00:16 Hi, and welcome back to His Words Are Life.
00:19 I'm Kelly Mowrer.
00:20 We'll be reading today from the book of Acts, and we'll be
00:23 reading Chapter 7, beginning with Verse 10.
00:28 But before we read let's go to God in prayer.
00:30 Dear Jesus, thank You so much for Your presence
00:35 in our lives every day.
00:37 Thank You for Your wisdom that we can come to Your word and
00:40 read, and grow to be more like You.
00:43 Please send Your Holy Spirit now as we read, to make this
00:47 message a message not just heard, but put into practice,
00:52 so that we may serve You and others better.
00:54 We love You so much!
00:56 Amen.
00:57 Again, I'm reading from the King James Version in the book
01:00 of Acts, Chapter 7.
01:02 And when we were last together we were reading about Stephen.
01:04 He's standing before the council, and he's speaking of
01:07 God and how when Joseph was sold into slavery in Egypt,
01:11 God was with him.
01:12 And we'll begin in Verse 10.
01:15 And delivered him out of all his afflictions, and gave him favor
01:20 and wisdom in the sight of Pharaoh king of Egypt;
01:23 and he made him governor over Egypt and all his house.
01:27 Now there came a dearth over all the land of Egypt and Canaan,
01:31 and great affliction: and our fathers found no sustenance.
01:36 But when Jacob heard that there was corn in Egypt, he sent out
01:40 our fathers first.
01:42 And at the second time Joseph was made known to his brethren;
01:46 and Joseph's kindred was made known unto Pharaoh.
01:50 Then sent Joseph, and called his father Jacob to him, and all his
01:54 kindred, threescore and fifteen souls.
01:57 So Jacob went down into Egypt, and died, he, and our fathers,
02:02 and were carried over into Sychem, and laid in the
02:05 sepulcher that Abraham bought for a sum of money of the sons
02:08 of Emmor, the father of Sychem.
02:10 But when the time of the promise drew nigh, which God had sworn
02:15 to Abraham, the people grew and multiplied in Egypt,
02:19 till another king arose, which knew not Joseph.
02:23 The same dealt subtly with our kindred, and evil entreated our
02:28 fathers, so that they cast out their young children, to the end
02:33 they might not live.
02:34 In which time Moses was born, and was exceeding fair,
02:38 and nourished up in his father's house three months:
02:41 and when he was cast out, Pharaoh's daughter took him up,
02:45 and nourished him for her own son.
02:48 And Moses was learned in all the wisdom of the Egyptians,
02:52 and was mighty in words and in deeds.
02:55 And when he was full forty years old, it came into his heart
03:00 to visit his brethren the children of Israel.
03:03 And seeing one of them suffer wrong, he defended him,
03:08 and avenged him that was oppressed, and smote the
03:12 Egyptian: for he supposed his brethren would have understood
03:15 how that God by his hand would deliver them;
03:18 but they understood not.
03:20 And the next day he showed himself unto them as they
03:23 strove, and would have set them at one again, saying,
03:26 Sirs, ye are brethren; why do ye wrong one to another?
03:30 But he that did his neighbor wrong thrust him away, saying,
03:35 Who made thee a ruler and a judge over us?
03:37 Wilt thou kill me, as thou didst the Egyptian yesterday?
03:41 Then fled Moses at this saying, and was a stranger in the land
03:46 of Midian, where he begat two sons.
03:49 And when forty years were expired, there appeared to him
03:52 in the wilderness of mount Sinai an angel of the Lord in a flame
03:56 of fire in a bush.
03:58 When Moses saw it, he wondered at the sight: and as he drew
04:02 near to behold it, the voice of the Lord came unto him, saying,
04:06 I am the God of thy fathers, the God of Abraham,
04:09 and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.
04:12 Then Moses trembled, and durst not behold.
04:17 Then said the Lord to him, Put off thy shoes from thy feet:
04:21 for the place where thou standest is holy ground.
04:25 I have seen, I have seen the affliction of my people which is
04:30 in Egypt, and I have heard their groaning, and am come down to
04:34 deliver them.
04:35 And now come, I will send thee into Egypt.
04:39 This Moses whom they refused, saying, Who made thee a ruler
04:45 and a judge? the same did God send to be a ruler and
04:50 a deliverer by the hand of the angel which appeared to him
04:53 in the bush.
