00:01 Hello there and Happy Sabbath.
00:04 Come on in. We're about to meet with the King.
00:07 ¤ ¤
00:55 Good day. I'm Auntie Nat.
00:57 And I'm Auntie Cecily.
00:58 We're so glad that you've decided to join us in our
01:00 worship time together to welcome in the Sabbath aren't
01:03 we kids. Yes. Auntie Cecily. I know you want to say a big hello
01:07 to someone who's been watching the program.
01:10 Yes, I want to say a big hello to Sarah from Queensland.
01:13 Hello Sarah. Hello Sarah. Hi.
01:16 We also can't forget to say hello to Teddy. Teddy is so
01:21 wonderful to have you back on the couch with us again. Auntie
01:24 Cecily would you like to say a prayer for us please before we
01:27 open our worship time together.
01:29 Yes. Let's bow our heads. Dear Father in heaven, we thank you
01:33 so much for keeping us safe during the past week. And we
01:36 thank you so much for the Sabbath and we pray that you
01:40 would be with us now as we worship you.
01:42 In Jesus' name. Amen.
01:44 Amen. Thanks Auntie Cecily. Did you have a good week this week?
01:48 I did. I had a rather busy week but I'm really glad it's the
01:51 Sabbath and I really enjoy the Sabbath day's rest.
01:54 Aw yes. I'm so grateful that the Sabbath has arrived because we
01:58 can rest from our busy week. Do you know that Sabbath is a time
02:01 that we can be a blessing to others to share Jesus' love.
02:05 We have a blessing box here and I'm going to get Ben to open the
02:10 box and pull out a blessing that we can do for someone this
02:13 Sabbath.
02:16 Invite a visitor from church or a friend home for lunch.
02:20 Wow. So that's the blessing of hospitality. Do you sometimes
02:24 have people home at lunch at your place? What's your favorite
02:27 food you like to eat on Sabbath for lunch? Ben.
02:30 Definitely haystacks.
02:32 That sounds wonderful Ben. Haystacks is my favorite as well
02:35 but how much more wonderful to share that with someone else.
02:38 Boys and Girls, have you shared a meal with someone recently
02:41 to show how much Jesus loves them. If you have, we would love
02:45 to hear from you so we can share the blessing here with the
02:49 children. Our contact address is
02:50 on the screen. www. adaywiththeking. com
02:51 Quick, write it down.
02:53 dwk@3abnaustralia. org. ua
02:55 Um Cecily, I know that you have a blessing to share
02:57 with us as well.
02:58 Yes. Today I want to talk with you about the promised land.
03:00 Later in our Bible study we'll
03:02 read how the children of Israel
03:04 finally entered the promised land, the land of Canaan. God
03:09 kept His promise to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. But do you know
03:14 that God has also prepared a promised land for us.
03:18 It's called heaven. There are promises in the Bible that tell
03:22 us about this. Here's a beautiful passage found in the
03:26 Bible in John 14:1-3. Jesus is speaking these words. He says:
03:32 Let not your heart be troubled. You believe in God, believe also
03:37 in me. In my Father's house are many mansions. If it were not so
03:43 I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you and if I
03:48 go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive
03:53 you to myself that where I am there you may be also. These
03:59 promises give us great hope and comfort. So remember to believe
04:03 in God's promises.
04:05 Amen. Thanks Auntie Cecily. God is so good. I can't wait to get
04:10 to the heavenly promised land. Oh hello Pastor Rick. It's great
04:14 that you've come to join us in praising God in song. You're
04:18 such a blessing to us.
04:19 It's lovely to be here again.
04:21 And it's just so special to be
04:22 here on Sabbath and to sing songs to Jesus which is really
04:26 special. I've got a special song called We Gather to Meet With
04:29 the King. Can we sing this one together? Yes.
04:30 All right. ¤ ¤
05:12 Pastor Rick can we sing God Is My Best Friend?
05:16 That's a lovely song Caleb. Let's sing it together.
06:18 Pastor Rick can we please sing On Jordan's Stormy Banks?
06:21 Yes we can because it's a beautiful song.
