00:01 Hi, I'm
00:03 I'd like to welcome and invite you to join us 00:04 in our study on the nine gifts of the Holy Spirit. 00:05 But before we study the last three gifts of the Holy Spirit, 00:08 we are going to take a look at the baptism of the Holy Spirit. 00:13 We have had many of our viewers responding with questions about 00:16 the Holy Spirit and the gifts of the Spirit. 00:18 The questions include: Didn't I receive the Holy Spirit 00:21 when I was born again? Another key question is: 00:24 How do I receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit? 00:27 In addition, there is the question: Do I need the baptism 00:31 of the Holy Spirit in order for the nine gifts of the 00:34 Holy Spirit to operate through me? 00:36 Well, if you'll get your Bibles and stay with us 00:40 for the next half hour, we'll endeavor to answer these 00:43 questions and many others for you on today's 00:46 Heaven's Point of View. 01:09 There are so many misunderstandings 01:11 surrounding the baptism with the Holy Spirit, 01:14 and we are going to clear up several of those here today 01:18 by God's grace and His Word. First, there's the misconception 01:22 that you receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit 01:25 when you are born again. Second, some may believe 01:29 they receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit 01:31 when they are water baptized. Third, there are those who 01:35 believe they must achieve some plateau of spiritual perfection 01:40 before they can receive the baptism with the Holy Spirit. 01:43 And then there are those who believe that the baptism 01:47 of the Holy Spirit is no longer valid in this age. 01:51 Well, in today's study we are going to answer these questions 01:55 and explain the proper prerequisites and procedure 02:00 for receiving the baptism with the Holy Spirit. 02:03 Now this is simple. There are two basic prerequisites 02:08 for the baptism with the Holy Spirit. 02:10 First, you must be born again. John 3:1-3 says: 02:15 "There was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, 02:18 a ruler of the Jews. The same came to Jesus 02:20 by night and said unto Him: 'Rabbi, we know that thou art 02:24 a teacher come from God - for no man can do these miracles 02:28 that Thou doest except God be with Him. ' 02:31 Jesus answered and said unto him: 02:33 'Verily, verily I say unto thee: except a man be born again 02:39 he cannot see the kingdom of God. ' " 02:42 This is, this is the place here where I want you to see this: 02:45 It says cannot see the kingdom of God before it says 02:48 enter the kingdom of God. If you are standing at the 02:51 bottom of the Empire State Building, just because you can 02:53 see the top doesn't mean you are there. Are you with me? 02:55 What you have to do is you have to enter all the way in 02:58 and allow God to do a work in you. 03:01 It says: "Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom 03:04 of God. " You must desire, number two, you must desire 03:09 the Holy Spirit. Oh, desire, hunger and thirst! 03:14 says: "Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst 03:16 after righteousness " for the might be filled? 03:20 Unh unh! 'they SHALL be filled. " 03:22 God's not going to force anything on us 03:25 that we don't want. When we ask Jesus to come into our lives, 03:28 it's because we desire for Him to be Lord of our lives. 03:32 Not only will He not force Himself on us - He cannot force 03:37 Himself on us. We are drawn by the Holy Spirit 03:40 willing to give our lives to Jesus, repent from our sins 03:43 and allow Jesus to forgive us and cleanse us 03:45 from all unrighteousness. This experience does involve 03:49 the Holy Spirit, and our salvation does include 03:53 the Holy Spirit because they are inseparable. 03:57 We, as Seventh-day Adventists, are a trinitarian church 04:00 and therefore would never attempt to divide the Godhead 04:02 for separation. However, there are times 04:06 when we need to divide for clarification and definition. 04:11 When we separate the Godhead for clarification, 04:15 clarification, we begin to understand the individual 04:19 workings and the ministries of all three. 04:22 If you are born again and you desire 04:25 the baptism of the Holy Spirit, 04:27 then YOU, my friend, are ready to receive Him. 04:32 Many people only consider water baptism when discussing baptism. 