00:17 Hi, and welcome to His Words are Life.
00:19 I'm Kelly Mowrer, and I'll be reading today 00:22 from the King James version. And today we're we'll get to 00:25 read together the story of incredible sacrifice at Calvary 00:29 that Jesus did for us to reconcile us to Him, 00:33 to bring us close to Him once again. 00:35 Before we begin to read those wonderful words let's go to 00:38 Him in prayer. Dear Jesus, thank you so much for your incredible 00:43 love to us, to me, to all of us, that while we were yet sinners 00:49 You came and you died for us that we might become one 00:53 with you again and one day soon we'll come home and live 00:56 with you forever. Please be with us now as we read these words. 01:00 We thank you for loving us so much. We can't begin to 01:03 understand it; but please be with us now and help us to 01:08 draw closer to you, to become more what you want us to be; 01:12 because of the sacrifice that you made. We love you Jesus. 01:15 Amen. I'm reading today from the book of Mark, chapter 14, 01:21 beginning in verse 17. - And in the evening he cometh 01:26 with the twelve. And as they sat and did eat, Jesus said, 01:29 Verily I say unto you, One of you which eateth with me 01:33 shall betray me. And they began to be sorrowful, and to say unto 01:38 him one by one, Is it I? and another said, Is it I? 01:41 And he answered and said unto them, It is one of the twelve, 01:45 that dippeth with me in the dish The Son of man indeed goeth, 01:49 as it is written of him: but woe to that man by whom the Son of 01:54 man is betrayed! good were it for that man if he had never 01:58 been born. And as they did eat, Jesus took bread, and blessed, 02:03 and brake it, and gave to them, and said, Take, eat: 02:07 this is my body. And he took the cup and when he had given thanks 02:12 he gave it to them: and they all drank of it. 02:14 And he said unto them, This is my blood of the new testament, 02:18 which is shed for many. Verily I say unto you, I will drink 02:22 no more of the fruit of the vine until that day that I drink it 02:26 new in the kingdom of God. And when they had sung an hymn, 02:30 they went out into the mount of Olives and Jesus saith unto them 02:35 All ye shall be offended because of me this night: 02:38 for it is written, I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep 02:42 shall be scattered. But after that I am risen I will go before 02:46 you into Galilee. But Peter said unto him, Although 02:50 all shall be offended, yet will not I. And Jesus saith unto him 02:56 Verily I say unto thee, That this day, even this night, 02:59 before the cock crow twice, thou shalt deny me thrice. 03:04 But he spake the more vehemently If I should die with thee I will 03:08 deny thee in any wise. Likewise also said they all. 03:13 And they came to a place which was named Gethsemane: 03:16 and he saith to his disciples, Sit ye here, while I shall pray. 03:21 And he taketh with him Peter and James and John, and began to be 03:26 sore amazed, and to be very heavy; And saith unto them, 03:30 My soul is exceeding sorrowful unto death: tarry ye here, 03:35 and watch. And he went forward a little, and fell on the ground 03:38 and prayed that, if it were possible, the hour might pass 03:42 from him. And he said, Abba, Father, all things are possible 03:47 unto thee; take away this cup from me: nevertheless not what 03:53 I will, but what thou wilt. And he cometh, and findeth them 03:57 sleeping, and saith unto Peter, Simon, sleepest thou? 04:01 couldest not thou watch one hour? Watch ye an pray, 04:05 lest ye enter into temptation. The spirit truly is ready, 04:09 but the flesh is weak. And again he went away, and prayed, 04:14 and spake the same words. And when he returned, he found them 04:18 asleep again, for their eyes were heavy, neither wist they 04:22 what to answer him. And he cometh the third time, 04:25 and saith unto them, Sleep on now, and take your rest: 04:29 it is enough, the hour is come; behold, the Son of man 04:33 is betrayed into the hands of sinners. Rise up, let us go; 04:38 lo, he that betrayeth me is at hand. And immediately, 04:44 while he yet spake, cometh Judas, one of the twelve, 04:46 and with him a great multitude with swords and staves, 04:50 from the chief priests and the scribes and the elders. 