00:01 Hello there! Happy Sabbath!
00:03 Come on in, we're about to meet with the king. 00:51 Hello, I'm Aunty Cecily, and I'm Aunty Nat. 00:55 and we're so glad you've decided 00:57 to join us all for worship. 00:58 Aunty Nat, we have children who have been watching 01:01 us from all sorts of different places. 01:03 Who would you like to say "hello" to today? 01:06 I would like to say "hello" to someone I met at Big Camp. 01:09 I'd like to say hello to Matthew from New South Wales. 01:12 "Hello Matthew!" 01:14 We hope you're feeling God's blessing 01:16 as you join us week by week. 01:18 We also have Teddy to say hello to, "Hello Teddy." 01:22 I think he's just sort of cleaning himself 01:25 a little bit there ready for Sabbath. 01:27 Aunty Nat, would you like to say a prayer to 01:30 open our worship time together? Sure. 01:32 I'd love to. 01:33 Dearest Heavenly Father... We just thank and praise 01:35 Your name that we're here for the Sabbath to worship You. 01:38 We thank You, Lord, for the children here and the 01:41 children watching us at home. 01:42 We ask, Lord, a wonderful blessing on them. 01:45 We thank You for keeping us safe this week. 01:47 In Jesus name... Amen, Amen. 01:50 Aunty Cecily, what's in the box? 01:53 Oh, would you like to have a look in our gift box 01:56 and tell us what key to the Kingdom we have this week? 02:01 What does it say? 02:04 "Give your heart to Jesus." 02:06 And what's the text on the other side of the tag? 02:09 Luke 14:33. Thanks Joelle! 02:13 Bethany, would you like to read that text for us 02:15 from the Bible? Sure. 02:17 "So likewise, whoever of you does not forsake 02:20 all that he has, cannot be My disciple." Thanks Bethany. 02:25 Giving our heart to Jesus means not holding anything back. 02:29 That's why God says, "We have to forsake all to follow Him." 02:33 It doesn't mean God wants to make our lives unhappy; 02:37 in fact, it's quite the opposite. 02:39 Mrs. White, in the book, "Steps to Christ," says 02:42 that God doesn't require us to give up anything that 02:46 in our best interest to retain. 02:48 Often when we give everything to God, He can give 02:52 things back to us because He can trust us to use them 02:56 wisely in His service. 02:58 Later in our lesson, we'll see this in Solomon's life. 03:03 Solomon gave his life to God and chose wisdom 03:06 rather than riches, but God gave Solomon 03:10 wisdom and riches as well. 03:12 When we give ourselves completely to God, 03:15 He can trust us with things that might normally corrupt us. 03:19 God wants our heart. 03:21 In Jeremiah 29:13 it says, "And you will seek Me 03:26 and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart." 03:30 Now how can we give our hearts and lives fully to God? 03:34 Remember when we discussed "repentance" in Acts 2:37, 03:38 and Peter's answer to the question, "What shall we do?" 03:42 Peter responded, "Repent and be baptized every one of you." 03:48 So a public way of giving our hearts to God 03:51 is to be baptized. 03:54 Bethany, what did your baptism mean to you? 03:58 Well, it was my way of showing everyone around me that 04:01 I wanted to follow Jesus, so I got baptized. 04:03 Aw, that's wonderful Bethany! 04:06 So if God is speaking to your heart and you haven't 04:10 been baptized, think about it and pray and ask God 04:15 to guide you in this important step. 04:17 So as we spend time with the King this Sabbath, 04:20 let's ask God to make you willing to give your heart 04:24 to Him without holding anything back. 04:27 That's beautiful Aunty Cecily, thank you 04:29 for sharing that with us. 04:30 God really wants us to give our hearts to Him. 04:34 I can see that Braedan is here. 04:37 Thank you Braedan for coming so faithfully every week 04:40 and sharing your musical talent with us. Thanks Aunty Nat. 04:43 Hi boys and girls, let's sing some songs! 04:46 "Oh Friend Do You Love Jesus?" 06:04 Braedan, can we please sing "Wide, Wide as the Ocean?" 06:06 We certainly can. 07:10 Braedan, can we please sing "Shine Just Where You are?" 07:13 That's a great song, let's sing it together. 