00:01 Hi everybody, I'm so glad to see you again.
00:03 Some of you may not know yet but I live in Washington
00:07 State and one of the things were most famous for is what
00:11 kids? - rain - rain because we have been having a lot
00:14 the last few days.
00:16 You know what? It makes for a really fun summer
00:19 afternoons, when you go to the park, or you go on a hike
00:22 and look for bugs and slugs and other wonderful things.
00:25 So I wondered, would you like to come with us?
00:27 We would love to have you, I'm driving the van and then
00:30 we're going to hit the road and go out to a place called
00:33 Lewis and Clark's State Park.
00:35 Would you like to come? Come on and find your place inside.
00:38 you got the front seat with me.
01:01 Is everybody in? - yeah. - Is everybody buckled up?
01:04 - yeah. - all right we're ready to go.
01:06 Let's get going now. Hold on! Well now guess what?
01:13 I left my key in my pocket. One time I was telling you
01:17 what I had my pockets, I didn't have much but now I have
01:22 the key to the truck and it.
01:23 Alright let's go. Ready? Hang on! Here we go.
01:29 Okay sing kids, you know the song. Can't roller skate in
01:33 a buffalo herd. - can't roller skate in a buffalo herd.
01:37 - you can't roller skate in a buffalo herd.
01:40 - Oh you can't skate in a buffalo herd.
01:43 But you can be happy if you have a mind to, alright
01:47 we are on our way. - Woo hoo!
01:50 These cows are the most outstanding in their field.
01:56 Ha-ha-ha-ha. - is that a dumb joke or what?
02:02 How much longer? - well not much longer, but just before
02:05 we get to the park there is a historic log cabin and
02:08 I thought maybe you would like to stop and visit.
02:11 Alright we'll do that. - yea!
02:17 Faster grandma faster! - this is fun.
02:24 Do you know what the most dangerous animal in Washington
02:27 is? - what? - it's the Wiley, a Western Washington's
02:31 slug. - why? - well they can hide out under leaves and
02:35 twigs and then all the sudden they come thundering out of
02:39 the woods, a whole herd of them and they can attack you if
02:42 you're not careful. Have you ever heard of that?
02:45 - no - no well I'll show you some.
02:49 Hey look there's the cabin. - there it is.
02:53 It's the cabin - Jackson House. Historic site.
02:57 You know a whole family lived in this tiny space.
03:00 Shall we look through the side window?
03:02 - there's an upstairs. - let's go see.
03:04 Oh there's an upstairs? Let's go see, come on.
03:10 Oh yeah the is, look up there!
03:11 Wouldn't that be a cool room to have?
03:13 Yeah I would like to sleep up there.
03:16 Tell you what I will race you out to that tree.
03:19 Get ready, get set, go!
03:30 I think everybody's legs are stretched now and we can
03:32 head down to the park. Come on kids, time to go.
03:37 Wee, the winds coming up. Oh how fun.
03:41 Let's go, let's get a move on Huh.
03:44 Those slugs are going to get away
03:46 from us if we don't hurry.
03:52 These are to catch - bugs - bugs and slugs and other
03:56 Wiley Forrest creatures, alright?
03:58 What are we going to do put them down
03:59 and let the slugs?
04:01 You just sit there and wait with a slug blind, have you
04:04 ever done that? - I'll sit here for 10 minutes.
04:06 Oh at least, a least.
04:07 Alright let's head up the trail and see what we can find.
04:10 You're going to need to look under every leaf and a piece
04:13 of twig and just see what ever is in the woods.
04:18 Ah, berries, look wild berries.
04:22 They're okay to eat but they are not quite ripe,
04:25 they need to be black, let the camera look.
04:32 Ah it's an olive green one, isn't he beautiful?
04:35 What do you think guys? - yeah.
04:37 Don't you think he's beautiful? - ah!
04:39 What about your hand now? Oh look he's walking.
04:43 Yes he is and we caught him in the open before
04:47 he thundered off under the brush.
04:48 This is a snail, very much like a slug but he has a shell.
04:58 Mine is huge. - these are Forrest garbage men.
05:00 Help find me a slug.
05:03 - She can have this one, because I have two.
05:05 Ed would you like that one? I don't like slugs too much.
05:10 You don't, I can't imagine that.
05:17 My hand is all sticky.
05:18 I found another one - get him, get him.
05:25 Ha, ha, I have nine slugs.
05:29 Well we obviously found a lot of the state famous word and
05:33 now we are ready to go down our trail, which we are
05:37 actually at the trailhead now.
05:38 What does that say? - Old Growth Trail!
05:40 - What does that mean? - old growth exactly.
05:45 That means that the trees in this part of the forest are
05:48 really, really old and haven't been logged for a very long
05:50 time, so we are heading down the trail now.
05:53 Do you want to come along?
05:54 Come on let's go guys.
05:56 Oh, look at that limb.
06:02 This is like a huge tree.
06:04 Ah this is pretty, look at all this nice Moss.
06:10 Oh there is more fun ahead too. Come on let's keep going.
06:13 If we didn't have all this nice rain we wouldn't have all
06:17 these beautiful things out here.
06:28 Grandma come back here with me.
06:31 - oh I don't know shall I?
06:50 There, alright. Which one do you want me to take out?
06:52 Ah that one. - right there? - Get it, get it.
