00:16 Hi, and thank you for joining me for His Words Are Life.
00:19 I'm Kelly Mowrer. I'll be reading today, 00:22 from the King James version, but before we go to the bible, 00:24 let's go to God in prayer. Dear Heavenly Father 00:28 thank you so much for these beautiful words 00:30 that you have given to us, the very life of life for us, please 00:35 be with us now as we read them. Help us to not just read them, 00:39 but to take them into our hearts that our lives will be changed, 00:43 and that you will be glorified. We love you so much. 00:45 Thank you. Amen. The last time we were together 00:50 we were reading from one of the most beautiful chapters in the 00:53 Bible. I think it is Luke, chapter 2, the story of 00:56 when Jesus was born and God and sinners were reconciled. 00:59 The angels had just come to the shepherds to bring them 01:01 the greatest tidings of great joy for all people, 01:05 and now, we continue on the story, I'm reading 01:07 Luke chapter two, and beginning with verse 15 01:10 And it came to pass, as the angels were gone away 01:15 from them into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, 01:18 Let us now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing 01:21 which is come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unto us. 01:23 And they came with haste, and found Mary, and Joseph, and the 01:27 babe lying in a manger. And when they had seen it they made known 01:31 abroad the saying which was told them concerning this child. 01:35 And all they that heard it wondered at those things 01:38 which were told them by the shepherds. But Mary kept all 01:42 these things, and pondered them in her heart. 01:44 And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God 01:48 for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told 01:52 unto them. And when eight days were accomplished 01:55 for the circumcising of the child, his name was called Jesus 01:59 which was so named of the angel before he was conceived 02:02 in the womb. And when the days of her purification according to 02:06 the law of Moses were accomplished, they brought 02:09 him to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord; 02:11 As it is written in the law of the Lord, 02:14 Every male that openeth the womb shall be called holy 02:17 to the Lord; and to offer a sacrifice according to that 02:21 which is said in the law of the Lord, A pair of turtledoves, 02:24 or two young pigeons. And, behold, there was a man 02:28 in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon; and the same man 02:32 was just and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel: 02:35 and the Holy Ghost was upon him. And it was revealed unto him by 02:40 the Holy Ghost, that he should not see death before he had seen 02:44 the Lord's Christ. And he came by the Spirit into the temple: 02:48 and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him 02:52 after the custom of the law, then took he him up in his arms 02:56 and blessed God, and said, Lord now lettest thou thy servant 03:02 depart in peace, according to thy word: For mine eyes have 03:06 seen thy salvation which thou hast prepared before the face 03:10 of all people; a light to lighten the Gentiles, 03:13 and the glory of thy people, Israel. 03:16 And Joseph and his mother marvelled at those things 03:20 which were spoken of him. And Simeon blessed them, 03:23 and said unto Mary his mother, Behold, this child is set for 03:28 the fall and rising again of many in Israel; and for a sign 03:33 which shall be spoken against; Yea a sword shall pierce through 03:37 thy own soul also, that the thoughts of many hearts 03:41 may be revealed. And there was one Anna, a prophetess, the 03:46 daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Aser: 03:49 she was of a great age, and had lived with an husband 03:52 seven years from her virginity; And she was a widow of about 03:55 fourscore and four years, which departed not from the temple 03:59 but served God with fastings and prayers night and day. 04:03 And she coming in that instant gave thanks likewise 04:07 unto the Lord, and spake of him to all them that looked 04:11 for redemption in Jerusalem. And when they had performed 04:15 all things according to the law of the Lord, they returned 04:18 into Galilee, to their own city Nazareth. And the child grew, 04:23 and waxed strong in spirit, filled with wisdom: 04:26 and the grace of God was upon him. Now his parents went to 04:31 Jerusalem every year at the feast of the passover. 04:33 And when he was twelve years old, they went up to Jerusalem 04:37 after the custom of the feast. And when they had fulfulled 04:40 the days, as they returned, the child Jesus tarried behind in 04:45 Jerusalem; and Joseph and his mother knew not of it. But they, 04:49 supposing him to have been in the company went a day's journey 04:53 and they sought him among their kinsfolk and acquaintance. 