00:16 Hi, and welcome to HIS WORDS ARE LIFE.
00:19 I'm Kelly Mowrer and I'll be reading today 00:21 from the King James Version of the Bible. 00:24 You know, David writes that the Bible is given to us as a lamp 00:28 to our feet and light to our path. And before we go 00:31 to the Word and receive the light that God has for us today, 00:34 Let's go to Him in prayer. Dear Heavenly Father, thank you 00:38 so much that you have not left us to wander along through the 00:42 darkness of this life and try to figure out the way that we 00:46 should go. But you have provided for us a way 00:48 and You are the Truth and the Life and the Way that we need 00:52 to be in. Give us wisdom now as we read Your word. 00:55 Send Your Holy Spirit to guide our hearts to understanding. 00:59 We pray this in the name of Jesus. We love you. Amen. 01:03 I'm reading today from the book of Matthew, chapter 14. 01:07 I'm in the King James Version and we left off reading 01:11 the story of John and Herod putting him to death. 01:14 I'll begin with verse 10. - speaking of Herod - 01:18 And he sent, and beheaded John 01:21 in the prison. And his head was brought in a charger, 01:25 and given to the damsel: and she brought it to her mother. 01:27 And his disciples came, and took up the body, and buried it, 01:31 and went and told Jesus. When Jesus heard of it he departed 01:35 thence by ship into a desert place apart: and when the people 01:39 had heard thereof, they followed him on foot out of the cities. 01:43 And Jesus went forth, and saw a great multitude, and was moved 01:48 with compassion toward them, and he healed their sick. 01:52 And when it was evening, his disciples came to him, saying, 01:55 This is a desert place and the time is now past; 01:59 Send the multitude, away, that they may go into the villages, 02:02 and buy themselves victuals. But Jesus said unto them, 02:07 They need not depart; give ye them to eat. And they say unto 02:12 him, We have here but five loaves, and two fishes. 02:16 He said, Bring them hither to me. And he commanded the 02:21 multitude to sit down on the grass, and took the five loaves, 02:24 and the two fishes, and looking up to heaven, he blessed and 02:28 brake, and gave the loaves to his disciples, 02:31 and the disciples to the multitude. And they did all eat, 02:36 and were filled: and they took up of the fragments 02:39 that remained twelve baskets full. And they that had eaten 02:44 were about 5,000 men, beside women and children. 02:47 And straightway Jesus constrained his disciples 02:50 to get into a ship, and to go before him unto the other side, 02:54 while he sent the multitudes away. And when he had sent 02:58 the multitudes away, he went up into a mountain apart to pray: 03:02 and when the evening was come, he was there alone. But the ship 03:07 was now in the midst of the sea, tossed with waves: for the wind 03:10 was contrary. And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went 03:15 unto them, walking on the sea. And when the disciples saw him 03:20 walking on the sea, they were troubled saying, It is a spirit; 03:23 and they cried out for fear. But straightway Jesus spake unto 03:28 them saying, Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid. 03:32 And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come 03:37 unto thee on the water. And he said, Come. And when Peter was 03:42 come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to 03:46 Jesus. But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; 03:50 and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me. 03:55 And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand and caught him, 03:59 and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore 04:03 didst thou doubt? And when they were come into the ship, 04:07 the wind ceased. Then they that were in the ship came and 04:11 worshipped him, saying, Of a truth thou art the Son of God. 04:15 And when they were gone over, they came into the land 04:18 of Gennesaret. And when the men of that place had knowledge of 04:22 him they sent out into all that country round about, and brought 04:26 unto him all that were diseased; And besought him that they might 04:31 only touch the hem of his garment: and as many as 04:34 touched were made perfectly whole. - I'm reading in the book 04:38 of Matthew, chapter 15. - Then came to Jesus scribes 04:43 and Pharisees, which were of Jerusalem, saying, Why do thy 04:47 disciples transgress the tradition of the elders? 04:50 for they wash not their hands when they eat bread. 