00:17 Hi, and welcome to His Words Are Life.
00:19 I'm Kelly Mowrer. I'm so glad you're joining me today. 00:22 to read the word of God. I'll be reading from the gospel of Luke, 00:26 in the King James version. But before we read 00:28 Let's turn to God in prayer together. 00:30 Dear heavenly Father, thank you so much for your goodness 00:34 and mercy, for your kindness to us and that we have come 00:38 together at this time to again read your very word of life 00:42 to us. Please be with us as we read, that we not only hear but 00:46 understand the love and the kindness, the greatness 00:49 of who you are, revealed in the Bible. We love you, Jesus. 00:53 Amen. - Again, I'm reading today from the gospel of Luke, and 00:57 the King James version, chapter 22. When we were last together, 01:02 the story had begun of Jesus preparing for Passover and 01:05 calling his disciples and instructing them to 01:08 go into town and there they would meet a man with a pitcher 01:11 of water and they should follow him to his house. 01:13 Now, we'll pick up in verse 11. And ye shall say unto the 01:17 Goodman of the house, The Master saith unto thee, 01:20 Where is the guestchamber, where I shall eat the Passover 01:23 with my disciples? And he shall shew you a large upper room 01:26 furnished: there make ready. And they went, and found as 01:31 he had said unto them: and they made ready the Passover. 01:33 And when the hour was come, he sat down, and the 12 apostles 01:37 with him. And he said unto them, With desire 01:41 I have desired to eat this Passover with you 01:44 before I suffer: For I say unto you, 01:47 I will not anymore eat thereof, until it be fulfilled 01:49 in the kingdom of God. And he took the cup, and gave thanks, 01:54 and said, Take this, and divide it among yourselves: 01:58 For I say unto you, I will not drink of the fruit of the vine, 02:01 until the kingdom of God shall come. And he took bread, 02:06 and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave unto them, saying, 02:09 This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance 02:15 of me. Likewise also the cup after supper, saying, This cup 02:20 is the new testament in my blood which is shed for you. 02:23 But behold the hand of him that betrayeth me is with me on the 02:27 table. And truly the Son of man goeth, as it was determined: 02:31 but woe unto that man by whom he is betrayed! 02:35 And they began to inquire among themselves, which of them it was 02:39 that should do this thing. And there was also a strife among 02:43 them, which of them should be accounted the greatest. 02:46 And he said unto them, The kings of the Gentiles 02:50 exercise lordship over them; and they that exercise authority 02:54 upon them are called benefactors. 02:56 But ye shall not be so: but he that is greatest among you, 03:00 Let him be as the younger; and he that is chief, 03:04 as he that doth serve. For whether is greater, 03:08 He that sitteth at meat, or he that serveth? 03:11 is not he that sitteth at meat? but I am among you 03:15 as he that serveth. Ye are they which have continued with me 03:20 in my temptations. And I appoint unto you a kingdom, 03:23 as my Father hath appointed unto me; 03:25 That ye may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom, 03:29 and sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel. 03:34 And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan hath desired 03:39 to have you, that he may sift you as wheat: 03:41 But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not. 03:46 And when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren. 03:49 And he saith unto him, Lord, I am ready to go with thee 03:54 both into prison and to death. And he said, I tell thee Peter, 03:58 The cock shall not crow this day, before that thou shalt 04:02 thrice deny that thou knowest me. 04:04 And he said unto them, When I sent you without purse, 04:08 and scrip, and shoes, lacked ye anything? 04:11 And they said, Nothing. Then he said unto them, 04:15 But now, he that hath a purse, let him take it, and likewise 04:19 his scrip; and he that hath no sword, let him sell his garment 04:23 and buy one. For I say unto you, that this that is written 04:27 must yet be accomplished in me, And he was reckoned 04:30 among the transgressors: for the things concerning 04:33 me have an end. And they said, Lord, behold, here are 2 swords. 04:38 And he said unto them, It is enough. 04:41 And he came out and went as he was wont, to the mount of Olives 04:46 and his disciples also followed him. 04:49 And when he was at the place, he said unto them, 04:52 Pray that ye enter not unto temptation. 