00:02 Hello there, happy Sabbath. Come on in.
00:04 We're about to meet with the King.
00:51 Hello, I'm Aunty Cecily.
00:53 And I'm Aunty Nat.
00:54 We're so glad you have come back
00:56 to join us in our worship time.
00:58 Aunty Nat, do you have someone to say hello to today?
01:01 I sure do.
01:02 I'd like to say hello to Jireh in New Zealand.
01:06 Hello, Jireh. Hi, Jireh.
01:08 We miss having you here with us in our lounge room, Jireh.
01:11 Now, we can't forget to say hello to Teddy,
01:14 and we have Lilly visiting with us today too.
01:18 Do you know Lilly is Teddy's very best friend?
01:22 Hope you're nice and comfy there, you two.
01:25 Amber, would you like to say a prayer for us
01:27 to open our worship time together?
01:29 Yes.
01:31 Dear Father, we praise You
01:32 and thank You for bringing us safely through another week.
01:36 Thank You for the Sabbath day.
01:39 In Jesus' name, amen.
01:41 Amen. Amen.
01:42 That was beautiful. Thank you, Amber.
01:44 Do you remember what number key we're up to?
01:47 Number six.
01:49 Yes, it is.
01:50 Aunty Cecily, what have you got for us today?
01:53 Well, let's have a look at our gift box and find out.
01:56 Chemiah, would you like to open our gift box,
01:59 and tell us what our key to the kingdom says this week?
02:05 Follow Jesus. Follow Jesus.
02:07 And what does the text say on the other side of the tag?
02:12 1 Peter 2:21-22.
02:17 Thanks, Chemiah.
02:19 Abi, could you read that text to us
02:20 from the Bible please?
02:23 "For to this you were called,
02:25 because Christ also suffered for us,
02:27 leaving us an example,
02:29 that you should follow His steps:
02:31 'Who committed no sin,
02:33 Nor was deceit found in His mouth.'"
02:36 Thanks, Abi.
02:38 Jesus left us an example to follow.
02:41 We are to follow in His steps and should become like Him.
02:45 In fact, the word Christian means a follower of Christ.
02:49 Christ is another name for Jesus.
02:52 So we cannot be a Christian
02:54 unless we follow Christ's example of
02:56 how to live,
02:57 and to be a witness to others.
03:00 Being a follower of Jesus means to obey Him
03:03 because He says in John 14:15,
03:06 "If you love me, keep My commandments."
03:10 We'll avoid lots of trouble in our lives if we obey God.
03:14 Later, we're going to learn that when Solomon turned away
03:18 from following God, life got very messy,
03:21 and he brought a lot of unnecessary pain on himself
03:24 and heartache for others as well.
03:28 Now we cannot obey God on our own.
03:30 We need the Holy Spirit to give us a new heart,
03:33 so that we want to obey God's laws.
03:37 In Psalm 40:8, it says,
03:40 "I delight to do Your will, O my God,
03:43 and Your law is within my heart."
03:46 In Hebrews 10:16, this is God's promise,
03:50 "I will put My laws in their hearts,
03:53 and in their minds I will write them."
03:57 If we're to obey God,
03:59 we'll need to have God's laws written in our heart,
04:02 so that we'll want to do them.
04:04 That's the secret to following Jesus.
04:08 Abi, what's one way
04:09 you could follow Jesus' example?
04:11 Being kind to others.
04:13 Yes, that's one thing that Jesus did
04:16 that we can all do.
04:18 Do you know I have some other examples here,
04:20 of a boy who is helping his sister who can't walk.
04:23 So he's taking her for a ride out in the sunshine.
04:27 And we've got another boy,
04:29 he is showing his appreciation for mom
04:32 by taking her a flower and giving her a flower.
04:34 And we've got another boy,
04:37 he's following Jesus' example of just taking responsibility
04:40 for his own pet lamb.
04:43 And he cares for that lamb and feeds it each day.
