. The first man is of the earth,
10:30 earthy. The second man is the Lord from heaven.
10:34 As is the earthy, such are they also that are earthy.
10:40 And as is the heavenly, such are they also that are heavenly.
10:45 And as we have borne the image of the earthy, we shall also
10:51 bear the image of the heavenly. Now this I say brethren,
10:55 that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God;
10:58 neither doth corruption inherit incorruption.
11:02 Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep,
11:07 but we shall all be changed, in a moment, in the twinkling
11:11 of an eye at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the
11:15 dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we
11:18 shall be changed. For this corruptible must put on
11:21 incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality,
11:25 so when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and
11:28 this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be
11:32 brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed
11:36 up in victory. O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is
11:42 thy victory? The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin
11:46 is the law. But thanks be to God which giveth us the victory
11:51 through our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, my beloved brethren
11:55 be ye steadfast, unmovable, always abounding in the work
12:00 of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labor is not in
12:05 vain in the Lord. We are reading from 1 Corinthians
12:10 beginning now chapter 16. This is the King James version.
12:13 Now concerning the collection for the saints, as I have given
12:17 order to the churches of Galatia even so do ye.
12:20 Upon the first day of the week let every one of you lay by him
12:24 in store, as God hath prospered him, that there be no gatherings
12:28 when I come. And when I come, whomsoever ye shall approve
12:32 by your letters, them will I send to bring your liberality
12:36 unto Jerusalem. And if it be meet that I go also,
12:40 they shall go with me. Now I will come unto you, when I shall
12:44 pass through Macedonia: for I do pass through Macedonia.
12:48 And it may be that I will abide, yea, and winter with you,
12:52 that ye may bring me on my journey whithersoever I go.
12:55 For I will not see you now by the way; but I trust to tarry a
12:59 while with you, if the Lord permit. But I will tarry at
13:03 Ephesus until Pentecost. For a great door and effectual
13:07 is opened unto me and there are many adversaries.
13:10 Now, is Timotheus come, see that he may be with you without fear
13:15 for he worketh the work of the Lord, as I also do.
13:18 Let no man therefore despise him but conduct him forth in peace,
13:23 that he may come unto me: for I look for him with the brethren.
13:26 As touching our brother Apollos, I greatly desired him to come
13:30 unto you with the brethren: but his will was not at all to
13:33 come at this time; but he will come when he shall have
13:36 convenient time. Watch ye, stand fast in the faith, quit you like
13:42 men. Be strong. Let all your things be done with charity.
13:48 I beseech you, brethren, ye know the house of Stephanas, that it
13:53 is the firstfruits of Achaia, and that they have addicted
13:56 themselves to the ministry of the saints,
13:58 that ye submit yourselves unto such, and to every one that
14:02 helpeth with us, and laboureth. I am glad of the coming of
14:06 Stephanas and Fortunatus and Achaicus: for that which was
14:10 lacking on your part they have supplied. For they have
14:14 refreshed my spirit and yours: therefore
14:19 acknowledge ye them that are such.
14:20 Thank you for reading with me today.
14:22 Let's close by taking these words from Paul
14:25 and putting them in our hearts. Therefore be steadfast
14:29 unmovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord.
14:33 Thank you and Goodbye.