07:54 Thanks Braedan, we sang some of my favorite songs today. 07:58 And who is going to join us next for a story? Dr. John! 08:02 Yes, let's find out what Dr. John has for us this week. 08:07 Hello boys and girls, it's wonderful to be 08:10 back together again, and a special welcome 08:13 to the boys and girls in South Australia in the city of 08:16 Adelaide where this true story happened. 08:20 And it was about a little girl called "Sally," 08:24 and she wanted a budgie. 08:26 Let me tell you a secret... 08:29 Now your mums and dads might not want you to have a 08:33 budgie, but I'll tell you how to get one. 08:35 You go to mummy and daddy; on the first day you say, 08:39 "Can I have a horse?" They'll say, "No." 08:43 On the second day, "Can I have a horse?" 08:46 Third, fourth, fifth, sixth day, "Can I please have a horse?" 08:50 "No, no, no, no, no and on the seventh day, you say, 08:53 "Can I have a budgie?" They'll say, "Yes." 08:56 They'll be so relieved they're not getting a horse! 09:00 And she got a budgie, little Sally and her mother said, 09:05 "You can have this budgie as long as you promise me 09:08 you will look after it." 09:09 "Oh yes, mommy, I'll look after my budgie," 09:11 and she was so faithful for two weeks. 09:16 And then not always was her cage cleaned out, 09:21 and poor little "Chippy" was a bit ignored and one day 09:24 mum said, "Sally, you're not going anywhere 09:28 until you clean the cage." 09:30 So Sally thought, "I'm in a hurry, I'm going to use 09:34 a vacuum cleaner." 09:36 Now let me tell you what happened! 09:40 Because she had the vacuum cleaner, she turned it on, 09:44 and I'm not turning it on yet because of the noise, 09:47 and just as she turned it on, her phone rang 09:51 and she was distracted. 09:53 Vacuum cleaners, mobile phones and budgies 09:56 are not a very good mix. 09:59 And so... and I'll try not to make it go for too long... 10:04 She was vacuuming and she was looking the other way 10:07 and not paying attention... 10:13 OH! OH! 10:18 Where's Chippy? 10:20 Well, we better get Chippy out real fast. 10:25 And she opened the vacuum cleaner and there was 10:28 poor little Chippy, oh he was dirty, he was dazed. 10:33 OH, mommy is going to be angry! 10:35 So she got a bowl of water and she put him in 10:38 and gave him a bath and then he was looking very bedraggled. 10:43 So she got mommy's hair dryer... 10:51 And poor little Chippy, he was still alive, 10:57 he was in deep shock because a vacuum had come 11:03 into his life; he had fallen into a black hole; 11:06 he was totally shocked and gave him back to his owner, 11:13 in this case it was not Sally and you look 11:16 after poor little budgie. 11:18 You know, the newspaper people heard about this story, 11:22 and they came to the house and Sally's mommy was there, 11:27 and they said, "How is Chippy?" 11:32 And she gave an answer which I thought was quite remarkable. 11:36 She said, "Chippy is alright, he spends a lot of time just 11:42 looking out the window, but he has lost his song. 11:48 He no longer sings, he sang all the time." 11:52 And kids, this reminds me of the children of Israel... 11:57 because they disobeyed God, God allowed them to be taken 12:02 into captivity right across to Babylon. 12:05 And there is a text in the Bible that says, "The people who 12:09 captured them said, "We want you to sing - we hear that you 12:12 sing very well; please sing for us." 12:15 But you know, they hung their harps on a tree down 12:20 by the rivers of Babylon and the Bible tells us 12:24 that they couldn't sing because they had disobeyed God, 12:30 and they had been punished. 12:32 Now Chippy didn't do anything wrong but he had a big shock 12:36 and it took him a long, long time to learn to sing again. 12:41 And you know, we need to sing, we are told that when we 12:45 meet Jesus, we'll sing a beautiful song about Moses 12:49 and the Lamb because Moses was a faithful prophet of God. 12:52 And we will sing, even when you are hurt, even when 12:57 you are frightened, if you follow God, please 13:01 don't stop singing about Him. 13:04 Singing means your heart is happy. 