04:37 However, the book of Hebrews tells us 04:40 of more than one baptism. 04:42 Hebrews 6:1-3 says: 04:44 "Therefore, leaving the principles of the doctrine of 04:47 Christ let us go on unto perfection - not laying again 04:51 the foundation of repentance from dead works 04:54 and of faith for God of the doctrine of baptisms. " 04:58 Now I want you to hear this. "Of the doctrine of baptisms, 05:01 and of the laying on of hands, and of the resurrection 05:04 of the dead, and of eternal judgment - and this will we do 05:08 if " - what? - "if God permits. " 05:11 Now for many, many, many who believe 05:14 they receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit 05:16 when they are saved or water baptized, please note 05:20 that I did not say you did not receive the Holy Spirit. 05:23 You received the Holy Spirit! 05:25 What I said was you don't receive the baptism 05:29 with the Holy Spirit - and there is a huge difference. 05:34 Now we are going to look at some simple explanations 05:37 that will be backed up by God's Word - the B-I-B-L-E. 05:41 These scriptures and explanations should explain why 05:44 this is not scriptural that you receive it when you are 05:48 saved or baptized, water baptized. 05:50 We are going to examine three different types of baptism. 05:53 Each of these three baptisms has three factors. 05:58 Each one, each baptism, has three factors 06:01 and these factors are: 06:04 Factor 1 is the baptizer. 06:09 Factor 2 is the object. 06:12 Factor 3 is the element or what they are baptized into. 06:17 First we will look at being born again 06:19 or what is commonly referred to as being saved or salvation. 06:23 This is the first baptismal event in the life 06:27 of the new believer. But according to scripture 06:31 it's not the only one. I Corinthians - take note of 06:35 these scriptures. Take notes if you are there with a pencil 06:37 or pen in your home. I Corinthians 12:13 says: 06:40 "For by one Spirit " CAPITAL S there - this is 06:44 referenced to, almost every commentator will tell you 06:46 that its a reference to the Holy Spirit. 06:48 "So by one Spirit " - the Holy Spirit - "are we all " 06:51 - here is this word - "baptized into one body. " 06:55 What body is it? It's the body of Christ. 06:57 "Whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free 07:01 and have been all made to drink into one Spirit. " 07:04 Now this scripture plainly tells us 07:08 that when you are born again, saved, that the baptizer 07:12 is the Holy Spirit. 07:13 The object that's being baptized is the new, born again 07:18 believer, and the element that they are being baptized into 07:22 is the body of Christ. 07:23 Now next we are going to look at water baptism. 07:26 Please take note that all three factors are constant 07:30 and do not change. However, the pesons representing the 07:34 baptizer and the element do change. 07:39 says this: "He that believeth and is baptized 07:43 shall be saved, but he that believeth not shall be damned. " 07:46 This is water baptism. The baptizer in water baptism 07:51 is the New Testament church or your pastor. 07:54 The object that is being baptized stays the same. 07:58 It's you - the new believer. 07:59 But the element they are being baptized into changes 08:03 and it is water. This is water baptism. 08:06 The word used for baptism in these scriptures is baptiso - 08:10 which means to immerse, submerge, or dip into. 08:14 When someone is buried, they are lowered into the grave 08:17 and then covered up completely. In the same manner, 08:20 the Holy Spirit submerges us into Jesus 08:24 when we are born again, and the pastor submerges us 08:27 into the baptismal pool at our water baptism. 08:30 It is a complete and total being put into. 08:35 Now the next baptism is the baptism with the Holy Spirit. 08:40 Once again, please take note that all three factors 08:43 remain the same - but the baptizer and the element change. 08:47 In this next text, John the Baptist is speaking 08:51 and it is accepted that he is referring to Jesus. 