04:52 And he that betrayed him had given them a token, saying, 04:56 Whomsoever I shall kiss, that same is he; take him, and lead 05:00 him away safely. And as soon as he was come, he goeth 05:05 straightway to him, and saith, Mater, master; and kissed him. 05:09 And they laid their hands on him and took him. And one of them 05:13 that stood by drew a sword, and smote a servant of 05:16 the high priest, and cut off his ear. And Jesus answered and 05:20 said unto them, Are ye come out, as against a thief, with swords 05:25 and with staves to take me? I was daily with you 05:28 in the temple teaching, and ye took me not: but the scriptures 05:33 must be fulfilled. And they all forsook him, and fled. 05:38 And there followed him a certain young man, having a linen cloth 05:42 cast about his naked body; and the young men laid hold on him: 05:45 And he left the linen cloth, and fled from them naked. 05:49 And they led Jesus away to the high priest: and with him were 05:53 assembled all the chief priests and the elders and the scribes. 05:57 And Peter followed him afar off, even into the palace of the high 06:01 priest: and he sat with the servants, and warmed himself 06:05 at the fire. And the chief priests and all the council 06:08 sought for witness against Jesus to put him to death; 06:11 and found none. For many bare false witness against him, 06:16 but their witness agreed not together. And there arose 06:20 certain and bare false witness against him, saying, We heard 06:23 him say, I will destroy this temple that is made with hands, 06:26 and within three days I will build another made without 06:29 hands. But neither so did their witness agree together. 06:33 And the high priest stood up in the midst, and asked Jesus, 06:37 saying, Answerest thou nothing? what is it which these witness 06:41 against thee? But he held his peace, and answered nothing. 06:45 Again the high priest asked him, and said unto him, 06:48 Art thou the Christ, the Son of the Blessed? And Jesus said, 06:53 I am: and ye shall see the Son of man sitting on the 06:58 right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven. 07:01 Then the high priest rent his clothes, and saith, What need we 07:07 any further witnesses? Ye have heard the blasphemy: what think 07:11 ye? And they all condemned him to be guilty of death. 07:15 And some began to spit on him, and to cover his face, and to 07:19 buffet him, and to say unto him Prophesy: and the servants 07:22 did strike him with the palms of their hands. And as Peter was 07:27 beneath in the palace, there cometh one of the maids of 07:30 of the high priest: And when she saw Peter warming himself, 07:34 she looked upon him and said, And thou also wast with Jesus 07:38 of Nazareth. But he denied, saying, I know not, 07:42 neither understand I what thou sayest. And he went out into 07:46 the porch; and the cock crew. And a maid saw him again, 07:51 and began to say to them that stood by, This is one of them. 07:54 And he denied it again. And a little after, they that stood by 07:58 said again to Peter, Surely thou art one of them: 08:01 for thou art a Galilean, and thy speech agreeth thereto. 08:05 But he began to curse and to swear, saying, I know not 08:10 this man of whom ye speak. And the second time 08:13 the cock crew. And Peter called to mind the word that Jesus 08:18 said unto him, Before the cock crow twice, thou shalt deny me 08:22 thrice. And when he thought thereon, he wept. 08:26 I'm reading from Mark, chapter 15. And straitway in the morning 08:32 the chief priests held a consultation with the elders 08:34 and scribes and the whole council, and bound Jesus, 08:37 and carried him away, and delivered him to Pilate. 08:40 And pilate asked him, Art thou the King of the Jews? 08:43 And he answering said unto him, Thou sayest it. And the chief 08:48 priests accused him of many things: but he answered nothing. 08:52 And Pilate asked him again, saying, Answerest thou nothing? 08:56 behold how many things they witness against thee. 09:00 But Jesus yet answered nothing; so that Pilate marveled. 09:05 Now at that feast he released unto them one prisoner, 09:09 whomsoever they desired. And there was one named Barabbas, 09:13 which lay bound with them that had made insurrection with him, 09:16 who had committed murder in the insurrection. And the multitude 09:20 crying aloud began to desire him to do as he had ever done unto 09:25 them. But Pilate answered them, saying, Will ye that I release 09:30 unto you the King of the Jews? For he knew that the chief 09:33 priests had delivered him for envy. But the chief priests 09:37 moved the people, that he should rather release Barabbas 09:41 unto them. And Pilate answered and said again unto them, 09:44 What will y then that I shall do unto him whom ye call the King 09:47 of the Jews? And they cried out again, Crucify him. 09:51 Then Pilate said unto them, Why, what evil hath he done? 09:56 And they cried out the