07:05 Thanks Pastor Rick. It's so good to praise God in song.
07:11 Guess what. Dr. John's back with some more wonderful stories
07:15 for us. We learn so much from his stories don't we? So let's
07:19 go and join him in his study.
07:22 Hello boys and girls. My name is Dr. John Hammond and welcome
07:26 to my study. And all the boys and girls around the world, I'm
07:31 so glad that you can join us. You know, my name is John and
07:35 my middle name is Gilbert and I am John G. and I'm named after
07:41 this man. He's got more whiskers than I've got. But his name is
07:47 in my family's name. My mother's name was Ollie Peyton Duff Howey
07:54 and John G. Peyton was a famous missionary. He was just a little
08:01 boy in Scotland and he wanted to be a missionary and he put
08:05 his hand up and he said, I will go anywhere that God wants me
08:09 to go. And they looked at him and they said, Would you like
08:13 to go to the New Hebrides. That's what we call Vanuatu
08:18 these days and the New Hebrides was a very, very dangerous place
08:24 It was terrible. And he got married and he got on board a
08:28 boat that took him four months to get to the Island of Tanna
08:34 and he was scared because there were cannibals. Now what does a
08:39 cannibal do that we don't do? Eat people? Eats people.
08:46 And when he landed he could hear them all yelling and screaming
08:50 and carrying on. He was so scared. During the night he
08:55 could hear fighting and yelling. In the morning, he opened his
08:59 trunk and he'd come all the way from Scotland. You know what
09:05 Scottish people like to bring? He had brought with him a tea
09:10 pot and he said to his servant I would like some water for my tea
09:16 pot. Could you go and get it? And he went down to the spring
09:19 and he got some water and he came back and he looked very
09:23 sad and he said, Ah Pastor, the water's not very good it's all
09:28 red because the cannibals were there last night getting ready
09:33 to eat the bodies. Oh oh. You know what? He never drank any
09:39 more tea while he was there. Instead he went and he got a
09:46 coconut and all the time that he was there he only ever drank
09:52 coconut water because the cannibals didn't like it. Would
09:57 you like a little sip?. Is that nice? He lived on coconuts for
10:05 years. And you know the longer he lived there the harder the
10:12 work became. And then one day he decided he would teach them how
10:18 to read. And he got all the boys and girls and he got all
10:23 the cannibal chiefs and he said the first person who can recite
10:28 the alphabet and write it is going to get a prize and I have
10:32 a special present here. He said, I have a red shirt. Look at that
10:41 All those people wore ever was pigs grease and dirt and maybe
10:48 a feather. Ah, they said, I'd love a shirt like that and the
10:55 next day an old cannibal chief, he was the worst of the
11:00 cannibals, he came and put his hand up and he said, I know, I
11:02 know, I've got the secret. I can give you the alphabet. Really?
11:08 And he said, A, that's the legs, two legs without a body, num num
11:18 This was a cannibal alphabet. B, two eyes, Num num num and he
11:26 went right through the alphabet, all cannibal alphabet. F was a
11:32 man holding a big club and a little club. There was a man holding
11:40 three clubs, until he got to Zed with the broken body and he said
11:47 can I have the shirt? And you know, he became a Christian.
11:49 He taught the boys and girls how to say the alphabet. He couldn't
11:55 stop using his cannibal alphabet You know, Pastor Peyton had only
12:01 been there for three months and his wife died and then his
12:07 little baby died 20 days later. He lost everything he ever had
12:14 And finally all he had left was a little dog and his name was
12:21 Klootha and Klootha actually came one night when the
12:25 cannibals were wanting to kill him, jumped up on the bed and
12:27 he pulled the bedclothes and out he came and he realized that he
12:33 being surrounded and he got on his knees and he spoke to the
12:37 people and they finally settled down. But before he left
12:41 Scotland, an old man said to him, You will be eaten by
12:46 cannibals. And he said it every time he saw him. And finally
12:49 John Peyton said, One day you'll be eaten by worms and I might be
12:56 eaten by cannibals but we'll still meet in heaven. But you
13:00 know, he was never eaten. He went through terrible, terrible
13:06 hardships. He was badly treated but he died an old man, very
13:11 happy and he served God all his life and he actually died here
13:16 in Australia. And he is known as the greatest of all our
13:21 missionaries in the Pacific Islands. A wonderful man
13:26 John Peyton. Thank you boys and girls.