08:58 says: "I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance 09:02 but He that cometh after me is mightier than I - 09:05 whose shoes I am not worthy to bear. He " 09:09 - this is talking about Jesus - " shall baptize you with the 09:12 Holy Ghost and with fire. " Now this is the true baptism 09:16 with the Holy Spirit. In the baptism with the Holy Spirit 09:20 the baptizer changes and it becomes Jesus 09:24 who is doing the baptism. The object that is being baptized 09:28 is still the same. You've been born again, 09:30 you've been water baptized, you're ready to go on with God, 09:33 the new believer - but the element that they are being 09:35 baptized into also changes. Jesus baptizes you into the 09:41 Holy Spirit. Now let's review 09:43 what we have just learned in our lesson today. 09:45 First, when you are born again, the Holy Spirit is the baptizer 09:49 and puts you into the body of Christ. 09:51 This is accomplished in the spiritual realm. 09:55 First is when you are born again. Remember now, 09:59 the first thing is you have got to be born again. 10:01 The baptizer is the Holy Spirit. The object being baptized: you, 10:05 the new believer. The element that's being baptized 10:08 into is the body of Christ. 10:10 When you are water baptized, the New Testament church 10:13 with your pastor officiating, is the baptizer. 10:16 It puts you into the water in the baptismal pool. 10:18 Then, when you are baptized with water, the baptizer 10:23 again becomes the local church. The object is the new believer 10:29 and the element you are being baptized into is water. 10:32 When you are baptized, though, with the Holy Spirit, 10:35 the baptizer becomes Jesus and the element we are baptized 10:39 into is the Holy Spirit. 10:40 Then next, when you are baptized with the Holy Spirit, 10:43 hang on here with me, the baptizer is Jesus 10:48 according to Matthew. The object that's being baptized 10:52 is still you but the element they are being baptized into 10:56 is the Holy Spirit. 10:57 Now let's get back to the third group of people we discussed 11:01 in the opening of today's program. 11:02 The ones who believe we must reach a certain level 11:06 of spiritual maturity before you can receive the baptism 11:10 of the Holy Spirit. This teaching is unscriptural. 11:14 Along with this false teaching is the practice of tarrying 11:17 for the Holy Spirit - which is also unscriptural. 11:21 Now, let's look at the error of tarrying teaching. 11:26 This is where certain Pentecostals say that you 11:29 must tarry for the Holy Spirit the same way the disciples did 11:33 on the Day of Pentecost. The reason the disciples were 11:37 tarrying at Pentecost was that the Holy Spirit was 11:39 not yet given. John 7:37-39 says: 11:43 "In the last day, that great day of the feast, 11:45 Jesus stood and cried saying 'If any man thirst, 11:48 let him come unto Me and drink. 11:50 He that believeth on Me as the scripture hath said 11:55 out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. ' 11:58 But this He spake of the Spirit which they that believed on Him 12:02 should receive" - now get this - "for the Holy Ghost 12:05 was not yet given because Jesus was not yet glorified. " 12:08 The Holy Spirit was poured out on the Day of Pentecost 12:12 and has never been removed from that day until now. 12:18 Just to prove it according to the Word of God says: 12:21 "And I will pray the Father, and He will give you 12:24 another Comforter that He may abide with you. " 12:26 For summer vacations? No, through Christmas holidays? 12:29 How about Easter? NO! 12:31 "That He may abide with you forever. " Isn't that wonderful? 12:33 We do not receive the baptism by tarrying, or crying, or begging, 12:38 or pleading. We have complicated the gospel 12:41 Jesus only preached two messages. 12:43 One of them was come here and the other one was go there. 12:49 says: "And I say unto you, ask and it shall be given you; 12:52 seek and you shall find; knock and it shall be opened 12:55 unto YOU. For everyone that asketh receiveth 12:58 and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh 13:01 it shall be opened. If a son shall ask bread 13:04 of any of you that is a father, will you give him a stone? 13:08 Or if he ask fish, will for a fish give him a serpent? " 13:12 I don't think so. "Or if he shall ask an egg, 13:15 will you offer him a scorpion? 13:17 If ye then being evil know how to give good gifts 13:21 unto your children, " WOW... 13:23 "how much more shall your Heavenly Father 13:25 give the Holy Spirit to them " - it's simple - 13:30 That do what? "that ask Him. " 13:32 We receive the Holy Spirit simply by asking the Father 13:35 for the Holy Spirit. There is a however 13:38 something that must accompany the asking, 13:40 and that something is faith. 