04:46 So as we spend time with the King this Sabbath,
04:49 let's think about our sixth key to the kingdom,
04:52 and ask Jesus to help us to follow Him.
04:56 Thanks, Aunty Cecily.
04:57 We certainly are building up our keys to the kingdom.
05:00 I'm looking forward to finding out
05:02 what the seventh key will be next Sabbath.
05:04 We can see that Braedan has just snuck in the door.
05:08 Thanks, Braedan, for coming
05:09 and sharing your talent with us.
05:11 Thanks, Aunty Nat.
05:12 Hi, boys and girls, let's sing,
05:14 "We Will Gather to Meet with the King."
05:17 On Friday eve when the sun goes down
05:22 A special day of the week comes 'round
05:26 On Friday eve when the sun goes down
05:30 We will gather to meet with the King
05:34 On Friday eve when the sun goes down
05:38 When all of our work and our play is done
05:42 On Friday eve when the sun goes down
05:46 We will joyfully worship the King
05:51 Braedan, can we please sing,
05:53 "I Have Decided to Follow Jesus?"
05:55 We certainly can.
05:58 I have decided to follow Jesus
06:04 I have decided
06:07 To follow Jesus
06:09 I have decided to follow Jesus
06:15 No turning back, no turning back
06:20 The world behind me, the cross before me
06:25 The world behind me
06:28 The cross before me
06:30 The world behind me, the cross before me
06:36 No turning back No turning back
06:44 Braedan, can we please sing "Praise Him Praise Him?"
06:47 I love that song. Let's sing it together.
06:54 Praise Him, praise Him All ye little children
06:58 God is love, God is love
07:02 Praise Him, praise Him All ye little children
07:07 God is love, God is love
07:12 Serve Him, serve Him All ye little children
07:16 God is love, God is love
07:20 Serve Him, serve Him All ye little children
07:25 God is love, God is love.
07:29 Thanks, Braedan.
07:31 Singing praises to God
07:32 is such an enjoyable part of our worship.
07:35 And having stories
07:37 is an enjoyable part of our worship too,
07:39 isn't it?
07:40 And Dr. John has another story to share with us.
07:43 Let's go and listen.
07:45 Hello, boys and girls,
07:46 it's wonderful to be back here with you.
07:49 And I want to say
07:50 hello to all the boys and girls in England
07:52 because this story happened here
07:55 in England, many years ago.
07:57 And there was a little boy called Joseph.
08:00 Joseph Merrick born in the city of Leicester.
08:05 And unfortunately,
08:06 when he got through about five or six years of age,
08:10 and here is a painting of him,
08:12 he didn't look quite normal.
08:16 What's the problem here?
08:18 Yeah.
08:19 His lip started to grow,
08:21 top lip and bottom lip.
08:24 And it got worse and worse
08:26 until one day at school
08:28 one unkind kid said,
08:31 "Here's the elephant boy."
08:34 And for the rest of his life,
08:35 he was to be called the elephant boy.
08:38 He was so ugly,
08:40 he had to leave school and leave home.
08:43 And he joined the circus.
08:45 And they would put him in a tent with a big sign,
08:49 "Pay one penny and come and see the Elephant Man."
08:53 Do you think he was happy in his work?
08:56 He was so miserable
08:58 and he was abandoned.
09:00 They stole his money.
09:02 And he ended up in the waiting room
09:05 of a railway station,
09:07 sobbing and crying.
09:08 And a big crowd of people laughing and pointing,
09:13 "It's the Elephant Man."
09:15 And at that moment, a big tall gentleman walked in.
09:19 His name was Dr. Treves, Dr. Frederick Treves.
09:23 He said, "What's going on here?"
09:27 "It's the Elephant Man." They were all laughing.
09:29 He said, "This is not funny."
09:32 He didn't see a man with a long nose
09:34 and they've been chopping it off all the time,
09:36 kept on growing.
09:38 He saw a man who was desperately unhappy.
09:42 He had one of the rarest diseases
09:44 in the whole world
09:45 that didn't even have a name for it.
