00:15 Hi, and welcome again to HIS WORDS ARE LIFE,
00:18 I'm Kelly Mowrer. 00:19 Today we'll be reading from the King James Version 00:22 in the book of Acts, 00:23 but before we start let's pray together. 00:25 Dear Jesus, we come apart now to spend time with You reading the 00:31 words that You've given to us to guide us, to comfort us, 00:35 to help us to understand You better, 00:38 and some of us come with burdens in our heart about finances, 00:43 or health, or family, people we love a lot. 00:48 Please take those burdens, and at the end of this time may we 00:52 sense You with us in a closer way, and may we know how much 00:57 You care for us, and how much You love us, more than we 01:01 did before, and may we love You more and serve you better. 01:05 Thank you, Jesus. Amen. 01:07 I'm reading from the King James Version, in the book of Acts, 01:11 Chapter 20. 01:13 Paul is speaking and we'll begin with Verse 22. 01:17 And now, behold, I go bound in the spirit unto Jerusalem, 01:23 not knowing the things that shall befall me there: 01:26 save that the Holy Ghost witnesseth in every city, 01:30 saying that bonds and afflictions abide me. 01:33 But none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear 01:38 unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, 01:42 and the ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus, 01:45 to testify the gospel of the grace of God. 01:49 And now, behold, I know that ye all, among whom I have gone 01:55 preaching the kingdom of God, shall see my face no more. 01:59 Wherefore I take you to record this day, that I am pure from 02:04 the blood of all men. 02:06 For I have not shunned to declare unto you all the 02:09 counsel of God. 02:10 Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the 02:13 flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, 02:17 to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with 02:21 his own blood. 02:22 For I know this, that after my departing shall grievous wolves 02:27 enter in among you, not sparing the flock. 02:30 Also of your own selves shall men arise, speaking perverse 02:34 things, to draw away disciples after them. 02:37 Therefore watch, and remember, that by the space of three years 02:42 I ceased not to warn every one night and day with tears. 02:46 And now, brethren, I commend you to God, and to the word of 02:51 his grace, which is able to build you up, and to give you an 02:55 inheritance among all them which are sanctified. 02:58 I have coveted no man's silver, or gold, or apparel. 03:03 Yea, ye yourselves know, that these hands have ministered unto 03:08 my necessities, and to them that were with me. 03:11 I have showed you all things, how that so laboring ye ought to 03:16 support the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord 03:19 Jesus, how he said, It is more blessed to give than to receive. 03:24 And when he had thus spoken, he kneeled down, and prayed 03:28 with them all. 03:30 And they all wept sore, and fell on Paul's neck, and kissed him, 03:34 Sorrowing most of all for the words which he spake, 03:37 that they should see his face no more. 03:39 And they accompanied him unto the ship. 03:42 Again, we're reading from the book of Acts, the King James 03:46 Version, starting out with Chapter 21. 03:49 And it came to pass, that after we were gotten from them, 03:53 and had launched, we came with a straight course unto Coos, 03:57 and the day following unto Rhodes, and from thence unto 04:01 Patara: and finding a ship sailing over unto Phoenicia, 04:04 we went aboard, and set forth. 04:06 Now when we had discovered Cyprus, we left it on the left 04:11 hand, and sailed into Syria, and landed at Tyre: for there the 04:15 ship was to unlade her burden. 04:17 And finding disciples, we tarried there seven days: 04:21 who said to Paul through the Spirit, that he should not 04:24 go up to Jerusalem. 04:25 And when we had accomplished those days, we departed and went 04:29 our way; and they all brought us on our way, with wives and 04:33 children, till we were out of the city: and we kneeled down 04:37 on the shore, and prayed. 04:39 And when we had taken our leave one of another, we took ship; 04:43 and they returned home again. 04:45 And when we had finished our course from Tyre, we came to 04:49 Ptolemais, and saluted the brethren, and abode with 04:52 them one day. 04:53 And the next day we that were of Paul's company departed, 04:56 and came unto Caesarea; and we entered into the house of Philip 05:00 the evangelist, which was one of the seven; and abode with him. 05:04 And the same man had four daughters, virgins, 05:07 which did prophesy. 