00:16 7Hi, and welcome back to His Words Are Life.
00:19 I'm Kelly Mowrer, and thank you for coming apart to read
00:22 God's word with me today. Before we start, Let's pray together.
00:25 Dear God, thank you so much for loving us
00:29 and for putting in our hearts a desire to know you more
00:33 and today as we read, especially of your love for us,
00:37 come close and make it real so that we not only hear the words
00:42 but we know them for sure in our hearts and we build on them
00:46 like a solid rock and become better servants to you
00:51 and to each other. We love you so much.
00:54 Again, I'm reading today from the book of Romans,
00:57 in the King James version. We're starting in chapter eight,
01:01 with verse 35, one of the most beautiful passages in the Bible.
01:05 I think. - Who shall separate us from the love of Christ,
01:08 shall tribulation, or distress,
01:10 or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril
01:15 or sword? As it is written, For thy sake we are killed
01:20 all the day long. We are accounted as sheep for the
01:23 slaughter. Nay in all these things we are more than
01:28 conquerors through him that loved us. For I am persuaded,
01:32 that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities,
01:36 nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height,
01:42 nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able
01:47 to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus
01:51 our Lord. - continuing in Romans chapter nine.
01:55 And I am reading from the King James version. -
01:57 I say the truth in Christ, I lie not, my conscience also bearing
02:04 witness in the Holy Ghost, that I have great heaviness
02:08 and continual sorrow in my heart. For I could wish that
02:13 myself were accursed from Christ for my brethren, my kinsmen
02:17 according to the flesh: Who are Israelites; to whom pertaineth
02:20 the adoption, and the glory, and the covenants,
02:23 and the giving of the law, and the service of God,
02:25 and the promises; Whose are the fathers, and of whom
02:30 as concerning the flesh Christ came, who is over all,
02:33 God blessed for ever. Amen. Not as though the word of God
02:38 hath taken none effect. For they are not all Israel,
02:42 which are of Israel: Neither, because they are the seed of
02:46 Abraham, are they all children: but, in Isaac shall thy seed
02:51 be called. That is, They which are the children of the flesh,
02:55 these are not the children of God: but the children of the
02:58 promise are counted for the seed.
03:01 For this is the word of promise, At this time will I come,
03:06 and Sarah shall have a son. And not only this;
03:09 but when Rebecca also had conceived by one,
03:12 even by our father Isaac; - For the children being not yet born,
03:16 neither having done any good or evil, that the purpose of God
03:21 according to election might stand, not of works,
03:24 but of him that calleth. - It was said unto her,
03:28 The elder shall serve the younger. As it is written,
03:33 Jacob have I loved, but Esau have I hated.
03:36 What shall we say then? Is there unrighteousness with God?
03:41 God forbid. For he saith to Moses, I will have mercy
03:45 on whom I will have mercy. and I will have compassion on whom
03:51 I will have compassion. So then it is not of him that willeth,
03:56 nor of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth mercy.
04:01 For the scripture saith unto Pharaoh, Even for this same
04:05 purpose have I raised thee up, that I might shew my power
04:09 in thee, and that my name might be declared throughout all the
04:12 earth. Therefore hath he mercy whom he will have mercy,
04:17 and whom he will he hardeneth. Thou wilt say then unto me,
04:23 Why doth he yet find fault? For who hath resisted his will?
04:27 Nay but, O man, who art thou that repliest against God?
04:32 Shall the thing formed say to him that formed it,
04:37 Why hast thou made me thus? Hath not the potter power
04:42 over the clay, of the same lump to make one vessel unto honor,
04:46 and another unto dishonor? What if God, willing to shew
04:52 his wrath, and to make his power known, endured with much
04:57 longsuffering the vessels of wrath fitted to destruction:
05:01 And that he might make known the riches of his glory
05:05 on the vessels of mercy, whom he had afore prepared unto glory
05:09 Even us, whom he hath called, not of the Jews only,
05:14 but also of the Gentiles? As he saith also in Osee,
05:19 I will call them my people, which were not my people;
05:23 and her beloved, which was not beloved.
05:25 which was not my beloved. And it shall come to pass,
05:29 that in the place where it was said unto them, Ye are not my
05:32 people; there shall they be called the children
05:36 of the living God. Esaias also crieth concerning Israel,
05:41 Though the number of the children of Israel be as the
05:44 sand of the sea, a remnant shall be saved:
05:48 for he will finish the work, and cut it short in righteousness:
05:52 because a short work will the Lord make upon the earth.
05:56 And as Esaias said before, Except the Lord of Sabboth
06:01 had left us a seed, we had been as Sodom, and been made like
06:06 unto Gomorrah. What shall we say then? That the Gentiles,
06:11 which followed not after righteousness, have attained
06:14 to righteousness, even the righteousness which is of faith.
06:16 But Israel, which followed after the law of righteousness,
06:21 hath not attained to the law of righteousness. Wherefore?
06:26 Because they sought it not by faith, but as it were
06:31 by the works of the law. For they stumbled
06:35 at that stumbling stone; As it is written, Behold I lay in Zion
06:40 a stumbling stone and rock of offence: and whosoever
06:44 believeth on him shall not be ashamed.
06:47 We're reading from the King James Version,
06:49 in the Book of Romans, chapter 10.
06:52 Brethren, my hearts desire and prayer to God for Israel is that
06:59 they might be saved. For I bear them record
07:01 that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge.
