00:17 Hi, I'm Kelly Mowrer and thank you for joining me today
00:20 for His Words are Life. I'll be reading from the King James
00:24 version. And the last time we were starting the story of a
00:27 man named Jairus, who came to Jesus and said, My daughter is
00:30 about to die. Will you please come and heal her?
00:32 And as we read today, as the answer to that request,
00:36 it is one of my favorite stories of faith and the answer to faith
00:39 in the bible. But before we read his word,
00:42 let's go to Him in prayer. Dear heavenly Father,
00:45 thank you so much that for all of us who have been on the point
00:50 of death because of our sins, you have come and you healed us
00:54 by your presence and you've not only come to give us eternal
00:57 life; but to give us an abundant life.
00:59 here and now. Thank you for the life that we will find reading
01:03 your word today. Please bless us as we read it, and be with us.
01:06 We love you. Amen. Again I'm reading
01:11 from the King James version, the book of Mark, chapter five,
01:14 beginning with verse 24. And Jesus went with him;
01:19 and much people followed him, and thronged him. And a certain
01:23 woman, which had an issue of blood twelve years,
01:26 and had suffered many things of many physicians, and had spent
01:30 all that she had, and was nothing bettered,
01:33 but rather grew worse, When she had heard of Jesus,
01:37 came in the press behind, and touched his garment.
01:41 For she said, If I may touch but his clothes, I shall be whole.
01:46 And straightway the fountain of her blood was dried up;
01:50 and she felt in her body that she was healed of that plague.
01:54 And Jesus, immediately knowing in himself that virtue had gone
01:59 out of him, turned him about in the press, and said,
02:02 Who touched my clothes? And his disciples said unto him,
02:06 Thou seest the multitude thronging thee,
02:09 and sayest thou, Who touched me? And he looked round about
02:13 to see her that had done this thing. But the woman fearing
02:17 and trembling, knowing what was done in her, came and fell
02:22 down before him, and told him all the truth.
02:25 And he said unto her, Daughter, thy faith hath made thee whole;
02:30 go in peace, and be whole of thy plague. While he yet spake,
02:35 there came from the ruler of the synagogue's house
02:37 certain which said, Thy daughter is dead: why troublest thou the
02:43 Master any further? As soon as Jesus heard the word that was
02:46 spoken, he saith unto the ruler of the synagogue, Be not afraid,
02:50 only believe. And he suffered no man to follow him, save Peter,
02:55 and James, and John the brother of James. And he cometh to the
02:59 house of the ruler of the synagogue, and seeth the
03:02 tumult, and them that wept and wailed greatly.
03:05 And when he was come in, he saith unto them, Why make ye
03:09 this ado, and weep? the damsel is not dead, but sleepeth. And
03:15 they laughed him to scorn. But when he had put them all out,
03:19 he taketh the father and the mother of the damsel,
03:22 and them that were with him, and entereth in
03:25 where the damsel was lying. And he took the damsel by the hand,
03:28 and said unto her, Talitha cumi: which is, being interpreted,
03:34 Damsel, I say unto thee, arise. And straightway the damsel
03:38 arose, and walked; for she was of the age of twelve years.
03:41 And they were astonished with a great astonishment.
03:45 And he charged them straitly that no man should know it;
03:49 and commanded that something should be given her to eat.
03:53 I'm reading from the book of Mark, chapter six.
03:57 And he went out from thence, and came into his own country;
04:01 and his disciples followed him. And when the Sabbath day
04:04 was come, he began to teach in the synagogue: and many hearing
04:08 him were astonished, saying, >From whence hath this man
04:12 these things? and what wisdom is this which is given unto him,
04:15 that even such mighty works are wrought by his hands?
04:19 Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of
04:22 James and Joses, and of Juda and Simon? and are not his
04:26 sisters here with us? And They were offended at him.
04:30 But Jesus said unto them, A prophet is not without honor
04:34 but in his own country, and among his own kin.
04:36 and in his own house. And he could there do no mighty work,
04:41 save that he laid his hands upon a few sick folk and healed them.
04:45 And he marvelled because of their unbelief. And he went
04:50 round about the villages, teaching. And he called
04:53 unto him the twelve and began to send them forth by 2 and 2.