05:09 And as we tarried there many days, there came down from Judea 05:13 a certain prophet, named Agabus. 05:16 And when he was come unto us, he took Paul's girdle, 05:20 and bound his own hands and feet, and said, Thus saith the 05:24 Holy Ghost, So shall the Jews at Jerusalem bind the man that 05:29 owneth this girdle, and shall deliver him into the hands 05:33 of the Gentiles. 05:35 And when we heard these things, both we, and they of that place, 05:40 besought him not to go up to Jerusalem. 05:43 Then Paul answered, What mean ye to weep and to break mine heart? 05:49 for I am ready not to be bound only, but also to die at 05:54 Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus. 05:56 And when he would not be persuaded, we ceased, saying, 06:00 The will of the Lord be done. 06:02 And after those days we took up our carriages, 06:05 and went up to Jerusalem. 06:06 There went with us also certain of the disciples of Caesarea, 06:12 and brought with them one Mnason of Cyprus, an old disciple, 06:16 with whom we should lodge. 06:18 And when we were come to Jerusalem, the brethren 06:21 received us gladly. 06:22 And the day following Paul went in with us unto James; 06:26 and all the elders were present. 06:28 And when he had saluted them, he declared particularly what 06:32 things God had wrought among the Gentiles by his ministry. 06:35 And when they heard it, they glorified the Lord, 06:39 and said unto him, Thou seest, brother, how many thousands of 06:43 Jews there are which believe; and they are all zealous of the 06:47 law: and they are informed of thee, that thou teachest all the 06:51 Jews which are among the Gentiles to forsake Moses, 06:55 saying that they ought not to circumcise their children, 06:58 neither to walk after the customs. 07:00 What is it therefore? the multitude must needs come 07:04 together: for they will hear that thou art come. 07:07 Do therefore this that we say to thee: We have four men which 07:13 have a vow on them; them take, and purify thyself with them, 07:17 and be at charges with them, that they may shave their heads: 07:21 and all may know that those things, whereof they were 07:25 informed concerning thee, are nothing; but that thou thyself 07:28 also walkest orderly, and keepest the law. 07:31 As touching the Gentiles which believe, we have written 07:36 and concluded that they observe no such thing, save only that 07:39 they keep themselves from things offered to idols, 07:42 and from blood, and from strangled, and from fornication. 07:45 Then Paul took the men, and the next day purifying himself with 07:51 them entered into the temple, to signify the accomplishment of 07:55 the days of purification, until that an offering should be 07:59 offered for every one of them. 08:00 And when the seven days were almost ended, the Jews which 08:05 were of Asia, when they saw him in the temple, stirred up all 08:10 the people, and laid hands on him, crying out, Men of Israel, 08:14 help: This is the man, that teacheth all men every where 08:17 against the people, and the law, and this place: and further 08:22 brought Greeks also into the temple, and hath polluted 08:26 this holy place. 08:27 (For they had seen before with him in the city Trophimus an 08:31 Ephesian, whom they supposed that Paul had brought 08:34 into the temple.) 08:35 And all the city was moved, and the people ran together: 08:40 and they took Paul, and drew him out of the temple: 08:42 and forthwith the doors were shut. 08:45 And as they went about to kill him, tidings came unto the chief 08:49 captain of the band, that all Jerusalem was in an uproar. 08:52 Who immediately took soldiers and centurions, and ran down 08:56 unto them: and when they saw the chief captain and the 08:58 soldiers, they left beating of Paul. 09:01 then the chief captain came near, and took him, 09:04 and commanded him to be bound with two chains; and demanded 09:08 who he was, and what he had done. 09:10 And some cried one thing, some another, among the multitude: 09:14 and when he could not know the certainty for the tumult, 09:18 he commanded him to be carried into the castle. 09:21 And when he came upon the stairs, so it was, that he was 09:24 borne of the soldiers for the violence of the people. 09:27 For the multitude of the people followed after, crying, 09:30 Away with him. 09:31 And as Paul was to be led into the castle, he said unto the 09:35 chief captain, May I speak unto thee? 09:38 Who said, Canst thou speak Greek? 