more exceedingly, Crucify him. 09:59 And so Pilate, willing to content the people, 10:03 released Barabbas unto them, and delivered Jesus, 10:07 when he had scourged him, to be crucified. And the soldiers 10:11 led him away into the hall, called Praetorium; 10:15 and they call together the whole band. And they clothed him with 10:18 purple, and platted a crown of thorns, and put it about 10:21 his head and began to salute him, Hail, King of the Jews! 10:25 And they smote him on the head with a reed, and did spit 10:28 upon him, and bowing their knees worshipped him. 10:31 And when they had mocked him, they took off the purple 10:33 from him and put his own clothes on him, and led him out 10:37 to crucify him. And they compel one Simon a Cyrenian, 10:42 who passed by, coming out of the country, the father of Alexander 10:46 and Rufus, to bear his cross. And they bring him unto the 10:49 place Golgotha which is, being interpreted The place of a skull 10:54 and they gave him to drink wine mingled with myrrh: 10:57 but he received it not. And when they had crucified him, 11:01 they parted his garments, casting lots upon them, 11:04 what every man should take. And it was the third hour, 11:07 and they crucified him. And the superscription of his accusation 11:11 was written over, THE KING OF THE JEWS. 11:14 And with him they crucify two thieves; the one on his right 11:18 hand and the other on his left. And the scripture was 11:21 fulfilled, which saith, And he was numbered with the 11:24 transgressors. And they that passed by railed on him, 11:29 wagging their heads, and saying, Ah, thou that destroyest 11:32 the temple and buildest it in three days, Save thyself, 11:35 and come down from the cross. Likewise also the chief priests 11:40 mocking said among themselves with the scribes, 11:42 He saved others; himself he cannot save. Let Christ the King 11:47 of Israel descend now from the cross, that we may see 11:50 and believe. And they that were crucified with him reviled him. 11:54 And when the sixth hour was come, there was darkness 11:57 over the whole land until the ninth hour. And at the 9th hour 12:02 Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eloi, Eloi, 12:06 lama sabachthani? which is, being interpreted, 12:10 My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? 12:14 And some of them that stood by, when they heard it, said, Behold 12:18 he calleth Elias. And one ran and filled a sponge full of 12:22 vinegar, and put it on a reed, and gave him to drink, saying, 12:25 Let alone; let us see whether Elias will come to take him down 12:28 and Jesus cried with a loud voice, and gave up the ghost. 12:33 And the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top 12:38 to the bottom. And when the centurion, which stood over 12:42 against him, saw that he so cried out and gave up the ghost, 12:45 he said, Truly this man was the Son of God. 12:50 There were also women looking on afar off: among whom was 12:55 Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James the less 12:58 and of Joses, and Salome; who also, when he was in Galilee, 13:02 followed him, and ministered unto him; and many other women 13:06 which came up with him unto Jerusalem. And now when the 13:10 even was come, because it was the preparation, that is, 13:13 the day before the Sabbath, Joseph of Arimathea, 13:17 an honorable counselor, which also waited for the kingdom 13:21 of God, came, and went in boldly unto Pilate, and craved 13:25 the body of Jesus. And Pilate marveled if he were already 13:29 dead: and calling unto him the centurion, he asked him whether 13:33 he had been any while dead. And when he knew it of the 13:36 centurion, he gave the body to Joseph. And he bought fine linen 13:41 and took him down, and wrapped him in the linen, and laid him 13:45 in a sepulcher which was hewn out of a rock and rolled a stone 13:48 unto the door of the sepulcher. And Mary Magdalene and Mary 13:51 the mother of Joses beheld where he was laid. 13:55 I'm reading in the book of Mark, chapter sixteen. 13:59 And when the Sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the 14:03 mother of James, and Salome, had bought sweet spices, 14:07 that they might come and anoint him. And very early 14:11 in the morning the first day of the week, they came unto the 14:14 sepulcher at the rising of the sun. And they said among 14:18 themselves, Who shall roll us away the stone from the door 14:21 of the sepulcher? And when they looked, they saw that the stone 14:25 was rolled away: for it was very great. 14:28 Thank you for joining me today for the reading of His word. 14:32 Bye, bye. |