13:29 Hi boys and girls. Welcome to our Bible study. If you haven't
13:32 got your Bibles ready yet, go get them now so you can follow
13:35 along with us. Kate would you like to say a prayer to open up
13:39 our Bible study today.
13:40 Dear Father thank you for your word. Be with the children who
13:45 are joining us and help them to understand what we read today.
13:49 In Jesus' name. Amen.
13:51 Amen. Thank you Kate. Do you know we're going to start in a
13:55 new book of the Bible today and that book is Joshua. Now there
13:59 was a man named Joshua who the book is named after. Now last
14:02 time we met when we finished our Bible studies, Moses had
14:06 passed away and Joshua was named the new leader. And Anna can you
14:10 remember where the children of Israel were?
14:13 At the border of the promised land.
14:15 Yes they were. And Aunt Cecily's just going to show on our map
14:18 here where they were. Just up there, ready to cross over.
14:22 Thanks Aunt Cecily. Now Anna, you're going to start our
14:25 reading off today in Joshua 1:2-3 and 5.
14:32 Moses my servant is dead. Now, therefore, arise. Go over this
14:37 Jordan, you and all this people, to the land which I am giving
14:42 to them, the children of Israel. Every place that is the sole of
14:47 your foot will tread upon I have given you as I said to
14:53 Moses. No man shall be able to stand before you all the days
14:57 of your life. As I was with Moses so I will be with you.
15:00 I will not leave you nor forsake you,
15:03 Wow. So God is telling Joshua that he wants the children of
15:07 Israel to cross the Jordan and take possession of the land.
15:11 I like the promise that God is giving to Joshua in verse 5 that
15:15 just God was with Moses, He would also be with Joshua.
15:20 Now Matthew you're going to do our next reading in Joshua 1:7-8
15:25 Finally be strong and very courageous that you may observe
15:29 to do according to all the law which Moses my servant
15:33 commanded you. Do not turn from it to the right hand or to the
15:36 left that you may prosper wherever you go. This book of
15:40 the law shall not depart from your mouth but you shall
15:44 meditate in it day and night that you may observe to do
15:49 according to all that is written in it. For then you will make
15:52 your way prosperous and then you will have good success.
15:56 Wow. Thanks Matthew. That was great reading. So God is
15:59 reminding Joshua how important it is for the children of Israel
16:03 to keep His commandments because Matthew just read if they do
16:07 that they will prosper. Now we're going to continue on to
16:11 the next verse, Joshua 1:9, and we're going to read that
16:14 together as a memory verse. Can we do that? Joshua 1:9.
16:18 Let's start.
16:19 Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do
16:25 not be afraid nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with
16:32 you wherever you go.
16:34 Wow. This is a good promise for us to remember. So Joshua
16:38 decides to send out two men to spy out the land and he wants
16:42 them to spy the city of Jericho. And they come to a
16:47 house where Rahab lived and do you know what the king found
16:51 out and he sent two of his soldiers and what do you think
16:55 they did. They sent (knock, knock, knock) on Rahab's door.
16:59 Let's see what happens. Bethany, can you read
17:01 Joshua 2:3-6 please.
17:03 So the king of Jericho sent to Rahab saying, Bring out the men
17:07 who have come to you who have entered your house for they have
17:12 come to search out all the country. Then the woman took
17:15 the two men and hid them. So she said, Yes the men came to me
17:19 but I did not know where they were from and it happened as the
17:23 gate was being shut when it was dark that the men went out.
17:28 Where the men went I do not know. Pursue them quickly for
17:32 you may overtake them. But she had brought them up to the roof
17:36 and hidden them with stalks of flax which she had laid in order
17:39 on the roof.
17:41 Wow. So Bethany where did she hide the spies?