04:54 He brought them out, after that he had showed wonders and signs
05:00 in the land of Egypt, and in the Red sea, and in the wilderness
05:03 forty years.
05:04 This is that Moses, which said unto the children of Israel,
05:08 A Prophet shall the Lord your God raise up unto you of your
05:12 brethren, like unto me; him shall ye hear.
05:16 This is he, that was in the church in the wilderness with
05:19 the angel which spake to him in the mount Sinai, and with our
05:23 fathers: who received the lively oracles to give unto us:
05:27 to whom our fathers would not obey, but thrust him from them,
05:32 and in their hearts turned back again into Egypt,
05:35 saying unto Aaron, Make us gods to go before us: for as for
05:40 this Moses, which brought us out of the land of Egypt, we wot not
05:43 what is become of him.
05:44 And they made a calf in those days, and offered sacrifice unto
05:48 the idol, and rejoiced in the works of their own hands.
05:53 Then God turned, and gave them up to worship the host of
05:57 heaven; as it is written in the book of the prophets,
06:00 O ye house of Israel, have ye offered to me slain beasts and
06:04 sacrifices by the space of forty years in the wilderness?
06:08 Yea, ye took up the tabernacle of Moloch, and the star of your
06:13 god Remphan, figures which ye made to worship them:
06:16 and I will carry you away beyond Babylon.
06:20 Our fathers had the tabernacle of witness in the wilderness,
06:24 as he had appointed, speaking unto Moses, that he should make
06:28 it according to the fashion that he had seen.
06:31 Which also our fathers that came after brought in with Jesus
06:35 into the possession of the Gentiles, whom God drove out
06:39 before the face of our fathers, unto the days of David;
06:42 who found favor before God, and desired to find a tabernacle for
06:46 the God of Jacob.
06:47 But Solomon built him an house.
06:50 Howbeit the Most High dwelleth not in temples made with hands;
06:54 as saith the prophet, Heaven is my throne, and earth is my
06:58 footstool: what house will ye build me? saith the Lord:
07:02 or what is the place of my rest?
07:04 Hath not my hand made all these things?
07:07 Ye stiff-necked and uncircumcised in heart and ears,
07:12 ye do always resist the Holy Ghost: as your fathers did, so
07:16 do ye. Which of the prophets have not your fathers
07:20 persecuted? and they have slain them which showed before of the
07:23 coming of the Just One; of whom ye have been now the betrayers
07:28 and murderers: who have received the law by the
07:32 disposition of angels, and have not kept it.
07:35 When they heard these things, they were cut to the heart,
07:39 and they gnashed on him with their teeth.
07:42 But he, being full of the Holy Ghost, looked up steadfastly
07:48 into heaven, and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing
07:52 on the right hand of God, and said, Behold, I see the heavens
07:57 opened, and the Son of man standing on the
07:59 right hand of God.
08:00 Then they cried out with a loud voice, and stopped their ears,
08:04 and ran upon him with one accord, and cast him out of the
08:07 city, and stoned him: and the witnesses laid down their
08:12 clothes at a young man's feet, whose name was Saul.
08:15 And they stoned Stephen, calling upon God, and saying,
08:19 Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.
08:22 And he kneeled down, and cried with a loud voice, Lord, lay not
08:27 this sin to their charge.
08:29 And when he had said this, he fell asleep.
08:33 We're reading from the book of Acts, in the King James Version,
08:36 and we're going now to Chapter 8.
08:39 And Saul was consenting unto his death.
08:43 And at that time there was a great persecution against the
08:46 church which was at Jerusalem; and they were all scattered
08:49 abroad throughout the regions of Judea and Samaria,
08:52 except the apostles.
08:54 And devout men carried Stephen to his burial, and made great
08:58 lamentation over him.
09:00 As for Saul, he made havoc of the church, entering into every
09:05 house, and haling men and women committed them to prison.
09:09 Therefore they that were scattered abroad went everywhere
09:13 preaching the word.
09:14 Then Philip went down to the city of Samaria, and preached
09:18 Christ unto them.
09:19 And the people with one accord gave heed unto those things
09:23 which Philip spake, hearing, and seeing the miracles
09:26 which he did.
09:27 For unclean spirits, crying with loud voice, came out of many
09:32 that were possessed with them: and many taken with palsies,
09:35 and that were lame, were healed.
