00:01 Hello there. Happy Sabbath. Come on in. We're about to meet
00:06 with the King.
00:09 ¤ ¤
00:54 Good day. I'm Auntie Nat. It's great you could all join us to
00:56 meet with the King. We're about
00:58 to open the Sabbath. Come and
00:59 join us in our worship time together. Hello Auntie Cecily.
01:03 It's wonderful that you're here with us today.
01:04 Hello Auntie Nat.
01:06 Hello children. It's awesome that you're here with us today.
01:10 It's great that you're here to meet the King. And Teddy, hello
01:15 Teddy, it's lovely that you're here too. Auntie Cecily, would
01:19 you like to say a prayer for us to open our worship time.
01:23 Dear Father in heaven, thank you for the Sabbath day and thank
01:28 you for bringing us safely through another week. We pray
01:31 Your Holy Spirit will be with us as we worship you.
01:34 In Jesus' name, Amen.
01:36 Amen. Do you know this is a great time to reflect on our
01:40 week and think about the blessings that God has sent us.
01:44 Now Chloe you have a very special blessing to tell us.
01:48 Grandma and Grandpa got baptized at church.
01:53 That's so wonderful Chloe. Thanks for sharing that with us.
01:56 Auntie Cecily, you have a blessing for us as well all
01:59 about the Sabbath. Can you tell us about that?
02:01 Yes. Last time we spoke about how Jesus says it's lawful to do
02:06 good on the Sabbath. God also wants us to be mindful of how
02:11 we behave on the Sabbath. God wants us to get involved in
02:15 activities that improve our ability to communicate with Him.
02:21 God gives us some very good advice in Isaiah 58:13,14. He
02:26 asks us not to do our own pleasure or our own ways on
02:31 the Sabbath. God wants our full attention on the Sabbath so we
02:36 can honor Him. God promises a blessing if we do this. Spending
02:41 time in nature is a great way to do this with our family.
02:46 Enjoying the creation that our Creator made for us reminds us
02:50 of how much God loves all of us.
02:54 Thank you Auntie Cecily. That was beautiful.
02:56 Do you know one way that we can worship God on the Sabbath is to
03:00 worship him in song and we have Pastor Rick here to help us.
03:04 Thanks Pastor Rick.
03:06 Hi girls and boys. Let's sing
03:08 the song Remember the Sabbath.
03:53 Let's do it again.
04:37 Can we sing Praise Him Praise Him?
04:40 Yes we can.
05:20 Pastor Rick can we sing God Is So Good¤
05:25 Yes we certainly can.
06:03 Thanks Pastor Rick. It's wonderful to praise God in song.
06:07 Now Anna, we discovered a blessing at Sunnyside this week.
06:12 Will we share that with the children at home?
06:15 Yes. Okay let's go have a look at that.
06:20 Hello boys and girls, my name is Dr. John Hammond. Welcome to
06:25 the Australian home of Mrs. Ellen White. Come me with me,
06:30 I've got some stories to tell you.
06:34 Thank you for coming back as we tell another story about Ellen
06:44 when she lived here in Sunnyside You know, they lives down in
06:49 Sidney, they lived in New Zealand. They lived in Melbourne
06:53 They were looking for a place to build a college. But you know
06:57 when you build it costs a lot of money and you've got to buy
07:02 the land and they had almost no money. And then one day
07:07 somebody said there is a plot of land up at a place called
07:12 Courenbong. Nobody had heard of Courenbong. And the land is
07:17 cheap. Why is it cheap? Because it has the worst soil in
07:24 Australia. Terrible soil, nothing will grow. A few scrubby
07:32 trees, a bit of grass, swamp. And they said the land is cheap.
07:36 And they bought it.
07:37 And Ellen came up in the train and she had some experts from
07:43 the government; tall, serious men. They were smart because
07:48 they knew all about the soil and growing things and they
07:53 looked around the land and they weren't smiling. They said, have
07:59 you bought this land? Not good for anything. They said it is so
08:05 poor that if a bandicoot... Now you guys know what a bandicoot
08:09 is but my listeners out there. It's like a rabbit, pointy nose,
08:16 it's got a pouch. But they said if a bandicoot walked from one
08:20 side of this land to the other he'd have to get his mommy to
08:24 give him a cut lunch to take it with him because he would
08:30 starve. Well Ellen said you watch. And she bought this place
08:34 built this house and she grew some corn. Now I've got some
08:40 corn here and you'll be smelling it because it has just been
08:45 cooked. And they say that the Courenbong corn in this soil,
08:52 that used to be so terrible is the best corn in the whole world
08:59 Smell that! Oh! Can you smell it? Can you smell it behind the
09:05 TV. This was grown on the soil that they said wouldn't even
09:10 support a bandicoot. Well she went off to a nursery and she
09:15 wanted to buy some trees. And she said I want a peach tree.