04:58 and gave them power over unclean spirits; And commanded them
05:02 that they should take nothing for their journey, save a staff
05:05 only; no scrip, no bread, no money in their purse:
05:09 but be shod with sandals and not put on two coats,
05:12 And he said unto them, In what place soever ye enter into an
05:17 house, there abide till ye depart from that place.
05:20 And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear you,
05:24 when ye depart thence, shake off the dust under your feet
05:28 for a testimony against them. Verily I say unto you,
05:31 It shall be more tolerable for Sodom and Gomorrha in the
05:35 day of judgement, than for that city. And they went out,
05:38 and preached that men should repent. And they cast out many
05:43 devils, and anointed with oil many that were sick,
05:46 and healed them. And king Herod heard of him; - for his name was
05:50 spread abroad: and he said, That John the Baptist was
05:53 risen from the dead, and therefore mighty works
05:56 do shew themselves in him. Others said, That it is Elias.
06:01 And others said, That it is a prophet, or as one of the
06:04 prophets. But when Herod heard thereof he said, It is John whom
06:09 I beheaded: he is risen from the dead. For Herod himself had sent
06:13 forth and laid hold upon John, and bound him in prison for
06:17 Herodias' sake, his brother Philip's wife: for he had
06:21 married her. For John had said unto Herod, It is not lawful for
06:25 thee to have thy brother's wife. Therefore Herodias had a quarrel
06:30 against him, and would have killed him; but she could not.
06:32 For Herod feared John, knowing that he was a just man and an
06:37 holy, and observed him; and when he heard him, he did many things
06:41 and heard him gladly. And when a convenient day was come,
06:45 that Herod on his birthday made a supper to his lords,
06:49 high captains, and chief estates of Galilee;
06:52 and when the daughter of said Herodias came in and danced
06:56 and pleased Herod and them that sat with him,
07:00 the king said unto the damsel, Ask of me whatsoever thou wilt,
07:03 and I will give it thee, and he sware unto her, Whatever
07:07 you will ask me, will give it thee, unto half of my kingdom.
07:11 And she went forth, and said unto her mother,
07:14 What shall I ask? And she said, The head of John the Baptist.
07:19 And she came in straightway with haste unto the king, and asked,
07:24 saying, I will that thou give me by and by in a charger, the head
07:30 of John the Baptist. And the king was exceeding sorry;
07:34 yet for his oath's sake, and for their sakes which sat with him,
07:38 he would not reject her. And immediately the king sent an
07:42 executioner, and commanded his head to be brought: and he went
07:47 and beheaded him in the prison, and brought his head
07:51 in a charger, and gave it to the damsel: and the damsel gave it
07:54 to her mother. And when his disciples heard of it,
07:57 they came and took up his corpse, and laid it in a tomb.
08:01 And the apostles gathered themselves together unto Jesus,
08:06 and told him all things, both what they had done,
08:09 and what they had taught. And he said unto them,
08:12 Come ye yourselves apart into a desert place and rest a while:
08:17 for there were many coming and going, and they had no leisure
08:21 so much as to eat. And they departed into a desert place
08:25 by a ship privately. And the people saw them departing,
08:29 and many knew him, and ran afoot thither out of all cities,
08:33 and out went them, and came together unto him. And Jesus,
08:37 when he came out, saw much people, and was moved
08:40 with compassion toward them, because they were as sheep
08:43 not having a shepherd: and he began to teach them many things.
08:48 And when the day was now far spent, his disciples came unto
08:52 him and said, This is a desert place, and now the time is far
08:56 passed: Send them away, that they may go into the country
09:00 round about and into the villages, and buy themselves
09:03 bread: for they have nothing to eat. He answered and said
09:07 unto them, Give ye them to eat. And they say unto him, Shall we
09:12 go and buy 200 pennyworth of bread, and give them to eat?
09:15 He saith unto them, How many loaves have ye? go and see.
09:20 And when they knew, they say, Five, and two fishes.
09:24 and he commanded them to make all sit down by companies upon
09:28 the green grass. And they sat down in ranks, by hundreds,
09:32 and by fifties. And when he had taken the five loaves
09:35 and the two fishes, he looked up to heaven, and blessed and brake
09:39 the loaves, and gave them to his disciples to set before them;
09:42 and the two fishes divided he among them all. And they did
09:46 all eat, and were filled. And they took up twelve baskets
09:50 full of the fragments, and of the fishes. And they that did
09:54 eat of the loaves were about five thousand men.