09:38 And there was great joy in that city.
09:41 But there was a certain man, called Simon, which beforetime
09:45 in the same city used sorcery, and bewitched the people of
09:49 Samaria, giving out that himself was some great one:
09:53 to whom they all gave heed, from the least to the greatest,
09:57 saying, This man is the great power of God.
10:00 And to him they had regard, because that of long time he had
10:04 bewitched them with sorceries.
10:06 But when they believed Philip preaching the things concerning
10:11 the kingdom of God, and the name of Jesus Christ,
10:13 they were baptized, both men and women.
10:16 Then Simon himself believed also: and when he was baptized,
10:21 he continued with Philip, and wondered, beholding the miracles
10:26 and signs where were done.
10:27 Now when the apostles which were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria
10:32 had received the word of God, they sent unto them Peter and
10:36 John: who, when they were come down, prayed for them,
10:39 that they might receive the Holy Ghost: (for as yet he was
10:44 fallen upon none of them: only they were baptized in the name
10:48 of the Lord Jesus.)
10:49 Then laid they their hands on them, and they received
10:53 the Holy Ghost.
10:55 And when Simon saw that through laying on of the apostles' hands
10:59 the Holy Ghost was given, he offered them money, saying,
11:03 Give me also this power, that on whomsoever I lay hands,
11:07 he may receive the Holy Ghost.
11:09 But Peter said unto him, Thy money perish with thee,
11:14 because thou hast thought that the gift of God may be purchased
11:18 with money.
11:19 Thou hast neither part nor lot in this matter: for thy heart
11:23 is not right in the sight of God.
11:25 Repent therefore of this thy wickedness, and pray God,
11:30 if perhaps the thought of thine heart may be forgiven thee.
11:33 For I perceive that thou art in the gall of bitterness,
11:37 and in the bond of iniquity.
11:39 Then answered Simon, and said, Pray ye to the Lord for me,
11:44 that none of these things which ye have spoken come upon me.
11:48 And they, when they had testified and preached the word
11:51 of the Lord, returned to Jerusalem, and preached the
11:54 gospel in many villages of the Samaritans.
11:57 And the angel of the Lord spake unto Philip, saying, Arise,
12:01 and go toward the south, unto the way that goeth down from
12:04 Jerusalem unto Gaza, which is desert.
12:07 And he arose and went: and, behold, a man of Ethiopia,
12:12 an eunuch of great authority under Candace queen of the
12:16 Ethiopians, who had the charge of all her treasure,
12:20 and had come to Jerusalem for to worship, was returning,
12:24 and sitting in his chariot read Esaias the prophet.
12:28 Then the Spirit said unto Philip, Go near, and join
12:33 thyself to this chariot.
12:35 And Philip ran thither to him, and heard him read the prophet
12:39 Isaiah, and said, Understandest thou what thou readest?
12:44 And he said, How can I, except some man should guide me?
12:49 And he desired Philip that he would come up and sit with him.
12:52 The place of the scripture which he read was this, He was led as
12:58 a sheep to the slaughter; and like a lamb dumb before his
13:02 shearer, so opened he not his mouth: in his humiliation his
13:07 judgment was taken away: and who shall declare
13:10 his generation? for his life is taken from the earth.
13:14 And the eunuch answered Philip, and said, I pray thee, of whom
13:17 speaketh the prophet this? of himself, or of some other man?
13:22 Then Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same scripture,
13:26 and preached unto him Jesus.
13:30 And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water:
13:34 and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me
13:38 to be baptized?
13:39 And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart,
13:43 thou mayest.
13:45 And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ
13:49 is the Son of God.
13:51 And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they went down
13:55 both into the water, both Philip and the eunuch;
13:58 and he baptized him.
14:00 And when they were come up out of the water, the Spirit of the
14:03 Lord caught away Philip, that the eunuch saw him no more:
14:07 and he went on his way rejoicing.
14:10 But Philip was found at Azotus: and passing through he preached
14:15 in all the cities, till he came to Caesarea.
14:19 Thank you again for being with us for the reading of the
14:23 precious word of God today.
14:24 And until we meet again for His Words Are Life, may He
14:27 keep you, and bless you, and may you know His love as
14:31 you serve Him and others.
14:33 Goodbye.