09:20 And the man said this little lady doesn't know much about
09:24 growing things. He said, Ah yes, where do you live?
09:31 Courenbong. Oh that's the worst place in the world to grow a
09:35 peach tree. We'll send one of our men along and we will help
09:40 you and we will show you how to grow a peach tree. And Ellen
09:45 said, You can send your man along, but God has told me how
09:51 to grow a peach tree. Oh really? She said yes. I'll dig a deep
09:56 hole and I'll put some soil at the bottom, then I'll put a
10:01 layer of rocks. Then I'll put some more soil. I'll put some
10:06 fertilizer and some more fertilizer and some more soil
10:11 and then I'll plant the tree. And the nursery man who was
10:15 thinking before, Ha, what is a little old lady called Ellen
10:20 know about planting peach trees. He said, Oh boy, I think I'll
10:26 come back and try your peaches. She planted the tree and from
10:31 one tree the next year in one season she got the most
10:37 beautiful crop of peaches. Do you like peaches? Yes. Do you
10:43 like peaches. Hope you do. Because these are the most
10:49 gorgeous fruit you will ever see. White flesh. Can I try a
10:56 piece? No, it would be cruel if I ate this in front of you. But
11:00 I'm going to give you a piece. And you know, as I look at these
11:06 lovely peaches I think of a God who made trees for us. In fact,
11:12 He has told us the most important tree in the whole
11:16 world in the whole universe is the tree of life. And when we
11:21 get to heaven it's have all sorts of fruit. I hope that it
11:25 has peaches on it, because peaches are a favorite fruit all
11:30 around the world because God gave it to us and Ellen taught the
11:35 experts a thing or two because God showed her how to plant
11:41 fruit. Isn't that nice. Thank you.
11:44 Good day boys and girls. Happy Sabbath. Welcome to our Bible
11:47 study. I hope you have your Bibles ready so you can follow
11:50 along with us and the children. Auntie Cecily, can you please
11:53 say a prayer for us.
11:56 Yes. Dear Father, we just thank you for our Bibles and we pray
12:00 that you would give us understanding as we read
12:03 your word. In Jesus' name, Amen.
12:05 Amen. Now Nick what did we study about last Sabbath?
12:09 Ah, Abraham, no, Jacob and Esau.
12:12 Jacob and Esau, yes. And what did Jacob do, what did he do
12:14 wrong? He stole Esau's birthright.
12:17 He did, didn't he? And Rebekah his mom and Jacob didn't wait
12:21 on the Lord, did they? They did things how they thought should
12:25 be done and it got them into a lot of trouble. So much trouble
12:30 that Esau threatened to do what to Jacob. Kill him. To kill him.
12:34 So for his safety his mom and dad had to send him away. Let's
12:38 read about that. Okay, Liam, Genesis 28:1-4.
12:42 Then Isaac called Jacob and blessed him and charged him and
12:47 said to him, Ye shall not take a wife from the daughters of
12:53 Canaan. Arise, go to Paddan-aram to the house of Bethuel, your
12:58 mother's father and take yourself a wife there of the
13:04 daughters of Laban your mother's brother. May God almighty bless
13:09 you and make you fruitful and multiply you that you may be an
13:14 assembly of peoples and give you the blessing of Abraham to you
13:19 and your descendants with you that you may inherit the land in
13:24 which you are a stranger which God gave to Abraham.
13:28 Mmm. So even though Jacob had lied to his father Isaac, Isaac
13:34 reconfirmed the blessing and sent him away to his wife's
13:38 family in Paddan-aram to find a wife. Because he did not want to
13:45 have a wife that worshipped idols. Esau had married some
13:49 Canaanite women and had caused lots of problems, lots of grief.
