00:17 Hello, and welcome to His Words Are Life.
00:20 I'm Kelly Mowrer. 00:21 Today we're going to be reading from the gospel of John. 00:25 But before we begin to read let's go to Him in prayer 00:27 and ask Him to be with us, and open our minds to what we're 00:30 about to hear. 00:31 Dear Heavenly Father, thank You so much that through all of 00:35 these centuries Your precious word has been preserved and kept 00:39 by Your children; our brothers and sisters who came before us, 00:43 And now today we are going to be blessed as we come into Your 00:47 presence, and we hear from You the words of life. 00:50 Please be with us now and give us understanding, 00:53 not just hearing. 00:55 We want to serve you better every day, and we love you. 00:57 Amen. 01:00 Again, I'm reading from the gospel of John in the 01:01 King James Version, in Chapter 20. 01:04 When we were last together John and Peter had run to the tomb 01:09 and had found it empty after Mary had gone there and told 01:12 them that they had taken the body, and she didn't know where 01:15 Jesus was. 01:16 They left again and Mary is now there alone. 01:19 She's stooped down and looked into where Jesus used to lay, 01:22 and she sees two angels there. 01:24 And we'll pick up now in Chapter 20, Verse 13. 01:29 And they say unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? She saith 01:36 unto them, Because they have taken away my Lord, and I know 01:38 not where they have laid him. 01:40 And when she had thus said, she turned herself back, 01:44 and saw Jesus standing, and knew not that it was Jesus. 01:49 Jesus saith unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? whom seekest thou? 01:55 She, supposing him to be the gardener, saith unto him, Sir, 02:00 if thou have borne him hence, tell me where thou hast laid 02:04 him, and I will take him away. 02:06 Jesus saith unto her, Mary. 02:10 She turned herself, and saith unto him, Rabboni; 02:14 which is to say, Master. 02:17 Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended 02:21 to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, 02:24 I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, 02:28 and your God. 02:30 Mary Magdalene came and told the disciples that she had seen the 02:34 Lord, and that he had spoken these things unto her. 02:37 Then the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, 02:41 when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled for 02:44 fear of the Jews, came Jesus and stood in the midst, and saith 02:49 unto them, Peace be unto you. 02:52 And when he had so said, he showed unto them his hands 02:56 and his side. 02:57 Then were the disciples glad, when they saw the Lord. 03:01 Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as my Father 03:07 hath sent me, even so send I you. 03:11 And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and saith unto 03:15 them, Receive ye the Holy Ghost: Whosoever sins ye remit, 03:20 they are remitted unto them; and whosesoever sins ye retain, 03:24 they are retained. 03:26 But Thomas, one of the twelve, called Didymus, was not with 03:30 them when Jesus came. 03:31 The other disciples therefore saith unto him, We have 03:35 seen the Lord. 03:36 But he said unto them, Except I shall see in his hands the print 03:41 of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, 03:46 and thrust my hand into his side, I will not believe. 03:50 And after eight days again his disciples were within, 03:55 and Thomas with them: then came Jesus, the doors being shut, 04:00 and stood in the midst, and said, Peace be unto you. 04:05 Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my 04:11 hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my 04:15 side: and be not faithless, but believing. 04:19 And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God. 04:25 Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, 04:30 thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, 04:35 and yet have believed. 04:38 And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of his 04:42 disciples, which are not written in this book: but these are 04:45 written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, 04:48 the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life 04:53 through his name. 04:59 After these things Jesus showed himself again to the disciples 05:06 at the sea of Tiberias; and on this wise showed he himself. 05:10 There were together Simon Peter, and Thomas called Didymus, 05:14 and Nathanael of Cana in Galilee, and the sons of 05:17 Zebedee, and two other of his disciples. 05:19 Simon Peter saith unto them, I go a fishing. 05:23 They say unto him, We also go with thee. 05:26 They went forth, and entered into a ship immediately: 05:29 and that night they caught nothing. 05:32 But when the morning was now come, Jesus stood on the shore: 05:35 but the disciples knew not that it was Jesus. 05:38 Then Jesus saith unto them, Children, have ye any meat? 05:43 They answered him, No. 05:45 And he said unto them, Cast the net on the right side of the 05:49 ship, and ye shall find. 05:52 They cast therefore, and now they were not able to draw it 05:56 for the multitude of fishes. 05:58 Therefore that disciple whom Jesus loved saith unto Peter, 06:01 It is the Lord. 06:02 Now when Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he girt his 06:06 fisher's coat unto him, and did cast himself 06:10 into the sea. 06:11 And the other disciples came in a little ship; (for they were 06:13 not far from land, but as it were two hundred cubits,) 06:17 dragging the net with fishes. 06:19 As soon then as they were come to land, they saw a fire of 06:23 coals there, and fish laid thereon, and bread. 06:27 Jesus saith unto them, Bring of the fish which ye 06:30 have now caught. 06:31 Simon Peter went up, and drew the net to land full of great 06:35 fishes, an hundred and fifty and three: and for all there were 06:39 so many, yet was not the net broken. 06:41 Jesus saith unto them, Come and dine. 06:44 And none of the disciples durst as him, Who art thou? knowing 06:49 that it was the Lord. 06:50 Jesus then cometh, and taketh bread, and giveth them, 06:55 and fish likewise. 06:57 This is now the third time that Jesus showed himself to his 07:01 disciples, after that he was risen from the dead. 07:04 So when they had dined, Jesus saith to Simon Peter, Simon, 07:08 son of Jonas, lovest thou me more than these? 07:12 He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. 07:16 He saith unto him, Feed my lambs. 07:20 He saith to him again the second time, Simon, son of Jonas, 07:23 lovest thou me? 07:25 He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. 07:29 He saith unto him, Feed my sheep. 