00:16 Hi, and welcome to His Words are Life. I'm Kelly Mowrer,
00:20 and I'll be reading today from the King James version
00:23 of the Bible; but before we go to the Bible, let us go to the
00:25 Author of the bible. Let's ask our heavenly Father
00:28 to be with us. Dear Heavenly Father, thank you so much
00:32 for the promise of your Holy Spirit to guide us into truth
00:36 to give us understanding of what we are about to read.
00:39 Please come and be with us in these next few minutes
00:42 as we read about your incredible love for us
00:45 and the sacrifice that You and your Son made so that we can
00:48 one day come and live with you forever. We thank you for that
00:51 We love you. We ask all of these things in the name of Jesus.
00:55 Amen. When last we were together, we were reading
01:00 Matthew's account of the crucifixion. We'll continue on
01:04 now in Matthew, chapter 27, picking up with verse 55.
01:08 And many women were there beholding afar off,
01:13 which followed Jesus from Galilee, ministering unto him:
01:17 among which was Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James and
01:21 Joses, and the mother of Zebedee's children.
01:24 When the even was come, there came a rich man of Arimathea,
01:28 named Joseph, who also himself was Jesus' disciple:
01:32 He went to Pilate, and begged the body of Jesus. Then Pilate
01:37 commanded the body to be delivered. And when Joseph
01:40 had taken the body, he wrapped it in a clean linen cloth,
01:43 And laid it in his own new tomb, which he had hewn out in the
01:47 rock: and he rolled a great stone to the door
01:50 of the sepulcher, and departed. And there was Mary Magdalene,
01:53 and the other Mary, sitting over against the sepulcher.
01:56 Now the next day, that followed the day of the preparation,
02:00 the chief priests and Pharisees came together unto Pilate,
02:03 saying, Sir, we remember that that deceiver said, while he was
02:07 yet alive, After three days I will rise again. Command
02:11 therefore that the sepulcher be made sure until the third day,
02:14 lest his disciples come by night and steal him away,
02:18 and say unto the people, He is risen from the dead:
02:20 so the last error shall be worse than the first. Pilate said unto
02:25 them, Ye have a watch: go your way, make it as sure as ye can.
02:30 So they went and made the sepulcher sure,
02:34 sealing the stone, and setting a watch. - I'm, reading from
02:39 Matthew, chapter 28. - In the end of the Sabbath, as it began
02:44 to dawn toward the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene
02:47 and the other Mary to see the sepulcher. And, behold,
02:51 there was a great earthquake: for the angel of the Lord
02:55 descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone
02:58 from the door, and sat upon it. His countenance was like
03:02 lightening, and his raiment white as snow:
03:05 And for fear of him the keepers did shake, and became as dead
03:09 men. And the angel answered and said unto the women, Fear not ye
03:14 for I know that ye seek Jesus, which was crucified.
03:17 He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place
03:24 where the Lord lay. And go quickly, and tell his disciples
03:27 that he is risen from the dead; and behold, he goeth before you
03:30 into Galilee; there shall ye see him: lo I have told you.
03:34 And they departed quickly from the sepulcher with fear
03:38 and great joy; and did run to bring his disciples word.
03:42 And as they went to tell his disciples, behold, Jesus met
03:47 them, saying, All hail. And they came and held him by
03:51 the feet, and worshipped him. Then said Jesus unto them,
03:55 Be not afraid: go tell my brethren that they go
03:59 into Galilee, and there shall they see me.
04:02 Now when they were going, behold some of the watch came into city
04:07 and shewed unto the chief priests all the things that
04:11 were done. And when they were assembled with the elders, and
04:15 had taken counsel, they gave large money unto the soldiers,
04:18 Saying, Say ye, His disciples came by night, and stole him
04:23 away while we slept. And if this come to the governor's ears
04:27 we will persuade him, and secure you. So they took
04:31 the money, and did as they were taught: and this saying
04:34 is commonly reported among the Jews until this day.
04:37 Then the eleven disciples went away into Galilee,
04:40 into a mountain where Jesus had appointed them.
04:43 And when they saw him, they worshipped him:
04:47 But some doubted. And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying,
04:51 All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.