13:52 And so they wanted him to go away to find a wife who
13:56 worshipped and one and only God. Yeah. Okay, Ella can you read
14:02 Genesis 28:10-16, please.
14:05 Then Jacob went out from Beersheba and went towards
14:11 Haran. So he came to a certain place and stayed there all night
14:15 because the sun had set. And he took one of the stones of that
14:19 place and put it under his head and lay down in that place to
14:24 sleep. Then he dreamed and behold a ladder was set on the
14:28 earth whose top reached the heaven and there the angels
14:33 of God were ascending and descending on it. And behold
14:37 the Lord God stood above it and said I am the Lord God of
14:42 Abraham your father and your God of Isaac. The land on which
14:47 you lie I will give you and your descendants. Also your
14:52 shall be as the dust of the earth. You shall spread abroad
14:56 to the west and the east, to the north and the south. And in you
15:00 and in your seed all the families of the earth shall be
15:04 blessed. Behold I am with you and will keep you wherever you
15:08 go and I will bring you back to this land for I will not leave
15:12 you until I have done what I have spoken to you. And Jacob
15:17 woke up from his sleep and said surely the Lord is in this place
15:23 and I did not know it.
15:24 Mmm. So God promises Jacob that he's blessed just like his
15:30 grandfather Abraham and his father Isaac. And do you know
15:34 what he promises Jacob that he'll bring him back home
15:38 eventually. That must have been a great comfort to Jacob because
15:41 he was a bit lonely out there in that desert on his own and he
15:45 was away from his family. Auntie Cecily, you have got something
15:48 to read for us from our Torch Light, Mrs. White's writings,
15:52 to shine on that verse to help us to understand it more.
15:56 Can you read that for us?
16:02 But God did not forsake Jacob.
16:06 His mercy was still extended
16:11 to his erring distrustful servant. The Lord
16:14 compassionately revealed just what Jacob needed, a Saviour.
16:20 God is so good. Jacob was scared that God had taken away his
16:25 blessing because of his sin. Jacob was very sorry for
16:29 his sin and deeply repentant to God. In God's mercy, he
16:34 showed Jacob in the dream that the blessing and birthright were
16:38 Jacob's. God forgave Jacob and promised to be with him. So if
16:43 read Genesis 29, it tells us that Jacob arrived in
16:46 Paddan-aram and he found Rachel, uncle Laban's daughter and God
16:51 led him straight to the family. Isn't that good. So there was a
16:56 happy reunion and Jacob goes to stay with his Uncle Laban.
17:01 Now Nick, you've got a verse to read for us. Genesis 29:15-24
17:06 and that tells us what happens.
17:09 Then Laban said to Jacob, because you're my relative
17:12 should you therefore serve me for nothing. Tell me, what
17:16 should your wages be. Now Laban had two daughters. The name of
17:21 the elder was Leah and the name of the younger was Rachel.
17:25 Leah's eyes were delicate but Rachel was of beautiful form and
17:30 appearance. Now Jacob loved Rachel. He said, I'll serve you
17:34 seven years for Rachel, your youngest daughter. And Laban
17:38 said, it is better that I give her to you than I should give
17:43 her to any other man. Stay with me. So Jacob served seven years
17:47 for Rachel and they seemed only a few days to him because of the
17:52 love he had for her. Then Jacob said to Laban, give me my wife
17:57 for my days are fulfilled and that I may go in to her. And
18:02 Laban gathered all the men of the place and made a feast. Now
18:06 it came to pass that in the evening he took Leah as his
18:11 daughter and brought her to Jacob and he went in to her.
18:17 Laban gave his maid Zilpah to his daughter Leah as a maid.
18:22 Mmm. So Kate can you continue reading Genesis 29:25-30.
18:27 So it came to pass in the morning that behold it was Leah
18:32 and he said to Laban, What is this you have done to me? Was it
18:37 not for Rachel that I served you. Why then have you deceived
18:42 me? And Laban said, it must not be done so in our country to
18:47 give the younger before the firstborn. Fulfill her week and
18:52 we will give this one also for the service which you served
18:58 still another seven years. Then Jacob did so and fulfilled her
19:05 week. So he gave him his daughter Rachel as wife also and
19:11 Laban gave his maid Bilhah to his daughter Rachel as a maid.