04:53 But he answered and said unto them, Why do ye also transgress 04:59 the commandment of God by your tradition? For God commanded, 05:03 saying, Honour thy father and mother: and, He that curseth 05:07 father or mother, let him die the death. But ye say, 05:11 Whosoever shall say to his father or his mother, 05:14 It is a gift, by whatsoever thou mightest be profited by me; 05:19 And honour not his father or his mother, he shall be free. 05:23 Thus have ye made the commandment of God 05:26 of none effect by your tradition. Ye hypocrites, 05:31 well did Esaias prophesy of you, saying, This people draweth nigh 05:36 unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; 05:39 but their heart is far from me. But in vain they do worship me, 05:45 teaching for doctrine, the commandments of men. 05:49 And he called the multitude and said unto them, Hear and 05:52 understand: Not that which goeth into the mouth defileth a man; 05:58 but that which cometh out of the mouth, this defileth a man. 06:02 Then came his disciples, and said unto him, Knowest thou 06:07 that the Pharisees were offended after they heard this saying? 06:10 But he answered and said, Every plant, which my heavenly Father 06:15 hath not planted, shall be rooted up. Let them alone. 06:19 they be blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind lead 06:24 the blind, both shall fall into the ditch. Then answered 06:28 Peter and said unto him, Declare unto us this parable. And Jesus 06:33 said, Are ye also yet, without understanding? Do not ye yet 06:37 understand, that whatsoever entereth in at the mouth 06:40 goeth into the belly, and is cast out into the draught? 06:43 But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth 06:47 from the heart; and they defile the man. For out of the heart 06:51 proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts 06:57 false witness, blasphemies: These are the things which 07:00 defile a man: but to eat with unwashen hands defileth not 07:05 a man. Then Jesus went thence, and departed into the coasts 07:10 of Tyre and Sidon. And behold, a woman of Canaan came out 07:15 of the same coasts, and cried unto him, saying, Have mercy 07:18 on me, O Lord, thou son of David my daughter is grievously vexed 07:22 with a devil. But he answered her not a word. 07:25 And his disciples came and besought him, saying, 07:29 Send her away; for she crieth after us. But he answered 07:33 and said, I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the 07:36 house of Israel. Then came she and worshipped him, saying, 07:40 Lord, help me. But he answered and said, It is not meet to take 07:44 the children's bread, and to cast it to dogs. And she said, 07:49 Truth, Lord: yet the dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from their 07:54 masters' table. Then Jesus answered and said unto her, 07:58 O woman, great is thy faith: be it unto thee even as thou wilt. 08:04 And her daughter was made whole from that very hour. 08:08 And Jesus departed from thence, and came nigh unto the sea of 08:13 Galilee; and went up into a mountain, and sat down there. 08:15 And great multitudes came unto him, having with them those 08:20 that were lame, blind, dumb, maimed, and many others, 08:24 and cast them down at Jesus feet; and he healed them: 08:28 Insomuch that the multitude wondered, when they saw 08:32 the dumb to speak, the maimed to be whole, the lame to walk, and 08:36 the blind to see: and they glorified the God of Israel. 08:40 Then Jesus called his disciples unto him, and said, 08:44 I have compassion on the multitude, because they 08:47 continue with me now three days, and have nothing to eat: 08:51 and I will not send them away fasting, lest they faint in the 08:55 way. And his disciples say unto him, Whence should we have 08:59 so much bread in the wilderness, as to fill so great a multitude? 09:03 And Jesus saith unto them, How many loaves have ye? 09:08 And they said, Seven, and a few little fishes. And he commanded 09:13 the multitude to sit down on the ground. And he took the seven 09:17 loaves and the fishes, and gave thanks, and brake them 09:20 and gave to his disciples, and the disciples to the multitude. 09:24 And they did all eat, and were filled: and they took up of the 09:29 broken meat that was left seven baskets full. And they that did 09:35 eat were four thousand men, besides women and children. 