04:56 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them
05:01 in the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost
05:05 teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have
05:09 commanded you: and, lo I am with you alway,
05:12 even unto the end of the world. Amen. - We are now beginning
05:20 in the book of Mark, reading from the King James version,
05:23 chapter one. - The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ,
05:28 the Son of God; As it is written in the prophets, Behold, I send
05:34 my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way
05:37 before thee. The voice of one crying in the wilderness,
05:40 prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.
05:44 John did baptize in the wilderness, and preach
05:47 the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins.
05:50 And there went out unto him all the land of Judea,
05:54 and they of Jerusalem, and were all baptized of him in the river
05:58 of Jordan, confessing their sins. And John was clothed
06:03 with camel's hair, and with a girdle of a skin about his loins
06:07 and he did eat locusts and wild honey; and preached, saying,
06:12 There cometh one mightier than I after me, the latchet of whose
06:16 shoes I am not worthy to stoop down and unloose.
06:20 I indeed have baptized you with water: but he shall baptize you
06:25 with the Holy Ghost. And it came to pass in those days,
06:29 that Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee and was baptized of John
06:33 in Jordan. And straightway coming up out of the water,
06:38 he saw the heavens opened, and the Spirit like a dove
06:41 descending upon him: And there came a voice from heaven, saying
06:45 Thou art my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
06:48 And immediately the Spirit driveth him into the wilderness.
06:52 And he was there in the wilderness forty days,
06:55 tempted of Satan; and was with the wild beasts; and the angels
07:01 ministered unto him. Now after that John was put in prison,
07:05 Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel
07:08 of the kingdom of God. And saying, The time is fulfilled,
07:11 and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe
07:15 the gospel. Now as he walked by the sea of Galilee, he saw Simon
07:19 and Andrew his brother casting a net into the sea:
07:23 for they were fishers. And Jesus said unto them, Come ye after me
07:27 and I will make you to become fishers of men.
07:30 And straightway they forsook their nets, and followed him.
07:35 And when he had gone a little farther thence, he saw James
07:38 the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, who also were in the
07:42 ship mending their nets. And straightway he called them:
07:46 And they left their father Zebedee in the ship
07:49 with the hired servants, and went after him.
07:51 And they went into Capernaum; and straightway on the Sabbath
07:55 day he entered into the synagogue and taught.
07:58 And they were astonished at his doctrine: for he taught them
08:02 as one that had authority, and not as the scribes.
08:06 And there was in their synagogue a man with an unclean spirit;
08:11 and he cried out, Saying, Let us alone; what have we to do
08:15 with thee, thou Jesus of Nazareth? art thou come
08:17 to destroy us? I know thee who thou art, the Holy One
08:21 of God. And Jesus rebuked him, saying, Hold thy peace,
08:25 and come out of him. And when the unclean spirit had torn him,
08:30 and cried with a loud voice, he came out of him.
08:32 And they were all amazed insomuch that they questioned
08:36 among themselves, saying, What thing is this? what new doctrine
08:40 is this? for with authority commandeth he even the
08:44 unclean spirits, and they do obey him. And immediately
08:47 his fame spread abroad throughout all the region
08:50 around about Galilee. And forthwith, when they were
08:54 come out of the synagogue, they entered into the house of Simon
08:57 and Andrew, with James and John. But Simon's wife's mother
09:02 lay sick of a fever, and anon they tell him of her.
09:06 And he came and took her by the hand, and lifted her up;
09:09 and immediately the fever left her and she ministered unto them
09:13 And at even, when the sun did set, they brought unto him all
09:18 that were diseased, and them that were possessed with devils.
09:22 And all the city was gathered together at the door.
09:25 And he healed many that were sick of divers diseases, and
09:28 cast out many devils; and suffered not the devils to
09:32 speak, because they knew him. And in the morning, rising up
09:37 a great while before day, he went out, and departed
09:41 into a solitary place, and there prayed.
09:44 And Simon and they that were with him followed after him.