19:17 Then Jacob went in to Rachel and he also loved Rachel more than
19:23 Leah and he served with Laban still another seven years.
19:27 Wow! So what's happening? Laban deceived Jacob and he got the
19:33 wrong girl didn't he? Jacob was extremely... was he pretty angry?
19:38 Yeah. Yes he was pretty angry. And he had to work another seven
19:43 years for Rachel. This lying is not good is it? You know Jacob
19:49 deceived his father and his brother for the blessing and
19:53 birthright. Does it pay to deceive and lie. No. It doesn't.
19:57 You know even though God forgave Jacob and God was going to pour
20:01 out all the blessings to him, the consequences of Jacob's sin
20:04 were still with him. He had to marry two women. Do you think
20:07 that was a happy life for him having two wives at the same
20:11 time? No. No, there was a lot of strife, there was lots of
20:14 strife between the two wives and who could have the more children
20:19 It wasn't a very happy time. But despite all the issues God still
20:23 blessed Jacob with many children Ben, can you please read
20:27 Genesis 31:1-3 to see what happens.
20:31 Now Jacob heard the words of Laban's sons saying Jacob has
20:35 taken away all that was our father's and from what was our
20:39 father's he has acquired all this wealth. And Jacob saw the
20:43 countenance of Laban and indeed it was not favorable toward him
20:47 like before. Then the Lord said to Jacob, Return to the land of
20:51 your fathers and to your family and I will be with you.
20:54 Mmm. So Laban's sons were even becoming jealous of Jacob's
20:57 wealth and Laban wasn't happy with things anymore. And if we
21:01 were to read in verse seven Laban deceived Jacob with his
21:06 changing his wages 10 times. But do you remember that we read
21:10 that God promised all those years ago that God would protect
21:14 him and take him back home again. Sarah can you please read
21:18 for us Genesis 31:17-18.
21:21 Then Jacob rose and set his sons and his wives on camels and he
21:26 carried away all his livestock and all his possessions which he
21:30 had gained, his acquired livestock which he had gained
21:34 in Paddan-aram to go to his father Isaac in the land of
21:38 Canaan.
21:39 Mmm. So after 20 years Jacob came home. Did God keep His
21:43 promise Yes. He did. He brought him back home and he was so
21:47 blessed. Let's quickly read our memory verse. Genesis 28:15.
21:51 We'll read that together.
21:53 Behold I am with you and will keep you wherever you go.
22:03 Did God take care of Jacob? He did. Thank you boys and girls
22:07 for joining us today in reading the Bible. It was great to have
22:10 you join us. You can ask God to help you when you have done
22:13 wrong and ask Him to forgive you He is waiting for you with open
22:17 arms to come to him. The story we have just studied shows us
22:20 that we have a loving and merciful God. In our Bible study
22:23 next Sabbath we're going to learn about one of Jacob's sons
22:27 and his journey with God.
22:28 There are many other stories in the Bible that tell us about the
22:35 forgiving mercies of our God when we tell him how sorry we
22:40 are. These stories are there to give us hope. Reading the Bible
22:45 brings us closer to God and builds our relationship with
22:49 Him. Because of this we want to encourage you to read your Bible
22:53 not only on the Sabbath day but every day. Auntie Nat, would you
22:58 tell us about the devotional that relates to our study today?
23:02 Sure. We have a seven-day devotional study available on
23:06 Jacob in Exile, the subject we studied together today. This
23:10 devotional expands on what we learnt. You can download and
23:14 print it free from our website which is
23:15 www.adaywiththeking.com. This will help you to read your Bible
23:18 every day and to spend time getting to know God. Auntie
23:22 Cecily what is our memory verse?
23:25 Yes children are you ready to say it all together?
23:27 Genesis 28:15- Behold I am with you and will keep you wherever
23:35 you go.
23:37 Auntie Nat, are you reading to sing our blessing song to the
23:39 children? Yes, let's do that.
23:40 ¤May God bless you and keep you and fill your heart with love¤
23:56 ¤May God guide and protect you and watch you from above¤
24:06 ¤And Sabbath after Sabbath we greet this day of rest¤
24:16 ¤The day the King of glory has sanctified and blessed¤
24:26 ¤Good bye my friend till we meet again¤
24:31 ¤For another day with the King¤
24:39 Good bye, Good bye. See you next Sabbath.