04:56 And when they found him not, they turned back again 05:00 to Jerusalem, seeking him. And it came to pass, 05:03 that after three days they found him in the temple, 05:07 sitting in the midst of the doctors, both hearing them 05:10 and asking them questions. And all that heard him 05:14 were astonished at his understanding and answers. 05:17 And when they saw him, they were amazed: 05:20 and his mother said unto him, Son, why hast thou thus dealt 05:24 with us? behold thy father and I have sought thee sorrowing. 05:28 And he said unto them, How is it that ye sought me? wist ye not 05:33 that I must be about my Father's business? And they understood 05:38 not the saying which he spake unto them. And he went down 05:41 with them, and came to Nazareth, and was subject unto them: 05:45 but his mother kept all these sayings in her heart. 05:48 And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour 05:53 with God and man. - I'm reading from the gospel of Luke, 05:58 chapter 3. Now in the fifteenth year 06:02 of the reign of Tiberius Caesar, Pontius Pilate being governor 06:06 of Judaea, and Herod being tetrarch of Galilee, 06:09 and his brother Philip tetrarch of Ituraea and of the region 06:14 of Trachonitis, and Lysanias the tetrarch of Abilene, 06:18 Annas and Caiaphas being the high priests, the word of God 06:23 came unto John the son of Zacharias in the wilderness. 06:26 And he came into all the country about Jordan, preaching 06:29 the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins; 06:32 as it is written in the book of the words of Esaias the prophet, 06:36 saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye 06:41 the way of the Lord, make his paths straight. Every valley 06:45 shall be filled, and every mountain and hill shall be 06:48 brought low; and the crooked shall be made straight, and 06:51 the rough ways shall be made smooth; And all flesh shall see 06:55 the salvation of God. Then said he to the multitude that came 07:00 forth to be baptized of him O generation of vipers, 07:04 who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come? Bring forth 07:09 therefore fruits worthy of repentance, and begin not 07:13 to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: 07:16 for I say unto you, That God is able of these stones to raise up 07:21 children unto Abraham. And now also the axe is laid 07:25 unto the root of the trees: every tree therefore 07:28 which bringeth not forth good fruit 07:30 is hewn down, and cast into the fire. 07:33 And the people asked him, saying, What shall we do then? 07:37 He answereth and saith unto them, He that hath two coats, 07:41 let him impart to him that hath none; and he that hath meat, 07:45 let him do likewise. Then came also publicans to be baptized, 07:50 and said unto him, Master, what shall we do? 07:53 And he said unto them, Exact no more than that 07:57 which is appointed you. And the soldiers likewise demanded of 08:01 him saying, And what shall we do? And he said unto them, 08:04 Do violence to no man, neither accuse any falsely; 08:08 and be content with your wages. And as the people were 08:13 in expectation, and all men mused in their hearts of John, 08:17 whether he were the Christ, or not; John answered, saying unto 08:21 them all, I indeed baptize you with water; but one mightier 08:27 than I cometh, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy 08:31 to unloose: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost 08:35 and with fire: whose fan is in his hand, and he will thoroughly 08:39 purge his floor, and will gather the wheat into his garner; 08:43 but the chaff he will burn with fire unquenchable. 08:46 And many other things in exhortation preached he 08:50 unto the people. But Herod the tetrarch, being reproved by him 08:55 for Herodius, his brother Philip's wife, and for all 09:00 the evils which Herod had done. Added yet this above all, 09:04 that he shut up John in prison. Now when all the people 09:09 were baptized, it came to pass, that Jesus also being baptized, 09:14 and praying, the heaven was opened, and the Holy Ghost 09:17 descended in a bodily shape like a dove upon him, 09:21 and a voice came from heaven, which said, Thou are my beloved 09:25 Son, in thee I am well pleased. And Jesus himself began to be 09:32 about thirty years of age. 09:35 I am now going to continue reading from the book of Luke 09:39 chapter 4. And Jesus being full of the Holy Ghost returned 09:46 from Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, 09:49 being 40 days tempted of the devil. And in