09:48 He said, "Come with me.
09:50 I will take you over to the hospital,
09:52 I will examine you.
09:53 I'll see if there's something we can do for you.
09:56 But better than that,
09:57 I got a room for you underneath in the basement,
10:01 and that will be your home.
10:04 And you can live there as long as you wish.
10:06 You know, he took him over to the hospital.
10:09 And he took some photographs.
10:13 He would have to be the ugliest person
10:17 you have ever seen.
10:19 He examined him closely.
10:22 And his whole body was disfigured.
10:26 He was okay on the left side,
10:27 but on the right side he was terrible.
10:30 Imagine if you were like that?
10:33 It would be dreadful.
10:35 Well, Joseph Merrick had one wish.
10:41 He only had one wish, and that was to see the queen.
10:45 The Queen, Princess Alexandra,
10:48 whose husband was the king of England.
10:51 And he knew he could never see her
10:53 because he was too ugly.
10:56 He went for a holiday one day, and he went to a country home,
11:00 and he was doing what he loved most,
11:02 he was kneeling down
11:04 and he was weeding the garden
11:05 amongst the beautiful flowers.
11:07 He was so concentrating on his work,
11:10 he didn't hear someone coming up behind,
11:12 until he saw the feet and he thought,
11:15 "Those are expensive shoes."
11:16 And he turned around.
11:19 And to his absolute amazement,
11:22 it was the queen.
11:24 You know what she did?
11:27 No one had ever done this, she reached out,
11:30 and she touched him.
11:33 And no one ever touched the Elephant Man.
11:35 He was so ugly, he had to wear a hat
11:38 whenever he went out in public.
11:40 And he was now
11:41 the happiest person in the world.
11:42 He lived in a hospital for a couple of years,
11:45 but he died one night
11:47 because he had to sit in a chair to sleep
11:49 because his head was too heavy.
11:52 And he decided to be a normal human being
11:54 and he slept in the bed,
11:56 and he suffocated during the night.
11:58 But, you know, that man, his wish was granted,
12:02 he saw the king and my biggest wish...
12:05 He didn't see the king, he saw the queen,
12:07 but my greatest wish is to see the King.
12:10 And our program is called A Day with the King.
12:15 And I think that's the cutest,
12:17 most wonderful name for a kids' program.
12:20 One day, we're going to change
12:23 that from a day with the King
12:24 to a million years with the King,
12:29 a trillion years with the King.
12:31 And we will live with Him forever.
12:33 In fact, when Jesus meets you,
12:35 He's gonna go for a walk with you.
12:37 And the Book of Revelation says,
12:39 He gonna give you a secret name
12:41 that you and He will be the only ones
12:43 who will know that name.
12:44 Are you looking forward to that?
12:46 I certainly am. Thank you, boys and girls.
12:49 Come on in and join us for our Bible study.
12:51 Don't forget to grab your Bible,
12:52 so you can follow along with us.
12:54 Erin, can you please say a prayer for us
12:56 before we commence our study?
12:58 Dear Father, please send us Your Holy Spirit
13:00 to help us understand
13:02 what we are reading in our Bibles.
13:04 May these words change our hearts,
13:06 in Jesus' name, amen.
13:08 Thanks, Erin.
13:09 Now, Mia,
13:10 what did we study about last Sabbath?
13:12 Solomon's temple.
13:13 Yes, he built it, didn't he with all that help
13:15 and all the workers?
13:17 And did God's presence fill the temple
13:18 after he dedicated it?
13:20 Yes, it did.
13:22 So today, we're going to look at the life of Solomon,
13:25 and what happened
13:26 that changed the course of history for the Israelites.
13:29 God appeared to Solomon for the second time
13:32 and we're now going to read about that.
13:33 Erin, can you please read 1 Kings 9:4, 5?