13:42 We must receive the Holy Spirit 13:44 the same way we accept God - by faith. 13:48 We receive the Holy Spirit the same way we receive Jesus 13:51 and that is by faith! 13:52 Galations 3:2, I love what it says in the Amplified. 13:55 It says: "Let me ask you this one question. 13:58 Did you receive the Holy Spirit as a result of obeying the law 14:01 or doing its works? Or was it by hearing the message 14:05 of the gospel and believing it? 14:08 Was it from observing a law of rituals or from a message 14:11 of faith? " I think it was from a message of faith. 14:14 The only reason for anyone not to receive the baptism 14:16 of the Holy Spirit is that he or she has not been born again. 14:21 John 14:16: 14:23 "I pray the Father and He will give you another Comforter 14:25 that He may abide with you forever - even the 14:27 Spirit of Truth whom the world cannot receive 14:29 because it seeth Him not. " Now get this, OK? 14:32 The world can't receive the Holy Spirit. 14:36 That's the only reason for you not being able to receive 14:39 the Holy Spirit is not being born again. 14:40 It goes on to say: "Neither knoweth Him, 14:43 but ye know Him, for He dwelleth with you and shall dwell in you" 14:46 The world, the lost, cannot receive the Holy Spirit. 14:49 However the world, thank God, thank God, 14:52 However the world, the sinner, can receive Jesus as Lord 14:56 and Saviour and then, when you make Jesus Lord, 14:59 you are now ready to receive the baptism with the Holy Spirit. 15:02 There is no specific order of the second or third baptism. 15:07 The first baptism must be when you are baptized 15:10 into the body of Christ and when you are born again 15:14 and receive salvation. Now let me share some simple truths 15:18 to receiving the baptism with the Holy Spirit, OK? 15:21 No. 1: You must desire the baptism with the Holy Spirit. 15:25 You must be born again before you can receive the baptism 15:28 with the Holy Spirit. And simply you must ASK 15:31 for the Holy Spirit to be baptized with the Holy Spirit. 15:35 You must ask and receive Him also by faith. 15:38 Listen to this statement. 15:40 Powerful, from the Acts of the Apostles 50.2: 16:41 Listen to how Ellen White admonishes us 16:44 to receive the baptism with the Holy Spirit. Powerful: 17:24 Now, let's look at the last three gifts 17:27 from the 12th chapter of I Corinthians. 17:30 These are the gifts of healings, the gift of faith, 17:33 the gift of miracles. These are the gifts 17:35 that my heart cries out to be established in our churches. 17:38 These gifts are the GIFTS TO DO. 17:41 Power gifts, as Jesus and the apostles did. 17:45 These are the gifts our pastoral staff need 17:48 when we receive a prayer call for a six-month old baby girl 17:53 named Mary who had just been diagnosed with cancer 17:57 in both eyes and you want to do more than just 18:01 comfort her parents. First, the gift of healings - pleural. 18:07 The gift of healings are extensions of God's covenant 18:11 name Jehovah-raffa - the Lord our Healer. 18:14 The gift of healings are God's way of healing all manners 18:18 of sicknesses and diseases that afflict humanity. 18:21 A good example would be: 18:25 It says: "And Jesus went about all Galilee 18:28 teaching in their synagogues and preaching the gospel 18:31 of the kingdom and healing " some manner? 18:34 No, not some manner, "ALL MANNER 18:36 of sickness and all manner of diseases among the people. 18:40 And His fame went throughout all Syria 18:43 and they brought unto Him all sick people 18:47 that were taken with diverse diseases and torments 18:51 and those possessed with devils and those which were lunatics. " 18:56 Man, we can clean the hospitals out! 18:58 We can the insane assylums out, the mental institutions out! 19:01 We can clean them out if we were moving this. 19:04 It says: "and those that had the palsy - AND HE HEALED THEM! " 19:07 The remant church will need all these gifts 19:10 as God begins to pour out the Latter Rain. 19:13 It will be our God-given responsibility 19:16 to allow the gifts of the Holy Spirit 19:18 to operate through us to bring souls into right standing 19:24 with Christ. The gift of healings refers 19:27 to the supernatural healing without human aid. 19:30 It is a special gift to confront specific afflictions 19:34 and diseases. The healing can come through the touch of faith. 