13:07 And I love that story, thank you boys and girls. 13:10 Hi boys and girls, welcome to our Bible study. 13:12 If you haven't got your Bibles ready yet, go get them now 13:15 so you can follow along with us. 13:16 Sophie, can you please say a prayer 13:18 for us before we start our Bible study. 13:20 Dear Father... Help us to understand what we read 13:23 in our Bibles today. 13:24 Help us give our hearts to You. 13:26 We ask that You please be especially with the children 13:30 at home and bless them this day. 13:34 In Jesus name... Amen, Amen. Thank you Sophie. 13:37 Matthew, can you remember what we studied about last Sabbath? 13:40 David's children. Yes. 13:42 It was a bit of a mess wasn't it? 13:44 Well today we're going to look at the life of David's son, 13:50 Solomon, who was chosen to be the next king. 13:54 Let's go to 1 Chronicles and see what David 13:57 said to his son, Solomon. 13:58 Erin, can you please read 1 Chronicles 28:11 and 19-20. 14:04 "Then David gave his son Solomon the plans for the 14:07 vestibule, its houses, its treasuries, its upper chambers, 14:11 its inner chambers, and the place of the mercy seat..." 14:15 "All this, said David, the Lord made me understand in writing 14:20 by His hand upon me, all the works of these plans. 14:23 And David said to his son Solomon, "Be strong and of 14:27 good courage, and do it; do not fear nor be dismayed, 14:31 for the Lord God, my God, will be with you. 14:35 He will not leave you nor forsake you, 14:37 until you have finished all the work for the service 14:40 of the house of the Lord." Thanks Erin. 14:42 So David encouraged his son to be strong and courageous, 14:46 and be faithful to God. 14:49 David had prepared all the plans for the building of 14:51 the temple in which were written under the inspiration of God. 14:55 Let's see what else David had prepared. 14:57 Caleb, can you read 1 Chronicles 29:3-4. 15:02 "Moreover because I have set my affection on the house 15:06 of my God, I have given to the house of my God, 15:09 over and above all that I have prepared for the holy 15:12 house, my own special treasure of gold and silver; 15:16 3,000 talents of gold, of the gold of Ophir, 15:20 and the 7,000 talents of refined silver to overlay 15:24 the walls of the houses; 15:26 Wow, that was a lot of gold that David gave! 15:28 A talent was a measurement of weight that was used back then. 15:33 A talent in today's measurement is about 33 kilos, 15:37 and if you have a look on our table there, 15:40 we have a brick that's been spray-painted with gold, 15:44 and it's exactly 33 kilos. 15:47 So that brick, that you see there, is a talent, 15:50 but there is something very special 15:52 sitting on top of that brick, it's real gold. 15:55 Some has brought that in to show us and that is beautiful, 15:58 so that is a real gold nugget 16:00 sitting there to - give you an idea. 16:02 Alright, Abigail can you read 1 Chronicles 29:6-7. 16:08 "Then the leaders of the fathers' houses, 16:10 leaders of the tribes of Israel, the captains of thousands 16:13 and of hundreds, with the officers over the king's 16:18 work, offered willingly. 16:19 They gave for the work of the house of God 5,000 talents 16:25 and 10,000 darics of gold, 10,000 thousand 16:30 talents of silver, 18,000 talents of bronze, 16:34 and 100,000 talents of iron." 16:37 Wow, David made an appeal to his people and they 16:40 donated precious materials with a joyful heart. 16:43 They gave an extra 5,000 talents of gold and add to that 16:47 the 3,000 talents already gave, they had 8,000 talents of gold. 16:53 That amount in today's value is around about 14 billion 16:57 Australian dollars' worth of gold - that's a lot of gold! 17:01 Let's go back to 1 Kings. 17:02 Sophie, can you please read that for us. 17:05 1 Kings 2:10-12, please. 17:10 "So David rested with his fathers and was buried 17:13 in the City of David. 17:15 The period that David reigned over Israel was 40 years. 17:18 Seven years he reigned in Hebron and in Jerusalem 17:22 he reigned 33 years. 17:24 Then Solomon sat on the throne of his father David, 17:28 and his kingdom was firmly established." 