13:39 "Now if you walk before Me as your father David walked,
13:42 in integrity of heart and in uprightness,
13:46 to do according to all that I have commanded you,
13:49 and if you keep My statutes and My judgments,
13:53 then I will establish the throne of your kingdom
13:55 over Israel forever,
13:57 as I promised David your father, saying,
13:59 You shall not fail to have a man
14:01 on the throne of Israel."
14:03 Thanks, Erin.
14:04 So God reminded Solomon
14:06 just as He had reminded David and the leaders before him
14:09 that if he kept God's commandments,
14:11 then all would go well.
14:13 Caleb, can you please read 1 Kings 9:6, 7?
14:18 "But if you or your sons at all turn from following Me,
14:22 and do not keep My commandments and My statutes
14:24 which I have set before you,
14:26 but go and serve other gods and worship them,
14:29 then I will cut off Israel from the land
14:31 which I have given them,
14:33 and this house
14:34 which I have consecrated for My name
14:38 and I will cast out of My sight.
14:40 Israel will be a proverb
14:41 and a byword among all peoples."
14:44 Thanks, Caleb.
14:45 So God warned Solomon
14:47 that he was not to worship idols.
14:50 And if he did,
14:51 God would dispossess the Israelites from the land.
14:54 A very sobering thought.
14:56 Okay, let's see what happened with King Solomon's reign.
14:59 Bethany, can you please read 1 Kings 9:26-28?
15:05 "King Solomon also built a fleet of ships
15:08 at Ezion Geber,
15:10 which is near Elath on the shore of the Red Sea,
15:12 in the land of Edom.
15:14 When Hiram sent his servants with the fleet,
15:16 seamen who knew the sea,
15:17 to work with the servants of Solomon.
15:19 And they went to Ophir,
15:20 and acquired 420 talents of gold from there,
15:25 and brought it to the King Solomon."
15:26 Okay, we're going to have a look at our map now
15:29 and show you where Elath is,
15:30 which is at the bottom of Israel there.
15:32 That's where Solomon's ships were,
15:35 and they would make their way down the Red Sea.
15:38 And we have some black dots there on the map
15:40 because we're not sure where Ophir was.
15:43 There's a couple of black dots.
15:45 There's one Saudi Arabia, one down there in Ethiopia,
15:47 one at Yemen, they say, one at Oman, and they say,
15:51 it could have even been India,
15:52 or down further the coast of Africa.
15:55 So we're not sure where Ophir is.
15:56 But that is where,
15:59 that Solomon got his gold from.
16:02 Now, 420 talents of gold
16:06 are worth hundreds of millions of dollars today.
16:09 So it's a lot of gold, isn't it?
16:12 As well as wise, Solomon was a very rich man.
16:16 Okay, Sophie, can you please read 1 Kings 10:1-3.
16:20 "Now when the queen of Sheba heard of the fame of Solomon
16:23 concerning the name of the Lord,
16:25 she came to test him with hard questions.
16:27 She came to Jerusalem with a very great retinue,
16:30 with camels that bore spices, very much gold,
16:33 and precious stones.
16:35 And when she came to Solomon,
16:36 she spoke with him
16:38 about all that was in her heart.
16:40 So Solomon answered all her questions,
16:42 there was nothing so difficult for the king
16:44 that he could not explain it to her."
16:47 Thanks, Sophie.
16:48 Now again, where Queen of Sheba was from
16:50 was also a bit of a mystery.
16:52 Some say that she came from the area of Yemen,
16:55 and some say the area of Ethiopia.
16:59 We're not really sure,
17:00 but it was somewhere down there.
17:02 But wherever she came from,
17:03 she traveled a great distance to hear the Wisdom of Solomon.
17:07 Abigail, can you please read 1 Kings 10:6-7, 9?
17:12 "Then she said to the king,
17:14 'It was a true report which I heard in my own land
17:17 about your words and your wisdom.
17:19 However I did not believe the words
17:21 until I came and saw with my own eyes.
17:23 And indeed the half was not told me.
17:26 Your wisdom and prosperity
17:27 exceed the fame of which I heard.