19:40 "Is any sick among you? Let him call for the elders 19:42 of the church and let them pray over him, 19:44 anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. 19:47 And the prayer of faith shall save the sick. 19:49 and the Lord shall raise him up 19:51 and if he have committed any sins, 19:54 they will be forgiven him. " Now, the key to this passage 19:57 is the person who is sick is to call for the elders 20:00 not the other way around. Healing can also come by the 20:03 speaking the word of faith. Powerful scripture: 20:08 says: "Now when He had end all of his sayings 20:10 in the audience of the people He entered into Capernaum. 20:13 Anc a certain centurion's servant, who was dear unto him, 20:16 was sick and ready to die. And when he heard of Jesus, 20:20 he sent unto Him the elders of the Jews, 20:22 beseeching Him that He would come and heal his servant. 20:26 And when they came to Jesus they besought him instantly, 20:29 saying, That he was worthy for whom He should do this: 20:33 For he loveth our nation and he hath built us a synagogue. 20:37 Then Jesus went with him, and when He was now not far 20:41 from the house, the centurion sent friends to him, saying 20:44 unto Him, 'Lord, trouble not thyself: for I am not worthy 20:48 that Thou shouldest enter under my roof: 20:50 Wherefore neither thought I myself worthy to come unto Thee 20:54 but say it in a word, say in a word, 21:00 and my servant shall be healed. For I also am a man 21:04 set under authority, having under me soldiers, 21:07 and I say unto one, Go, and he goeth; 21:09 and to another, Come, and he cometh; 21:11 and to my servant, Do this, and he doeth it. ' 21:13 When Jesus heard these things, he marveled at him, 21:16 and turned him about, and said unto the people 21:20 that followed Him, 'I say unto you, 21:22 I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel. ' 21:26 And they that were sent, returning to the house, 21:30 found the servant whole that had been sick. " 21:33 Now healing can also take place when the presence of God 21:36 is being manifested. Mark 6:56 says: 21:40 "And whithersoever He entered, into villages, or cities, 21:42 or country, they laid the sick in the streets and besought Him 21:46 that they might touch if it were but the border of his garment: 21:50 and as many as touched Him were made whole. " 21:53 The Bible speaks of the gifts of healings 21:57 because there are three major types of healing. 22:00 First, there is physical healing. 22:01 Diabetes, blindness, cancer, deafness, and so on. 22:04 Then there is emotional healing. 22:06 Jealousy, worry, discouragement, and other destructive attitudes. 22:10 Then there is spiritual healing. 22:11 Bitterness, greed, guilt - things that will just 22:14 wear you down. Although there are three main types of healings 22:19 there is much diversity with the gifts of healings. 22:24 While one person might have the gift of healing 22:26 to rid of person of cancer, perform a creative miracle, 22:29 another person might have a diversity of the same gift 22:32 to correct depression problems or remove a root of bitterness. 22:35 Also, according to Mark 16:17-20 22:39 the gifts of healings are available to all believers 22:42 who believe. Mark 16 says: 22:44 "And these signs shall follow them that believe: 22:46 In my name they shall cast out devils, 22:48 they shall speak with new tongues, 22:50 they shall take up serpents; 22:51 and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them. 22:54 They shall lay hands on the sick and they shall recover. 22:56 So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, 22:59 He was received up into heaven, 23:01 and sat at the right hand of God. 23:02 And they went forth, and preached everywhere, 23:04 the Lord working with them, and confirming His word 23:07 with signs following. " 23:10 Hey, we are going to take a short break and we'll be back 23:13 right after this. Don't go away. 23:18 If you've been confused about what the Bible says 23:20 about the Holy Spirit's amazing gifts for the church, 23:23 you'll want to order your very own copy of this 13-part series. 