09:38 And he sent away the multitude, and took ship, and came into the 09:43 coasts of Magdala. - I'm reading from the book of 09:46 Matthew, chapter 16. - The Pharisees also with the 09:50 Sadducees came, and tempting desired him that he would shew 09:55 them a sign from heaven. He answered and said unto them, 09:58 When it is evening, ye say, It will be fair weather: 10:02 for the sky is red. And in the morning, It will be foul weather 10:07 today: for the sky is red and lowering. O ye hypocrites, 10:11 ye can discern the face of the sky; but can ye not discern 10:15 the signs of the times? A wicked and adulterous 10:19 generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given 10:24 unto it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas. And he left 10:27 them and departed. And when his disciples were come to the other 10:32 side, they had forgotten to take bread. Then Jesus said 10:36 unto them, Take heed and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees 10:40 and of the Sadducees. And they reasoned among themselves, 10:43 saying, It is because we have taken no bread. Which when Jesus 10:48 perceived, he said unto them, O ye of little faith, why reason 10:53 ye among yourselves, because ye have brought no bread? 10:56 Do ye not yet understand, neither remember the 5 loaves 11:01 of the five thousand, and how many baskets ye took up? 11:04 Neither the seven loaves of the four thousand, and how many 11:08 baskets ye took up? How is it that ye do not understand 11:11 that I spake it not to you concerning bread, 11:14 that ye should beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and 11:16 of the Sadducees? Then understood they how that 11:21 he bade them not beware of the leaven of bread, but of the 11:25 doctrine of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees. When Jesus came 11:29 into the coasts of Caesarea Philippi, 11:31 he asked his disciples, saying, 11:33 Whom do men say that I the Son of man am? 11:37 And they said, Some say that 11:40 thou art John the Baptist: some Elias; and others Jeremias, or 11:44 one of the prophets. He saith unto them, But whom say ye 11:50 that I am? And Simon Peter answered and said, 11:53 Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God. And Jesus 11:58 answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou Simon Barjona: 12:02 for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my 12:06 Father which is in heaven. And I say also unto thee, 12:10 That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build 12:15 my church; and the gates of hell shall not 12:18 prevail against it. 12:19 And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven; 12:23 And whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound 12:27 in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be 12:31 loosed in heaven. Then charged he his disciples that they 12:36 should tell no man that he was Jesus the Christ. From that time 12:40 forth began Jesus to shew unto his disciples, how that he must 12:44 go unto Jerusalem, and suffer many things of the elders and 12:48 chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised again 12:51 the third day. Then Peter took him, and began to rebuke him, 12:55 saying, Be it far from thee, Lord: this shall not be unto 12:59 thee. But he turned, and said unto Peter, Get thee behind me, 13:03 Satan: thou art an offence unto me; for thou savourest not the 13:08 things that be of God, but those that be of men. Then said Jesus 13:14 unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny 13:19 himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. For whosoever 13:24 will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose 13:28 his life for my sake shall find it. For what is a man profited, 13:33 if he shall gain the whole world and lose his own soul? 13:37 or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul? For 13:40 the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father, 13:43 with his angels; and then he shall reward every man 13:46 according to his works. Verily I say unto you, There be some 13:52 standing her, which shall not taste of death, till they see 13:55 the Son of man coming in his kingdom. 13:58 I'm reading in the book of Matthew, chapter 17. 14:02 And after six days Jesus taketh Peter, James, and John his 14:07 brother and bringeth them up into an high mountain apart, 14:10 And was transfigured before them and his face did shine as the 14:15 sun, and his raiment was white as the light. 14:19 Thank you again for being with us during this time 14:23 of the reading of God's word. And it's my prayer that these 14:26 words will be a comfort to you in the days ahead. If you go out 14:29 into your homes and your jobs; your families and your 14:32 communities, may God be with you, and keep you. |