those days 09:54 he did eat nothing: and when they were ended, 09:57 he was afterward hungered. And the devil said unto him, 10:01 If thou be the Son of God, command this stone 10:05 that it be made bread. And Jesus answered him saying, 10:09 It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, 10:13 but by every word of God. And the devil, taking him up into a 10:17 high mountain shewed him all the kingdoms of the world 10:20 in a moment of time. And the devil said unto him, 10:23 All this power will I give thee, and the glory of them: 10:26 for that is delivered unto me; and to whomsoever I will 10:30 I give it. If thou therefore wilt worship me, 10:33 all shall be thine. And Jesus answered and said unto him, 10:38 Get thee behind me, Satan: for it is written, 10:41 Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only 10:45 shalt thou serve. And he brought him to Jerusalem, 10:48 and set him on a pinnacle of the temple, and said unto him, 10:51 If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down from hence: 10:55 For it is written, He shall give his angels charge over thee, 10:59 to keep thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, 11:02 lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone. 11:05 And Jesus answering said unto him, It is said, 11:10 Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God, 11:12 And when the devil had ended all the temptation, he departed 11:17 from him for a season. And Jesus returned in the power 11:21 of the Spirit into Galilee: and there went out a fame of him 11:24 through all the region round about. 11:26 And he taught in their synagogue, being glorified of 11:30 all. And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: 11:33 and, as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the 11:37 Sabbath day, and stood up for to read. And there was delivered 11:42 unto him the book of the prophet Esaias. And when he had opened 11:45 the book he found the place where it was written, The Spirit 11:49 of the Lord is upon me because he hath anointed me to preach 11:53 the gospel to the poor: he hath sent me to heal the 11:56 brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, 11:59 and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty 12:02 them that are bruised, To preach the acceptable year of the Lord. 12:07 And he closed the book, and he gave it again to the minister, 12:11 and sat down. And the eyes of all them 12:14 that were in the synagogue were fastened on him. 12:16 And he began to say unto them, This day is this scripture 12:20 fulfilled in your ears. And all bare him witness, and wondered 12:25 at the gracious words which proceeded out of his mouth, 12:28 and they said, Is not this Joseph's son? 12:31 And he said unto them, Ye will surely say unto me this proverb, 12:35 Physician, heal thyself: whatsoever we have heard 12:39 done in Capernaum, do also here in thy country. And he said, 12:43 Verily I say unto you, No prophet is accepted 12:47 in his own country. But I tell you of a truth, 12:50 many widows were in Israel in the days of Elias, 12:53 when the heaven was shut up three years and six months 12:56 when great famine was throughout all the land; 12:59 But unto none of them was Elias sent, save unto Sarepta, 13:04 a city of Sidon, unto a woman that was a widow. 13:07 And many lepers were in Israel in the time of Eliseus 13:10 the prophet, and none of them was cleansed, saving Naaman 13:15 the Syrian. And all they in the synagogue, when they heard 13:19 these things, were filled with wrath, and rose up, 13:22 and thrust him out of the city, and led him unto the brow of 13:25 the hill whereon their city was built, 13:27 that they might cast him down headlong. 13:30 But he passing through the midst of them went his way, 13:34 And came down to Capernaum, a city of Galilee, and taught them 13:38 on the Sabbath days. And they were astonished at his doctrine: 13:42 for his word was with power. And in the synagogue there was a man 13:47 which had a spirit of an unclean devil, and cried out with a loud 13:51 voice saying, Let us alone; what have we to do with thee, 13:54 thou Jesus of Nazareth? art thou come to destroy us? 13:58 I know thee who thou art; the Holy one of God. 14:01 And Jesus rebuked him, saying, Hold thy peace, 14:05 and come out of him. And when the devil had thrown him in the 14:08 midst, he came out of him, and hurt him not. 14:11 And they were all amazed, and spake among themselves, 14:15 saying, What a word is this! for with authority and power 14:19 he commandeth the unclean spirits, and they come out. 14:23 And the fame of him went out into every place of the country 14:27 round about. - Thank you for joining with me today, 14:30 to read the word of God. |