09:41 Art not thou that Egyptian, which before these days madest 09:45 an uproar, and leddest out into the wilderness four thousand men 09:49 that were murderers? 09:50 But Paul said, I am a man which am a Jew of Tarsus, a city in 09:56 Cilicia, a citizen of no mean city: and, I beseech thee, 10:00 suffer me to speak unto the people. 10:03 And when he had given him license, Paul stood on the 10:06 stairs, and beckoned with the hand unto the people. 10:09 And when there was made a great silence, he spake unto them 10:13 in the Hebrew tongue, saying 10:15 Again, we're reading from the book of Acts, Chapter 22. 10:22 Men, brethren, and fathers, hear ye my defense which I make 10:28 now unto you. 10:29 (And when they hard that he spake in the Hebrew tongue to 10:32 them, they kept the more silence: and he saith,) 10:36 I am verily a man which am a Jew, born in Tarsus, a city in 10:42 Cilicia, yet brought up in this city at the feet of Gamaliel, 10:46 and taught according to the perfect manner of the law of the 10:49 fathers, and was zealous toward God, as ye all are this day. 10:53 And I persecuted this way unto the death, binding and 10:58 delivering into prisons both men and women. 11:01 As also the high priest doth bear me witness, and all the 11:05 estate of the elders: from whom also I received letters unto the 11:09 brethren, and went to Damascus, to bring them which were there 11:12 bound unto Jerusalem, for to be punished. 11:16 And it came to pass, that, as I made my journey, and was come 11:20 nigh unto Damascus about noon, suddenly there shown from heaven 11:25 a great light round about me. 11:27 And I fell unto the ground, and heard a voice saying unto me, 11:31 Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me? 11:34 And I answered, Who art thou, Lord? 11:38 And he said unto me, I am Jesus of Nazareth, 11:42 whom thou persecutest. 11:44 And they that were with me saw indeed the light, 11:47 and were afraid; but they heard not the voice of him that 11:50 spake to me. 11:51 And I said, What shall I do Lord? 11:54 And the Lord said unto me, Arise, and go into Damascus; 11:58 and there it shall be told thee of all things which are 12:01 appointed for thee to do. 12:03 And when I could not see for the glory of that light, 12:07 being led by the hand of them that were with me, 12:10 I came into Damascus. 12:11 And one Ananias, a devout man according to the law, 12:16 having a good report of all the Jews which dwelt there, 12:19 came unto me, and stood, and said unto me, Brother Saul, 12:24 receive thy sight. 12:26 And the same hour I looked up upon him. 12:29 And he said, The God of our fathers hath chosen thee, 12:35 that thou shouldest know his will, and see that Just One, 12:39 and shouldest hear the voice of his mouth. 12:41 For thou shalt be his witness unto all men of what thou hast 12:46 seen and heard. 12:48 And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, 12:52 and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord. 12:56 And it came to pass, that, when I was come again to Jerusalem, 13:01 even while I prayed in the temple, I was in a trance; 13:05 and saw him saying unto me, Make haste, and get the quickly 13:09 out of Jerusalem: for they will not receive thy testimony 13:12 concerning me. 13:13 And I said, Lord, they know that I imprisoned and beat 13:17 in every synagogue them that believed on thee: and when the 13:21 blood of thy martyr Stephen was shed, I also was standing by, 13:25 and consenting unto his death, and kept the raiment of them 13:29 that slew him. 13:30 And he said unto me, Depart: for I will send thee far hence 13:35 unto the Gentiles. 13:37 And they gave him audience unto this word, and then lifted up 13:41 their voices, and said, Away with such a fellow from the 13:44 earth: for it is not fit that he should live. 13:46 And as they cried out, and cast off their clothes, 13:49 and threw dust into the air, the chief captain commanded him 13:53 to be brought into the castle, and bade that he should be 13:56 examined by scourging; that he might know wherefore they 13:59 cried so against him. 14:01 And as they bound him with thongs, Paul said unto the 14:04 centurion that stood by, Is it lawful to you to scourge a man 14:08 that is a Roman, and uncondemned? 14:11 When the centurion heard that, he went and told the chief 14:15 captain, saying, Take heed what thou doest: for this |