17:31 Blessed be the Lord your God, who delighted in you,
17:34 setting you on the throne of Israel
17:37 because the Lord has loved Israel forever,
17:40 therefore He made you king,
17:41 to do justice and righteousness."
17:43 Thanks, Abi.
17:45 The Queen of Sheba realized
17:46 that God was the giver of Solomon's riches and wisdom
17:49 and this caused her to praise God.
17:52 It was at this time of Solomon's life
17:54 that he acknowledged God in everything,
17:57 and pointed everyone to the goodness
17:59 and greatness of God.
18:01 It was God's purpose
18:02 that the Israelite kingdom
18:04 would be a spectacle to the world,
18:06 shining God's character,
18:08 and leading them into a relationship with God.
18:11 Okay, Mia, can you please read 1 Kings 10:10?
18:15 "Then she gave the king
18:17 one hundred and twenty talents of gold,
18:19 spices in great quantity, and precious stones.
18:23 There never again came such abundance of spices
18:27 as the queen of Sheba gave to King Solomon."
18:30 Thanks, Mia.
18:32 That was some pretty amazing gifts that she gave.
18:35 Do you know what spices back then
18:36 were very precious and worth a lot of money?
18:39 Aunty Cecily, can you please read 1 Kings 10:14-15?
18:44 "The weight of gold that came to Solomon yearly
18:48 was 666 talents of gold,
18:51 besides that from the traveling merchants,
18:54 from the income of traders, from all the kings of Arabia,
18:59 and from the governors of the country."
19:02 So one talent of gold is about 33 kilos
19:06 in our measurement today
19:08 and remember the bricks
19:09 that we had on the table a few Sabbaths ago
19:11 all covered in gold,
19:13 remember that's one talent.
19:15 Okay, so 660 talents of gold in today's prices
19:19 are worth over $1 billion.
19:22 King Solomon received that on a yearly basis.
19:26 Besides what his merchants brought in on the ships.
19:30 Verse 23 tells us that King Solomon
19:33 was one of the richest kings of the then known world.
19:37 But something happened that turned him away from God.
19:41 Erin, can you please read 1 Kings 11: 1-3?
19:45 "But King Solomon loved many foreign women,
19:49 as well as the daughter of Pharaoh:
19:51 women from the Moabites, Ammonites,
19:55 Edomites, Sidonians, and Hittites.
19:57 From the nations of whom the Lord had said
20:00 to the children of Israel,
20:02 'You shall not intermarry with them, nor they with you.
20:05 Surely they will turn away your hearts after their gods.'
20:09 Solomon clung to these in love.
20:12 And he had seven hundred wives, princesses,
20:14 and three hundred concubines,
20:17 and his wives turned away his heart."
20:20 Oh, dear.
20:21 So God had warned the Israelites
20:23 not to intermarry,
20:24 meaning not to marry someone who doesn't believe in God.
20:28 As God knew,
20:29 if they did, their hearts would be turned away from Him.
20:33 Now how many wives does a man supposed to have?
20:36 One. One.
20:37 How many did Solomon have?
20:39 Seven hundred.
20:40 He had 700, far too many wives.
20:43 Caleb, can you please read 1 Kings 11:6-8?
20:48 "Solomon did evil in the sight of the Lord,
20:51 and did not fully follow the Lord,
20:53 as did his father David.
20:55 Then Solomon built a high place for Chemosh
20:58 the abomination of Moab,
21:00 on the hill that is east of Jerusalem,
21:02 and for Molech the abomination of the people of Ammon.
21:07 And he did likewise for all his foreign wives,
21:10 who burned incense and sacrificed to their gods."
21:14 So was Solomon keeping God's commandments?
21:17 No.
21:18 No, he was worshiping the idols and gods of his foreign wives.
21:22 Let's see what God says.
21:23 Bethany, can you please read 1 Kings 11:11-13?