09:48 And when they had found him, they said unto him, All men
09:52 seek for thee. And he said unto them, Let us go into the next
09:57 town, that I may preach there also: for therefore came I forth
10:01 And he preached in their synagogues throughout
10:05 all Galilee, and cast out devils. And there came
10:10 a leper to him, beseeching him, and kneeling down to him,
10:13 and saying unto him, If thou wilt, thou canst make me clean.
10:17 And Jesus, moved with compassion put forth his hand, and touched
10:22 him, and saith unto him, I will; be thou clean. And as soon
10:27 as he had spoken, immediately the leprosy departed from him,
10:31 and he was cleansed. And he straitly charged him,
10:35 and forthwith sent him away; And saith unto him,
10:38 See thou say nothing to any man; but go thy way, shew thyself
10:43 to the priest, and offer for thy cleansing those things
10:46 which Moses commanded, for a testimony unto them.
10:49 But he went out, and began to publish it much, and to blaze
10:53 abroad the matter, insomuch that Jesus could no more openly enter
10:58 into the city, but was without in the desert places; and they
11:02 came to him from every quarter. - The book of Mark, chapter 2. -
11:07 And again he entered into Capernaum after some days;
11:12 and it was noised that he was in the house. And straightway many
11:16 were gathered together, insomuch that there was no room
11:19 to receive them, no, not so much as about the door:
11:22 and he preached the word unto them. And they come unto him,
11:27 bringing one sick of the palsy, which was borne of four.
11:31 And when they could not come nigh unto him for the press,
11:34 they uncovered the roof where he was: and when they had broken
11:39 it up, they let down the bed wherein the sick of the palsy
11:42 lay. When Jesus saw their faith, he said unto the sick
11:47 of the palsy, Son, thy sins be forgiven thee.
11:50 But there were certain of the scribes sitting there,
11:53 and reasoning in their hearts, Why doth this man thus speak
11:58 blasphemies? who can forgive sins but God only?
12:02 And immediately when Jesus perceived in his spirit
12:06 that they so reasoned within themselves, he said unto them,
12:09 Why reason ye these things in your hearts? Whether is it
12:14 easier to say to the sick of the palsy, Thy sins be forgiven thee
12:18 or to say, Arise, and take up thy bed and walk?
12:23 But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth
12:28 to forgive sins, he saith to the sick of the palsy, I say
12:32 unto thee, Arise, and take up thy bed, and go thy way
12:36 into thine house. And immediately he arose,
12:40 took up the bed, and went forth before them all; insomuch that
12:44 they were all amazed, and glorified God, saying,
12:47 We never saw it on this fashion. And he went forth again by the
12:52 sea side; and all the multitude resorted unto him,
12:55 and he taught them. And as he passed by, he saw Levi
12:58 the son of Alpheus sitting at the receipt of custom,
13:01 and said unto him, Follow me. And he arose and followed him.
13:06 And it came to pass, that, as Jesus sat at meat in his house,
13:11 many publicans and sinners sat also together with Jesus
13:15 and his disciples: for there were many, and they followed
13:18 him. And when the scribes and Pharisees saw him eat
13:22 with publicans and sinners, they said unto his disciples,
13:25 How is it that he eateth and drinketh with publicans and
13:28 sinners? When Jesus heard it, he saith unto them,
13:32 They that are whole have no need of the physician,
13:36 but they that are sick: I came not to call the righteous,
13:40 but sinners to repentance. And the disciples of John
13:44 and of the Pharisees used to fast: and they come and say
13:48 unto him, Why do the disciples of John and of the Pharisees
13:51 fast, but thy disciples fast not? And Jesus said unto them,
13:56 Can the children of the bride-chamber fast,
13:59 while the bridegroom is with them? as long as they have the
14:03 bridegroom with them, they cannot fast. But the days
14:06 will come when the bridegroom shall be taken away from them,
14:08 and then shall they fast in those days.
14:11 No man also seweth a piece of new cloth on an old garment:
14:16 else the new piece that filled it up taketh away from the old,
14:19 and the rent is made worse. And no man putteth new wine
14:23 into old bottles: else the new wine doth burst the bottles,
14:27 and the wine is spilled, and the bottles will be marred:
14:29 but new wine must be put into new bottles. - God bless you.