17:31 So David died - do you know what, we have been through 17:34 an amazing journey with David, learning about him. 17:37 He lived an extraordinary life! 17:40 Okay, so we're now going back to 2 Chronicles, 17:44 and Matthew, you're going to read 2 Chronicles 1:3 and 6. 17:51 "Then Solomon, and all the assembly with him 17:54 went to the high place that was Gibeon; for the tabernacle 17:58 of meeting with God was there, which Moses the 18:01 servant of the Lord had made in the wilderness. 18:04 And Solomon went up there to the bronze altar before the 18:08 Lord, which was at the tabernacle of meeting, 18:11 and offered a thousand burnt offerings on it." 18:15 Thanks Matthew, that was well read. 18:17 Solomon at the beginning of his reign decided to go with 18:20 all the leaders of Israel to the 18:22 original tabernacle at Gibeon. 18:24 Let's see what happened next. 18:26 Mia, can you read 2 Chronicles 1:7-8 and 10, please. 18:31 "On that night God appeared to Solomon, and said to him, 18:34 "Ask what shall I give you?" 18:37 And Solomon said to God: "You have shown great mercy 18:41 to David my father, and have made me king in his place. 18:47 Now give me wisdom and knowledge that I may go out 18:53 and come in before this people; for who can judge this 19:00 great people of Yours?" 19:02 Wow, so this is one of the first occasions that God came 19:06 to Solomon and what was it that Solomon asked for? 19:09 Wisdom, yes. 19:11 Okay Aunty Cecily, can you read 2 Chronicles 1:11-12. 19:16 "Then God said to Solomon, "Because this was in your 19:20 heart, and you have not asked riches or wealth or honor 19:24 or the life of your enemies, nor have you asked long life, 19:29 but have asked wisdom and knowledge for yourself 19:32 that you may judge My people 19:35 over whom I have made you king; wisdom and 19:38 knowledge are granted to you and I will give you riches 19:43 and wealth and honor such as none of the kings have had 19:47 who were before you, nor shall any after you have the like." 19:52 Wow, so God was happy because Solomon did not ask for wealth, 19:56 but asked for wisdom instead and because of this, 19:59 God blessed him with both wealth and wisdom. 20:03 Let's go back to 1 Kings 3, now during these times 20:09 there were no courthouses of lawyers. 20:11 If you had a problem, you went to see the king. 20:14 So here we have case of two women who have both 20:16 recently had a baby and lived in the same house. 20:20 One night one of the babies died and the mother 20:23 switched her dead baby with the live one, while the 20:27 other mother slept. 20:28 Let's see what happened when this mother woke up. 20:31 Erin, can you read 1 Kings 3:21-22. 20:35 "And when I rose in the morning to nurse my son, 20:39 there he was, dead. 20:40 But when I had examined him in the morning, indeed, 20:43 he was not my son whom I had borne. 20:45 Then the other woman said, "No, but the living one is 20:50 my son and the dead one is your son." 20:52 And the first woman said, "No, but the dead one is 20:55 your son and the living one is my son." 20:58 Thus they spoke before the king." 21:00 So they're arguing over whom the dead son belonged to. 21:03 Let's find out what King Solomon does. 21:05 Caleb, can you read 1 Kings 3:24-25. 21:12 "Then the king said, "Bring me a sword." 21:14 So they brought a sword before the king and the king said, 21:17 "Divide the living child in two, and give half to one, 21:20 and half to the other." 21:22 Wow! Abigail, can you read 1 Kings 3:26-27. 21:28 "Then the woman whose son was living spoke to the king, 21:32 for she yearned with compassion for her son; 21:37 and she said, "O my lord, give her the living child, 21:40 and by no means kill him." 21:43 But the other said, "Let him be neither mine nor yours, 21:47 but divide him." 21:48 "So the king answered and said, "Give the first woman 21:51 the living child and by no means kill him, she is his mother." 21:57 So the real mother didn't want her baby to be killed, 21:59 and to save him, she was willing to give him up 22:02 and give him to the other woman. 