06:58 Talk about stubborn, pull, pull hard Rory.
07:04 Ah, there he is brand-new and spanking wet behind the
07:10 ears. Where shall I put him?
07:12 At the starting line? - yeah.
07:15 Get ready, get set go!
07:27 Come on go, go.
07:34 He's winning, come on go.
07:39 Come on go, go, go.
07:41 Woo hoo, yea.
07:44 And the winner is Robert, ta, dah.
07:48 Yea, Yea for Robert. Look at him. He still champion
07:53 of the wild West. Good for Robert.
07:59 Oh boy, you know what I think I have had enough fun out
08:02 here for right now and I want to head down to the shelter
08:04 down here and I think we should eat some goldfish.
08:07 What do you think? - yeah - let's go kids come on.
08:12 Now if you remember I promised a treat of fish, I want
08:16 Rory, are you willing to swallow a goldfish for me?
08:20 Okay, open your mouth and close your eyes and you will get
08:26 a big surprise.
08:31 It's that kind of a goldfish, they're crackers.
08:33 All right you guys you can take your snack you must be
08:36 starving after all this time out in the woods.
08:38 Oh yeah those slugs kind of did it.
08:44 Do you want to hop down with yours?
08:46 Alright there you go.
08:51 Have a good snack there.
08:54 I just love grandma.
08:57 Hey guys do you want to play follow the leader? - yeah.
09:01 Alright and follow me as I do, are you ready?
09:03 Line up and let's go.
09:38 In the water whoa.
09:41 About face, about face.
09:51 Here we go again let's march.
09:54 Over hill over Dale we will hit the dusty trail.
09:57 Right here we will call it a halt, halt.
10:01 Ah we're having a blast out here, but you know what?
10:07 It's about time to go and before we do I want you guys to
10:09 have a chance to write down my address.
10:11 So if you are ready get a paper and a pencil and
10:15 here is, write it down.
10:18 Here we go come on forward. Hup, Hup, Hup.
10:26 Hey kids Graham Joyce would love to hear from you.
10:29 So why not sit down and write her a letter?
10:31 Like every grandma she loves to get pictures,
10:34 drawings or anything else you sent her.
10:37 Just write to:
10:49 So what are you waiting for? Write her today.
10:56 Know what, I'm going to let you in on a little secret.
10:59 The outing we had planned for today was actually supposed
11:02 to be a trip to the beach.
11:04 All of us were so looking forward to going there.
11:07 We were going to build sand castles and hunt for starfish
11:09 and sand dollars.
11:11 We had kites ready to fly and our swimsuits were ready.
11:14 It was a real disappointment when the skies turned gray
11:18 and rainy and we had to change our plans.
11:20 But I'm so grateful for my adaptive grandkids.
11:24 They were pretty sad when we couldn't go but they
11:28 cheerfully accepted a change of plans like real troopers.
11:31 We went out in the rain and had a fantastic time anyway.
11:35 I've got to warn you though, life is like that sometimes.
11:38 You know sometimes we get our hearts set on something
11:42 wonderful and then the unexpected
11:44 happens and changes everything.
11:46 Sometimes it's not too big a deal like having to make fun
11:49 in the rain instead of spending a day at the beach.
11:52 Other times it might be something really important.
11:56 All kinds of strange things can happen in our world and
11:59 its good to be ready for anything.
12:01 You know the Boy Scouts say, always be prepared!
12:05 God is like that, always prepared I mean.
12:09 He had such wonderful plans for our world when He first
12:13 created it, it was so beautiful and perfect back then.
12:16 And now we can hardly imagine what it was like in the very
12:20 beginning, but something awful happened
12:24 and changed everything.
12:25 In an instant we went from living and learning for ever
12:28 to just getting old and dying.
12:30 Oh, what a disappointment.
12:33 Well it broke God's heart to see His perfect plan ruined.
12:37 But He had another plan ready just in case He ever needed it.
12:41 And boy He needed it now.
12:42 God sent Jesus to rescue each one of us and
12:47 His lovely world from ruin.
12:49 Jesus made it possible for us to someday go back to the
12:52 beginning and start all over again with a brand-new Earth.
12:56 This time there won't be any devil to mess everything up.
12:59 We will have brand-new hearts like Jesus and
13:02 we will never mess up again.
13:05 But here is the thing you have to decide that, that is what
13:08 you want to do, and it is not always easy to follow the
13:12 pathway marked out in the Bible.
13:14 Well here's a hint that helps me over the rough spots when
13:18 I might be tempted to give up.
13:21 It's just a little bit of a song you probably know.
13:24 I've taken it from my very own and it goes like this:
13:27 I have decided to follow Jesus
13:32 I have decided to follow Jesus.
13:36 I have decided to follow Jesus!
13:40 no turning back, no turning back.
13:44 Why don't you try it the next time you're tempted and remember
13:48 I love you a bushel and a peck, a bushel and a peck
13:52 and a hug around the neck.
13:54 Doodle, doodle, doodle, doodle, doodle, doodle,
13:58 doodley, doodley do.
14:01 Did you know slugs have ity bity eyes and big antennas?
14:06 Singing in the rain, just singing in the rain.
14:09 I don't like slugs.
14:15 Oowe slimy
14:21 I don't know why the girls don't like me.
14:24 I hope their not leaches.