09:57 And straightway he constrained his disciples to get into the
10:01 ship and go to the other side before unto Bethsaida,
10:05 while he sent away the people. And when he had sent them away,
10:09 he departed into a mountain to pray. And when even was come,
10:14 the ship was in the midst of the sea, and he alone on the land.
10:18 And he saw them toiling in rowing; for the wind
10:23 was contrary unto them: and about the fourth watch
10:26 of the night he cometh unto them, walking upon the sea,
10:30 and would have passed by them. But when they saw him walking
10:34 upon the sea, they supposed it had been a spirit and cried out:
10:37 for they all saw him, and were troubled. And immediately he
10:40 talked with them, and saith unto unto them, Be of good cheer:
10:43 it is I; be not afraid. And he went up unto them into the ship;
10:48 and the wind ceased: and they were sore amazed in themselves
10:53 beyond measure, and wondered. For they considered not
10:57 the miracle of the loaves: for their heart was hardened.
11:00 And when they had passed over, they came into the land
11:04 of Gennesaret, and drew to the shore. And when they were come
11:08 out of the ship, straightway they knew him, and ran
11:11 through that whole region round about, and began to carry about
11:14 in beds those that were sick, where they heard he was.
11:17 And whithersoever he entered, into villages, or cities,
11:21 or country, they laid the sick in the streets, and besought
11:25 him that they might touch if it were but the border
11:28 of his garment: and as many as touched him were made whole.
11:31 I'm reading in the book of Mark, and now on chapter seven.
11:35 Then came together unto him the Pharisees, and certain of
11:40 the scribes, which came from Jerusalem. And when they saw
11:44 some of his disciples eat bread with defiled, that is to say
11:47 with unwashen hands, they found fault. For the Pharisees,
11:52 and all the Jews, except they that wash their hands oft,
11:55 eat not, holding the tradition of the elders. And when they
12:00 come from the market, except they wash, they eat not.
12:03 And many other things there be, which they have received to hold
12:07 as the washing of cups and pots, brasen vessels, and of tables.
12:11 Then the Pharisees and scribes asked him, Why walk not thy
12:16 disciples according to the tradition of the elders,
12:18 but eat bread with unwashen hands? He answered and said
12:23 unto them, Well hath Esaias prophesied of you hypocrites,
12:27 as it is written, This people honoureth me with their lips,
12:31 but their heart is far from me. Howbeit in vain do they worship
12:36 me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.
12:40 For laying aside the commandment of God, ye hold the tradition of
12:43 men, as the washing of pots and cups: and many other such like
12:48 things ye do. And he said unto them, Full well ye reject the
12:52 commandment of God, that ye may keep your own tradition.
12:55 For Moses said, Honor thy father and thy mother; and Whoso
12:58 curseth father or mother let him die the death. But ye say,
13:02 If a man shall say to his father or mother, It is Corban, that is
13:07 to say, a gift, by whatsoever thou mightest be profited by me;
13:11 he shall be free. And ye suffer him no more to do aught for
13:15 his father or his mother; Making the word of God
13:17 of none effect through your tradition, which ye have
13:20 delivered: and many such like things do ye.
13:23 And when he had called all the people unto him,
13:26 he said unto them, Hearken unto me every one of you,
13:29 and understand: There is nothing from without a man,
13:33 that entering into him can defile him: but the things
13:37 which come out of him, those are they that defile the man.
13:41 If any man have ears to hear, let him hear.
13:45 And when he was entered into the house from the people,
13:48 his disciples asked him concerning the parable.
13:51 And he saith unto them, Are ye so without understanding also?
13:55 Do ye not perceive, that whatsoever thing from without
13:58 entereth into the man, it cannot defile him; Because it entereth
14:02 not into his heart, but into the belly, and goeth out
14:05 into the draught, purging all meats? And he said,
14:08 That which cometh out of the man, that defileth the man.
14:12 For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil
14:15 thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders,
14:18 thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit,
14:21 lasciviousness, and evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness:
14:25 All these evil things come from within, and defile the man.
14:30 Thank you for joining with me today, for His words are life.