04:55 And he was withdrawn from them about a stone's cast, 04:58 and kneeled down, and prayed, saying, 05:00 Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: 05:04 nevertheless not my will, but thine be done. 05:09 And there appeared an angel unto him from heaven, 05:12 strengthening him. And being in agony 05:15 he prayed more earnestly: and his sweat was as it were 05:20 great drips of blood falling down to the ground. 05:23 And when he rose up from prayer, and was come to his disciples, 05:27 he found them sleeping for sorrow, And said unto them, 05:30 Why sleep ye? rise and pray, lest ye enter into temptation. 05:35 And while he yet spake, behold a multitude, 05:40 and he that was called Judas, one of the twelve, 05:42 went before them, and drew near unto Jesus to kiss him. 05:46 But Jesus said unto him, Judas, betrayest thou 05:52 the Son of man with a kiss? When they which were about him 05:56 saw what would follow, they said unto him, Lord, shall we smite 05:59 with the sword? And one of them smote the servant 06:02 of the high priest, and cut off his right ear. 06:04 And Jesus answered and said, Suffer ye thus far. 06:08 And he touched his ear, and healed him. 06:11 Then Jesus said unto the chief priests and captains 06:15 of the temple, and the elders, which were come to him, 06:18 Be ye come out as against a thief, with swords and staves? 06:23 When I was daily with you in the temple, ye stretched forth 06:27 no hands against me. but this is your hour, 06:30 and the power of darkness. Then took they him and led him, 06:35 and brought him into the high priest's house. 06:37 And Peter followed afar off. And when they had kindled a fire 06:42 in the midst of the hall, and were set down together, 06:45 Peter sat down among them. But a certain maid beheld him 06:49 as he sat by the fire, and earnestly looked upon him, 06:53 and said, This man was also with him, 06:56 And he denied him, saying, Woman, I know him not. 06:59 And after a little while, another saw him, 07:03 and said, Thou art also of them. And Peter said, Man, I am not. 07:07 And about the space of one hour after another confidently 07:12 affirmed, saying, Of a truth this fellow also was with him: 07:17 for he is a Galilean. And Peter said, 07:20 Man, I know not what thou sayest. And immediately, 07:24 while ye yet spake, the cock crew. 07:27 And the Lord turned, and looked upon Peter. 07:31 And Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how he had said 07:34 unto him, Before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice. 07:38 And Peter went out, and wept bitterly. 07:41 And the men that held Jesus mocked him, and smote him. 07:45 And when they had blindfolded him, they struck him on the face 07:48 and asked him, saying, Prophecy, who is it that smote thee? 07:53 And many other things blasphemously spake 07:56 they against him. And as soon as it was day, 07:59 the elders of the people and the chief priests and the scribes 08:02 came together, and led him into their council, saying, 08:05 Art thou the Christ? tell us. And he said unto them, 08:09 If I tell you, ye will not believe: And if I also ask you, 08:14 ye will not answer me, nor let me go. 08:17 Hereafter shall the Son of Man sit on the right hand 08:21 of the power of God. Then said they all, 08:25 Art thou then the Son of God? And he said unto them, 08:30 Ye say that I am. And they said, What need we 08:34 any further witness? for we ourselves have heard 08:36 of his own mouth. - I'm reading from the gospel 08:41 of Luke, the King James version, We are now beginning chapter 23. 08:45 And the whole multitude of them arose, and led him unto Pilate. 08:50 And they began to accuse him, saying, We found this fellow 08:53 perverting the nation, and forbidding to give tribute 08:56 to Caesar, saying that he himself is Christ a King. 08:59 And Pilate asked him, saying, Art thou the King of the Jews? 09:03 And he answered him and said, Thou sayest it. 09:07 Then said Pilate to the chief priests and to the people, 09:11 I find no fault in this man. And they were the more fierce, 09:17 saying, He stirreth up the people teaching throughout all 09:20 Jewry, beginning from Galilee to this place. 