00:16 Hi, I'm Kelly Mowrer. And welcome to HIS WORDS ARE LIFE.
00:19 I know that I'm a new face here, for those of you who have 00:23 been blessed to read His Word with Mollie Steenson 00:25 through the years. Because of her many responsibilities 00:29 at 3ABN, Mollie invited me to continue the blessing of reading 00:32 God's holy word with you. And before I came out here today, 00:36 she prayed with me. And now before we go to the word 00:38 together, let's pray together now. 00:40 Dear Holy Father, thank you so very much, for the gift of 00:46 these words; that are to us life and light and hope, 00:50 and healing, and comfort, and joy and strength. Please be with 00:54 us now as we read your word. Give us wisdom and understanding 00:58 We love you Jesus. Amen. 01:01 I'm reading today from the King James version, the 01:05 book of Matthew, chapter one, and I'll begin with verse 18. 01:09 Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: 01:13 When as his mother, Mary was espoused to Joseph, before 01:18 they came together, she was found with child 01:21 of the Holy Ghost. Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, 01:26 and not willing to make her a public example, was minded to 01:30 put her away privily. But while he thought on these things, 01:34 behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, 01:38 saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take 01:42 unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her 01:47 is of the Holy Ghost. And she shall bring forth a son, 01:51 and thou shalt name Jesus: for he shall save his people 01:55 from their sins. Now all this was done, that it might be 01:59 fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, 02:03 Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth 02:07 a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, 02:10 which being interpreted is, God with us. 02:14 Then Joseph being raised from sleep did as the angel 02:19 of the Lord had bidden him, and took unto him his wife: 02:23 And knew her not till she had brought forth her firstborn son. 02:27 And he called his name, JESUS. 02:29 Reading from the King James version, the book of Matthew, 02:33 Chapter two: Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea 02:38 in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men 02:42 from the east to Jerusalem, Saying, Where is he that is born 02:46 King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, 02:49 and are come to worship him. When Herod the king had heard 02:54 these things, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him, 02:57 And when he had gathered all the chief priests and scribes 03:01 of the people together, he demanded of them 03:04 where Christ should be born. And they said unto him, 03:07 in Bethlehem of Judea: for thus it is written by the prophet, 03:11 And thou Bethlehem, in the land of Juda, art not the least among 03:16 the princes of Juda: for out of thee shall come a Governor, 03:20 that shall rule my people Israel. Then Herod, 03:25 when he had privily called the wise men, inquired of them 03:28 diligently what time the star appeared. 03:31 And he sent them to Bethlehem, and said, Go and search 03:36 diligently for the young child; and when ye have found him, 03:40 bring me word again, that I may come and worship him also. 03:43 When they had heard the king, they departed; and, lo, the star 03:48 which they saw in the east, went before them, till it came 03:51 and stood over where the young child was. 03:54 When they saw the star, they rejoiced 03:56 with exceeding great joy. And when they were come 04:00 into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother 04:03 and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened 04:07 their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, 04:10 and frankincense, and myrrh. And being warned of God 04:14 in a dream that they should not return to Herod, they departed 04:18 into their own country another way. And when they were departed 04:22 behold, the angel of the Lord appeareth to Joseph in a dream, 04:27 saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, 04:30 and flee into Egypt, and be thou there until I bring thee word: 04:35 for Herod will seek the young child to destroy him. 04:39 When he arose, he took the young child and his mother by night, 04:43 and departed into Egypt: And was there until the death of Herod: 04:47 that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord 04:50 by the prophet, saying, Out of Egypt have I called my son. 04:54 Then Herod, when he saw that he was mocked of the wise men, 04:59 was exceeding wroth, and sent forth, and slew all the children 05:04 that were in Bethlehem, and in all the coasts thereof, 05:07 from two years old and under, according to the time 05:10 which he had diligently inquired of the wise men. 05:13 Then was fulfilled that which was spoken by Jeremy the prophet 05:18 saying, In Rama was there a voice heard, lamentation, 05:23 and weeping, and great mourning. Rachel weeping for her children, 05:28 and would not be comforted, because they are not. 05:31 But when Herod was dead, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared 05:36 in a dream to Joseph in Egypt, Saying, Arise, 05:39 and take the young child and his mother, and go into the land 05:43 of Israel: for they are dead which sought the young child's 05:47 life. And he arose, and took the young child and his mother, 05:51 and came unto the land of Israel. But when he heard 05:54 that Archelaus did reign in Judea in the room of his father 05:58 Herod, he was afraid to go thither: notwithstanding, 06:01 being warned of God in a dream, he turned aside into the parts 06:05 of Galilee: And he came and dwelt in a city called Nazareth; 06:10 that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophets, 06:13 He shall be called a Nazarene. - Matthew, chapter three. 