17:43 In the um stalks of... yeah.
17:47 Up on the roof didn't she. Yeah. Okay, Kate I want to read what
17:52 Rahab says to the spies. Can you do that in Joshua 2:10-11 please
17:56 For we have heard how the Lord dried up the water of the Red
18:01 Sea for you when you came out of Egypt and what you did to the
18:05 two kings of the Amorites who were on the other side of the
18:10 Jordan, Sidon and Og, whom you utterly destroyed. And as soon
18:15 as we heard these things our hearts melted; neither did there
18:19 remain any more courage in anyone because of you, for the
18:24 Lord your God, He is God in heaven above and on earth below.
18:28 Mmm. Thanks Kate. So Rahab is telling the spies that all the
18:32 people in the city of Jericho and Canaan are faint hearted
18:36 because they can see that the Israelites God is very great.
18:41 Rahab in verse 11 acknowledges that God is the God of heaven
18:45 above and the earth beneath. Let's continue Caleb in
18:49 Joshua 2:12-14.
18:52 Now therefore, I beg you, swear to me by the Lord, since I have
18:57 shown you kindness, that you also will show kindness to my
19:02 father's house and give me a true token, and spare my father,
19:06 my mother, my brothers, my sisters and all that they have
19:11 and deliver our lives from death So the men answered her, Our
19:16 lives for yours, if none of you tell this business of ours. And
19:20 it shall be when the Lord has given us the land that we will
19:25 deal kindly and truly with you.
19:29 Wow. Thanks Caleb. So by faith Rahab is reaching out and
19:33 choosing to believe in the Israelites God and is asking
19:37 them to look after her and her family and not to harm them and
19:42 the two spies promise. Okay J J let's see what happens next.
19:46 Joshua 2:15.
19:48 Then she let them down by a rope through the window for her house
19:54 was on the city wall. She dwelt on the wall.
19:57 Mmm. So Rahab lets them down out of her window which, just a
20:01 J J said is right on the city wall so she can let them down
20:07 through the window and the spies tell Rahab for her to keep her
20:11 family safe and Rahab safe that she has to hang a red scarlet
20:16 cord in the window. So the spies have something very interesting
20:21 to say to Joshua when they get back. Auntie Cecily, can you
20:24 please tell us what that was in Joshua 2:24.
20:27 And they said to Joshua, Truly the Lord has delivered all the
20:32 land into our hands for indeed all the inhabitants of the
20:36 country are faint hearted because of us.
20:40 Ohhh, hallelujah. Was that a good report? Yes. Oh it was.
20:44 That's wonderful. So the children of Israel go to the
20:48 banks of the Jordan River and camp there for three days.
20:52 Anna, we're going to see what happens next in Joshua 3:6-8.
20:56 Then Joshua spoke to the priests saying, Take up the ark of the
21:00 covenant and cross over before the people. So they took up the
21:04 ark of the covenant and went before the people. And the Lord
21:08 said to Joshua, This day I will begin to exalt you in the sight
21:13 of all Israel that they may know that as I was with Moses so I
21:18 will be with you. You shall command the priests who bear the
21:22 ark of the covenant, saying, When you have come to the edge
21:27 of the water of the Jordan, you shall stand in the Jordan.
21:31 Thanks Anna. So God is instructing Joshua to tell the
21:34 priests to take the ark of the covenant and lead the people
21:38 across the river. God also tells Joshua He's going to do
21:42 something that will show the Israelites that Joshua is God's
21:46 appointed leader. By faith the priests had to put their feet in
21:51 the river. Matthew can you please continue in
21:53 Joshua 3:15-17.
21:58 And as those who bore the ark came to the Jordan and the feet
22:03 of the priests who bore the ark dipped in the edge of the water
22:07 (for the Jordan overflows all its banks during the whole time
22:11 of the harvest), that the waters which came down from upstream
22:15 stood still and rose in a heap very far away at Adam, the city
22:20 that is beside Zaretan. So the waters that went down into the
22:25 Sea of the Arabah, the Salt Sea, failed and were cut off and the
22:31 people crossed over opposite Jericho. Then the priests who
22:34 bore the ark of the covenant of the Lord stood firm on dry
22:37 ground in the midst of the Jordan and all Israel crossed
22:40 over on dry ground until all of the people had crossed
22:43 completely over the Jordan.