09:22 When Pilate heard of Galilee, he asked whether the man 09:26 were a Galilean. And as soon as he knew that he belonged unto 09:31 Herod's jurisdiction, he sent him to Herod, who himself 09:34 also was at Jerusalem at that time. And when Herod saw Jesus, 09:39 he was exceeding glad: for he was desirous to see him 09:42 of a long season, because he had heard many things of him; 09:45 And he hoped to have seen some miracle done by him. 09:48 Then he questioned with him in many words; but he answered 09:53 him nothing. And the chief priests and scribes stood 09:57 and vehemently accused him. And Herod with his men of war 10:01 set him at nought, and mocked him, and arrayed him 10:04 in a gorgeous robe, and sent him again to Pilate. 10:07 And the same day Pilate and Herod were made friends together 10:12 for before they were at enmity between themselves. 10:15 And Pilate, when he had called together the chief priests and 10:19 the rulers and the people, Said unto them, 10:22 Ye have brought this man unto me, as one that perverteth 10:25 the people: and behold, I having examined him before you, 10:30 have found no fault in this man touching those things whereof 10:34 ye accuse him: No, nor yet Herod: for I sent you to him; 10:39 and lo, nothing worthy of death is done unto him. 10:42 I will therefore chastise him, and release him. 10:46 For of necessity he must release one unto them at the feast. 10:50 And they cried out all at once, saying, Away with this man, 10:55 and release unto us Barabbas: Who for a certain sedition 10:59 made in the city, and for murder, was cast into prison. 11:03 Pilate therefore, willing to release Jesus, spake again 11:08 to them. But they cried Saying, Crucify him, crucify him. 11:13 And he said unto them the third time, Why, 11:16 what evil hath he done? I have found no cause of death in him: 11:19 I will therefore chastise him, and let him go. 11:23 And they were instant with loud voices, requiring that he might 11:27 be crucified. And the voices of them and of the chief priests 11:31 prevailed. And Pilate gave sentence that it should be 11:35 as they required. And he released unto them him 11:39 that for sedition and murder was cast into prison, 11:42 whom they had desired: but he delivered Jesus to their will. 11:46 And as they led him away, they laid hold upon one Simon, 11:50 a Cyrenian, coming out of the country, and on him they laid 11:54 the cross, that he might bear it after Jesus. 11:57 And there followed him a great company of people, and of women, 12:01 which also bewailed and lamented him. 12:04 But Jesus turning unto them, said, Daughters of Jerusalem, 12:08 weep not for me, but weep for yourselves, 12:11 and for your children. For, behold the days are coming, 12:14 in the which they shall say, Blessed are the barren, 12:17 and the wombs that never bare, and the paps which 12:19 never gave suck. Then shall they begin to say to the mountains, 12:23 Fall on us; and to the hills, cover us. For if they do 12:27 these things in a green tree, what shall be done in the dry? 12:31 And there were also two other, malefactors, led with him 12:35 to be put to death. And when they were come to the place, 12:38 which is called Calvary, there they Crucified Him, 12:41 and the malefactors, one on the right hand, and the other 12:45 on the left. Then said Jesus, Father forgive them; 12:49 for they know not what they do. And they parted his raiment, 12:53 and cast lots. And the people stood beholding. 12:56 And the rulers also with them derided him, saying, 12:59 He saved others; let him save himself, if he be Christ, 13:02 the chosen of God. And the soldiers also mocked him 13:06 coming to him, and offering him vinegar, and saying, 13:10 If thou be the king of the Jews save thyself. 13:12 And a superscription also was written over him in letters 13:17 of Greek, and Latin, and Hebrew, THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS. 13:22 And one of the malefactors which were hanged railed on him, 13:27 Saying, If thou be Christ, save thyself and us. 13:30 But the other answering rebuked him, saying, 13:34 Dost not thou fear God, seeing thou art in 13:38 the same condemnation? And we indeed justly; for we receive 13:43 the due reward of our deeds: but this man hath done nothing 13:47 amiss. And he said unto Jesus, Lord, remember me 13:52 when thou comest into thy kingdom. And Jesus said unto 13:55 to him, Verily I say unto thee Today, shalt thou be with me 14:00 in Paradise. And it was about the sixth hour, 14:03 and there was a darkness over all the earth until the 9th hour 14:06 and the sun was darkened, and the veil of the temple 14:09 was rent in the midst. And when Jesus had cried 14:13 with a loud voice, he said, Father into thy hands 14:17 I commend my spirit: and having said thus, he gave up the ghost. 14:23 Now when the centurion saw what was done, he glorified God, 14:27 saying, Certainly this was a righteous man. 14:31 Thank you for joining me today. |