21:28 "Therefore the Lord said to Solomon,
21:30 'Because you have done this, and have not kept My covenant
21:33 and My statutes, which I have commanded you,
21:35 I will surely tear the kingdom away from you
21:37 and give it to your servant.
21:39 Nevertheless I will do it in your days,
21:42 for the sake of your father David
21:43 I will tear it out of the hand of your son.
21:46 However I will not tear away the whole kingdom,
21:48 I will give one tribe to your son
21:50 for the sake of My servant David,
21:52 and for the sake of Jerusalem which I have chosen."
21:55 Thanks, Bethany.
21:56 Because of the sin that Solomon had committed,
21:58 God was going to end Solomon's magnificent kingdom
22:02 and tear it apart
22:03 during the reign of his children.
22:06 This was Solomon's wake up call,
22:08 and he repented
22:09 and he returned his heart to God.
22:11 Let's have a look at this in our torchlight,
22:14 Mrs. White's writings.
22:17 "Though the king confessed his sin
22:19 and wrote out for the benefit of after generations
22:23 a record of his folly and repentance,
22:26 he could never hope entirely
22:28 to destroy the baleful influence
22:31 of his wrong deeds."
22:33 Thanks.
22:34 So Solomon wrote the Book of Ecclesiastes,
22:37 as a warning against the folly of sin.
22:40 Solomon wanted to let people know
22:42 that happiness does not come through wealth and power,
22:47 but through having a relationship with God
22:49 and surrendering our hearts to Him.
22:52 Let's have a look at that.
22:53 Let's go to our memory verse in Ecclesiastes 12:13.
22:59 "Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter,
23:03 fear God and keep His commandments,
23:06 for this is man's all."
23:09 So the story of Solomon is something
23:11 that we can all learn from.
23:14 Thank you, boys and girls, for reading along with us.

24:03 so you get to know Jesus.
24:05 The more we get to know Jesus,
24:07 the more of a friend He becomes to us.
24:10 Aunty Nat, can you tell us
24:11 what we're going to learn about next week?
24:13 Sure, I'd love to.
24:14 Next Sabbath we are gonna study about
24:16 what happened to the kingdom of Solomon.
24:19 And we're going to look
24:20 at the life of an amazing prophet.
24:22 Make sure you come back next Sabbath
24:24 to find out more
24:26 Aunty Cecily, shall we go over our memory verse
24:28 that we learned in our Bible study today?
24:29 Yes.
24:31 Ready to say it all together, children?
24:32 Ecclesiastes 12:13,
24:36 "Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter.
24:40 Fear God and keep His commandments,
24:43 for this is man's all."
24:46 Abi, we've come to the end of another worship time.
24:49 What did you learn from the King today?
24:51 That having lots and lots of money
24:52 doesn't make you happy.
24:54 Yes.
24:55 That's what Solomon eventually found out.
24:57 What did Solomon recommend instead?
24:59 Surrender your heart to God and do things God's way.
25:02 Yes.
25:03 The whole Book of Ecclesiastes tell us,
25:05 tells us about that.
25:06 Aunty Cecily, are we ready to sing
25:08 our blessing song to the children at home?
25:10 Yes, let's turn around
25:12 and sing to the boys and girls at home.
25:20 May God bless you and keep you
25:25 And fill your heart with love
25:30 May God guide and protect you
25:35 And watch you from above
25:40 And Sabbath after Sabbath
25:46 We greet the day of rest
25:51 The day the King of glory
25:56 Has sanctified and blessed
26:01 Goodbye my friend till we meet again
26:06 For another day with the King
26:12 Goodbye!
26:13 See you next Sabbath!
26:21 My favorite story in the Bible was Noah's Ark
26:24 because he obeyed God
26:26 and all the animals were saved in the ark.
26:31 My favorite story in the Bible is about the 12 spies
26:33 and how Caleb and Joshua
26:35 stood up in front of everybody.
26:40 My favorite story in the Bible
26:42 is Mary and Joseph and baby Jesus
26:44 'cause He's the Savior of the world.