23:27 It's available on DVD or video cassette from 3ABN 23:30 at a very special price. Nevertheless, he had been sick 24:21 for 38 years and was desperate despite knowing the facts 24:26 about the pool. There was only one pool; 24:29 there would only be one angel to stir the water - 24:32 and no one knew when it would happen. 24:35 He was conscious of the fact that he had to be the 24:38 first person in the water. He had to be the first because 24:42 there would only be one healing. 24:44 His problem was insurmountable because he knew his affliction 24:48 would detain any speedy movement toward the pool. 24:52 He was dreadfully aware that the other people would not 24:56 help him into the water lest they forfeit their opportunity 24:59 to be healed. Even as he surveyed Bethesda, 25:02 the source of recovery for him, he was overwhelmed 25:07 with thoughts of despair. >From the despair of his 25:12 deathbed he heard a voice speaking to him. 25:14 Looking up, he saw someone standing in front of him 25:18 looking down with compassion in His eyes. 25:21 What was it the man had said to him? 25:24 Did He say 'wilt thou be made whole? ' 25:27 He responded, 'Sir, I have no man when the water is troubled 25:31 to put me into the pool. But while I am coming 25:33 another steppeth down before me. ' 25:35 The stranger spoke again with authority and declared: 25:40 'Rise, take up thy bed, and walk. ' 25:42 He didn't know exactly why he reacted so quickly 25:45 without questioning this man, but he got up anyway. 25:49 He got up and immediately he was made whole 25:52 and he took up his bed and he walked. 25:53 And as he walked away from the pool 25:55 with his sleeping bed under his arm, 25:57 he was confronted by the Jews and told that it was unlawful 26:01 to carry his bed on the Sabbath. He answered them, 26:04 He that made me whole, the same said unto me, 26:06 "take up thy bed and walk. " He remembered the question 26:10 the man had asked. He remembered what the man had told him to do 26:13 and he knew he was healed. He knew he no longer needed 26:17 the pool, he no longer needed the people's help, 26:19 and he knew that his problem was gone. 26:21 He also knew that the first thing he was going to do 26:23 was go into the temple and worship God 26:25 because it was the Sabbath. And it had been years 26:27 since he had been there. This is where he found out 26:29 that the Saviour at the spa was Jesus. 26:32 He departed, found the Jews, and told them 26:33 it was Jesus that had made him whole. 26:35 It was Jesus - not the pool - which healed him 26:37 of 38-years' infirmities. It was Jesus - not the people - 26:40 that helped him. As he headed toward his home 26:42 and family, he pondered everything that had happened. 26:45 He had looked to several different things for his source 26:49 when in actuality this source, the entire source of all things, 26:54 was Jesus Christ - and this is all that he needed. 26:59 You know, when we get to the point to where we are moving 27:04 and manifesting the gifts of the Spirit, 27:07 we'll understand that there was nothing supernatural 27:13 about that pool - nothing supernatural... 27:15 until Jesus walked on the scene. 27:17 Then, supernatural took place and he was healed. 27:22 There are people out there sick, afflicted, and dying 27:27 going off out into eternity that need not do this 27:31 because we have not yet come into the truth 27:34 of the gifts of the Spirit. We need them. 27:36 Why? I said earlier 27:37 for the protection of the church to give us the authority 27:40 of the believer over every work of the enemy. 27:43 When we begin to lay hold of the truths 27:46 of the gifts of the Spirit of God, 27:49 embrace them and pull them into our heart, and allow Jesus 27:53 to receive all the glory for it, 27:55 we are going to see people saved, healed, set free, 27:59 delivered, and living their lives 28:03 for our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. 28:05 This is what I desire. Is it what you desire? 28:08 Because it's what God desires. 28:30 On our next Heaven's Point of View, 28:32 we are going to be looking at the last two 28:34 gifts of the Spirit: the charisma gift of faith 28:38 and the charisma gift of miracles. 28:40 It's going to be very exciting. Check your 3ABN World 28:42 for the dates and times; I'll see you there! |