06:19 In those days came John the Baptist, preaching 06:22 in the wilderness of Judea, and saying, Repent ye: 06:26 for the kingdom of heaven is at hand. For this is he that was 06:30 spoken of by the prophet Esaias, saying, The voice of one crying 06:34 in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, 06:37 make his paths straight. And the same John had his raiment 06:42 of camel's hair, and a leathern girdle about his loins; 06:46 and his meat was locusts and wild honey. Then went out to him 06:51 Jerusalem, and all Judea, and all the region round about 06:55 Jordan, and were baptized of him in Jordan, confessing their 06:59 sins. But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees 07:04 come to his baptism, he said unto them, O generation of 07:09 vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come? 07:13 Bring forth therefore fruits meet for repentance; 07:18 and think not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham 07:22 to our father: for I say unto you, that God is able of these 07:28 stones to raise up children unto Abraham. And now also 07:33 the axe is laid unto the root of the trees: therefore every tree 07:37 which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, 07:41 and cast into the fire. I indeed baptize you with water unto 07:47 repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, 07:51 whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you 07:56 with the Holy Ghost, and with fire. Whose fan is in his hand 08:01 and he will throughly purge his floor, and gather his wheat 08:05 into the garner; but he will burn up the chaff 08:08 with unquenchable fire. Then cometh Jesus from Galilee 08:13 to Jordan unto John, to be baptized of him. But John 08:18 forbad him, saying, I have need to be baptized of thee, 08:22 and comest thou to me? And Jesus answering said unto him, 08:27 Suffer it to be so now: for thus it becometh us to fulfil 08:32 all righteousness. Then he suffered him. And Jesus, 08:37 when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: 08:41 and lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit 08:45 of God, decending like a dove, and lighting upon him: And lo 08:50 a voice from heaven saying, This is my beloved Son, 08:54 in whom I am well pleased. Chapter four 08:59 Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness 09:04 to be tempted of the devil. And when he had fasted forty days 09:09 and forty nights, he was afterward an hungered. 09:11 And when the tempter came to him he said, 09:14 If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones 09:19 be made bread. But he answered and said, 09:23 It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by 09:29 every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God. 09:32 Then the devil taketh him up into the holy city, and setteth 09:36 him on a pinnacle of the temple, and saith unto him, 09:39 If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, 09:44 He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: 09:47 and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time 09:51 thou dash thy foot against a stone. Jesus said unto him, 09:56 It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God. 10:00 Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, 10:05 and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of 10:08 them; and saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, 10:12 if thou wilt fall down and and worship me. 10:15 then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: 10:20 for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, 10:24 and him only shalt thou serve. Then the devil leaveth him, 10:30 and behold, angels came and ministered unto him. 10:34 Now when Jesus had heard that John was cast into prison, 10:38 he departed into Galilee; and leaving Nazareth he came 10:42 and dwelt in Capernaum, which is upon the sea coast, 10:44 in the borders of Zabulon and Nephthalim: that it might be 10:49 fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying, 10:52 The land of Zabulon and the land of Nephthalim, by the way of the 10:56 sea, beyond Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles; 10:59 The people which sat in darkness saw great light; 11:04 and to them which sat in the region and shadow of death 11:08 light is sprung up. From that time Jesus began to preach, 11:14 and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven 11:17 is at hand. And Jesus, walking by the sea of Galilee, 11:21 saw two brethren, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother 11:25 casting a net into the sea: for they were fishers. 11:29 And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers 11:34 of men. And they straightway left their nets, and followed 11:38 him. And going on from thence, he saw other two brethren, 11:43 James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, in a ship 11:47 with Zebedee their father, mending their nets; 11:49 and he called them. And they immediately left the ship 11:53 and their father, and followed him. And Jesus went about all 11:58 Galilee, teaching in their synagogues. 12:00 and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner 12:04 of sickness and all manner of disease 12:06 among the people. And his fame went throughout all 12:09 all Syria: and they brought unto him all sick people 12:12 that were taken with divers diseases and torments, 12:15 and those which were possessed with devils, 12:18 and those which were lunatic, and those that had the palsy; 12:21 and he healed them. And there followed him great multitudes 12:25 of people from Galilee, and from Decapolis, and from 12:29 Jerusalem, and from Judea, and from beyond Jordan. 12:32 Chapter 5 And seeing the multitudes, 12:37 he went up into a mountain: and when he was set, 12:39 his disciples came unto him: and he opened his mouth, 12:43 and taught them, saying, Blessed are the poor in spirt: 12:47 for theirs is the kingdom of heaven, 12:50 Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted. 12:55 Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth. 13:00 Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness; 13:04 for they shall be filled. Blessed are the merciful 13:07 for they shall obtain mercy. Blessed are the pure in heart: 13:11 for they shall see God. Blessed are the peacemakers: 13:15 for they shall be called the children of God. 13:18 Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' 13:22 sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 13:25 Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, 13:30 and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake 13:34 Rejoice and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in 13:39 heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets 13:41 which were before you. Ye are the salt of the earth: 13:45 but if the salt have lost his savour, 13:48 wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good 13:52 for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden 13:55 under the foot of men. Ye are the light of the world. 13:59 A city that is set on a hill cannot be hid. 14:03 Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel. 14:06 but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are 14:10 in the house. Let your light so shine before men, 14:15 that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father 14:19 which is in heaven. Think not that I am come to destroy 14:24 the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy 14:28 but to fulfil. - Thank you again 14:31 for joining me to read the word of God. Goodbye. |