22:45 Wow. Thanks Matthew. So once those priests' feet were in the
22:51 water then God parted the Jordan River and the children of Israel
22:55 could cross on the dry riverbed. Isn't God good. Yes. He is.
22:59 Let's have a look at our Torch Light Bethany and you're going
23:03 to read that for us and let's see what Mrs. White's writings
23:07 shine on that verse that Matthew just read.
23:11 The influence of this miracle
23:13 both upon the Hebrews and upon
23:16 their enemies was of great importance. It was an assurance
23:20 to Israel of God's continued presence and protection-an
23:24 evidence that He would work for them through Joshua as he had
23:27 wrought through Moses.
23:29 Mmm. Thanks Bethany. So God performed the miracle to assure
23:33 them that He would be them and Joshua was the newly appointed
23:37 leader. Now something happened when they entered the promised
23:41 land. Kate I need to read for me please Joshua 5:12.
23:45 Then the manna ceased on the day after they had eaten the produce
23:51 of the land and the children of Israel no longer had manna but
23:56 they ate the food of the land of Canaan that year.
23:59 Wow. So after 40 years of God providing them manna, they no
24:03 longer needed it because they were in the promised land where
24:07 there was lots of food. So the children of Israel were now on
24:11 the other side of the Jordan River at a place called Gilgal.
24:16 Not far from their encampment was the city of Jericho. Now
24:20 Joshua knew this was the first city that they would have to
24:24 gain possession of to gain Canaan. So Joshua went off by
24:28 himself to pray. This experience must have been a great
24:32 assurance to
24:33 Joshua. God is so good. He does everything He can to assure us
24:37 that He is with us. Thank you boys and girls for reading along
24:40 with us. We have a devotional available that goes into more
24:44 depth on what we have studied today. Here is how you can
24:47 get that.
24:48 Hey boys and girls, like Auntie Nat said, you can download our
24:53 devotionals free from our website at
24:55 www.adaywiththeking.com.
24:58 Hey Nick, don't forget about Teddy.
25:02 Oh yes, while you're there you can visit Teddy's blog
25:05 He's posted some videos of his intense training for the show.
25:08 Boys and girls, we want to hear from you. Send us an e-mail on
25:12 how you're enjoying the show at dwk@3abnaustralia.org.au
25:14 So hop online today.
25:17 Thanks Nick and Sarah. Yes boys and girls, we'd love to hear
25:20 you. Auntie Nat can you tell us what we're going to study about
25:24 next week?
25:25 Yes. Next Sabbath we're going to study about something falling
25:28 down. Girls and boys, can you look in your Bibles and work out
25:31 what that is? We look forward to studying that with you next
25:35 week. Auntie Cecily shall we go over our memory verse that we
25:38 learnt in our Bible study today?
25:41 Yes boys and girls are you ready to do that? Let's read this.
25:44 Joshua 1:9 Have I not commanded you?
25:49 Be strong and of good courage. Do not be afraid, nor be
25:54 dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.
26:00 Well Auntie Nat. We've come to the end of another worship time
26:05 already.
26:06 I know it. I'm sorry it's all over. It's gone by so fast.
26:09 Yes. Jireh what did you learn about the King today?
26:13 That we can believe in God's promises.
26:16 Yes, we certainly can. Are you ready to sing our blessing song
26:20 to the children at home now? Okay let's do it. Let's turn
26:24 around and sing to them.
26:26 ¤May God bless you and keep you, and fill your heart with love¤
26:42 ¤May God guide and protect you and watch you from above¤
26:53 ¤As Sabbath after Sabbath we greet the day of rest¤
27:03 ¤The day the King of glory has sanctified and blessed¤
27:13 ¤Good bye my friends till we meet again¤
27:18 ¤For another day with the King¤
27:23 Good bye, good bye See you next Sabbath.