07:05 For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about
07:11 to establish their own righteousness,
07:13 have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God.
07:17 For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness
07:21 to everyone that believeth. For Moses describeth
07:25 the righteousness which is of the law, That the man which
07:29 doeth those things shall live by them.
07:31 But the righteousness which is of faith speaketh on this wise,
07:36 Say not in thine heart, Who shall ascend into heaven?
07:40 - that is to bring Christ down from above: -
07:43 Or, Who shall descend into the deep?
07:47 - that is to bring up Christ again from the dead. -
07:50 But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth,
07:55 and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach;
08:00 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus,
08:04 and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him
08:08 from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart
08:12 man believeth unto righteousness and with the mouth confession
08:16 is made unto salvation. For the scripture saith,
08:20 Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.
08:23 For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek:
08:26 for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call
08:31 upon him. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord
08:34 shall be saved. How then shall they call on him
08:39 in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in
08:43 him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear
08:46 without a preacher? And how shall they preach
08:49 except they be sent? as it is written,
08:53 How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel
08:56 of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!
08:59 But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Esaias saith,
09:04 Lord, who hath believed our report?
09:06 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
09:13 But I say, Have they not heard? Yes verily, their sound
09:19 went into all the earth, and their words unto the ends of
09:21 the world. But I say, Did not Israel know? First Moses saith,
09:28 I will provoke you to jealousy by them that are no people,
09:31 and by a foolish nation I will anger you.
09:34 But Esaias is very bold, and saith, I was found of them
09:40 that sought me not; I was made manifest unto them
09:43 that asked not after me. But to Israel he saith,
09:48 All day long I have stretched forth my hands
09:51 unto a disobedient and gainsaying people.
09:56 Continuing on in the book of Romans, chapter 11.
09:59 I say then, Hath God cast away his people? God forbid.
10:05 For I also am and Israelite, of the seed of Abraham,
10:09 of the tribe of Benjamin. God hath not cast away his people
10:12 which he foreknew. Wot ye not what the scripture saith of
10:16 Elias? how he maketh intercession to God
10:19 against Israel, saying, Lord, they have killed thy prophets
10:22 and digged down thine altars; and I am left alone,
10:25 and they seek my life. But what saith the answer of God
10:28 unto him? I have reserved to myself seven thousand men,
10:34 who have not bowed the knee to the image of Baal.
10:37 Even so then at this present time also there is a remnant
10:41 according to the election of grace. And if by grace,
10:46 then it is no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace
10:50 but if it be of works, then is it no more grace:
10:54 otherwise work is no more work. What then?
10:57 Israel hath not obtained that which he seeketh for;
11:01 but the election hath obtained it, and the rest were blinded.
11:06 - According as it is written, God hath given them
11:09 the spirit of slumber, eyes that they should not see, and ears
11:15 that they should not hear; - unto this day.
11:18 And David saith, Let their table be made a snare, and a trap,
11:22 and a stumbling block, and a recompense unto them:
11:24 Let their eyes be darkened that they may not see,
11:27 and bow down their back alway. I say then, Have they stumbled
11:33 that they should fall? God forbid:
11:35 But rather through their fall salvation is come
11:39 unto the Gentiles, for to provoke them to jealousy.
11:43 Now if the fall of them be the riches of the world,
11:47 and the diminishing of them the riches of the Gentiles;
11:49 how much more their fullness? For I speak to you Gentiles,
11:54 inasmuch as I am the apostle of the Gentiles,
11:57 I magnify mine office: If by any means I may provoke to emulation
12:03 them which are my flesh, and and might save some of them.
12:07 For if the casting away of them be the reconciling of the world,
12:11 what shall the receiving of them be, but life from the dead?
12:15 For if the firstfruit be holy, the lump is also holy:
12:18 the lump is also holy: and if the root be holy,
12:22 so are the branches. And if some of the branches
12:25 be broken off, and thou, being a wild olive tree, wert grafted
12:30 in among them, and with them partakest of the root
12:34 and fatness of the olive tree; Boast not against the branches.
12:38 But if thou boast, thou barest not the root, but the root thee.
12:44 Thou wilt say then, The branches were broken off,
12:47 that I might be grafted in. Well; because of unbelief
12:53 they were broken off, and thou standest by faith.
12:56 Be not high-minded, but fear: for if God spared not
13:02 the natural branches, take heed lest he also spare not thee.
13:08 Behold therefore the goodness and severity of God:
13:13 on them which fell, severity; but toward thee, goodness,
13:19 if thou continue in his goodness:
13:23 otherwise thou also shalt be cut off. And they also,
13:29 if they abide not still in unbelief, shall be grafted in:
13:34 for God is able to graft them in again
13:38 For if thou wert cut out of the olive tree which is wild
13:42 by nature, and wert grafted contrary to nature
13:45 into a good olive tree: how much more shall these,
13:48 which be the natural branches, be grafted into their own
13:53 olive tree? For I would not, brethren, that ye should be
13:57 ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own
14:00 conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel,
14:05 until the fullness of the Gentiles be come in.
14:07 And so all Israel shall be saved: as it is written,
14:13 There shall come out of Zion the Deliverer,
14:16 and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob:
14:20 Thank you for coming apart with me today to read these words of
14:25 life. Until we're together again may the God of all hope
14:29 keep you in peace and faith, believing our Lord Jesus Christ.