22:05 King Solomon recognized this and gave the mother her baby back. 22:09 After this, all Israel recognized the wise 22:12 judgments of Solomon. 22:14 Let's go over to our memory verse in James 1:5, 22:17 and let's read it together. 22:18 And for the children at home, James is found 22:21 in the New Testament. 22:22 Okay, let's read that... 22:36 If we pray to God and ask for wisdom like King Solomon, 22:40 God will grant us wisdom as well. 22:44 What an amazing promise! 22:45 Sophie, can you please read our 22:47 last verse in 1 Kings 4:29-30 and 34. 22:53 "And God gave Solomon wisdom and exceedingly great 22:57 understanding and largeness of heart like the sand 23:00 on the seashore. 23:01 Thus Solomon's wisdom excelled the wisdom of 23:05 all the men of the east and all the wisdom of Egypt. 23:09 And men of all nations from all the kings of the 23:12 earth who had heard of his wisdom came to hear the 23:16 wisdom of Solomon." Thanks Sophie. 23:19 God really did answer Solomon's prayer. 23:21 Let's look at our torch light, Mrs. White's writings 23:24 to see what they shine on these verses. 23:27 Mia, can you please read that for us. 23:29 "The name of Jehovah was greatly honored during 23:32 the first part of Solomon's reign. 23:35 The wisdom and righteousness revealed by the king 23:38 bore witness to all nations of the excellency 23:42 of the attributes of God whom he served. 23:46 For a time, Israel was as a light of the world 23:51 showing forth the greatness of Jehovah." 23:53 Wow, so Solomon's wisdom was always to glorify God. 23:59 Thank you boys and girls for reading along with us. 24:02 We have a devotional available that goes into 24:04 more depth than what we studied today. 24:06 Here's how you can get that... 24:08 Hey boys and girls, as Aunty Nat said, 24:10 you can get your own devotionals. 24:11 Yes, you can download them free from our website at: 24:15 And Anna, we can't forget to tell the kids to 24:18 checkout Teddy's blog. 24:19 We have some behind the scenes photos of filming the program. 24:22 Yes, and we also have some photos of Teddy going on 24:25 his annual visit to the vet. 24:26 We love to hear where in the 24:28 world you are watching the program from, 24:30 so drop us a line and let us know. 24:31 Get a pen and write down our email address now: 24:34 dwk@3ABNaustralia.org.au 24:38 So hop on line today! 24:40 Thanks Kate and Dana! 24:42 Yes, we'd love to hear from you. 24:45 Auntie Nat, what are we going to learn about next week? 24:47 Sure, yes, next week - next Sabbath, we are going to 24:51 study about a very special building 24:53 that King Solomon built. 24:55 Have a look in your Bibles and see if you can work it out. 24:57 Aunty Cecily, can we go over our memory verse 25:00 that we learnt in our Bible study today? Yes. 25:02 Would you like to say that all together? James 1:5... 25:20 Guess what kids? 25:22 We've come to the end of another worship time and it's 25:24 gone so quickly today! 25:26 Bethany, what did you learn about the king today? 25:29 That we pray for wisdom just like King Solomon did. 25:31 Yes, we sure can and it's a prayer God loves to answer. 25:36 Auntie Cecily, do you think we're ready 25:37 to sing our goodbye song? 25:39 I do, would you like to turn around and sing 25:41 to the boys and girls at home? 25:49 May God bless you and keep you and fill your 25:56 heart with love. 25:59 May God guide and protect you 26:04 and watch you from above. 26:10 As Sabbath after Sabbath 26:15 we greet the Day of Rest, 26:20 The day the King of Glory 26:25 has sanctified and blessed. 26:30 Goodbye my friend, till we meet again 26:35 for another day with the King. 26:41 Goodbye! Goodbye! See you next Sabbath! 26:50 My favorite story in the Bible is Noah's Ark 26:54 because he obeyed God, 26:56 and all the animals were saved in the ark. 27:00 My favorite story in the Bible is about the 12 spies, 27:03 and how Caleb and Joshua stood up in front of everybody. 27:09 My favorite story in the Bible is Mary and Joseph 27:13 and Baby Jesus because He is the Savior of the world. |