07:32 He saith unto him the third time, Simon, son of Jonas, 07:37 lovest thou me? 07:38 Peter was grieved because he said unto him the third time, 07:42 Lovest thou me? 07:43 And he said unto him, Lord, thou knowest all things; 07:46 thou knowest that I love thee. 07:48 Jesus saith unto him, Feed my sheep. 07:52 Verily, verily, I say unto thee, When thou wast young, 07:57 thou girdedst thyself, and walkedst whither thou wouldest: 08:00 but when thou shalt be old, thou shalt stretch forth thy 08:04 hands, and another shall gird thee, and carry thee whither 08:08 thou wouldest not. 08:09 This spake he, signifying by what death he should 08:14 glorify God. 08:15 And When he had spoken this, he saith unto him, Follow me. 08:19 Then Peter, turning about, seeth the disciple whom Jesus 08:25 loved following; which also leaned on his breast at supper, 08:28 and said, Lord, which is he that betrayeth thee? 08:32 Peter seeing him saith to Jesus, Lord, 08:35 and what shall this man do? 08:38 Jesus saith unto him, If I will that he tarry till I come, 08:41 what is that to thee? follow thou me. 08:45 Then went this saying abroad among the brethren, 08:48 that that disciple should not die: yet Jesus said not unto 08:53 him, He shall not die; but, if I will that he tarry till I come, 08:58 what is that to thee? 08:59 This is the disciple which testifieth of these things, 09:04 and wrote these things: and we know that his testimony is true. 09:08 And there are also many other things which Jesus did, 09:12 the which, if they should be written every one, I suppose 09:16 that even the world itself could not contain the books 09:19 that should be written. 09:21 Amen. 09:22 (We're continuing on to read now from the Acts of the Apostles. 09:28 We will be beginning in Chapter 1, and reading from the 09:32 King James Version.) 09:33 the former treatise have I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus 09:40 began both to do and teach, until the day in which he was 09:44 taken up, after that he through the Holy Ghost had given 09:48 commandments unto the apostles whom he had chosen: 09:51 to whom also he showed himself alive after his passion by many 09:57 infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days, and speaking of 10:02 the things pertaining to the kingdom of God: and, being 10:07 assembled together with them, commanded them that they should 10:10 not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the 10:14 Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me. 10:18 For John truly baptized with water, but ye shall be baptized 10:23 with the Holy Ghost not many days hence. 10:25 When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, 10:29 saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom 10:33 to Israel? 10:34 And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the 10:39 seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power. 10:42 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is 10:47 come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in 10:50 Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and in Samaria, and unto the 10:55 uttermost part of the earth. 10:57 And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, 11:01 he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight. 11:07 And while they looked steadfastly toward heaven as he 11:10 went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel; 11:15 which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up 11:21 into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you 11:25 into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him 11:30 go into heaven. 11:31 Then returned they unto Jerusalem from the mount 11:34 called Olivet, which is from Jerusalem, 11:37 a Sabbath day's journey. 11:39 And when they were come in they went into the Upper Room 11:42 where abode both Peter, and James, and John, and Andrew, 11:46 Philip, and Thomas, Bartholomew, and Matthew, James the son of 11:50 Alphaeus, and Simon Zelotes, and Judas the brother of James. 11:54 These all continued with one accord, in prayer and 11:59 supplication, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, 12:02 and with his brethren. 12:04 And in those days Peter stood up in the midst of the disciples, 12:08 and said, (the number of names together were about an 12:11 hundred and twenty,) Men and brethren, this scripture 12:15 must needs have been fulfilled, which the Holy Ghost 12:17 by the mouth of David spake before concerning Judas, 12:21 which was guide to them that took Jesus. 12:24 For he was numbered with us, and had obtained part of 12:27 this ministry. Now this man purchased a field 12:30 with the reward of iniquity; and falling headlong, he burst 12:34 asunder in the midst, and all his bowels gushed out. 12:38 And it was known unto all the dwellers at Jerusalem; 12:41 insomuch as that field is called in their proper tongue, 12:45 Aceldama, that is to say, The field of blood. 12:49 For it is written in the book of Psalms, Let his habitation 12:53 be desolate, and let no man dwell therein: 12:56 and his bishoprick let another take. 12:59 Wherefore of these men which have companied with us 13:02 all the time that the Lord Jesus went in and out among us, 13:05 Beginning from the baptism of John, unto that same day 13:08 that he was taken up from us, must one be ordained to be a 13:12 witness with us of his resurrection. 13:15 And they appointed two, Joseph called Barsabas, 13:19 who was surnamed Justus, and Matthias. 13:22 And they prayed, and said, Thou, Lord, which knowest the hearts 13:26 of all men, shew whether of these two thou hast chosen, 13:30 That he may take part of this ministry and apostleship, 13:34 from which Judas by transgression fell, 13:36 that he might go to his own place. 13:38 And they gave forth their lots; and the lot fell upon Matthias; 13:42 and he was numbered with the eleven apostles. 13:45 We're reading from the Acts of the Apostles Chapter 2. 13:49 And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, 13:52 they were all with one accord in one place. 13:54 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing 13:58 mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they 14:02 were sitting. And there appeared unto them 14:04 cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. 14:08 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, 14:11 and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit 14:15 gave them utterance. 14:16 And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, 14:20 out of every nation under heaven. 14:22 Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, 14:26 and were confounded, because that every man heard them 14:31 speak in his own language. |
